Jon's words confirmed what Scylla suspected, but it was good to hear that her idea hadn't been that bad after all. Well, if you didn't count that they had little options available to them to start with, of course. Let's see... Thinking out loud, she started to sum up the things she'd be needing, trying to sound as casual as possible and failing miserably at it.
- "Let's see, we'd need something for you to sit on so you wouldn't slide off, a saddle would do i suppose. Winds can get pretty nasty up there too, so we'd need something for you to hold onto, as my clothing's in bad enough shape as it is."
A rather deep blush appeared on her face as she imagined Jon accidentally tearing her clothes off in panic. She immediately banished that thought, but a brief glance at Jon while trying to arrange her clothing probably told him exactly what she had been thinking. Clearing her throat, she continued, though her voice sounded just a little bit more strained afterwards.
- "*AHEM* Belts. We'd need belts. And some kind of safety line. Come on, you say something too umm... What did you say your name was again?"

A sad smile appeared on Scylla's face as she heard the soldier give his report. Word would undoubtedly be spreading amongst the men about the orders they had just been given, and it felt ironic that she would be unable to do what she had come to the front to do. She had meant to lift their morale with song and entertainment, but this new form meant that her attempts would most likely achieve the opposite.
- "Umm... So what do i look for? I have literally no experience as a scout, and it's likely i'd miss something until i'd almost trip over it. You have experience, but it's not like you have wings and--"
Her face lit up as she got an idea, then immediately shook her head as she discarded it. She didn't continue what she was going to say though, and found herself looking at her wings as she spread them to their full wingspan of sixteen feet. They looked strong, she hadn't even broken a sweat after clearing arrow range during her escape, and Jon didn't look too heavy...
- "Right. If i'm being stupid, feel free to kick me, but... do you suffer from vertigo, by any chance?"
To be honest, she expected Jon to discard the idea. She couldn't believe she was asking this herself, to have her carry him above the trees so he could take a look for himself. Still, as long as he'd find a place where he wouldn't get in the way of her wings, or her tail for that matter, there shouldn't be much of a problem as long as she headed to the ground before she'd gt too tired. It was a crazy plan, but between the two of them they had everything they needed. After all, how many people looked up when scouting for enemy soldiers?
Scylla
Believes Jon can fly...
-
Scylla bit her lip, thinking back on her time as a captive. Despite quite literally having a bird's eye view of the grounds, looking back was the one thing she hadn't wanted to do during her escape. Her main concern was getting out of reach from the arrows aimed at her, trying not to think about how high up she was. Despite having wings, she had still needed to get mentally used to being that far up. She took a deep breath, clutching her legs closer to her chest.
- "They move them around, bring them along as the army moves. Those and what they call the breeding pens where they keep the female prisoners. The male prisoners are spread out all over camp, used as food and slave labor mostly... Even if i had known, it's been several days since my escape. Your scouts could tell you more than i can by now."
She looked down at her own rags, then around at the camp. She had expected nothing, and they had given her the warmth of a fire when they had so little to spare. Taking a deep breath, she realised that if there was a way to pay Aginor back for what he had done to her, this would be it. And with it, perhaps, a way to make her human again. She looked back at him, deep crimson pupils showing a glimer of hope as she looked into his golden ones.
- "I could... Could be a scout, if you want. I can fly too high for their arrows to reach, and map the terrain if you tell me what to look for?"
Scylla
Umm... So what do i do now?

Scylla was glad Jon gave her the time to warm up a bit before starting to ask questions, and found herself using the time to get her emotions under control again. By the time he had started to speak, her shivering had lessened, and her muscles were a lot less tensed up from the cold than they had been. She tried to remember what she had seen, back in her cage, and from the air after she had escaped. She was good with numbers, but making military estimates on troop count was something she lacked the experience in to make a rough estimate.
- "I don't know, i never was a soldier. I guess about... ten thousand Trollocs? Twenty thousand? Enough to take a small city anyway, i heard they were planning to. Then there's that Forsaken calling himself Aginor and his personal guard of Dreadlords, so i really can't begin to estimate their real troop strength."
She looked up at Jon, wondering what his next question would be. Her own mind was a mess of bad memories, and she was afraid that if she'd start talking, she'd jump back and forth so much she'd end up making no sense at all. Better to just stick to answering Jon's questions, and hopefully just talking about it would help her come to terms with what had been done to her.
Scylla
Listening. Answering. Waiting.
-
A weight visibly slid off of Scylla's shoulders as the men lowered their weapons. Though she still had more than enough reason to be concerned, having the first fire in a few days to look forward to managed to gain the upper hand. She just absently nodded at the threat, her tired mind barely even picking up on it as she focused herself entirely on not making a mad dash for the place Jon had pointed at.
- "I... thank you, for what it's worth. If you have any questions, may i suggest we continue this conversation at the fire?"
Her voice did little to hide her wearyness. She was tired of the rain beating down on her, she was tired of spending nights awake trying to get used to a body that was no longer human, yet still hers. And she was tired of simply being afraid. These men hadn't killed her, for which she was grateful, but finally allowing herself the time to realise all that had happened made her feel on the brink of an emotional collapse. Fighting back tears and hoping the few that fell would be mistaken for rain, she walked over to the promised fire, eyes fixed on the still smouldering pieces of wood. Wrapping her arms around herself, she sat as close to the fire as she could get, letting the heat soak back into her body as she listened to whatever questions Jon would ask her.

To say Daciana was... unpleasantly surprised by the newcomer's sudden appearance would be a severe understatement. Her head whipped around, causing blood from Toram's neck to splatter onto a nearby wall as she glared at Winifred, or to be more precise at the golden eyes the woman had. Due to her albinism, her own pupils had a distinct coppery tint to them, but there nevertheless seemed to be a spark of recognition in her eyes that this intruder was similar to her somehow. In that light, her reaction was completely understandable.
In one swift motion, she tossed Toram's limp body towards Winifred's feet in an attempt to unbalance her, in the meantime pulling her own dagger from its scabbard at her hip, and moved in in an attempt to stab her. Winifred however seemed to have other ideas, as the woman parried her attack with a dagger of her own. Subsequent attacks were parried as well, and her physical strength seemed unable to overpower her opponent.
"Hey, did you hear that?"
"Yeah, could be trouble, stay close."
Voices in the distance told her it wouldn't be long before people would arrive, making the risk of being discovered too great. Even if she would be able to kill this stranger, this predator intruding on her territory, her face would be seen. It would make selecting a target during the day much harder. All the time, she kept looking straight at Winifred, until a slight narrowing would tell that she had had an idea. Spraying a liquid in her face that smelled (and felt) suspiciously like lukewarm blood, she growled below her breath at Winifred.
- "Leave, now! This is my hunting ground!"
Putting her strength in a final shove to push the woman back while she was (hopefully) still blinded by the blood in her eyes, she darted off the other way, deeper into the shadows and away from the voices of the guards that were approaching the other end of the alleyway. She hated being chased, but it couldn't be helped, as regardless of how good she could hide, if half the city would be out looking for her it would only be a matter of time until they'd come across her little sister. The blood on her face would help shake the woman off her trail, after which she'd have plenty of time to stalk her newfound competition on her own conditions.

Sharina nodded, content at Ezekiel answering her question, though she felt reassured by the fact that he had spoken it out loud in the middle of class. She knew from firsthand experience what herbs were capable of, and this would provide her with a solid backing to correct another Child of the Light in case he believed herbal lore to be a little too miraculous. People were wary of the unknown after all, and some sought to blame other people for their misfortune faster than others.
She started writing on her parchment. Peace. To her, it meant more than not being at war, it meant being able to live without fear. That all people could get along, and be open minded about new things rather than condemn them on sight. It was perhaps a little idealistic of her to think that, but that was what she believed. She believed her task as a Child of the Light was to help solve arguments between the people, and in doing so prevent them from falling to the Shadow in the first place.
The next word was Faith. She paused for a second, and wrote that it meant faith in the Creator, Origin of the Light that brought life, and gave the Children their name. If people just simply believed that with some hard work all would turn out well in the end, they'd be a lot happier with who they were. More accepting of their faults, and more positive about what the future might bring. She sent a silent prayer up to the Creator in hopes that he would help her spread her message among the people.
Aid was a relatively simple one. It was the task of the Children to aid those in need, and not turn a blind eye to those in trouble. Aid was a necessity in order to keep Darkfriends from gaining a foothold in Amadicia, and it should not be overlooked. Aid was what gained people's trust, and would ultimately give them hopes that turning to the Children would be in their best interests. People were inherently good, they just needed a little encouragement every once in a while since they'd tend to forget it on occasion. Then came Duty, but she would be getting to that later.
Honor was another one that was important to her. Regardless of what her actions would be, no matter where her path would take her, first and foremost would be that she would do nothing she wouldn't be able to look herself in the mirror for. Without honor, there would be no pride, and as a logical result she would no longer be able to wear the uniform of the Children with pride either. Honor was something no one, especially the Children of the Light, would be able to go without.
Last was Obedience, and Sharina couldn't suppress a wince when she noticed how... unimportant it looked compared to the first four. Sure, obedience was good, but blind obedience wasn't. Honor, Aid, Faith, Peace... Even Duty went above obedience in her list. It made her feel somewhat embarrassed, but obedience was just... well, following orders.
She had kept Duty to the last. Dipping her feather pen in the ink, she wrote down that duty was the combination of all the words combined. Peace as the ultimate goal of the Children of the Light. Honor in pursuing that goal. Faith in being able to achieve it. Aid they would bring to those following the Light in the battle against the Shadow. That was their duty not just as Children, but as followers of the Light. Oh, and obedience to superior officers that they might all be placed where they'd do the most good, of course.

On the subject of ASCII Art, that sign reminded me of something i saw quite a while ago...

Right... As every year, i will be visiting relatives during the holidays, so i will generally be unable to post anything given the state of their comp.
I'll still try though. I have too many characters here to afford leaning back for two whole weeks ;D

Jerinia nodded, smiling as she heard Cleopatra bring up a Fire weave. She didn't know how much of that had to do with the girl's own training with the Five Threads and if she had perhaps been influenced by her talking about the element, but there it was. By the end of class, she figured there'd be plenty of chances to learn more.
- "Sure! Right, i'm going to do this extra slow, so pay attention and try to copy what i do. Please take hold of the Source so you can see for yourself -- Katiana? Allrianne? This goes for you as well, so you'll know what to expect when you're up for this."
A single red thread appeared, one that all three Novices would know it was Fire even if they hadn't heard Satin ask about it. The Accepted picked up a candle -- no use in making things unnecessarily difficult by using several weaves at once -- and held it out in front of her, allowing all three Novices to see it. The Fire thread seemed to slowly curl in on itself in a clockwise spiraling pattern around the wick, and after a few seconds smoke started to come off of it. A small flame appeared shortly afterwards.
- "This weave is called 'Candle Fire' for obvious reasons. Making the weave spiral counterclockwise makes it radiate heat outward rather than inward, and that would make the weave we call 'Heat'. Sorry ladies, no fancy names here like the boys in the Yards tend to call their sword forms."
She winked at that last bit, the amusement clear on her face as she thought back on overhearing a couple of Warders teach some forms to new arrivals. 'Kingfisher Takes a Silverback', 'Grapevine Twines', 'Boar Rushing Down the Mountain'... It all sounded a bit too flowery for her when in the end, it was just people trying to stab other people with pieces of metal. The One Power was much more fun. And easier to remember.
- "Right, now you might wonder why i showed you those two weaves first. Well... 'Create Fire' is basically a combination of the two. By having heat radiate inward like so... And outward as well using a second thread in the weave like so... The heat will continue to build up until..."
As she talked, a second thread appeared from her hands, both threads forming into the two respective weaves. The air started to shimmer in the center of where the two weaves overlapped each other and the air started to shimmer as the heat did indeed seem to build up. Then, a small flame seemed to pop up, appearing to hover there, though anyone able to channel saidar would be able to see the framework keeping it in place.
- "And there's your 'Create Fire' weave. Please keep in mind that you should not try to touch it without weaving Air around it to keep from burning yourself on your own Heat weave, but if you want to move it around, all you need to do is move the weave and the flame will follow. Move too much however and the weave will break apart in 'Candle Fire' and 'Heat' again, and the flame disappear."
She would help Satin by talking her through the process, telling her to master one weave at the time rather than to try and do both at once, and help her along by using her own strength in Fire to 'nudge' the weave in place if it threatened to slip out of control. After she would show at least a decent grasp on how to form weaves, she would send her back to her desk with some candles and a bowl of water to practise.
- "Right... Who's next?"
She looked at her two remaining students, Allrianne and Katiana. If she recalled correctly, Katiana seemed to have some strength in Fire as well, though there was really no way of telling which elements they would be interested in before they'd tell her what they wanted to learn.

Melenis looked at Veria, making small mental notes of which areas the Aes Sedai needed to improve in. A number of people underestimated how much several pounds of metal at the hip could unbalance them, though she wore her ashandarei across her back it had taken some time for her to adjust to moving around without knocking over everything within a five feet radius. Speaking of which, it looked like Veria started to get the hang of moving around, which meant she should move on to the next step.
- "Very well. Now, draw your sword, and match your movements to mine. Keep an eye on how i'll move, and keep the distance between us the same. My weapon has a longer reach than yours, and the point of this exercise is for you to learn to keep your opponent in the ideal range of your weapon rather than his or hers."
She readied her own ashandarei and waited for Veria to draw the katana out of its sheath. She'd sidestep at first, later on moving forwards and backwards as well, picking up the pace. If Veria would pick up on it fast enough she'd add a couple of feints as well, and she was confident enough she'd be able to keep that blade off of her in case Veria would make a glaring mistake and threaten to crash into her.

In the end, Aeryn's share of the work had consisted of flailing the tapestries, coughing as dust once again made its way up her nose. Her arms hurt, but she wasn't about to give up regardless of what they would ask of her. Those that would know her -- of whom there weren't many in the Tower yet, perhaps for the better -- would of course say that she was simply too stubborn to give up on what she started on, but she kept flailing the material as if to beat it through the wall.
When all was done, she helped with the tail end of the cleaning before making her way to her room to wash her face and her hands. Her dress was probably more grey than white by now, but having only one Novice dress kind of limited her options. She slipped out of the dress, brushing the dust off as best she could before putting it on again and walking over to the dining hall, Aes Sedai like composure back in control once more. Though it felt as if her stomach wanted to reach out of her abdomen and latch on to the food on her plate, she sat down and calmly started eating.
The only thing that seemed out of place being the very unladylike amount of food on her plate. Where most had picked one meal, and some others a combination of two, she practically had a six inch pile of meat on her plate, with roast potatoes looking about ready to roll off from the sides. Since this didn't leave much room for vegetables, she simply brought a second plate for them. Oh, and for some more potatoes too.

Much to her surprise (and relief), Jerinia wasn't feeling as nervous as she had felt at the start of her first two classes. Much like her students were getting used to the One Power, she guessed she was just getting used to teaching them about it. She shifted her seat, mentally going through the list of things she could teach them, and her desk held an assortment of items of all shapes and sizes, making it appear somewhat cluttered.
As her students started to drip in, she would greet them a little more enthousiastically than she normally did, which in all effect meant downright giddy for anyone else's standards. She'd wait until they were all seated, after which she would stand up again to walk in front of her desk as always, only this time having to move a couple of objects before she hd enough room to sit on the edge of the desk.
- "Good morning, i hope you all managed to get the threads under control, because i've got something special in mind for today's lesson. Remember last week, when i said you probably wouldn't be able to make any actual weaves? Well, today i'll be showing you a couple of simple ones. First though, i'll need you to show me how far you've progressed, so i have an indication of what elements you're all strong in. Any volunteers that feel up to going first?"
She beamed a smile at her students, waiting for the first person to come up. Would it be Allriane again? Or Katiana? Or perhaps her own mentee? Either way, she'd look at how well they could control their threads and pick simple, utilitarian weaves for them accordingly. The items she had on the table would help as well, acting as targets for them to unleash their weaves onto.

((OOC: Look at this page and pick anything with a requirement of 10 Skill or below except Elemental Blades, Grenade, Quagmire and Air Shield. The objects on the table include large bowls of earth, a small pile of stones, some candles, a bucket of water and a stack of parchment (which Jerinia won't allow you to set fire to -- been there, done that :P). At your current ability they are all completely harmless, so practise a bit and have some fun.))
