  1. @king of nowhere It's useless arguing with people who, to put it mildly, dislike Robert Jordan, his books, his prose, his plots, his characters, his world and the rules of (t)his world etc., etc. To quote Robert Jordan: It's my story, guys. If you have ideas, write your own stories.
  2. A friend of mine just called: now another company called Luminate saying the public was not interested in S3. (Number by Nielsen is three weeks away.) Will Amazon comment this situation at all?
  3. IMDB is a joke (see IMDb Top 250 Movies and so on), and it's very sad that even this episode (which is getting so many praises) is missing what Robert Jordan wrote in those chapters in TSR entirely. But hey, they got 3-4 very little things right, so let's celebrate!
  4. Robert Jordan got an interesting question 25 years ago. Q: Greg Basore from Oklahoma – If you had to put two books into a time capsule, one by you and one by someone else what would they be? A: Robert Jordan – Well, I think that I would put The Eye of the World at this point, and someone else—I think the essays of Montaigne.
  5. You should read an interview (at least) with Robert Jordan sometimes, just an idea, and see what he says about it. On the so-called grown up conversations: I've read many-many-many-many show praising reviews and comments, and you are the first one with the "show has good dialogues".
  6. I predicted the disparagement of Book (1-2-3) 4, and my prediction has come true... There are thousands or even more posts about TSR being so bad that the writers of the show have to correct the countless faults of the novel and improve upon Jordan's abysmal planning and execution... Decrying TEOTW, TGH, TDR, TSR all the time, and decrying Jordan too... and they call themselves fans... Words really fail me...
  7. "OFF" While I don't think that we will get insider numbers (he/she's "retired") about WOT S3 , but just as a warm-up, I have to share these numbers with you. The commentary/marketing is way more interesting than the figures themselves. 😃 It's from Netflix (First, Netflix counted a view when an account completed 70 percent of a movie/a single TV series episode. In the last quarter of 2019, it switched to counting two minutes of any title, now they have total time spent watching a movie or season of a TV series, divided by the running time – even WGA was not strong enough to get the exact numbers, so Netflix can say "anything" they want), not from Amazon, but their "creativity" is amazing. The Night Agent (after three weeks): S1 – 64M S2 – 37M As the saying goes, facts are stubborn things, minus 27M is a gigantic fall, yet, Netflix boasting about it! They say this is the ninth best result regarding second seasons! 😂 The Recruit (after two weeks) S1 – 21M S2 – 13M No boasting from Netflix so far... But they will cook up something. 😀 And nowadays Netflix, Amazon, Disney etc. usually gives us global viewership "data", which usually are astonishingly low, so I'm getting interested again in viewership of WOT. What will be the numbers, what will be the commentary? (I know, I'm evil.) "ON"
  8. One of Elaida's goals is a strong WT, and to achieve that she has/had to be sure that Moi and Siuan (both of them have amazing capabilities) will belong to the WT forever. It's a different question that the 'basic training' for every would-be AS should be the same, I mean, really harsh. By the way, people with amazing capabilities (almost) always get extra attention from teachers/lecturers, from kindergarten to university (see Oxbridge etc.) edit: after reading the other comments: I like Elaida. A lot. 🙂
  9. I'm going to be a real killjoy (in the eyes of the fans of the tv series): I hope this is the last season, and there will be no more desecration.
  10. There were many quality posts by/from quality commenters on DM, Wm, TV, TL (a pity what happened to them) etc, or even at ASOIAF etc. Usually the same people, albeit many times with different usernames. True, the days with Callandor, DomA, Cannoli, Gonzo, Davian etcetc will never come back (and I really miss Terez, Mr Ares etc) again, and DM was much more moderated than the other sites, DM was and is still a very good place to discuss WOT. (DM was always accused by some folks that 'they only post about "Who is the stronger?"', but that's not true.) edit: I forgot to mention rec.arts.sf.written.robert-jordan where one still can find useful informations, but I was just a reader there, I didn't participate in anything.
  11. Well, two times (I think there are no more cases) even Robert Jordan sensed a longer timeline, but these (very brief) occasions (inner monologues/thoughts) are just very minor or rather insignificant errors. It's really interesting that many readers (especially 'readers' of audio books) have the same reaction ("I’m now in shock. I wasn’t aware the events of this series were so compressed"), but Jordan always tells us almost directly the timeline. Oh, and good luck on your journey!

  13. DM never had been inferior to wotmania. And, by the way, 'wotmania' is still 'alive'.
  14. From the outside it looks like magic, from the inside it's science.
  15. I have no idea why would anybody do that, but I will share a little bit of information that can reveal a lot: after this year's Emmy Awards even the most rabid defenders of the Amazon show (where they ban you for the slightest criticism of the show) acknowledged that the show is not good. This response, and I have to repeat it: from the most rabid fans of the Amazon show, speaks volumes.
  16. Never heard that one so far, and even before S1 "It's a new turning etc." was the main propaganda I mean, promotion. And: Robert Jordan: "It's my story, guys. If you have ideas, write your own stories." That settles everything, I think.
  17. Robert Jordan: (Perhaps New Spring could be done in a three hour feature length movie.) "I'm not saying that it will be done, but it could." "It's a chancy thing. I would not support anyone doing a feature film of, say, The Eye of the World. I do not think it could be compressed into three hours. Certainly not into two. That would make it incomprehensible. But... [end of this side of the tape]... the screenwriter makes further changes, because, although it's a collaborative effort, if the director says I don't like this, do it some other way, do it this way, and the screenwriter does that. And if the screenwriter doesn't do that, they'll get another screenwriter. And then the actor says 'I don't believe this character would say this.' And the actress says I don't want to do that, see, I want to do it this way, so they change the dialogue, and they change the scene. And the director, again, comes up and says 'I think it should be done in this fashion' and he shapes it. And what goes up on the screen bears, you hope, some resemblance to what was on the page." "I used to think that it might be impossible for a movie to really encompass any of the books, but since seeing The Lord of the Rings, I've changed my mind. In any case, Harriet says (and Plato agrees with her) that the only thing to do when you sell a book to Hollywood is to take the money, walk away very fast before they can take it back, and never, ever go to see the movie." [The underlined text is a very wrong approach...] And reading Jordan's objections and advices on the graphic adaptation of New Spring, one can presume Robert Jordan's reaction to the promo pictures, the trailers, or even just an episode...
  18. [Off, just a little bit: Netflix (whats-on-netflix), but interesting numbers...
