  1. With two positions filled in the Band's quest of picking the Dream Band, it is time to pick the next stage to focus on. Above is a poll of the main areas we still need to focus on. Please pick which area you want to decide next. Poll ends on Monday 1st February, and we shall start nominating names for whichever area we are looking at. Below are the spaces filled so far, and a link to the "It's A Knockout" thread for the winner. Guitarist: Carlos Santana LINK Bassist: Geddy Lee LINK

  2. After the success of last year's "It's A Knockout" for the best selling singles of 2008, the contest returns with the top 16 singles from the UK chart, according to BBC Radio 1. "It's A Knockout" remains with the longer format this month - and this means there are 16 songs instead of 8! And the 16 songs are the top 16 from the Radio 1 link. "It's a Knockout" - Format For those of you who have not been involved with a "It's A Knockout" thread before, the rules are quite simple. The Band of the Red Hand is DM's travel and music ORG, and "It's a Knockout" is a knock out competition to find out the winner of the chosen category - this time, the top sell…

Or any particular suggestions other than those listed above? There are lots of countries and unique foods to go with these countries, so we'll have plenty of these! Hopefully we can make it to every country in the world! Right now, I'm just curious where I should begin with my research for this during the weekend! Personally, I would like to start with Spain...but I was thinking about waiting until I'm actually there for those ;)

  4. Started by Krakalakachkn,

Hey all! Here is the newest member to our glorious band, Master Norry! Welcome Master Norry! Corki, our marshal general will be along shortly to give you the official spiel. In the meantime, tell us about yourself and enjoy this glass of bandy. *Hands bandy to the RR* enjoy!

  6. Started by Corki,

Well, as October's theme is the first stage in creating a dream Band, I am opening a thread to allow which positions in the group should be filled. I am happy for as many positions as possible. Each month will start off with a thread to allow names to be suggested for the "It's A Knockout" style contest to pick the overall winner. Below are the 5 positions that I think should be filled: - Male vocals - Female vocals - Guitarist - Bassist - Drummer - Keyboardist I shall start off with Guitarists for October.

  7. Please welcome our latest Raw Recruit to the Band of the Red Hand - Deviations! You have made a great move in signing up. You will be getting quite a bit of information in the coming days - so don't hesitate to ask questions should you get confused. Hopefully some Banders will be along to invite you. I have asked you to be added to the Band's usergroup here at DM. I will let you know when you have been added. Between now and receiving the Official Spiel, sit back and relax and take in the sights!

  8. Looking around, it is difficult to realize that the Band of the Red Hand also delights in Travel and Eating, as well as music. In order to gain more awareness in the traveling and eating side of the Org, I am thinking of running threads similar to the "Tune or No Tune" thread that Corki has every week. For Eating..... This thread would be titled "To Eat or Not to Eat" (ignore the English major's Shakespeare reference...) In this thread, Banders can suggest to me by PM various meals they have tried or would like to try from around the world. Every month will concentrate on a different country and hopefully we can find a way to mention every country in …

So I'm bored, and I like music, and I think pretty highly of myself, so before I join the rank and file I want to find out if it's worth it or not. I read the 100 Reasons, pretty amusing I must say, but since this is all about the music, heres a little test. Umdomskulen The Whitest Boy Alive GY!BE The Mahavishnu Orchestra Awesome? Y/N I figure these are some pretty esoteric bands. If someone (It can be a group effort) can provide a comment or post about how awesome one or more of these bands are, I'll join, and submit to my betters. Also this is a shallow attempt to entertain myself whilst whiling away the hours at work. I also dig quite a lot…

  11. Started by Vorkia,

  12. Started by Jeannaisais,

I'm moving all my stuff back to college tomorrow and then flying out to Tennessee tomorrow afternoon and spending the weekend with my boyfriend and his mom, step-dad and grandparents. I'll be back either Monday night or Tuesday morning, depending on how exhausted I am and what school related stuff I have to get ready for!

  13. Started by Corki,

Gonna stick around this time to finish your Recruit training? ;) Oh, and I had better say welcome back! Now, do you want the awesome speil again?

  14. Started by Tynaal Consen,

Okay maybe I'm just blind and stupid... But eh... Why do I see some strange child board?? >.> Oh and secretly I know its just your desire to recruit me.. But I like acting blond ;)

  15. The music theme for January 2010 in the Band of the Red Hand is "2009 and the Noughties". This is part of our review of the musical year that was 2009 and the decade that was the Noughties. There will also be a look at the artists to look out for in 2010. There are a host of activities surrounding this theme, which you can find highlighted below. IT'S A KNOCKOUT - BIGGEST SELLING SINGLES OF 2009 Following on from the 2008 contest, where Nickleback won with Rockstar, the top 16 selling singles from the UK chart go head-to-head to determine which was the best song from 2009, according to DM. 16. Started by Corki,

January 2010 is here and a new decade has started. We left the Noughties behind a few days ago, and it is time to look back at the music of that decade. Along with a *It's A Knockout" thread for the top selling singles of 2009 (from the UK chart), we will have a similar contest for what you felt were the best songs from the Noughties. This thread allows you to nominate the songs you felt best summed up music from between 2000 to 2009, whether it be rock, pop, classical, metal, hip-hop, electronica - anything goes! The songs picked here have a good chance of going into the "It's A Knockout" contest to select DM's Best Song from the Noughties. And below is what you need to …

  17. After the success of this idea last year, the thread returns even if I do not feel very Christmasy at the moment - blame some nasty accountancy exams and a busy schedule at work. But I will persevere - here is the second ever Musical Advent Calendar from the Band of the Red Hand! Each day, between now and Christmas Eve, I'll be posting a musical treat for you. Some songs will be Christmasy, others will be just absolute classics that everyone loves. And to add to the surprise, all there will be is the link to youtube. So sit back and enjoy the surprises for each day! And I will try not to match the same 100% as last year - or get songs on the same day! THE DAYS…

  18. "It's A Knockout" starts for its second Christmasy theme, using the songs that you chose in the nomination thread. "It's A Knockout" remains with the longer format this month - and this means there are 16 songs instead of 8! Eleven (11) have been chosen by you, with the remaining five (5) being added by me. So it is now time to find out what DM's favourite Christmas song is! Don't forget to get involved in the Christmas Carol version of this contest. Click here to get involved! "It's a Knockout" - Format For those of you who have not been involved with a "It's A Knockout" thread before, the rules are quite simple. The Band of the Red Hand is DM…

  19. "It's A Knockout" continues this month but takes a break from creating the Band's Dream Band. The festive season means that the focus is on Christmasy songs and music. And you are in for a double bonazaa this Christmas, with a re-run of last year's "Christmas Carol - It's A Knockout" and one with your nominated tunes. The aim of the re-run is to see if Hark! The Herald Angel Sings can maintain its crown, or if a different carol can win. Those that reached the semi-final last year are seeded this year as follows: 1. Hark the Herald Angels Sing 2. O Come All Ye Faithful 3. O Little Town of Bethlehem 4. Once in a Royal David's City There shall be a few …

  20. I am resurrecting one of two simple games for the Band of the Red Hand ORG. It is 20 Questions, and is based on one of our ORG themes (music). I am starting with a clean slate to make things easy. Rules Everyone should know the rules for 20 Questions. But if you don't, here they are for this game: - The aim is to work out the answer that has been thought up through a series of questions and guesses, and aiming to be correct within 20 turns - Only ONE question/guess can be asked in a post at a time (i.e. no multipal questions and guesses). If people most more than one, I will delete all questions except the first one you asked - Before you can ask anothe…

It's been some time since the UK has seen a battle for the Christmas number 1 after the years of manufactured pop music courtesy of Simon Cowell. But there again, who has cared since single sales have been down? 2009 saw the return of a decent battle, thanks to an internet campaign via Facebook to dislodge Mr Cowell and his grip on the number 1 at Yuletide. And the song chosen was Rage Against the Machine's Killing In The Name - not a particularly Christmasy song. Cowell claimed it was an attack against him (well, duh!), and it was stupid. Even music heavyweights like Sir Paul McCartney thought it was a fun idea. And the good news is that Cowell's grip on the …

I wasn't entirely sure if I could post here, so I carry on in trepidation. Anyway, the point of this post was to let you all know of a new game that I have devised on an external forum. The game basically lets you control a nation out of WoT, sort of like Age of Empires however there is much, much more that you can do in my game. The aim of the game is to conquer/control as much of Randland as you can, to do this you can use Military strength, Subterfuge, Economy or perhaps Diplomacy. It is up to you which route your country takes. The limits of the game are your own imagination. If you are interested here is the link; http://rulewot.proboards.com/ Pop by have a …

Ok, normally this kind of thing should be posted closer to New Years, but there is nothing interesting released in what remains of 2009, so might as well go there now. Maybe giving someone ideas for christmas ;D In no particular order... Kent – Röd Having been Swedens most popular pop/rock group since the mid 90s, they are now heading more and more into electronica land. This is probably what Depeche Mode wanted to sound like when they tried to update their sound with the fairly unsuccessful Sounds Of The Universe. Thåström – Kärlek är för dom Swedens leading rockstar since 1978 continues to do whatever he bloody wants. After his last mos…

  26. The music theme for December in the Band of the Red Hand is "Christmas Songs and Music", as we take a break from our "Dream Band" season, which will return in the New Year. There are a host of activities surrounding this theme, which you can find highlighted below. NOMINATE YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONGS For the beginning of December, I am looking to you to nominate which are your favourite Christmas songs. You can nominate classics or hymns - anything you think is Christmasy. I am looking for between 8 and 16 songs (the more, the merrier), and those nominated will go into the "It's A Knockout" contest to decide what is DM's favourite Christmas Song. Nominate …

  27. December is upon us and Christmas is drawing nearer. Well, for me, it doesn't feel like that yet, but it shall do soonish. This is a follow on from last year where we focused solely on Christmas Carols, where Hark, the Herald Angels Sing won the contest. Anyway, this thread allows you to nominate your favourite Christmas songs (rock, pop, classical, hymns) to go into the "It's A Knockout" contest to select DM's favourite Christmas Song. And below is what you need to do! Between now and TUESDAY 8TH DECEMBER 2009, nominate your favourite Christmas songs to challenge for the title of DM's favourite Christmas Song. Follow the simple proforma below to get a nomination in.…

Welcome to the Band Maradon, its always nice to have new blood around. Corki should be around shortly to give you the most anticipated Official Spiel. But until then have a Flaming Shot- the official drink of the archers. But be careful, not to burn yourself on the flames. ;) By the way I'm Vorkia, a recently returned archer. I can't tell you much of the recent going on's yet since i'm trying to reacquaint myself with the band myself. But I can tell you that you will have the most fun with the time you spend with us. The band is by far the best org around and the archers are the best division in the band. Now the other divisions will try to convince you otherw…

Hey guys. I discovered this new website called GrooveShark via my roommate and it is AWESOME! Basically you type in an artist, song, or album into a search bar and you can listen to music for free! You can also make playlists and add songs to your library, or just listen to it in the search results. They have pretty much everything I've searched for. Unfortunately, as near as I can tell, you can't have "friends" like you can on last.fm. However, you can become "fans" of people, which means you can make playlists that they can listen to, and they can see your music library. It's pretty sweet. So far I've made a Christmas playlist and a Rap playlist.…

  30. "It's A Knockout" returns again this month as the Band of the Red Hand continues to create its Dream Band. We have already filled the position of Guitarist, which was won by Carlos Santana. Up next is the Bass Player, with Male and Female Vocals, Drummer and Keyboardist to come. Eleven (11) Bassists got nominated to challenge for the honour, and a further five (5) have been added by Corki to compete for the position in the Band's Dream Band. The Bass Player that makes it into the Band's Dream Band is the one that wins this "It's A Knockout" contest. It is basically down to you to pick who gets that important position. "It's A Knockout" remains with the longer format …
