a vision that claims 5 potential dragons...or a "many-headed" dragon, among other things.

What does this mean? Just that you don't like the Dragon mystery? Do you really think that any of the 5 of them could be the Dragon? Do you really think they've written the show for a 'many headed Dragon'? If they have, how would the ending be written differently?

I am not taking sides, but unfortunately RJ passed away before first season of GOT, and Merlin was probably the best a fantasy could hope for on television at the time. GOT and HBO set a high bar in production, quality and adaptation which all other series in both SciFi and Fantasy attempted to follow afterwards, some successfully (maybe even better) some worse. I also want to remind you that Merlin show was oriented on young adult audience /teenagers not mature adult audience that WOT and most premium fantasy/scifi shows are now designed for. Once GOT came out and showed what fantasy show could really be, Merlin barely lasted a year before being cancelled. I am sure that had RJ seen GOT he would wanted his books to have similar dedicated treatment too.

People need to stop putting words into RJs mouth. He is gone - light rest his soul - and the only person in the world who is qualified to speak about his desires is Harriet.

I think it is clear in the extras she believes she is sacrificing herself also

The extras could mean anything (and I'm not sure that they are even accurate as Rosamund as much as confirmed in a podcast interview that the ter'angreal took her into a dream shard. She definitely teased T'a'R .

But she's also giving off an "I'm never coming back" vibe. She may very well believe that she'll have to sacrifice herself to win at the Eye.

  4. There's no question that the series didn't really start to hit its stride until Book 3. And there's no doubt that all of the best moments happen later. (The one possible exception is Rand falling into the palace gardens. It is one of my favorite scenes of any book - sad that it didn't make it into the show, but I get it).

My biggest criticism at this point is in the writing - I think they need to tighten it up a bit and make it feel more connected and organic. But I often find that to be the case with the first season of shows I like. It has definitely been true of Rafe's other two projects: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D improved substantially in its second season. So did Chuck.

Using specific terms like "lead" and following internal industry practices like explicitly naming her and only her in the official logline, seeking out actresses for Moiraine before looking to cast any of the other roles, and listing Rosamund Pike as the very first person on all cast sheets are all pretty direct signals that the WoT TV series was developed as an adaptation with Moiraine at its center even though the story is not directly hers.

No it doesn't. It is evidence that they are marketing their biggest star to get eyes on the series. It has nothing to do with the whole entire saga of the Wheel of Time being rewritten to happen from Moiraine's POV. She is the main protagonist for S1. That is all.

as outlined by all available documented evidence, was expressly conceived as a television series to feature Moiraine as the primary main character

But this is where you're wrong. She wasn't conceived as the main character for the whole series. Merely the character through whom audiences would be introduced to the world of the Wheel of Time.

She cannot be the main character. She is gone for more than half of the books.

Sooner or later Moiriane will fade into the background some so they can push the main characters,  Right now only Nyn has been getting pushed.

And Eggy. And Mat (and Perrin to a lesser extent). But Nyn has been the only one with really big moment.

They missed an opportunity with Perrin. Valda should have called for guards and Perrin should have slaughtered a couple of them in a rage.

Moiraine is the primary main character of the Wheel of Time TV series and will likely remain so

Based on what? The fact that she is the main character of S1 and is the most recognizable star? That's a pretty thin reed, especially considering there's really no way to tell the story from Moiraine's perspective given the fact that she's absent for better than half of the series.

    I disagree.

From almost the very beginning of its development, the Wheel of Time TV series has been centered on Moiraine. Rafe, Rosamund, and others have repeatedly talked about her as being the show's main character, she's the only character named in the series' logline, and Rosamund takes 'first billing' on every cast sheet and was the very first person cast.

They've also talked repeatedly about how this is an ensemble show. And how it's about the journey of the Emond's Field 5. Moiraine will begin to take a back seat to the other characters in the show, just like she did in the books - after people have invested in the characters.

My point is that all these changes were pointless. The rationale behind them is dubious at best, vindictive at worst, and I think that rationale matters. You obviously do not.

You're assuming the rationale is something. But your evidence doesn't prove your thesis. I am not bothered by the changes. Because I am seeing the tv show as a tv show and the books as the books. They are two separate and distinct things trying to tell the same basic story in two different ways.

The "evidence" you point to doesn't make the point you want it to. The girls aren't overpowered. The men aren't emasculated. They are portraying the fact that society in the Third Age is female forward. That's it.

it's curious that this thread, started as a poll, became a refuge of those who didn't like the show. everywhere else i keep reading people like "i was uncertain at first, but now I'm won". Data on audience is good. new reviews are more positive than old reviews.

but here, the votes for "hate it" keep growing. this thread started at over 60% like or love. now that's down to 40. i'd worry for the future of the show, except that every other piece of data available goes in the other way.

it's probably a sign for how humans tend to split up in like-minded groups.

It's also a reflection of the fact that the poll is static. There's no way to capture the people whose opinion has improved.

Hello, I heard there is a Wheel of Time Book set that is either leather bound and/or has a dragon mural across when you set them together. I would like to find this for my family. Can anyone point me in the direction to find this? Thank you in advance!

    the mural is at Juniperbooks.com
