In a castle in the clouds, Queen Diane, her face red from strain and her hands deathly white from grasping the bed posts, was on her bed in labour. Next to the Queen sat the mid-wife helping her through the labour. The Queen's room was circular in shape and painted pink. The eaves were made of gold and there was an elaborate chandelier made of many tiny diamond crystals which reflected the light from the golden eaves, so making the chandelier shine like a miniature sun. The bed was made of mahogany, the mattress was of soft down, the bedsheets and blankets were made of pure white silk, and the pillows were made of red velvet. Nythaganius, the King was very anxio…

Hello, I am a new member at DM. I've Recently applied for the illuminators org because I like to write poetry and so I asked to join. I also wrote a summary of myself there, but this is new for WT. So, I am 15 and finishing year 10 in school. Live in England, and play sports of which my favourites are basketball and table tennis. I don't read much books, I am a bit picky. But I like poetry and so I like to read poetry. I don't talk much *shy* because sometimes I don't know what to talk about. I'll leave it at that so I can to more later, thank you reading *bows and smiles*

Seeing so many new novices and algai inspired me to make this thread. Some of us around here are so old in DM years that people cannot imagine that we were ever novices or algai, so I thought that sharing some of our memories would be a nice way for the newer members to see that we were once just as they were. :) Here are some of my memories: 1.) Feeling all excited and tingly when I got the official welcome e-mail from Taya (the MoN at the time) saying I was a novice of the White Tower. I was so eager to become an Aes Sedai, just like in the books! 2.) My mentor, Malone. She had gotten raised to Aes Sedai right before I joined, so I was her first mente…

This is a "spur of the moment idea" sort of thing. This is a short story of 607 words, enjoy! Dalwyn, the High General of the Light Army, was standing on the white sandy beach looking towards the sea with a spyglass to his right eye. The hot sun was beating down on him and the army of footmen behind with the cavalry flanking on either side, making them all sweat and squint in the harsh light. He was a muscular man with broad shoulders, and clean-shaven. His hair was a pale blond and fell to his shoulders and he had stunning green eyes. He wore a white cloak amd a burnished breastplate with leather gauntlets. He had white trousers and his sword at his hip. …

Hello everyone, as you may have noticed, the Purple Event (meaning: Red and Blue Ajah in collaboration ;D ) has taken off with a bang! The Riddle Me This and the Battle Of The Bard competitions are up and running and may the best person win! I already know I won't win the riddle one, man are those tough! :o Now as some of you may have noticed in the Battle of the Bard thread, there is also a competition going for the signature that will be awarded to the winners of both competitions. Le Rules: The siggies should correspond to the theme, of course (see current Event siggies on display by Red and Blue Ajah members for theme examples). The best way t…

So I'd like to teach a class and I'm throwing around some ideas. I want to a) if there is interest and b) how much interest Here are the possible topics: 1. Un-proven Phenomena in Physics (dark matter, Higgs-Boson, Unified Force Theory, etc.) 2. Triathlons (Basic info, types of races, equipment, training) 3. Cool stuff in Biotechnology (Lab on a Chip, Nanobombs, new experiments and developments in Biotech) 4. Hinduism: wtf is it exactly? I'm Biomedical Engineering graduate with Math and Theatre Arts minors getting a Masters in Math who is training for a Triathlon. I'm also a Hindu. Hence the potential topics. Welcome to the 1st Annual Battle of the Bards, hosted by the Red and Blue Ajahs! Your task in this challenge is to compose a poem (or two) about the Ajah of your choice. If you choose an Ajah other than Red or Blue , you also have to compose one for the Red or Blue Ajah (or both) just because we love our Ajahs so much! LOL! Seriously, you don't really have to do that but we certainly won't complain if you do. ;D We do have some rules for the poetry. Any form of poetry is welcome but each poem must have a minimum of 5 lines and a maximum of 30. While we love reading praise of any Ajah, too many 100-line poems would be laborious to go through! If you work…

1. You wake up at 3a.m. to go to the bathroom, and check for any new posts on the way back to bed. 2. You name your children/pets after characters in the books. 3. You log off of DM and are suddenly filled with a feeling of emptiness, as if you just pulled the plug on a loved one. 4. You can't get enough of these people online and go to meets and cons to hang out with them in person. 5. You find yourself using phrases from the books such as "Mothers milk in a cup!" , "Light!", "Blood and bloody ashes!" 6. You wish you could channel for various reasons. (Travelling, Healing, teaching that idiot that cut you off a lesson) 7…

So. The farm we live on for years was used as a homing pigeon breeding facility. Apparently at one point it was THE top pigeon stud in the U.S. The previous two owners both bred pigeons and such. When the last owner died a few years ago, his widow sold the birds and the property. Homing pigeons were once used to carry messages and the like, sometimes traveling over 1000 miles. They primarily are used in races now. We've heard stories from the neighbors about the big races they would host here each year. Breeders would send their birds here to be raised (because birds return to where they hatched/were raised). Then they'd come out here, take their birds som…

This thread is for you to use to heap praises upon our bards or their work(s)! No need to dash off to Ajah boards (although you are more than welcome and even encouraged to do so) to heap acclaim upon their efforts - you can all gather around in this cozy yet spacious Bard's Cottage, partake of some spiced (spiked?) cider, and discourse on the entries presented in the Battle of the Bards thread. A word of caution, though . . . please take it easy on the cider; overindulgence resulting in emptying of stomach contents will get you on cleaning detail for a month or two! ;D And a spanking. Definitely a spanking. ;D

Dear Forum, Things that came up during my day. 1) Scarf tying. Why is it that no matter how you've tied your scarf, there's always a better way!? And what's the point anyway, is a slipknot going to make you any warmer than a Peacock? I think not. Finally, I am a male. Males should not have to worry excessively about dress, since it is females that do that. Why do I even care!? 2) Mice. Why do people scream at them if they're dead? What is so scary about a dead mouse? Why scream at a dead mouse and not a dead possum on the road? The possum has been much more brutally squished, for a start. And there's more important things in the world to worry about, like …

I am having a vent after something just happened with me and my little sister. The horrible child just gave me a really funny look when she went past my room into the bathroom, so I went to ask her what the look was for... not in a nasty way, I just wondered what I had done. She then proceeded to be not very nice and went to kick the door shut, not giving me time to get my head out of the way. So I had the door shut on my head, which really hurt... and still does. I don't know what I did but I've only been home for 2 days and she is already picking fights... this is going to be a fun summer, I can tell :( Does anyone else have problems with their siblings?

I just found out that Sheldon (actor Jim Parsons) got his MFA from the University of San Diego, which was my undergraduate university! Not only that, but he was there at the same time I was! He graduated from there in 2001, which was when I was ending my sophomore year of undergrad. I found out because our alumni magazine came in the mail today, complete with Sheldon on the cover and an interview with him. While I was at USD, I ran into the MFA people occasionally because they often used the dance studio for things, and I was often over at that corner of campus using the dance studio myself. I cannot recall, but it would have been cool if I had passed Sheldon i…
