yeah, well they can have fun digging themselves out of all the plot holes they wrote themselves into. the show likely will see a ratings drop now that people will see that the Dragon is Bland boring Rand and not one of the superwomen.

this is a change that didn't bother me so much. In some ways it makes sense.
setting up the potential that the dragon could be a woman?
the 4th oath?
the inconsistency with the power creep?
basically wrecking all the male characters in the show? (Lan complaining about cold water of all things, Jagad basically being a dumb misogynist, The boys getting absolutely minimal development and absolutely no training from Lan, Thom changes?)
the various changes that will impact the story going forward (for example, the Ways requiring magic to use?).
these are the changes that bother me.

While I agree that channeling is shown to be more powerful in the show than to books I don't believe it will be to much of an issue going forward.
that's not the issue. the issue is the consistency within the show period.
episode 1 shows a single aes sedai struggling against a few dozen trollocs.
later we see a bunch of aes sedai struggle against an army of maybe a few hundred humans.
but i'm supposed to believe by the end that 5 not even full aes sedai can take out 5k to 20k TROLLOCS?
that is inconsistent to say the least.

we literally still have many fans out there that believe rand is not the dragon reborn even after the final episode.
4 minutes ago, Skipp said:What issue will it cause that the characters, in universe, thought that the Dragon could be born female now that it have been revealed that the Dragon has been reborn male?
the problem is the fundamental misconception it causes in the story to begin with.
the dragons journey was one that was supposed to be a struggle for many reasons that simply making the dragon a woman changes everything.
if the dragon is a woman you have no threat to the dragon from the white tower.
if the dragon is a woman you have no chance the dragon goes with limited training.
if the dragon is a woman there is no chance of them going mad and breaking the world.
if the dragon is a woman there is little chance the world doesn't unite with ease just by aes sedai machinations with the various kingdoms.

Surprised that Boba Fett is so low. Would have thought Star Wars would dominate.
Disney + doesn't produce a lot of content, so I'm waiting until it's done to marathon it and only pay for 1 month of stuff.
meanwhile a lot of people i know are amazon primed because it offers a lot more content just on the streaming side. let alone the other obvious benefits of amazon prime means that most people are already subbed.

"With EASE"
UNTRAINED POTENTIAL. Furthermore, Rand couldn't do it in the books without draining the well at the eye of the world.
either way point is - 1 woman requires tearing down a building to beat a couple dozen at best at the end of the edmonds field fight.
5 women wipe out 5k to 20k trollocs. big power creep there. whether you want to admit it or not that is a huge change in power levels.
we literally see an entire group of trained aes sedai struggle against a small army of humans earlier in the season. but by the end a group of 5 destroys the biggest trolloc army in memory. Nothing i saw before episode 8 Hinted that even 500 AES SEDAI COULD STAND BEFORE 5000 Trollocs and Prevail.
Don't even get me started on what "The dragon could be a female" Does to the entire story either.
How people can even say this holds a candle to Game of Thrones during the earlier seasons is laughable.

Totally cool if you like the show, but I don't think it's controversial to say it's of middling quality and only loosely follows the book, with inconsistent stakes, and poor writing.
This isn't controversial. I mean just look at what he's done with the power creep of the show.
In the first episode Moiraine is tearing down a building to finish off a small group of Trollocs. By the end of the first season 5 mostly untrained women are able to wipe out the biggest army in memory, with EASE.

As you can tell there is a good chance I'm a fan of everyone's favorite rogue.
I've been reading Wheel of Time for about 15 years and it's one of my favorite series of all time, alongside Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson and A Pattern of Shadow and Light by Melissa McPhail. I'm also a fan of Video Games (Real Time Strategy and Role Playing Games being my favorite genres), and TCG.
In short i'm a geek through and through.
I spent 6 years of my life working in the Military and now work Security, not the most glamorous of work but i like my job. I'm a bit of an open book so if you have questions feel free to ask.

So For the most part I really did not like this series for quite a few reasons.
lets start with the whole "the dragon can be either a man or a woman".
if the Dragon is a female there is no
Threat of the Dragon going Mad and Destroying the world.
Tension between the Dragon and the White Tower.
the Dragon being untrained and struggling.
Then lets talk about them basically making the men all but incompetent and unlikeable.
Not only did they basically just make Rand completely bland, but Perrin spends half the season being mopey.
Then they take Mat and basically make him all dark and brooding, and then him not traveling the ways and beyond.
Not to mention what they did to one of the Jagad.
And then ofcourse they literally steal Rands thunder of him wiping out the trolloc horde and give it to the women. Seems like any time a man got a chance to have the spotlight they literally threw it away.
meanwhile Nynaeve and Egwene pretty much become the walking personification of awesomeness.
On top of that we have the Romances developing way too fast and feeling very forced to the front.
Don't even get me started with the Dragons cold open where Lews is talking about his plan where the woman says "if you do this the dark one will taint the power, you'll go crazy, the world will be wrecked, and men will be hunted". there was absolutely no way she could have known that. They literally just make Lews look incompetent to be incompetent.
Lets also talk about the inconsistency with the magic of the show.
Moiraine has to literally tear down a building to fight off some trollocs.
later on a group of trained Aes Sedai are hard pressed against a small army of humans.
final episode - Nynaeve, Egwene, and 3 others literally wipe out an entire trolloc army of thousands.
And the Cherry on top? let's talk About Siuan. no. not her and moiraines relationship (though i wasn't a fan of that small change). i'm talking about her 4th oath. You know, the one that Liandrin thought up and was basically one of the final straws to her coming down? And she didn't even use it? and Yet here we have Siuan using it.
Then there was the plethora of minor changes that just felt like change for the sake of change (Like a backwater people knowing Aes Sedai, using the power to travel through the ways instead of that being an Ogier thing).
And for the love of god Rafe literally knew he was doing this too. he literally said he knew he was making changes that book fans would hate, but that you'll always have stuff people hate. Here's my problem. if you're going to make something to cater to a group, shouldn't you cater to the group who asked for it in the first place?
Furthermore, look at Game of Thrones. the first 4 seasons or so are considered masterpieces. and what did they do? follow the source material.
Same with Harry Potter. it mostly followed the source and people loved it.
Same with LotR. mostly followed the source and people considered it great.
now look at stuff that sharply deviated. say the second half of GoT. or Dark Tower. Heck there are PLENTY Of examples of Fantasy deviating from the book and being awful. Did I expect a 100% copy? heck no. But we didn't get anything close to that.
The show wasn't a 1 out of 10 bad, but i would be hard pressed to rate it higher then a 6 on my best day.

To all the people who actually Defend the show let me ask you something.
If Nynaeve, Egwene, and 3 basically weak, untrained Wilders can wipe out an army of 5k to 20k.
how in the world is any army the dark one can throw at the world anything close to a threat if they both just link with separate 13 circles of powerful, fully trained, aes sedai?
that is a huge problem the show is now going to have to solve.
