i got the sense he worried over the confusing mess of guilt, sadness, anger, and caring for another woman (even in a platonic sense) so quickly after his wife's death
Exactly. He's wracked by guilt. Unable to protect Laila. Unable to protect Egwene. Trauma around the way Laila died complicated by feelings of affection for another woman. It would definitely be a confusing mess of emotion.

the implication that he was interested in Egwene makes him look awful. How long ago did he fridge his wife? It certainly doesn't seem like long enough that he would be ready to move on to someone else.
When did the show imply that he is currently interested in Egwene? There was no implication that he is ready to "move on" or that he has those types of feelings for Egwene. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a different show from everyone else.

After all, was Perrin's wife somebody you were supposed to care about? Perhaps the better question at this point, was she someone Perrin even remembered?
No. But we were supposed to care that he axed her. I certainly did.
And obviously he still remembers her. His entire arc so far has been dealing with the guilt of what he did to her.

IMHO the arc from carefree scamp to darkened by the dagger, healed to redeemed is far more compelling than already damaged person, darkened by a dagger, not really healed to who knows what.
Eh. I'll wait to see the whole arc to determine which one is more compelling. There's nothing inherently wrong with the changes to Mat's story.

My point is that with Last of the Mohicans, they got us invested in the relationship with a few looks and a helping hand up a steep climb. They didn't need more than what Jordan wrote. They don't need to hit us over the head with this stuff. The audience is capable of dealing with subtlety.
1. Lan being impressed by her tracking
2. Her being impressed by him finding her horse
2. A few looks
4. Her telling him "some men are strong enough, I know one such"
Is it Hawkeye and Cora in the photo? It's been a minute since I've seen Last of the Mohicans.

At least in the books Moiraine never had any romantic interest in Lan. Her issue in the books was Lan had been her sword and shield for too long for her to just give him up. It wasn't that she was jealous because Lan liked Nyn, it was she was angry his loyalty was being divided between Nyn and her. She wanted him focused on her and their mission.
Are you saying that Moiraine is romantically interested in Lan in the show? I'm not getting that at all.

The more I watch the less I like, it's just not the same story not well thought out I Don't think RJ would have approved of this, sorry but it's pretty much garbage.
I'm going to go ahead and take Harriet's word for what RJ would or would not approved of. Her statements on the show have been positive. But I'm sorry you aren't enjoying the series.

an adaptation that changes nearly everything about its source material
Okay. But that's hyperbole. The series has not changed "nearly everything about its source material". The most significant changes were alterations to two major characters' backstories that allowed the writers to quickly frontload character information and the reorienting of the plot to Tar Valon as opposed to Camelyn.

Here RJ wrote about a breakdown in a relationship between R&E. He tried to create an emotional impact on R because of this. They have taken that and made it more visible.
Exactly correct.
And don't forget how heavily people criticized Egwene's reaction to Rand at the end of aMoL. Early focus on that relationship can pay big dividends at the end of the series, because it will provide for better drama when Rand and Egwene meet at the end.

Secondly, I am puzzled as to why Moiraine (and Siuan) are planning to march the Dragon straight to the Dark One's prison for a confrontation before the Dragon has had any training or practice whatsoever with the power. What is Moraine hoping to accomplish? Her character in the books would be horrified at the idea of sending an untrained and completely inexperienced Dragon to fight the Dark One.
I think it's meant to mirror the arrogance that she decries at the opening. They fundamentally misunderstand who the Dragon is and what his purpose is.

My point is that you say you were "baffled" how we could not expect these types of wholesale changes, and yet when I pointed out the example of Rand and Egs having casual sex you said you weren't expecting that.
There is no contradiction here. Try as hard as you may to find one.

Them having casual sex in the inn is a "type of change" in that there are many many other examples of changes made that change the tonality of the story.
Okay. So what's your point exactly?
I expected them to change the story to make the Emond's Field kids more 'worldly' and less sheltered than they were in the books. I expected that Rand and Egwene would probably have a more physical, less juvenile relationship than they did in EotW. I did not accurately predict how that relationship would be depicted.
No one is disputing that they've changed the sexual mores of Emond's Field. No one is claiming that there aren't other changes that alter the tone of the book. The fact that these things are true, however, does not mean that the show didn't get lots of other things right.

Yes..when I posted if "your a fan" did you think I meant me?
Was I supposed to take it some other way? Or are you just putting words in the mouths of fans in general?
I'm a huge fan of the books. I also enjoy the show, though there are aspects of it I wish they had chosen to do differently.

They wanted Archie to feel more mature in ‘Riverdale’. Now we have Archie banging Ms. Grundy instead of hanging out with Jughead and mixing up date nights with Betty and Veronica... Not the same story there either, but at least they didn’t call it ‘Archie and Friends’ and claim to be faithfully ‘adapting’ the comics to the screen.Yes, because the core story of the Wheel of Time is about whether Egwene and Rand had sex. ?

So Nyn was completely correct in her assessment? Even though she had spent no time with Perrin since she was dragged off by the Trolloc? Even though later in the same episode she as much as admitted she jumped to the wrong conclusion?
