It is the beginning of the Red Ajah's International Women's Week 2015, and I have prepared a bit of a quiz for you all. There are some difficult questions, some not so much, and all about women. Thanks to TinaHel for the inspiration. Send your responses by PM to me by the end of the week 1. What is the name of the author who claimed the reason there were so few female authors was that they had no room of their own? 2. What is the name of this young heroine? 3. Can you name a goddess of love and the religion or mythology she belongs to? 4. Who has been called the «Iron Lady»? 5. Who was the first female head of government? …

  7. Hey y'all, have you ever heard a story about a woman that influenced you, someone you know or the world at large? Someone like Mother Theresa? Why don't you share a story about her, show us a picture if you can find one, or shoot us a link to her wiki page with a little blurb about why you think she deserves the title of International Influential Woman. I'll start us off with Kate Middleton. From this: To this: I think that Kate is an inspiration to all women out there. She did not let the humble(ish) beginnings of her birth stop her from going after everything she wanted out of life. She got a freakin' Prince of her own out of the …

  8. I figured this whole thing with raising girls would be easy. You know; paint some nails, brush some hair, makeup... Not so much. I have two girls. One is eight and the other turned 11 today (Happy Birthday, Jackie!). I still do nails, hair and makeup but a girls life is so much more. My girls worry about these things plus school and grades, boys and other girls, body image, the newest hottest singer, the biggest fad and many other things. And this list doesn't even cover things like the female high school dropout rate, rape culture, inequality in the work-force, or body shaming. But just because my girls don't think about it now, doesn't mean my girls ar…

Hello everyone! We thought it would be a fun idea to organise a cultural exchange activity in the White Tower. The idea is that those of us that wish to participate get to send one item to at least one other person in the group that is indicative of their culture. Now don't be alarmed, this does not need to be big or expensive. Think outside the box. The idea is to exchange information about your culture with other people through a fun activity that takes the online experience in to real life. It's not supposed to make your bankrupt! Example: A Scottish person may find it a bit expensive to send a kilt to someone. However, it might be much more doable for them …

Hello, everyone~ I'm here on behalf of the Red Ajah in hosting this year's Women's Week! What I bring is on a more personal level, and I hope you will share your stories with us. Our entire lives are influenced by those around us, even if we try not to be. Both men and women save lives daily, and destroy them. This week, though, we will focus on the ladies who have done good. I could ask you about your favorite female politician, or who your favorite historical figure is, but here, I want to know about your stories. Personally, who has influenced you? Your mother? Girlfriend? Daughter? Aunt? Friend? Your favorite actress? Lady Gaga, maybe? The nice barista who always …

Edit: Thank you all for playing!! Cindy, you are our winner and as such you get to choose one item of service that this Algai has to perform for the next week. It cannot be humiliating or illegal but can be silly. Some idea's would be flowery words of praise said to one person in every thread they post in once per day, a silly phrase tacked on to the end of every post that I make anywhere in the tower for the next week, etc. Have fun and let me know what you decide!!! Hello and Welcome to the Blue Ajah BluCon!!! I shall be your humble "Who said that" Game manager. Please correctly guess the speaker of the quote, earn points and win an awesome prize ;) I'…

In this thread we;ll be discussing Super Heroes and Super Powers. Each day i'll post a new topic of discussion in this post for use to discuss :) Day 1 - If you could choose 1 super power, what would you choose and why? How would you use your super power? Would you be a good guy, a villain or a merc? Day 2 - In the debate between DC versus Marvel, which universe is better in your opinion. Also, who is your favorite: X-men, Avenger, Justice Leauger, favorite DC & Marvel hero/villain? Day 3 - do you think the willingness to kill, to do what ever needs to be done to get the job done, is what makes a villain; or do you think that in certain s…

Heart has traveled the Tower, far and wide and asked several of our members the question: "What is in your purse?" Unfortunately, Heart has been forced to vacate the Tower for what we hope is a short time. So I will list the items in each of the purses and it will be your job to figure out who is the owner. Each correct guess is worth five points and the person with the most points at the end of the game wins. Ready? Good! Here we go! 18. Hello All, Right now is supposed to be Warder's Gameshow Week. Unfortunately, with my busy schedule (I'm currently working two jobs, on personal projects, and switching to another job which requires a sleep schedule change), and with Heart gone too, there's not a lot I can get done. With that we don't have many threads, for that you have my apologies, however, I wanted to give an incentive for those participating. The points earned in games will go towards things that you can purchase - in specific - things you can make me do Here are some ideas that I have (I will eventually apply point values to these) Kronos draws you a picture (ok - I'm not da Vinci - …

Welcome to the Brown Ajah Travel Event! Sometimes traveling results in a permanent change of residence. While moving can be intimidating sometimes, it can also be rewarding. I've moved around quite a bit. Some short moves (different parts of the same city), some long ones (different countries). This resulted in me never going to school in one place for more than 3 years, unless you want to count university, which would make it 4. Mostly, I moved around because of my dad's job, but more recently it's been for my education. So, to get this discussion started, I'd like to throw some questions out there. Feel free to add any of your own. How many times have…

  20. If anybody has ever traveled before (including a move), then you know that it is best and impossible not to prepare for your travel. Do you do anything specific to prepare for your travel, such as finding a pet sitter, laying out all your clothes, buying new clothes, etc?

  21. welcome to the BATE! This question has come up for me with the last couple of travel events... and with just about every trip I've ever taken. I know the Brown Party Position on travel is.... travel good, lets take a road trip. But as much as I've enjoyed some of the trips I've taken... some very much... I would never, of my own volition, decide to go on a trip for the sake of traveling. given my druthers... I'd snuggle up in bed and spend all my time off right here, safe, and comfy. my husband is a traveler, and has been more places than I can keep track of. and he enjoys this activity of leaving the familiar and setting out on the road. he enjoy…

  22. Hello all and welcome to the fabulous Brown Ajah Travel Event! Travelling is something that is seen by many people as a must have experience. Being immersed in other cultures and learning from people different from you - even the people a few hours away in the car - can be a wonderful and thought changing event. However in this day and age money tends to be tight and travelling (vacationing/holidays) seems to be more difficult. Therefore, I want to talk about this: Does anyone have any advice for travelling on the cheaper side? Any tips on places to go that are wonderful but a bit cheaper? Does anyone just prefer not to travel and just stay at home…

  23. Culture Shock. If you've ever traveled or moved, there is a chance you've vfelt like this: This can happen with even the slightest move or trip: from one city to another, one state to another, one country to another. So, to open the discussion, Let me ask: Have you ever felt culture shock? When? How did you handle it?

  24. What are the interesting things/ traditions/ festivals/ etc that you like in your culture? What are the interesting things/ traditions/ festivals/ etc that you like in some other culture? What are the things you look forward to?

    Started by Guest,

With talk of a "global culture" today and the continued discrimination and persecution of one ethnicity or one cultural group upon another, questions regarding and examination of culture, one's own and others, is of great significance. Today (August 9th), is the UN-declared International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, a day meant to raise awareness of indigenous peoples worldwide, who face genocide and increasing threat of extinction now more than ever before, and promote their right to exist both as people and as distinctive cultures and their importancce to the growing ecological crisis of the planet. The day and what it stands for is a testament t…
