  1. Did she just do this recently? cause in the other thread I mentioned that I told her I would do the OOC duties while she was on LoA for pregnancy.  Her character is still IC head.  The only current browns are her, Claire, and Owen (Cara), although it is possible Selenssin will go Brown.

  2. Cetaile calmly held her breath and counted to twenty after Janine finished her diatribe.  The fiery Green obviously had been much petted over and felt that her way was the right way, no matter what.  Well, she wasn't going to get her way with this Gray.

    She fought down her ire and made her voice as expressionless as possible when answering.  It seemed she would have to give up a bit of something to gain in this situation.  She hated to do it though...it felt like she was betraying something of herself.

    "I said that I did not know how to use the Bowl...but I tell you straight out, so you will know it for truth, that there are women of the Sea Folk who do.  It...is something of a legend among my people, and there are many documents that cover it and its use.  I have not studied them myself of course, but I was told of them as a girl before I came to the Tower."

    Cetaile avoided meeting the twin unreadable gazes of Janine and Dulcinea, and continued on.  "The Queen of Altara's writ extends not far beyond the city of Ebou Dar itself; I find it extremely unlikely she knows much more than what happens within her palace walls.  I doubt she will have any information about a ter'angreal that might have appeared in Barashta some 400 years ago.  However, if there are any Sea Folk in the harbor, I'd lay a large wager that one or more of the Windfinders or Wavemistresses will be able to tell us all we need to know.  Now, do you see why I feel we should approach my kin?"

    She failed at keeping a tiny bit of heat out of that last bit, but so be it.  Cetaile, like all Atha'an Miere, was a hard bargainer.  She didn't like giving up an inch she didn't have to, but with Janine proving so stubborn, she could see no other way.

  3. D'Ashan picked out a pair of training daggers and strode confidently towards her.  He readied himself in a stance she didn't recognize and said with a grin, "Ready when you are..."

    She smiled back wickedly and launched herself at him.

    ~~~Several Minutes Later~~~
    Winded, Cetaile sat on her heels and watched D'Ashan as he did the same.  She had a fine collection of bruises starting on her ribs, shoulders, and legs...but she also knew that she had landed a few good blows on the trainee as well.  He was rotating an arm with a slight wince.
    She stood with a wince of her own and crossed the short distance to him.  He looked up at her warily as she spoke.  "I appreciate you taking the time to spar with me.  It was...educational.  I know that your arm can't feel the best after that blow to the inside elbow I dealt you.  Will you accept Healing?"
  4. Claire didn't often come down to the square in front of the Tower, but sometimes it pleased her to walk there and watch the Novices and Accepted at work talking with the petitioners.  Occasionally, she was able to assist in a difficult matter without the Accepted having to go in search of a Sedai.
    On one of these days where she was in the square, Claire was observing an Accepted skillfully dealing with a petitioner who wanted a land dispute settled when something caught her eye.  An aged man and a young girl who had handed their horses off to a groom.  The old man was not what held her eye though.  The girl was young and pretty, and Claire shivered as if a goose had walked over her grave.
    She looks just like Taei.  It cannot be; Taei is dead...long dead.
    The Brown strode towards the two, and the resemblance between the girl and Taei Mirel increased as the distance between them closed.  The pair noticed her, and the girl gave an unpracticed curtsy and the old man knuckled his forehead, saying, "Good day to you, Aes Sedai.  This is my granddaughter, Kasi Duvan.  She wishes to be tested to see if she can become Aes Sedai, if it please the Light."
    Claire nodded absentmindedly as she mulled over the name. Kasi Duvan...not Mirel...although now that I see her grandfather, I almost think I see a bit of Taei in his face, as well.  I wonder if my wits are finally gone...
    "Welcome to the White Tower, both of you.  We definitely can test the girl to see if she can learn to channel, as to whether she can become Aes Sedai...that is left in the hands of the Creator and the will of this girl to learn."
    She snapped her fingers at a passing Novice, who halted in her tracks and gave a deep curtsy.  "Chiarma, please take Kasi here to the Mistress of Novices to be tested.  I will remain here with her grandfather while we await the results."
    Claire turned to the old man as the Novice led Kasi away and said pleasantly, "It shouldn't take too much time for us to hear the result.  I apologize, but I'm afraid I have not properly introduced myself.  I am Claire Sedai, of the Brown Ajah.  And I didn't catch your name either, I'm afraid."
    He gave her a small bow and straightened with a grin.  "Well met, Claire Sedai.  I am Josen Mirel."
    The Brown suddenly felt her smile freeze on her face and start to slip off of it sideways.  The man seemed to notice and asked, "Is everything all right, Aes Sedai?"
    With a voice that seemed to come very faintly to her ears, Claire asked, "Mirel...I once knew a Mirel here at the White Tower...Tell me, Master Josen; are you by chance related to a Taei Mirel?"
    She almost dreaded the answer.
    OOC: sorry this has taken so long, been super crazy!!
    July RPS:
    What a strange day... {Atten Cetaile Sedai}
    Cetaile takes on a Tower Guard in a knife fight.
  6. In the passage in question, Elayne and Egwene are trying to teach Rand in Tear.  He takes the fire and puts it into the stone of the fireplace.  That is the point at which Elayne shudders, remembering trying to do the same thing and getting burned.  Women cannot draw heat away from a fire, even to divert it somewhere else.
  7. Cetaile grunted with amusement when the idle boy suddenly threw his shirt over his head, as if he had forgotten about it this entire time.  He gave a formal bow full of the confidence of youth.
    "Forgive me Aes Sedai. Sometimes standing still and observing your surroundings can guard your Aes Sedai better than constant motion." He added, stifling a grin. "My name is D'Ashan, a Tower Guard Trainee. One day I hope to serve the Tower as Gaidin."
    She sized him up, making no effort to hide her study of him.  "You might make some Sister a good Gaidin someday, if you learn to keep your focus.  If you lose your concentration on what is important during a battle, you will be dead and no use to your Sedai."
    Cetaile shifted on the balls of her feet and let a small smirk appear on her face.  She was still warmed up from her exercise with Horace; perhaps she could take this whelp on.  With a flick of her wrist, the training knife was at the throat of D'Ashan, who started backwards in surprise.  She turned and walked back to the training area in the center of the yard.  When he didn't follow she looked over her shoulder and called, "Well?  Are you just going to stand their gawking, or are you going to come give me a bit of a challenge?"
  8. Guion turned in surprise as the lilting voice of a woman came from directly behind him.
    "Good afternoon Inquisitor Hamarind, Child... Ravenswood, i believe Guion called you? What seems to be the problem?"
    He stifled a sigh...Lucine was a Child, but many considered her a charity case because of her blindness.  Guion knew better; she could tell more with her other senses than some sighted people could.  There would be no hiding what was going on here from her.
    "Ah... hello, Lucine.  Child Ravenswood knocked over a stand lamp into one of the lovely wall hangings we have here in the Dome.  I was just...instructing...her in the need to be more aware of her surroundings."
    He gave a direct look at Isabel to hold her tongue.  He turned back to Lucine before she could speak and continued, "I believe that she has learned her lesson...hopefully she will take care of the mess she made before she leaves the Dome."
    Guion sketched a bow to Lucine; even though he knew the woman couldn't see it, she would likely feel the air flow past her and know anyway.  "If you will forgive me, Child Lucine, Child Ravenswood; I have other duties to attend to today."
    He gave Isabel one last look that promised retribution in the future, and stalked out of the Dome back into the pouring rain.
    OOC: Just one more post of 250 from you Winterwinds and you will be done with your requirements and the class!  Feel free to continue the RP between you and Jehaine if you like. :)
  9. Welcome back!  So excited to see you!  This info might be helpful to you:
    If you have been away from the WT for awhile and wish to return, these are the requirements:
    Novices/Accepteds:  You will pick up exactly where you left off in your raising requirements.  You must complete the Novice Quiz again to cover any changes to rules, staff, etc.
    Aes Sedai
    If a person returns to the RP with an Aes Sedai after an absence with that character of more than 6 months, they have to complete the following requirements:
    Returning Character Quiz
    Resubmit Bio with Updated Character History
    If a person has been gone from the RP longer than a year, they also need to complete:
    Character Development RP: Bridging the Gap--A reflective RP, be it a welcoming thread etc that you use to show how your character has changed and what they have been up to in the intervening years.
    As you'd be returning with more than one character, we can probably combine the quizzes as much of them cover the same info. :)
  10. Larindhra was pleased at Deanne's choice, but was not quite so pleased when she turned to Esther and asked, "Could you come with me too, please?"
    She felt that Esther's place was here in the Tower, not off in a city where her sharp tongue could land her in all sorts of trouble within the Great Game.
    Not that she'll ever agree to go, of course...Esther usually thinks only of her self.
    Then Larindhra was floored when she saw the disdain on Esther's face turn to something akin to compassion as she started to nod slowly.  The Accepted seemed to come quickly to a decision and eagerly turned to face her. “Please, Larindhra Sedai – may I go with her? She is … my friend.”
    Well...THAT is unexpected.  The Mistress of Novices shook her head instinctively at first; there was no reason to lose both girls to 9 months of pointless waiting in Cairhien.  Esther launched into an argument, per usual. “Please! We can take as many books with us as possible, and I will help her study. We will both study harder than we ever have here. I will help Deanne and you’ll see – she’ll learn more in the next few months than she has in the past years. I promise, Larindhra Sedai!”
    Larindhra was silent for several moments as she contemplated.  Cairhien would be a dangerous place for Esther and her mouth, but perhaps the girl would learn a bit of polish there.  And if friendship mingled with a bit of shame could put Deanne in her place and help her buckle down and learn something; well, maybe it was for the better if both girls went.  She finally acquiesced, and the girls smiled widely at each other.
    "As long as you both understand that this is no vacation.  Coreena Sedai was and is a hard woman; she will not let either of you slack, even Deanne when she is large with child.  You will study, work, eat and sleep.  Perhaps somewhere in there you will find some more wits between you."
    She studied the two of them closely.  "Cairhien is a city of whispers, and every whisper is a part of the Great Game.  I would take you there myself, but I have too much to do here.  I also do not wish for Deanne's indiscretion to make it's turn in the Tower gossip mill."  She sat down and pulled parchment and ink to her, speaking as she wrote.
    "There is a trustworthy Gaidin I know of.  You girls will quickly go back to your room, change into traveling clothes, and pack all of your clothing and belongings in valises.  Don't bother to take your banded dresses; Deanne will outgrow hers soon enough, and we don't need nosy Cairhienin wondering why two Accepted are in their streets.  You also will not wear your Serpent rings in public."
    Esther began to protest, but the Red held up a hand to forestall her.  She rummaged in a drawer of the desk and came out with a large purse of worn leather.  She tossed the purse to the parsimonious Esther and handed the note to Deanne. "That purse has enough gold and silver to pay for your maintenance for the next 9 months.  You will turn it over to Coreena's care when you arrive in Cairhien.  The note is also for her, and should be delivered unopened, Deanne."  Her eyes drove into the girls like awls.
    "While you are there, you will behave every second like you are still in the Tower.  Coreena's word will be Law.  People will want to know where you are from, what you are doing in the city.  I suggest strongly you learn how to twist your words without lying outright; the practice will serve you well in the future.  We do not need people knowing that Coreena is an Aes Sedai or that we are sending unruly initiates to her.  I will let it be known around the Tower that the two of you have been sent on 'retreat' for a time.  Generally that is understood as a polite way of saying you are serving a penance at the Farm."  She sat back and looked at each of them.  What would they be like when they returned?
    "Now.  You will go and do as I have said, then go discreetly to the stables where you will meet Geoffrey, the Gaidin I mentioned.  He will see you safely to Cairhien.  Do you have any questions?"
