Furthermore, if you're not going to target fans of the books, why bother adapting wheel of time at all?
why not just create a new original property where you're not going to face backlash like this for changing so much of the source material?
There are no new stories, only retellings of older ones. ?

A Youtube prediction:
I insert this only because it is actually a series of predictions, rather than rancour expressed across as many threads as possible, relevant or not.

Kinda make me hope somebody somewhere will say "no, we're doing total crap, but we're paid for it"; i may watch that show just for the honesty ?
Wise, in general, not to be too honest so publicly about your employers. And this is par for the course in Hollywood. Watch the extras of almost any film, and it'll be "Oh, we were like a family, I've never had so much fun, people were so generous, the director is a genius" and the like.
Years later you learn that the cast hated each other so much scenes had to be shot separately, the established actors made the others give them footrubs and bring tea, wages were deducted for oxygen breathed and the director was a complete prat.

Makes for excellent interviews. He can ask for top dollar, since he too must be the best if they're offering him a job. ?

"You foolish boy," sighed Cadsuane. "You know I told you to be polite."
She then hit Rand over the head with her stick and slapped him across the face.
"Why won't you laugh?" she asked. "You asked me to help you but I cannot if you will not laugh."
Cadsuane then slammed her stick down on the upper arch of his foot. As Rand hopped around in pain, she thought: At least I got him to cry. My work here is progressing well, as should be expected of the wisest of the wise Aes Sedai. I must now reflect on what more I can do to increase the al'Thor boy's empathy for others, because if he continues to resist my wholly reasonable efforts the result may be dire. He must learn to laugh, he must. Perhaps, she thought, if she could bring him to the point of murder, he would finally do so.

So If I am using this as an example for WoT..... if Season 2 still has decent numbers, but the viewership is 46% less.... then the show will be in crisis mode, Just like Star Wars was after Last Jedi. Right now there is no reason for Amazon to panic.... really. THough I would argue that this IP is following the same trend that Star Wars did.
I agree that it would be extremely problematic if viewer numbers (or minutes or however they're expressed) fell by half.
However, I would venture to suggest that if you dropped someone into the middle of the Taklamakan desert and mentioned Star Wars you'd find someone who knew what you were talking about. On the other hand, the same person talking about the WoT might be wholly misunderstood and the books would be relatively unknown.
Star Wars has the advantage of having been watched by generations of fans, with little side projects keeping interest limping along (until very recently when they when full Marvel/DC). IMO, WoT doesn't have anywhere near the same established base. This is both an advantage (the purists are probably not even a sizeable minority) and a disadvantage (if interest is lost, no-one's going to watch through to the WoT version of The Mandalorian to weep tears of joy at the end of the second series).

I note you didn't reply to my other post. Silence implies consent?

We Rafefriends on this forum meet up (anonymously, on another channel) at the start of every month to discuss a strategy on just how to comment so that you and others like you will be enticed back.
You know you want to.

Neilsen streaming ratings - US only.
"Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time (630 million minutes) held steady the week after its finale debuted — a rarity among streaming shows with weekly releases. It lost only 1 percent of its total viewing time from the previous week. Disney+’s Hawkeye (539 million minutes) also remained in the top 10 the week after its final episode, but in contrast to The Wheel of Time, it was down 42 percent from the prior week."
This is obviously bad news, proves that everyone hated it, interest and word of mouth were non-existent, etc and so forth. ?

@SingleMort Thank you for clearing that up! But how does that square with:
6 hours ago, SingleMort said:If your argument is that Rand would leave everyone and go off to maybe another continent or somewhere then the other prophesies you mention directly contradict that because they show Rand would remain a presence in the Westlands and I can't see how he could do anything but continue as the Dragon in that case.
Leaving the boats thing aside, I'm pretty sure the Wheel and Its Shuttle can weave as they desire.

Maybe I need new glasses, but I really don't think so. The head size doesn't look the same and curls are missing. However, since Min's viewings need not be literal - Egwene might turn into a white flame, but I'm hoping Nynaeve doesn't become a ring - this issue is moot.
1 hour ago, Andra said:Rand would look completely different.
But still be Rand. As the viewing need not be literal, this issue too is moot.
1 hour ago, Andra said:The fact that it happened inside a simulated reality created by "the man at the Eye" doesn't change the fact that it actually happened and involved a critical decision on his part.
If things that happened in dreams started to be part of her visions, then it would reduce credibility regarding Bad Things that happen in real life.

I think we do.
Given the circumstances, my impression is that it's definitely Baby Joiya. Who is important enough to be the subject of a viewing because she's a major decision point for him.
If it was anything else, he wouldn't look as much like he does now as he does in the viewing. If it was his child with Min, his appearance would be completely different. And no other kid of his would have that color hair.
No, I don't think so. I grant that the visions that Min has can be metaphorical, but they come true. Having a baby in a dream is not the same as having a baby.
2 hours ago, Andra said:his appearance would be completely different
Why? I think it's a reasonable CGI approximation of a much later baby.

Perpetual optimist that I am, I've been thinking through to the very end of the series. Three things in particular:
First
SpoilerThe Rand<->Moridin switch. Not my favourite moment in the books, will it appear as a cop-out in the TV series? And how would you film it?
Second
SpoilerRand-as-Moridin. Jarring? Though I think this could be easily overcome.
Third
SpoilerDo we want an epilogue, or is a short talk with, say, Min enough, plus pipe?
How would you do them? Any thoughts?

How did the show hold up for non-fans watching with you?
in Wheel of Time TV Show
Yes, let's leave aside the paucity or not of new stories. What on earth do your comments have to do with whether non-fans people watching with you liked the series or not?
