  1. I am putting a poll up to see if people want me to continue this thread into October. Just vote "yes" to continue it, or "no" for it to stop. Please post your views on how often you want songs to be posted, i.e. it is currently every day, or maybe 2 a week, or every 2 days. Also, if people want to run the thread for a week, let me know if this would be considered by you. And any other comments you want to me. The poll ends in 5 days time - so Sunday 4th October 2009.

  2. The travel theme for September in the Band of the Red Hand is "Historical Places To Travel To", and also happens to be our first travel theme. Things may not go 100% to plan, as this is a new venture for the Band, so it may take a few attempts to get this working properly. But let's give it a go! IT'S A KNOCKOUT When I get back off holiday, I will get a "It'a A Knockout" style contest up about some of the great historical sites in the world as we try and find the best. GENERAL THREADS This is probably where most of the activity will fall for the theme. I will try and get a couple of threads up before I leave on holuday. And do check this thread…

  8. Attention all members of the Band of the Red Hand! Specifically, various Europeans out there! September is here, and so before the long haul of winter its time to cheer yourselves up. This is the chance to visit one of the premier capitals of the world (OK, stretching it a bit for London!) and meet various other Dragonmount personnel for a couple of days of fun, frivolity...etc. As yet, we have a date, the weekend of the 26th and 27th of September 2009. Daetirion (he roped me into this, damn him!) and myself are in the process of working on more stuff. However it very much depends on what people want to do, and who wants to come. Therefore, im throwing it o…

  9. Right...I have stopped being lazy and finally gotten around to posting a poll to determine the first ever travel theme month for the Band of the Red Hand. Below are the 4 options up I have picked with the best promoise for a theme month. 1. Australia This can be linked with the idea of a "Beach Music" month. Oh, and it would give Corki a great amount of time to brag about the Ashes returning to England. Okay, that has nothing to do with travel, but who cares! Suggested by Zophiel 2. National Parks A discussion on the numerous beautiful National Parks in the world. There is the possibility of doing a "It's A Knockout" for National Parks to determine …

The music theme for September in the Band of the Red Hand is "Covers". There are a host of activities surrounding this theme, which you can find highlighted below. TUNE OR NO TUNE As a result, for the following weeks, songs that are frequently covered will be picked for "Tune or No Tune": - Monday 31st August 2009 - Monday 7th September 2009 - Monday 14th September 2009 - Monday 21st September 2009 - Monday 28th September 2009 If you want to nominate a song that you think has been covered frequently for "Tune or No Tune", please contact me by PM or email (shen_an_calhar@hotmail.co.uk). IT'S A KNOCKOUT I am not 100% sure how I can wor…

  11. Right...I have stopped being lazy and finally gotten around to posting the poll to see what September's music theme should be. Below are the 4 options up I have picked with the best promoise for a music theme month. 1. Girl Groups A focus on girl groups through the years. An easy "Tune or No Tune" option, as well as relatively easy for "It'a A Knockout". Can provide a good source for discussion. Suggested by Corki 2. Beach Music Since summer is until nearly the end of September, how about "Beach Music" for a music theme? Suggested by Zophiel 3. Covers How about a covers month? Instead of a "It's A Knockout", I have a thread up where the origi…

  12. After last month's successful "It's A Knockout", which focused on songs by Michael Jackson, the thread continues this month, focusing on August's theme of "One Hit Wonders". The winner of the Michael Jackson "It's A Knockout" was Thriller, which beat Beat It in the Final. "It's A Knockout" continues with the longer format this month - and this means there are 16 songs instead of 8! The theme for August's "Tune or No Tune" has been "One Hit Wonders", and we are continuing this. I will do my best to pick songs that have been one hit wonders, but it is a murky area! Have fun! "It's a Knockout" - Format For those of you who have not been involved with a "…

  14. Started by Corki,

Some of you may be wondering what have been my sources for all my "One Hit Wonders". Below I will post the link to where I have been getting the songs. http://www.onehitwondercentral.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-hit_wonder (yes, I know it is wikipedia, the "most reliable" source on the net) http://www.philbrodieband.com/muso-charts-one-hit-wonders.htm There are plenty of places on the internet. Classifying a song as a "One Hit Wonder" isn't easy as highlighted by the discussion on the subject on wikipedia. Most of the songs I have chosen can fall in the category, but I know Majsju has questioned my call on The Final Countdown by Europe. Do you…

  15. I see we are a bit slow on the uptake of welcoming new members, but I am now putting the record straigh! So welcome to the Band, a pale tanned lover! Do you have a shorter name we can call you by? Either that, or I think we shall call you Pale. The Band is currently going through a transistional phase at the moment since we are moving back to DM, so please bear with us. Things are quiet (or busy with some of us), but I plan to change that with an activity-based points system, which appears to be bearing some rewards. So the more active you are in posting in certain threads, the better for you in getting points, and then promotions! I have asked you to be added t…

  25. It's been a month or so since the last "It's A Knockout", but it returns for July. The previous contest was for winning songs from the Eurovision Song Contest, which was split into two threads. The overall winner was Marija Šerifović, who beat ABBA in the Grand Final. "It's A Knockout" returns this week, and we are sticking with the longer format - and this means there are 16 songs instead of 8! Following the unexpected death of the musical genius that was Michael Jackson, the Band is focusing on his music for the month of July. I've picked 16 of his better known songs and thrown them into the contest as we determine what DM thinks is Michael Jackson's greatest song…

  27. Started by Corki,

Corki stands outside a newly erect building after the fun and games of the last Stumbling Soldier thread. The building glistens in the mid-day sun, showing off its newness and splendour. Across the door is a shiny red ribbon, and in Corki's hands is a pair of scissors. Corki opens the blades of the scissors and goes to cut the ribbon. Corki addresses all the Band Members, and any passer-bys, standing before him. "Band Members, and Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to welcome you to the Band of the Red Hand's general tavern again, The Stumbling Soldier. Everything is clean and tidy after the mess in the last Tavern (whenever that was!)! A wide variety of Battle Brews…
