  1. Welcome back!  The CoTS is going to be attacking a bunch of WTers and FLers using the Bowl of Winds, so if you are interested in that, let me know when you have your dreadie reapproved and I can get you added to the list of attackers :D

  2. Kerris rubbed what was left of his right arm with his left hand.  It was frigid, and the cold had set an ache into that shoulder like the bite of a shadowcat.  Just a few days ago, the ground around Caemlyn had been baking with the fury of Shai'tan's touch.  Two days past, all of the black-coated men had stopped suddenly and stared to the southwest.  Kerris felt something like an itch that drew his attention that direction as well, even if he didn't understand why.  The others had looked dumbstruck with fear and awe, tasks and work forgotten at their feet.

Now a few days later, snow was blowing down the roads that made up the compound of the Black Tower.  The change from the oppressive heat was welcome, but it seemed like the sudden winter was trying to make up for lost time with these snow storms.

A bit of quick work by Kerris with needle and thread had altered the right arm of the coat to cover his stump, but he still wasn't comfortable about wearing the coat at all.  He trudged across the green to the "Training Grounds", lagging not a little bit.  He had to admit this wasn't something he was looking forward to.  Today, Kerris would meet a trainee who had been here longer and was to teach Kerris the ways of controlling Saidin.  Though Kerris enjoyed learning, he wasn't sure he wanted to learn this lesson.  He wore the black coat, slept with other men in barracks where odd things happened like beds making themselves and water buckets floating through the air, but he still couldn't admit what he was.

Across the snow-covered green, Kerris could see a middle-aged man seated on a bench.  The man didn't seem to notice his approach.  He could see a bit of silver glinting at the man's collar, a pin shaped like a sword.  The man was a Dedicated, which Kerris supposed meant he had Dedicated himself to the idea that he could wield Saidin, and would one day go crazy and die of it.  It was a lot for a man to swallow at once.

Fanten; that is what Attack Leader Faringal called him.  I will have to observe him closely while I work with him.  I wouldn't want to have him go crazy right before my eyes.  I likely would end up his first victim.

Fanten finally had noticed Kerris approaching; he stood and waited with hands clasped behind his back.  It was funny how able-bodied people took such gestures-- meant to impress or look noble, for granted.  As Kerris could not return the gesture, he settled on a short bow with his left arm bent across his waist.  When he straightened, Kerris saw the other man's brow furrow in what looked like anger or annoyance.  Perhaps Kerris had not given the proper amount of courtesy.  He tried to make amends by introducing himself.

"Soldier Kerris Asech reporting for duty, Dedicated Fanten.  I do not know anything of Saidin, I am like a babe taking its first hesitant steps to a proud father.  Hopefully under your tutelage I will soon be walking steadily."

Light, I don't know how hopeful I should be for THAT...but I cannot afford to anger these madmen.

  3. "You are at the Black Tower, the Tower pledged to the Dragon Reborn.  As to actual location, we're a little south west of Caemlyn.

"What you do now ... that's a little more complicated.  Certainly different than anything you've ever done before.  You've been tested, and are able to channel Saidin.  It's best to come to terms with that as soon as you can, since what we're going to do is train that ability.  Think of yourself as a soldier with a very ... unique set of skills."  Arath grinned.  "By the end of the week you'll be worth more than any one of the Queen's Guard.  Light, by the time we're done with you you'll be worth a hundred of them.  A thousand."

Kerris tried to digest all of this, and failed miserably.  He felt bile rising in his throat as Attack Leader Faringal scratched Kerris' name in a roll book with a pen in need of trimming.  Each letter felt like a link in a chain tying him to this place, to this destiny.  Channel saidin...like the men who broke the world!

Faringal seemed not to notice the stricken look on Kerris' face, and turned towards a large wardrobe and dug through it.  He continued to make small talk with Kerris with his back turned.

"So, Kerris, how did you end up here?  I don't believe we've sent a recruiting party to New Braem recently."

Kerris hardly heard the question, but managed a faint reply. "I walked to Caemlyn to join the lists; they wouldn't take me.  A man found me and had me stare at a flame in his fist.  Before I knew what was happening, I came through a hole in the air and was here."  Kerris heard his voice ring hollowly, as from a distance, and getting farther away by the second.

He stood and tried to catch his breath; the Attack Leader was still rummaging in the wardrobe with his back turned to Kerris.

"And now you tell me that I can channel, channel s-s-saidin...like ALL the other men here; hundreds of them.  Just like...the Dragon Re--"

Kerris didn't finish his statement; his legs gave out and he collapsed on the floor with a thud.  Faringal turned from the wardrobe, triumphantly clutching a wool coat dyed the darkest black.  His smile didn't last long when he saw Kerris upon the floor, fainted dead away.

OOC: I've got laugh lines at the corners of my eyes, and I am only 25 ;)  Arath seems a jolly sort, and smiles and laughter make those lines before you know it :D  Go from here however you want, if you want to end the thread, have Kerris hauled off to his barracks or something.  Otherwise, I am up for whatever!

  4. Tai'Dashan held himself silent for several moments after Gianna asked about his sword training.  It seemed he was carefully weighing his words before speaking.  Gianna prepared herself to sort the gold from dross when he finally spoke.

"My Lady, the details are for another time, but i trained as a Soldier of sorts for sometime and am quite adept at fighting for whatever cause is needed. Most nobly and most currently, the Light."

Gianna blinked.  Was the man being purposefully mysterious?  Maybe she should have not mentioned the Aiel War, as she could almost see the gears turning in his head.  She decided to dig a little.

"Many a person can claim to be serving the Light, from the ascetic altruist to the zealot who scrawls a Dragon's Fang on the door of a man he disagrees with.  You say 'most currently' as though you have also served forces in the past besides the Light.  And 'what ever cause is needed' seems to suggest a mercenary of sorts, lending your strength where you see fit.  You could call me an observer of human nature, so I would learn more about this.  So tell me, Tai'Dashan, how do YOU define serving the Light?  And what brought forth a young man from the relative safety of Mayene into this dangerous world of armies and bandits and the Dragon Reborn?  What coin was used to buy YOUR allegiance?"

There.  If that didn't throw the boy off balance and make him forget about my slip-up regarding the Aiel War, nothing will.  And he will have my eternal respect for it.

  5. TPCs are now known as NSWs (non-specific writer) characters.  Any person can play an NSW of their same rank or less for an RP (If you have an Aes Sedai, you can play an AS or lesser NSW.  But a person who only has a novice may not play UP in rank unless it is for a special circumstance), but usually you need to get permission of the NSW's ajah head first and possibly the staff if it is for a major RP, since NSWs are for the benefit of the division as a whole and we need them to remain playable by anyone.

They usually can only be used for short term or individual RPs (like our NSW sitters), to prevent anyone from using an NSW as their personal PC.

NSW use is first given preference to those within the NSW's ajah (a brown wanting to play a brown NSW would get preference over a yellow wishing to play that same brown), but it isn't unheard of for cross/ajah play of NSWs to occur (not usually in sitters though).

If you need a short term character to be used for only a couple RPs and then discarded or killed, you can write a TTPC.  These characters need a short bio and description, and can be used for RPs you wouldn't normally use a PC or NSW with, and they can be killed off when you are done.  If you need to write a TTPC, just send the bio to the same email where you sent your Novice, and we will work on getting it approved.

Currently we are trying to not have any new NSWs written because we already have a wealth of NSWs to choose from right now.  You can find a list of them here:  http://www.aliciawilkerson.com/whitetower/?page_id=22

Make sure to get permission from the Ajah head of the NSW, and email us at dmwhitetowerstaff@gmail.com if you need the staff to approve a major RP with an NSW.

    Hope this helps!

Appearance: 5'11, black hair, brown eyes, average build, mangled left hand

    Personality: carefree and happy

    Character History:

Folhart was found in the burned out rubble of a house in the Black Hills by a band of Tinkers when he was just a few months old. He was adopted by Artur and Bresaida Bregman of the Tinkers and was raised as their own son. He grew up in the Way of the Leaf and believes its laws to the bottom of his heart. He is aware of his origins but believes that to be a sign from the Creator that he was meant to survive so he can follow the Way of the Leaf. As of late he has begun to have severe headaches which require him to sleep for long periods of time. At first his parents were worried about this but now accept it as simply a part of who he is. He has become known as an exceptional singer amongst the Tinker and there is high hopes for his future.

  7. Gianna silently berated herself for the choice of words back at the clearing.  As they had mounted, her tone and words had been every inch an Aes Sedai.  That wasn't what she wanted to cultivate in the mind of this youth.  She saw him trying to discreetly study her as they rode, as if she was a lock he needed to pick.

The silence became thick, broken only by the sound of their horse's hooves crunching through the snow crust.  Finally Tai'Dashan spoke. "Glad I came with you my Lady."

Gianna glanced at him wryly, and he quickly added, "Not that you are not capable yourself!"

She let herself laugh then, the sound like the tinkling of many bells in the silent wood.  "Be at your ease, Tai'Dashan.  You are wondering how a young woman gets hardened to such things as killing.  Well, things like the Aiel War and living among the great Houses of Cairhien can harden a person to all number of things, unfortunately.  You learn the webs of the Great Game at your mother's breast.  And most of all, you learn that if you shrink from killing, you will be the dead one, someday."

Gianna leaned forward and patted her horse on the neck.  She tried to turn the conversation back to him. "How and where did you learn how to handle a sword?"
