Okay, I'm making assumptions here, but let's say the Light wins TG, everything ends happily ever after, and Rand lives to see another day? What will he do with his life? First, he needs to sleep for about two months... but he always talks about how the nobles don't need to like him, they just need to listen to him until TG. I would be fascinated if he decided to go back to the Two Rivers and became a sheep herder again - he would be able to say "I had my duty as Dragon Reborn, and I carried it out. I'm sick of the lords plotting against me, I just want a simple life." Of course, he could live with Elayne, but he'll still have an ego and I'm not sure he'll be able to handl…

To recap: I read The Eye of the World in 1990 and remember liking it, but I never read any of the further WOT volumes. Over the years, I became curious about the series, especially when my nephew started reading it through. I bought the last two volumes for him as Xmas presents and this opened up a lot of discussion about the series. I finally decided to give WOT a second chance last august and picked up EOTW. Due to various factors, it took me longer than expected to finish the novel, which I did last night. I remembered almost nothing of the story from 1990, it was like reading a new book. So here's my immediate response: Criticisms: 1. I could lighten this text…

I'm doing my pre-AMOL re-reread, and I noticed something odd. It's been a while since I read the Guide, and I don't have my copy any more so I cannot check, but I think there are two contradictions. If I remember correctly, The Collapse took approximately 130 years. After that, the War of Shadow started. In the Guide I remember reading that the actual war with the Shadowspawn lasted about a decade before the Strike on Shayol Ghul. Now, in The Shadow Rising, when Rand goes through the ter'angreal, he sees through the eyes of someone who hears that the war is over. The character is sixteen, and says (paraphrase) 'the war was old when he was born'. Also, there's another co…

  4. What would it be? I know several people who have thought up factions that they would form. I would like to know if any of you have one. I do have in in fact, I created it in a campaign of the WOT d20 game. I would like to point out that I created this faction before Dragon Age Origins came out, so I did not rip it off from that game. My faction was called the Grey Wardens. (Like I said this was before DAO came out.) They are warrior society that was formed in during the Trolloc Wars. It was formed by 6 Blademasters who wanted to pass on their knowledge and experience to others. Here is the layout of their group.... The Grey Wardens are split …

Just curious what fellow WoT enthusaists think about this. Ishamael/Moridin claims that the Dark One can bring the dead back to life. In part, we know this to be true for the Forsaken. However, the Forsaken are set apart for obvious reasons: they are darkfriends and have recieved the "chosen mark". So what about Ishamael's claim that the Dark One can resurect Ilyena, assuming she was not a darkfriend? On a similar note, what about Asmodean? And do the rules change if the DO "wins"? I ask because for the longest time I've assumed only the Forsakens' souls could be seized due to the black cords that connect them to the DO. But, from comments I've read, many people belie…

Hi all, Long time lurker, first time poster. I searched all over this forum to see if this had been addressed, but haven't seen any threads about it. My question is both simple and direct: as referenced in the prologue of EotW, what is "the Voice"? As in, Lews Therin asks Elan Morin if he has "the Voice", because it will soon be time for "the Singing". If this has been discussed, please point me to the discussion and pardon my ignorance... My intuition has always told me that it must have something to do with the Tinkers or Ogier Song, but I wanted to get others' opinions as well. Also, is there anything from either RJ or BS in regard to the Voice? …

Hey guys, This thought recently came to me, and I can't seem to logically resolve this question on my own. It was mentioned somewhere that the Forsaken (actually I'm going to use "Chosen" in this context) were chosen not simply because they were strong in the Power, but also talented in other areas. They are generals, dream-walkers (sort of,) researchers, healers, artists, innovators, and much more. It certainly does make sense that you would want your supreme leaders to have many skills which set them apart from the masses. In LoC there are a few conversations among the Chosen about searching for caches of angreal and ter'angreal and such. They are obvious…

in general we know that the crystal throne is a ter'angreal. and the only ruler in the known world that would be murderous because rand sat on their seat is a seanchan ruler. rand can pick it up, he has a close friend who is seanchan and can channel. and if the crystal throne is what i think it is (the tamyrlin's seat) being as the tamyrlin also controls "the rods of dominion" it makes one wonder what such a revered chair might be able to do (amyrlin seat. that chair doesn't seem to do anything) but the title comes from an obvious source, why call it a seat, unless the chair was recognizable. and perhaps the empress of seanchan (may she live forever) sits on this throne/s…

I am new here so if this has already been talked about to death sorry. I googled and couldn't find anything on the net about it. Don't read if you have not read tower of Midnight. Here is how my theory goes. Cadsuane was put on the path to help the dragon reborn around the same time she earned all her ter angreal one of which was Mat's Foxhead. She was put on this path most likely by a proficiency or prophetic dream. As part of her quest she went to the tower of Ghenjei. The Doorway was in the waste so she had to enter the way Mat tom and Jain Farstrider did. She had to pay a price the price was the Foxhead. What she got is important to teaching Rand. Als…

Here be the prophecy in question, from TGH, chapter 6: "Daughter of the Night, she walks again. The ancient war, she yet fights. Her new lover she seeks, who shall serve her and die, yet serve still. Who shall stand against her coming? The Shining Walls shall kneel. Blood feeds blood. Blood calls blood. Blood is, blood was, and blood shall ever be." It's from the segment of Dark Prophecy the trollocs wrote on the cell-wall in Fal Dara. It's the 'yet serve still' part that confuses me. Theories: 1. A lot of people thought this may have refered to Moridin, who did of course die as Ishamael, and that there was something going on there. But when crafty in…

Throughout the books, the Dark One has had a somewhat contstant role, we actualy get communication from him/her/it to some of the Chosen. But why has there been nothing like that from the Creator? At first, I thought maybe the Creator was present in the form of the Pattern, but then thought better :) Is the Creator just relying on his instruments to so what is needed? Also, when Avi was heading to Rhuid (I'll leave it at that since I dont have the books close by to check the spelling) she stopped to camp before entering, and was met by an old woman....was she someone special? Just some thoughts.......

I am a seamstress and costumer, and I am DYING of curiosity about Fancloth. I know, essentially, what it is. What I'm really wondering is if there is any indication in the books of what it feels or looks like. I'm looking for specifics, facts or informed conjectures. Things like: what does it feel like? Is it silky? fuzzy? smooth, soft? warm feeling, cool feeling? rough woven? What color is it? I know it changes but do we have any idea what it oscillates between? Gray? Green? Brown? Black? Blue? I'd really appreciate any input you all have! Charis

So, like the rest of you, I've been thinking of the last book and the closure of the series. I've have some thoughts regarding the main plot, the Light' champion vs the Dark One, and the implications. Especially the choice of Brandon Sanderson as a writer got me thinking, with his previous work on the Mistborn trilogy. I've seen quite a few theories of the nature of the Dark One and the Creator. I agree with the conclusions made by many, supported by statements from RJ and revelations in the books; namely that the Dark One and the Creator are the personifications of destruction (entropy) and it's opposite, creation. Balanced, and equal, they must be evenly matched, a…

For some reason, at this late hour of the night (3 am EST right now), I got to randomly thinking about WOT and Rand and the overall story. For most of the thirteen (not counting NS since it isn't about Rand specifically) books, I've always seen the overall, general storyline as fairly straightforward: Rand trying to unite the lands in order to fight the DO and Darkfriends at Tarmon Gai'don. It was a simple Man vs. Supernatural conflict setup. For clarification purposes, I'm going to define what I mean when I say "conflict setup". I'm using the six basic ones that I found readily on Wikipedia: Man vs. Man - Most basic. Protagonist vs. Antagonist. Mano a Mano. Strai…

I was just rereading The Eye Of the World for the first time, and from my memory from reading all the books I had thought that Mat had developed those memories because of what happened to him with the Aelfinn. But when they run into the trollocs after escaping Baerlon and Rand and Perrin are shouting Manetheren, Mat shouts the warcry of the last king and when asked what he said, he says he doesn't remember. And Egwene said for a moment that she had thought she understood him. Like I said, its been a long time since I read these originally, did this scene mean anything, does Mat already have some memories of this king in him.

Okay, I got majorly sidetracked by life over the autumn, but I am now almost finished EOTW! Rand & Co. have just emerged from The Way. My opinion of the book only gets better as I read more of it. Apart from some very minor criticisms, I have to say this really is the best "fantasy" novel since Tolkien (up to 1990, anyway!). Grand stuff. I am recommending it right & left and I even gave a copy to someone! When I'm finished, I'll post a long review, around New Year's Day. I just thought I'd drop in & follow up on my posts from August. Happy Holidays everyone! I know what I'll be doing Xmas Eve after I watch the Dr. Who special with my nieces ;) Maybe I'll e…

Hello all, Due to unfortunate circumstances (I will spare everyone the sad story), I am in the position of needing to raise money. Sadly, I think I may have to part with my Wheel of Time book collection. Now, it has been a long time since I have been into booking collecting and Im not sure what the market would be for my collection. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me an idea of what this collection might bring? Here is a link to my Flickr page if anyone would like to see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jde75/sets/72157628371840061/ The collection includes: The bookclub edition of The Lord of Chaos with Jordan's name spelled as…

First off, hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. Just finished reading book thirteen and now want to see what kinds of theories and discussions are out there about the books. It looks like there are a ton. I did some perusing through these forums and did not see anything that mentioned this, so I figured I post this, as it is something I have been thinking about for a time now. I don't know if it meets the BUT criteria, but still find this curious. The question is what relationship there is between Sa'angreal and Saa (Sa'a). The first time I recall reading about Saa appearing in Moridin's eyes, it struck me as curious that it was spelled the same as the first…

We know the Guardian is incapable of doing so, but can a stedding do it? Given that a stedding intimidates Shadowspawns, which is a property the Guardian does not have, it does seem possible.

  24. So since Brandon likes to keep his own stats, I though I would have a go at seeing what his stats are saying too. The result I got looks something like this; This was made on the 17/09/2011 and the curve reaches 100% 36.95 days later. This puts AMOL at 100% complete on the...... 23rd October 2011!!! I know this could be wildly inaccurate, but it gives me hope to think that he will be finished before his personal early Nov deadline.

I don't have book 3 on me, so bear with me... Also, my apologies if this was brought up; I couldn't find it anywhere. IIRC, when Egwene goes thru her testing she mentions to Sheriam that Rand said they could turn him to the shadow. Sheriam then explains about the 13x13 trick. As far as I remember, there was no one in earshot. Egwene even mentioned to Sheriam that 13 black sisters fled the tower and Sheriam tells her that isn't her concern. Later, when Nyneave is captured in Tear, the BA capturing her says that "Be'lal is sending for myrdraal... THIRTEEN of them," then laughs as Nyn starts to scream. At the time I thought maybe this was just bad writing, si…

A lot of authors in FF attempt humour and just end up being lame. But RJ often made me literally LOL. The one that had me snorting and sniggering in the lamplight til my husband woke up and told me shush: LOC, Chapter 39, Possibilities. "Nynaeve had seen saidar fail around him, but she had dealt with recalcitrant men long before she learned to channel. With a muttered growl of "Warm my bottom?" that Egwene did not think was intended to be heard, Nynaeve deftly hiked up her skirts and kicked Mat squarely in his, so hard that he staggered all the way to the wall before catching himself with a hand...Mat turned his head slowly to stare at Nynaeve, all wide-eyed indig…

Okay, if this has been mentioned. . . .you know. I've read WOT 5-6 times, and never caught this. In TGH, in the chapter titled "Kinslayer" (page 243 in the mass market paperback) Rand is having a dream. He's already tripped through the portal stone, and Ba'alzy appears. They verbally spar for a minute, and then Ba'alzy says, "..."but my followers number even some of their own. The Aes Sedai called Moiraine told you who you are, did she not?" At this point, Mo has only told 1 person who the DR is; Suian. But Verin figured it out, and flatout asked them. Verin was also there when the Amyrlin told Rand he was the DR. So could it be that Verin told Ba'alzy (o…

will any of you feel cheated if Rand and Moridin merge and then someone balefires them as one and that's how Moridin is ultimately killed? And the reason I ask if you'll feel cheated is the fact that we haven't seen Rand face Moridin yet (I know I know as Ba'alzaamon we did) and it might feel kinda cheap if they don't fight in AMoL. I honestly wouldn't feel cheated but I do think they should battle. What is everyones opinion?

One thing that has me worried about this last book, and my worry has been growing as Brandon gets closer to finishing it, is how much there is going to be after the big climax. For example, at the end of Harry Potter and the battle between Harry and Voldemort, there is ~25 pages before the end of the book. When I first read the book, I was incredibly disappointed and felt that we were given the climax that we waited years for just to have the book end abruptly. While I don't think a Lord of the Ringsian 100 page finish after the destruction of the ring is necessary, a good 50-60 pages I think would be greatly appreciated. Am I crazy or am I on to something?
