Maybe i exaggerated with the number "90%" but i dont think everybody can read or write. What i said was there is no established education system. In real world this never worked and most of the people couldn't' read or write without an established system. Yes in WoT universe they are "more educated" than real world examples but its very fundamental reading writing and basic math. They dont even know what country they are from 😄
In the first book we met with inkeepers, ranked soldiers, village counciel members. Not the dirt poor farmers. After first book most of the side characters are lords ladies generals merchants etc...
And our characters are actually important people in their small town.
-Wisdom
-Daughter of mayor
-Son of a successful (probably rich) horse trader
-Apprentice of only blacksmith in town
-Son of an old soldier who is probably most educated person in town.
All of the fathers or masters are in the counciel. So they are actually the most promising children in town and i think they get some special care for that.

Yes but the reason is there is no press. In our world before pressing machines this was the case also. Books were very hard to come by. The supply wasn't enough for even the very small percentage of the population.
On 4/10/2024 at 7:29 PM, Aan-Alone said:And how they're highly valued in the Waste?
Actually this is a great example. They are the most educated group after Aes Sedai.
They are soldiers/fighters/warriors. Any kind of disciplined fighting force needs more education than just read and write. They get their education in their societies (an established system).
On 4/10/2024 at 7:29 PM, Aan-Alone said:How did all these poor farmers and peasants learn to read? Everyone is informally schooled during childhood. Taught to both read, and write [how one learns to read me thinks], and basic maths.
So we are saying the same thing actually. Only difference is I dont count that as "educated". Even trollocs have some kind of writing. I dont consider Narg as educated (Narg is smart).

We are agreeing on most parts... What I disagreed was "Can Rand be a political power or not"... I think he can if somebody wants to use him.... But, letting him go to anonymity is much more likely. Cadsuane doesnt want to scramble the world once more by using Rand. But if she wants she can do it. Seanchen have civil war issues...
1 hour ago, Stedding Tofu said:A really ruthless Cadsuane would snuff him out to prevent even the possibility that he would be a rival power centre
Cadsuane knows Rand is alive somehow. She also knows 3 woman will know the second of his death. (ruler of the strongest nation in the randland , high ranking "ruler" of strongest non-channelig fighting force , high ranking advisor to strongest channeling army in the world) .
She doesnt know this is false but if I were Cadsune I also suspect Nynaeve and Moiraine also knows the truth. Two woman in the bore who are already legendary with their prior accomplishments.
In her eyes maybe even Perrin and Mat knows 😄.
Even a ruthless Cadsuane never try anything to harm Rand. Using him as a tool is more likely but still unlikely 😄1 hour ago, Stedding Tofu said:like Frodo, we're shown his labours ended and a life of peace and anonymity his reward.
But I agree with you. Rand doesnt want anything major in his life anymore. This is the end of his story.
This is a new age. New stories new heroes.

I disagree... There are many in the world follow Rand if he raises his banner even if he has no power... Aiel will definetly follow him in their own way... Some other nations and groups also will... I am not sure about black tower...
He bacame a charismatic leader in the end... We see in the story even some false dragons without channeling abilty gathered men around them... There is a theory... It goes like this...
Duality is a major theme in the novel... Everything has its opposite equivalent... Man/woman , dark/light , saidin/saidar... Even taint in saidin has shadar logoth taint as a opposite...
There are 3 tiers of dual force in the Wheel of Time
Tier 3 (spilit by gender): Saidin , Saidar (base powers)
Tier 2 (split by morality): One power (unbroken saidin and saidar) , True power
Tier 1 (split by reality): Willpower (unbroken One and True power) , Tel'aran'rhiod power
We see any amount of saidin or saidar doesnt match what you can do with True power because True power is in higher tier... Even most destructive weave Balefire "just a waeve" if you have Tel'aran'rhiod power you can dismiss it...
Rand gets this ability in the end because in the bore he is using unimaginable amounts of Saidin Saidar and True Power at the same time... Also he is out of reality... Also he doesnt choose light or dark scenerios he chooses balance in the end...

Cadsuane spanking one of them was about when I gave up on them ever doing anything cool.
Partially agree. I always liked Forsaken POV chapters because of info dump mostly. I think their incompetence comes from lack of leadership. Until the order of Moridin "not to fight among each other we are at the last battle" they are leaderless. After that point actually the surviving ones done great things. Greandal single handedly destroyed generals of the light... Demandread brought amazing armies to battelfield... M'hael nearly destroyed reality... Moridin was in the bore... Lanfear made a almost perfect trap... Moghadien uhhmmm... done something... 😄
I imagine myself if i time travel 1000 years and found my self similar technology with dark ages... Even i had most technological weapons and tools on myself i cant do much... And I know there are 12 others with my tech somewhere trying to kill me... I will be sooo paranoid...

I was just wondering are their big battles coming up in the book series to look forward to (ala like lotr?).
Basic answer yes there are.
More complex anwser. There are many battles of different kinds. Some of them with opposing armies like LotR. Some of them with opposing groups of 20-30 people who are channelers. Some battles told from pov of battleling men/woman. Some are pov of generals. Some even after the battle pov of some charecther rememberin sort of flashback. You can find all sorts of battles you enjoy. -

I dont think anyone can idetify who is Nakomi. It is Tom Bombadil. Except for writer(s) nobody know who she is. And there are countless lost people in the world from many extreme causes.
There was a scene in book 6 (CoS). Dyelin speaks about what common people says about Rand.
“That you will fight the Last Battle and kill the Dark One. That you are a false Dragon, or an Aes Sedai puppet, or both. That you’re Morgase’s illegitimate son, or a Tairen High Lord, or an Aielman.” She frowned again for a moment, but did not stop. “That you are the son of an Aes Sedai by the Dark One. That you are the Dark One, or else the Creator clothed in flesh. That you will destroy the world, save it, subjugate it, bring a new Age. As many tales as there are mouths. Most say you killed Morgase. Many add Elayne. They say your proclamation is a mask to hide your crimes.”
We as common people can speculate about Nakomi.
She can be Jenn Aiel. She can be Aes Sedai who gone into some terangreal 3000 years ago and assumed to be dead. She can be maybe much older than that. She can be creator or agent of creator or an old dragon or next dragon or one of dragons old lover or next lover or mother.
Lets be honest Creator is Robert Jordan... So Nakomi is Harriet... -

He can not channel One Power or True Power because... Both of those sources broken powers... Rand gets direct unbroken power at the end... He is embodyment of balance... No light side no dark side... He did not choose one over the other in the Bore... So he can access unbroken balance power which is "Willpower"...
22 hours ago, Andra said:He thought of the pipe as lit, and it was.
He willed it...
22 hours ago, Andra said:Either he has gained the ability to affect the real world as if it was the World of Dreams
I agree with you he gained this ability in the Bore surrounded by insane amounts of One power and True Power... About world of dream part... Yeah it is like world of dreams because power in world of dreams also channeling... It is opposite force of "willpower"...
If you compare these power you have 3 tiers...
Tier 3 (spilit by gender): Saidin , Saidar (base powers)
Tier 2 (split by morality): One power (unbroken saidin and saidar) , True power
Tier 1 (split by reality): Willpower (unbroken One and True power) , Tel'aran'rhiod power

So I don't see any other way Rand should be able to light his pipe within the rules or the world we know of. Technically, we also don't know about his ability to influence the pattern at will, but he did it at one point in the story, so perhaps he retained that ability to some extent.
I have a theory about this... It is not completly my own theory but i built on it in time... I think Rand channels to lit the pipe in the end...
Saidin and Saidar are two opposing forces... Combine them you get One power... One power is a fundamantal force in the WoT universe... Nobody can use the One power they channel it... Nobody can create or destroy any One power...
There is also True power which controled by DO... I think True power is the opposing force to One power like saidin and saidar they are a dual force... Again it ,si a fundamental force in the universe... Even DO can not create or destroy any True power but somehow controls it...
What happens if you combine One power and True power... I think it is "Willpower"... If you can channel Willpower you just will to lit the pipe and it happens... Rand gets this ability after using unimaginable amounts of Saidin Saidar and True power in the Bore which is outside of the pattern...
Basicly Rand channels at the end but not Saidin or Saidar or True power but all of them combined...
What is the opposing power to "Willpower" which can be used in a similar fashion but different... I think the opposing force is "Tel'aran'rhiod power"... It is similar in usage and effects but different in accesibilty.... -

Lets start
Blood Snow... This was actually not bad... There are sooooooooo many things wrong with the show this unrealistic fight scene seemed acceptlable... A blademaster in the books or an amazing swordsman in real life can perform that action scene but not while in labor... Obviously aiel are amazing warriors but for a woman in labor even running is a big achivement...
Love triangle... Why we have this? There is a very suddle nod in the first book to this triangle. But thats it... If there was a future between Rand and Egwene maybe I can understand this (hardly) but this have no purpose...
Borderlanders are overconfident now... From the start dark forces are insanly nerfed... Myrdrall can not talk they are not that smart... No forsaken mention... Baalzamon is a burning eyed dream scare monster no inteligence... So I got why they are confident but this hurts the sprit of the book... Good guys must be losing to have a savior... Also Agelmar was just baaaaad... Fal dara was like skyrim city... NO POPULATION TO DEFEND AGAINST A REAL ATTACK...
Padan Fain.. In TarValon it was smart... In Fal Dara this is too much... Show assumes average audience have a intelligence of a trolloc so they explain and show everything again and again...
Lan Nynave... This is not bad... Some filming and editting problems but story is not damaged... Real damage comes from how ordinaary Lan is... He is not an extraordinary guy in the show... He is just a dude...
Mat vs. Red Ajah... Wait what?... Why?...
Blight... That blight was horrible... It is not just riddicoulus looking... It is not logical and logistacal... If you dumbed down the dark forces you will need numbers... No army can march in that foresty thing... Is it just me I never imagined blight like that.... It looked stupid to my eyes...
Loial... Lets preted like we didint read the books... Who is Loial? What is it? What is his likes/dislikes? Why eveybody soo rude to him even he is not talked 5 sentences? What his relaiton with the ways? Why he is travilling with the group? He is like a horse right now... No character just a place holder in some scenes... In ımportant scenes he disappeers probably left at the stable with the horses...

Okay this will maybe contrevarsial a bit.
Worst episode so far.
LOIAL. I thouht Thom's character treated badly. How about Loial? Is he a character? What is his character attributes?
Why all the aes sedai are idiots? These are average 60-100 years old highly educated woman. They are not farmgirls unsure in their everystep. Tower politics looks like highschool drama. Liandarin reveals Nynave like complanning to a teacher. Moraine threatens Liandarin with secret boyfriend. WOW.
Diverting expectations for dragon reborn. The producers doesnt understand the books. This is not a mystery book. If you are a good reader you know Rand is DR. I am not talking about forshadowing. We generaly fallow Rand for the whole book. This is not a big secret. Book is not about the secret. There are 13 books after reveal. First book developes our characters. In this point Rand is sooooooooo underdeveloped rigth now even a "Rand hater" like me is discusted.

Even in our society with access to every information there are some people who still thinks like our characters. We took so much for granted now. If you think about this %90 of the population mustnt have the ability to read or write in this story. There is no education system. Expecting they have modern understanding of gender roles is too much. What you say as caricatures were accapted by society 200 years ago. Strong disagree here... Reason is "this is a new age". I am not from US (you can see from my language). When GoT started It was in a channel i didnt even heard of. I watched it some pirate sites like most of the world. GoT became a tremendous hit at the end of first season globally but our numbers never shown at that statistics. It was gooooood. It was loyal to the books. Then they started to change stuff. They cut off RJJ Martin from the show. And we all saw what happaned ?
Comparing offical GoT numbers to WoT numbers are faulty. It is like comparing album sales of Led Zeppelin at 70's to youtube wievings some casual guy from today. Casual guy wins the numbers not because of quality or impact but only differance of delivery system.
One of the best ways to compare actual demand will be Google trends. If you analyze those ,state of WoT is very grim.4 hours ago, ArrylT said:The GOT show had a major impact on book sales & where the books were sold
Again not same kind of beast here. GoT had 4 books when show started not 15. Defietly it will increase the numbers but not on the same level with GoT...
And lets be honest here if earlier seasons of GoT was like its later seasons those numbers would never go up like that...

I have complete set because I bought the books as they written/translated but some books could not be found one or two years after its release. 2 years ago somebody offered my 6th book 10 times what it listed. I hope this show will end constant "can i borrow this" from my friends ?
I agree with you on most points. The real issue is this is not a pattion project for producers.
Peter Jackson was succesful on LotR beacuse he loved it. He analayzed that book to the core. He changed much but never betray the soul of the books. He tried and tried. He created whole new thecnologies for the films. There are some scenes from extended version still filming after third movie already won 11 oscars.
GoT strarted as a pattion project it was good at frist but it become a money printer. Producers D&D couldnt maintain their pattion and it fall apart.
WoT started very badly. I am not saying it is unwatchable. But soul of the books are not there. We are disapoointed ,we are fearing about the book and its legacy. Some people cant handle that and become angry. This book series is just a good book series for some fans. But for some people including me it is a life changer.
Anyway the real question is this. Can I be a Forsaken? pls pls pls ?

This was a big theory once when internet started to spread...
Definetly there is a time flow speed difference between worlds but no linearity difference... It would be soooooo much more complex if it was... Olver was born when Mat sounds the horn at Falme and Gaidal Cain was there...
And I think this actually asked to Robert Jordan or Brandon Sanderson at an interwiew and he said no... -

You N&Ns never give up. When it's a weak episode you glory in the negative reviews. When it's a strong episode, you divert.
I didint see a strong episode yet... When I see it "By the Light and my hope of salvation and rebirth, I swear to not divert and give the episode its right, or may the Creator's face turn from me forever and darkness consume my soul."
Your Honest Feelings About the End of the Series
in Wheel of Time Books
In 2007 or 2008 after RJ passed away there was a theory manual on the internet. It was around 300 hundred pages and theorized 3-4 alternate endings. None of them were close to the real ending but they were also good. At the time those were the only endings we had for several years so they are like alternate endings for me. Nearly all the characters died in one or the other so i experienced all the deaths and victories before it was written 😄
If you feel some parts of the real ending is weak you can look for that manual. Some parts like sharans nakomi etc will not be there but there were some more depth endings to established stories like Padan Fain or seanchen (one of the theories highly expolered the continent actually).
If you find the manual also get me a copy 😄 I can't find it anymore but maybe you have the luck of the dark one 😄
