It had begun the moment the Mistress of Novices and Carina had finished the exchange of words that began the ceremony. Claire took her place beside the Mistress of Novices as the Accepted began to disrobe. The Brown watched her intently, as did the other Aes Sedai present, for any crack in the calm facade she wore on her face.
The Mistress of Novices continued with the ritual as Carina was undressing. “Therefore I will instruct you. You will see this sign upon the ground.” She channeled and used her finger to draw a six pointed star in the air in front of Carina.
Claire embraced the Source and channeled Spirit into a weave of medium complexity, touching it lightly to the back of Carina's head. "Remember what must be remembered," she said softly. The Brown maintained the weave as the instructions proceeded.
“When you see that sign, you will go to it immediately, at a steady pace, neither hurrying nor hanging back, and only then may you embrace the Power. The weaving required must begin immediately, and you may not leave that sign until it is completed.”
Again, Claire spoke the required phrase, "Remember what must be remembered."
“When the weave is complete, you will see that sign again, marking the way you must go, again at a steady pace, without hesitation.”
"Remember what must be remembered," she said.
“One hundred times will you weave, in the order you have been given and in perfect composure.”
Claire completed the ritual with one last repetition, "Remember what must be remembered." She then let the completed weave she was holding sink into Carina, hopefully providing her with the knowledge she would need to make it through her testing successfully.
The Brown joined the other Aes Sedai in a circle around the great oval ter'angreal, and as one they knelt and began to weave. It was a complex weave, a tangle of all five powers that sent the color-shifting oval into a flashing kaleidoscope of color. At the height of the weave, the opening inside the ter'angreal became a solid sheet of opaque white, and the entire oval began to revolve slowly on it's base. Claire could not spare much concentration to watching Carina as she walked steadily towards it and entered it as it turned.
***
100 times did the Accepted weave, without hesitation or hurry. She stood up marvelously to the trials laid before her, and did not break composure during the torture of body and mind she experienced. 100 times did she weave, and then as her foot crossed the threshold under the last six-pointed star, she was there in the room again before them, collapsing to the stone floor. As the sisters let the weave dissipate, the ter'angreal slowly spun to a stop, it's flashing colors slowing with it.
Carina gained her feet as the Mistress of Novices took a step forward, clapping her hands together sharply. “It is done. Let no one ever speak of what has passed here. It is for us to share in silence with she who experienced it. It is done.” She clapped her hands again. “Carina al'Tara, you will spend tonight in prayer and contemplation of the burdens you will take up on the morrow, when you don the shawl of an Aes Sedai. It is done.”
She clapped her hands one last time, then turned on her heel and strode immediately through the heavy doors and out of sight. Claire spied a moment of confusion cross the Accepted's ...no..she is no longer that...but not yet Aes Sedai, either... the woman's face. Then it was washed away in a weak smile as Claire and the other Aes Sedai enclosed her in a protective circle, offering her Healing, sympathies, and her clothing.
Once Carina was dressed, Claire escorted her back above ground and to her chambers in the Accepted gallery, where she would spend her last night before taking the Oaths. The woman was very quiet during the walk, and Claire thought this boded well. She had seen women make it through the test to then show excitement bordering on giddiness once it was done. Most of them were Blues. This child was obviously taking the idea of contemplation seriously, and once Claire had deposited her at her room (and made sure a tray of hot food was waiting for her), she went at once to report on the testing to her Ajah Head.
Hopefully tomorrow would bring another sister into the fold of the Brown Ajah.

Stop in and tell us about yourselves! Are you new to DM and the RP? Are you an old hand at post-based role playing? Share some information so we can get to know each other better!
So....I'm Claire. I've been a member of DM since 2001, and back in those days, RP was integrated through the whole site, so you pretty much HAD to RP to be a member. My first character was a Brown Sister named Claire (how unique!), and I've since played everything from Damane to a Wolfsister. Currently, I still RP as Claire (now quite ancient), a Blue named Gianna, a Gray Seafolk Sister named Cetaile, and I also play the Windfinder to the Wavemistress of clan Shodein over in the Freelander's Division.
I'm 26 and a mother to one child, an 18 month old daughter. I work from home as a graphic and web designer, which gives me more time for DM these days. I also play in an amateur competitive billiards (8-ball) league twice a week. :)

Tell us why, too! If you picked other, who did you pick? Only thing to remember is don't reveal any spoilers from TGS, as there are people who still have not read it yet!
-
Obviously we RPers are all inspired to one extent or another by the WoT books, but what other books have had elements creep into your RP? I'm personally a fan of the GRRM Ice & Fire books, and also Ursula Le'Guin makes it into my writing a lot sometimes too.

Have a question about the Dragon Reborn PSW, the RP Groups, or RP in general? Post it here and we'll do our best to answer it for you!

Claire sat cross-legged on the floor of her study above the Tower Library, poring over the ter'angreal she had brought back with her from her most recent trip. The ter'angreal, like the girls with the spark she had also found, were treasures the Tower would hold tightly to. She had only been back a couple of weeks, and the Brown had still not found time to really study these artifacts of an earlier time. Every time she would settle down to work, something would interrupt her and draw her away. Almost as if her thoughts brought it, somebody knocked at her door. Claire was not surprised, after all, that had been her luck recently.
She got up and pulled the door open, harsh words ready if it was a Novice who had interrupted her. They died in her mouth though, as the Head of her Ajah stood in the corridor. Raeyn raised an eyebrow at her and smirked slightly. Claire gave a nod and slight dip of the knees, befitting a sister to her Ajah's head. She inquired, "What can I do for you, Raeyn?"
The Head wasn't one to bandy words, and true to form, she didn't here. "Carina is to be summoned shortly for her testing. You might not know, since you've been off...adventuring..recently, but we have high hopes she will choose the Brown should she past her testing. You are to go to her testing now and observe for us."
Claire hesitated, wanting to ask a question, but the look on Raeyn's face brooked no nonsense. Instead she simply nodded and strode off in the direction of the main Tower, closing the door to behind her.
She walked steadily for a quarter of an hour after entering the Tower, descending further and further into the bowels of the great structure. She reached the door to the testing room the same time as the Mistress of Novices was departing to summon Carina. Claire turned to the room, but the Mistress caught her arm. "Claire, I have something urgent I must do as soon as Carina is safely out of her testing. Should she succeed, will you please escort her back to her room and explain the Night of Contemplation to her?"
Though she was surprised, Claire assured the Mistress of Novices she would do so, then entered the chamber, where other Aes Sedai from each Ajah were waiting, arrayed around the oval ter'angreal in the middle of the room. Claire picked a spot along the wall and settled in to wait for the Accepted to arrive.

OOC: Sorry about this, guys! I completely forgot about this class and you guys should have kicked me in the butt sooner!
Lesson 4: Air and Water
Claire started the day ready to teach. She had been very happy at how far her class was progressing and she knew that the group had a good grasp on the importance of caution and control. She placed the things she had brought with her on her desk and sat to wait for the Novices to arrive. As she waited she reflected on how much they needed every Novice and Accepted to succeed. The time was fast approaching when Aes Sedai of all Ajahs would need to fight and the more they had the better. Claire was brought out of her reverie by footsteps at the door. It was the Novices, as expected. Once they were seated, Claire launched into today’s lesson.
"Hello class, today will most likely be one of the hardest days for you since you have been at the Tower. At the end of this lesson you will be so tired that you will not want to lift a finger to do anything.” The Novices all had a properly concerned look upon hearing that remark. “But do not worry,” Claire continued, “I have asked that you be excused from all chores today so that you can rest. This will not happen again so take advantage of it.” Claire smiled and began to lecture.
“First of all, are you having any problems with the topics we have covered so far?” The Novices each shook their heads no, but Claire wanted to be sure. “If so, I will work with you until you get it or until I get tired of you.” She tipped a wink at the Novices to let them know she was joking. “If you ARE having any problems, please let me know after the lesson so I can know where we have weak spots to work on.” The girls nodded at Claire, and so she moved on. “First we are going to do a small exercise. In our second lesson when you learned to touch the Source, I knew the second you held it. Now you also will learn how to tell if another woman is touching Saidar.” Claire smiled at the Novices, who were trying very hard to keep the eager look off of their faces. They have a thirst for knowledge, so they do…perhaps some of these will be Browns.
“Every female channeller can see when a woman is using the Source, because a glow springs up all around them the second they hold it. I want you to try to see this glow, I will walk around the room holding Saidar. You are allowed to embrace the Source, as it makes it easier to see the glow in the beginning, but try to see it also when you are not holding Saidar.” Claire walked around the room while holding Saidar. She watched as the girls squinted and followed her with her eyes. Each of them in turn broke into big smiles after only a short while. Claire stopped walking and turned to the Novices. “Wonderful job! You now can see when a woman is holding the source.”
Claire gave the class a short break, then continued the lesson. “Today you are also going to learn a few weaves that use Air and Water. I expect you to be careful since you have not had any real experience at weaving. Please watch carefully and go slow so that you can get the hang of it. And before we start with the weaves I want you to promise me NEVER to pick your weaves apart, but to let them dissipate on their own. Picking apart a weave is very dangerous and it can cause severe explosions or even getting burned out.” They all looked sufficiently cowed by this, and mumbled assurances that they would never pick apart a weave.
She then turned to her desk and pulled out a handkerchief. She dipped it into the bowl she had placed on the desk earlier. She held the dripping wet cloth over the bowl and embraced Saidar. Weaving pure Water, she slowly drained the water in the handkerchief back into the bowl. (OOC: This Weave is called Dry, and requires Water score of 2) When she was done, she held it out for all to see. She saw a look of awe and puzzlement cross the Novices’ faces. “Now you watched that I used a pure weave of Water to drain this, right?” They nodded. “You can not only use Water to dry something, but also to gather water to you.” Claire took the glass she had placed on the desk and concentrated, weaving Water she gathered all the moisture from the air and guided it to the glass. (OOC: Create Water: Water score 2) The Novices watched all of this carefully, and Claire was satisfied they had seen the way of that weave.
“Next, we're going to move on to Air. Devrion, would you please stand up?” The Novice obliged, pushing back her chair to stand in front of Claire. Still embracing Saidar, she snared the girl in flows of Air, which snaked out and wrapped around her waist. She was slowly lifted up. Claire stopped lifting her with Air when her head got to close to the ceiling. The young woman looked like she would faint. Claire swayed her slowly back and forth in the air while speaking.
"Air can be pretty handy when you are trying to protect yourself." Claire then let the Novice down to the ground slowly in front of her chair. (Air Lift requires Air 2+) She set the girl loose from the threads only to quickly wrap her up in another weave of Air. The young woman struggled against the bonds but was totally immobile. "As you can see, or feel….you cannot move at all." Claire then released Devrion from the weave, who quickly collapsed into the chair right behind her. (Arms of Air requires Air 2+) "Not only can Air be used to protect but it can be used to attack or damage as well," Claire added. She tossed an apple into the air and then with a blunt flow of Air she smashed it and sent it flying across the room. (Air Club requires Air 1)
"Air and Water are the two elements that are also used in weather control. Should you develop the Talent of Cloud Dancing, those would most likely be your strongest elements. Regardless, you will learn some small amount of weather control, at a later time when you are capable of it. These are the two elements that women are usually more proficient in than men. Spirit is shared equally among the genders."
Close to exhausted from handling that much Air and Water, Claire sat down and faced the class. “Now, this is your time to practice these weaves while I can watch you. Practice with the handkerchief and bowl for Dry, the glass for Create Water, and with this feather for the weaves I showed you using Air. The supplies you need will be found on the large table at the rear of the classroom.” After all of the students had practiced awhile and seemed to have the hang of all of the weaves, Claire dismissed them and headed to the library, thinking about weather and weather control.
OOC: For this lesson, please RP seeing the glow around me, my lecture and practicing with the objects I mentioned. Does your character have a hard time with these things? Or is it easier than she expected?

Contact : khryssie2@gmail.com
Character Information
Name: Maglaen Nehel

Nationality: Domani
Appearance
Hair: Dark Brown
Eyes: Dark Brown
Skin: Bronze/Olive
Height: 5'7"
Voice: Soprano
Other: -
Optional
Special Skills: -
Knowledge Weakness: -
Physical Weakness: -
Personality weakness: Passive-aggressive, leads her to lose her temper unexpectedly. Maglaen can be rash and illogical at times, wanting it to be her way or the highway. Has a hard time recognizing and accepting authority.
Personality
Generally quiet, Maglaen isn't overly friendly or outgoing. She's generally socially awkward, preferring to let others do the talking while she listens. Maglaen has always been an ambitious girl, though, craving more power and influence; her life is boring, and she wants more. She isn't by any means malicious or manipulative, the girl simply gets bored easily. Maglaen is passive-aggressive, and often withholds her feelings and problems, preferring to let them fester and stew than admit she's feeling angry or upset.
History
Hardly an interesting history- Maglaen was born into a small family. Her father was a prosperous merchant, but by no means overly wealthy. Her family lived comfortably, but it was always a provebial rollercoster. One winter, especially, money became tight because her father failed in ridding himself of his entire stock. The family found it difficult to get through the winter; they were often cold, and hungry. Not even her mediocre-skills as a Domani woman (a bat of the eyelashes, a puckered pair of lips, a sweet smile) could obtain much more than a hot meal or two. After that particularly traumatic experience, Maglaen felt a desire for more than life gave her. She developed into an ambitious young woman, always wanting to experience more of the world. She promised herself that she'd never be cold and hungry again- not if it was within her power, at least. Luckily, she has recently been given a chance. Finding out that she could possibly learn to channel has been a most exciting development; but the young woman does have some reservations about going to the White Tower. Maglaen's parents always mentioned Aes Sedai in a negative sense; they are manipulative, controlling, and cold. Maglaen is torn between her desire for a more exciting, powerful life and her reluctance to submit to this collection of horrible, distance, uncaring women. But her ambitious nature is proving stronger than her reservations; not even the thought of never seeing her family again has Maglaen thinking twice. The young Domani woman is ready to pack her bags and set off for the White Tower, eager to gain enough experience to form her own opinions, rather than go on what her parents have told her.
Other methods of RP?

No, I don't mean other WoT or even other post-based roleplay sites....I want to know if any of you do any other RP Gaming that uses different methods than the post-based we do here?
Do you RP in a chat client with others? I remember back in the day when the #malkavians channel in IRC was hoppin with that type of RP.
What about table-top gaming? I consider that a kind of RP, as you are playing somewhat in character during the course of the game session.
Several MMORPGS that aren't necessarily RP-geared themselves (like World of Warcraft) offer servers you can play on where everybody RPs. I haven't tried one of these servers myself, but I always thought it would be fun.
Where are the re-enactors and LARPers and SCA folks at? I've always wanted to learn more about this, especially the SCA (I want to learn to costume!)
This definitely isn't all the methods of RP, but just all I can think of right now off the top of my head. Tell me about what other methods you use, or if you only do post-based, which ones catch your eye to try in the future!
