Another point.  In the show Mat, frankly, is portrayed as a degenerate gambler and thief.  It’s been awhile but did the books portray him this way?  I recall Mat was a prankster who was irritating, in a humorous way, not a criminal with a gambling addiction.

In the books, Mat doesn't get much portrayal at all until book 3. To the extent we know things about him, we know that he's a troublemaker who often gets blamed for things like missing pies. He pulls pranks that could be described as reckless - letting a badger loose on the green.

Mat's portrayal in the show is a slightly edgier version of that, I guess? We're meant to think he stole the bracelet from Danya, but we aren't sure. We know Mat is a gambler, so that hits the mark. And most everything else that he's done has been post dagger acquisition.

it made the Aes Sedai seem like they had no idea what they were doing,

Could that be purposeful? Remember, the Aes Sedai aren't what they used to be. Tower membership is at an all-time low. There is a lot of bickering and ajah infighting (though at this point, kept mostly under the rug). So, it seems on brand that the operation to get Logain came off a little sloppy. Add in a little BA motivation and I think that your observation is correct - and also a conscious choice in how the Tower is being depicted.

Well maybe not statistically relevant but probably Gives an idea of what "hardcore" fans think of the show.

That's a little closer to the mark. But I also think that a heavy split between "hardcore" fans is to be expected because you're pulling people whose passion for the subject matter tends to make them outliers.

I should of said 13 when going out after someone like Taim or Logain, the people causing troubles (declaring themselves the dragon and such), people you need to send Aes Sedai to deal with.  If finding someone like Owen you wouldn't expect thirteen sisters coming into town.  But I just don't see any way they would go after people like Taim or Logain with such a small group or try to shield him with only 3 people.

The fact he broke free like twice to be just made the Aes Sedai look like they had no idea what they were doing.

I think it's meant to convey the idea that they were unprepared for Logain's strength. That most of the male channelers they deal with are like Owyn, or the poor dude at the beginning: weak and easily subdued. Logain is something they were not prepared for.

Why would this poll be any more meaningless that IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes/Etc.?

First, just to clarify, I'm not mad or "torqued off".  I'm just talking about basic statistics. You can't generalize something: "book fans are evenly split on the show" based on a poll that is not based on a properly representative and controlled sample.

IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes have methodology problems too, but those are at least somewhat obviated by the sheer numbers. What I'm saying is this:

There are people who are "fans" of the Wheel of Time Books.

A small subset of those people traffic Dragonmount.com

An even smaller subset of the people who traffic the site leave comments.

So you are starting out with a very skewed group of people: those who are passionate enough about the Wheel of Time books to spend time, effort and energy making comments.

And since there are no controls on the poll, you undermine confidence in the actual results to a degree. Who's to say, for example, that I didn't create 10 sock puppet accounts to vote a particular way because I was feeling salty? [I did not do that]

Well it's super hard to hold a shield if for some odd reason you only have three people holding it.  In the book it would of always of been thirteen.  With just three people it would be super hard to hold and of course Logain is eventually going to break it.  This just falls in the they made the Aes Sedai look pretty incomptent issue I have.

Where does the 13 come from? It would not always have been 13.

Episode 6 premieres tonight - so another snapshot in time:

    Positive - 45%

    Negative - 42%

The gap is narrowing with negative votes gaining faster than positive again.  So why the continued slide?

Were I buying something on Amazon - be it a book, sweater, or microwave - I wouldn't even consider an item with this low of a positive feedback rate.  In general, I don't look long at items that aren't at least 90% 4 or 5 stars.

Now I know that on media websites such as Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB the show is doing better - much better.  So likely RJ2 and the writers will continue down the path they are on - play to the non-book readers because they are a bigger group and are liking/loving the show - so $$$.  And that makes sense to me.  Do what makes you successful or get cancelled.

I, however, cannot appreciate the show for what it is.  I skipped episode 5 and will also skip episode 6.  I'll follow the chat here to see what folks think of tonight's episode.  If after a couple days of feedback my impression is that the show will continue along the same vein - then I will bow out of these forums as well.  I'll miss the interactions.  I will just have to wait for whatever the next offering is.

I appreciate your intent, but you understand this poll of yours is entirely meaningless, right? It's not representative of any real thing, other than the opinions of users who comment on message boards at Dragonmount.com, some of whom may or may not be bots or sock puppets.

By all the metrics Amazon cares about, this show is killing it.

You are likely correct the more I think about it.  Their time in Shadar Logoth was so short that they have to go back to flesh out the evil - through flashback?

My theory is that we are going to get the reveal of the DR told from Fain's POV (basically). Fain sees Rand with Tam in the wood after the attack and overhears the fever dream. And then we'll see a few scenes of him following the group, then following Rand and Mat. During that, we'll get him in SL and maybe find out what happens to the trollocs.

And I think that Fain stealing the dagger is going to be the ticking clock that sends them into the Ways to Fal Dara. Possibly, instead of taunting Rand with Toman Head, Fain will taunt them with the Eye?
