The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
- #wotWednesday
Really not sure about the outfit they have Mat wearing. And the extra is the same guy in the 2 different shots of Nyn and the group of 3 both times standing arms held outraised with different things in his hands. Does not look very natural.- #wotWednesday
I thought possibly training but both the cross guards look distinctly more metallic and Lan's sword blade certainly looks much more like metal.- #wotWednesday
The only thing that really stood out to me from those pictures was I really hate the look of the sword that Rand is using. That is really nothing like the impression I got of his swords in the books. It's very short not curved looks like it is very blunt. It also looks kind of a bit like plastic.- Rewatch Time
The books take is so much more chilling and hard hitting that the shows though. Abused slaves compared to the trained animals and the inevitability of the training turning them into more than willing adherents of the empire. I know which I find to be the more chilling and terrifying of the two.- Rewatch Time
yep things like the greyhound industry should be shut down.- Rewatch Time
The Seachan see the Damane as too dangerous to leave uncollared that is one of if not the most important justifications for collaring them, they see them certainly as far more dangerous than the Grolm before collaring. There was almost no indication in the books and none that I can remember in the tv show that any Sul'Damane were wavering from the core belief that the Damane needed to be collared, The only divergences came from differing beliefs on best training practices things like using more rewards or less punishments or pairing with experienced Damane. I am not counting any somewhat conversions that happened post learning of their ability to channel, hell a number of the captured Sul'Dmane argued and fought to be collared when they learnt they could channel.- #wotWednesday
Melindhra age will be significantly older than in the books then. Even if she was a baby at the fall of Malkier that would make her the same age as Lan at the youngest.- Rewatch Time
Its a fairly heavy handed method to show it. You already have collars, torture, imprisonment and the way the Sul'Damane treat them did we really need another. And again with the training basically turning the Damane into more than happy accomplices it is unrequired and presents issues.- Rewatch Time
Oh yeah my bad pointing is clearly going to be just as effective if pointing out 1 person among a crowd. What feeling is going to identify a woman in a crowd? What feeling is going to tell a Sul'Damane or the general leading a battle that they are facing a certain problem? Sone of the most impactful scenes in the books were when the Damane where begging to be recollared after being freed or responding like pets. With the trained Damane there was no need for gags as they had been so thoroughly trained that it would be like gagging a dog. Damane constantly patrolled for the uncollared. If they detected one and where gagged it would be much harder for them to identify the target especially in public spaces. The gags are surplus to requirement if the training depicted in the books is used.- Rewatch Time
Well the only Aes Sedai that we have met in the show that could even remotely be that character is Liandrin so unless it is a yet unmet Aes Sedai or a complete throwaway line it has to be her. There is some nuance in the 3 named that could provide something to possibly get behind but the seachan at this point are pretty black and white just evil, just the costumes could not possibly provide an element of rootability. Re the gags the dehumanizing is hardly an issue for the Seachan and you have to look at what you lose by gagging them which are the issues of warnings and communication. How do they alert the Sul Damane to potential Damane or incoming attacks.- Rewatch Time
Thanks for clarifying that I don't remember that being mentioned. Would be a deviation from the books again as Moiraine would have been unlikely to be seen as a Red Ajah possibility. I would also like the show to give us more information about how some of the things actually happens. Really dislike that the Tower would allow maids to be in the tower at all. Feel it really undercuts the tower as a whole. Dont really understand how anyone could be (assuming you mean rootable as in having some empathy rather than sexually attractive) on the seachans side. Lanfear is clearly playing a different endgame than the others. Liked the actor playing Ishy but apart from that did not find him particularly someone i would get behind. Would be more behind the gags if they served some purpose. If it follows the book it would be extremely difficult for the damane to issue warnings in combat and a bit suspect if the Sul Damane are admitting seeing the weaves. There is very little I like about Moiraines treatment in the show and this is yet another waste of time side quest.- Rewatch Time
@DigificWriter Was Moiraine given a learning block in the TV show?- Rewatch Time
Well i suppose if your view is as negative as it seems then TV Mat is somewhat accurate but for those of us that see Mat as honest, that has looked out for and protected his friends and put himself in harms way for the safety of the world then you can see how i would have a vastly different opinion.- Rewatch Time
Just reread that passage where they find out and yes Perrin remains the calmer of the 2 which is completely within character but then he actually agrees with Mat that maybe Rand should run and hide. Mat is scared but handles it fairly well hardly like he started screaming for everyone to come and kill the channeler. Also remember at this point Perrin has his own issue that he is dealing with that he can't run from so it gives him a extra understanding of the situation.- Rewatch Time
The anecdote did not happen till later but did happen prior to his healing so it does have relevance considering your opinion of Mat pre healing. And as you view of Mat pre healing is incredibly low it does not fit. The badger was the day before the dance so it was not in fact interrupting the actual event. And I mean seriously its at worst slightly more than a childish prank. All the rest of it including him risking his life by travelling the ways to pit himself a 17 year old against the dark one and his minions happened in the first 2 books. How that can be in anyway claimed to be an accurate adaption between book and screen is just not a reasonable one.- Rewatch Time
You are talking about the Mat that literally risked his life twice to save a child from drowning despite being mocked for it for a year after the first time. That always kept his word. Men who can channel were feared incredibly and especially the Dragon and remember that Rand abused Perrin and Mat in an effort to drive them away from him. Also remeber that Moiraine had all Rands clothes changed to a lords clothing for her own reasons. so its hardly him putting on airs and graces for his own benefit. Vindictive jokes. Fairly harmless things like flouring dogs and letting a badger loose Book Mat also agrees to place himself at the eye of the world solely as a Ta'veren in order to save the world. And that is after Moiraine tells him she cannot force him to go. Are you really still calling him selfish Book Mat also looks out for and cares for Rand as they travel to Caemlyn. Book Mat that fought with the heroes of the horn to free Egwene. I would suggest that you maybe have a look at your opinion of Mat pre healing as he has quite a lot of heroic traits. I am more than happy to debate on the facts.- Rewatch Time
Are you for real I was told I had better be careful because my views may not match superfans views. Maybe get a couple of monocles because you need them. I was simply pointing out that i am as much of a fan as those other mentioned- Rewatch Time
I'll only comment on this one as Mat is probably my favourite character. Mat would slack off and he would pull pranks in the books but he was not selfish. Remember the story that Nynaeve told of him rescuing the child in the river after making a fool of himself the year before and he was honest to a fault with characters often saying that if he gave his word then he would follow through no matter the cost to himself. TV Mat is a thief who abandons his friends with the fate of the world on the line. I am aware of the loss of the actor being an issue BUT we have to accept what the show gave us which is Mat abandoning his lifelong friends in the most dire of circumstances. That was the shows choice. Trying to claim that this character has been faithfully adapted from the book is nonsense.- Rewatch Time
Why? I doubt there are many people that have read the series as many times as I have so I would consider myself in the superfan category for absolute certain. Again I was incredibly excited when the show was announced I had been hoping for years for a TV or movie adaption of the books. Did Moiraine get a learning block in the TV show?- Rewatch Time
Well you can see the characters as the same but i think you are being boderline delusional and simply projecting the characters of the book onto the imitations on the screen. Mat is changed from a rogue into a full-on thief who abandons his friends by the end of the season. Perrin is turned into a married man who kills his wife and a relentless mope rather than the quiet thoughtful serious man he is in the books. Moiraine is unconscious for like half of the first 5 episodes and is stripped of her intelligence and drive that made her such a great character in the books. Lan is shown as inferior to a village wisdom in a combat situation and a tracker that is unable to spot a tell that he has had 20 years to recognize. Thom is a thief. There is loads more but I can't bring them all to mind at the moment but if you think those characters are the same as the books then I can't help you. Was Moiraine given a learning block in the TV show? I don't remember that.- Rewatch Time
did you underline this because it is so obviously not true- Rewatch Time
- New user, came to vent.
Unbelievable, you are still trying to defend not having to explain resurrection. I suppose for you nobody is ever really gone for real. So anytime someone close to Egwene gets killed she can just bring them back. And you are just making up all these rules in regards to one off and uncontrolled/unconscious usage of the power. There has been nothing in show that backs up this.- New user, came to vent.
Oh come on! Not even you can seriously believe that to be actually the case in competently written content. So you are really telling me that Egwene a woman on the path to becoming a healer and fiercely caring of those around her would not seek to replicate this life returning/saving ability. - #wotWednesday
