I don't know whether this thread exists or not. If yes, please post a link to it; if no, please comment. Right now, I am on my way of rereading the entire WoT series, and some things struck out prominently than the rest. Let's start with Thom. The first thing that made me wonder about him was in "Leavetaking" of TEotW, when he mentions Draghkar. Moiraine's reaction towards it was puzzling for him, as though she did not expect Thom to know about this. The next thing that came to my attention was Min's viewing in "Strangers and Friends" in the very same book. Nearly all the viewings have been depicted, except "growth" around Perrin, "laughing face" around Mat and "m…

In ACoS35, Min and Rand are together in Rand's room. Min watches Rand, Views images and auras around him: "A tiny stab of guilt made her shift her seat on the coverlet. She had not really lied when he asked what viewings she had kept back. Not really. What good to tell him he would almost certainly fail without a woman who was dead and gone? He became bleak too easily as it was." Then Rand makes a gateway, and takes the two of them into a forested area, where they meet Caraline Damodred. For a moment Min thinks it is Moiraine, and thinks to herself that Moiraine was the only viewing of hers that had ever failed. Was she thinking of that earlier viewing? Or was…

Hi, people I am back after a very long time. See, you people never agree with me but here are my two cents anyway. I think in all the discussions there are two things that are constantly being ignored. May be i have missed the posts. First is one of the first viewings of Min that we know of. It went something like and I have just started my reread of the series and I am reading winternight. So, its pretty much from memory. "All of you have to be there. Moiraine asked where? I do not know somewhere all of you have too be there you even that gleeman, that woman sitting outside all of you or he will fail". As I said, I do not remember the exact quote but it was clearly told…

Hi all, Firstly, please forgive me if this has been discussed already, I did a search and couldn't find it. A pet theory of mine is that the One Power and True Power have a lot to do with the dream world. I want to say that using the OP/TP is an instance or manifestation of the dream world in the real world, but I don't have evidence to back that up - other than these similarities - In the Wolf Dream, Perrin's strength comes from his ability to exert his will on his surroundings - kinda like how Rand now exerts his will on his surrounding in the real world, for instance restoring grain that was rotten. Additionally, dream masters can make others bend to …

I've been thinking about this for a while now and from all the posts of the forum and general discussions there has been a total lack of comments from this point of view and I think it could get some creative juices going....well possibly: If you were the this type of person (I mean a character not described from the book), how would the world around you be changing, from book 1 to the end? 1. A farmer from the two rivers? 2. An infantry soldier recruited into the white tower? 3. Watching your friend and neighbour pass the test to become an ashaman? 4. As above but being recruited by the women of the sea (I don't remember their name so please forgive). I co…

In the fall of the AOL the Forsaken did not operate as they do now, in secret. They were cruel and wicked, and beyond vile. They were the Generals of Armies of the Shadow, creators of the Shadowspawn who used Balefire against entire cities, and who liberally used the power to twist the minds of men. They cleverly stated, "Let the Lord of Chaos Rule" and had a laugh over it at the appearance of Rand. But always they have operated in the shadows that we have seen so far, a few bold moves such as Caemlyn with Rahvin, battles with Trollocs, but always things that the people have been able to shake their heads at in the telling and dismiss as a crossing of rumors. "There …

In The Gathering Storm I noticed an oddity during the meeting between Tuon And Rand. Tuon says, As far as I am aware there had been absolutely no contact between those under Luthair in Saenchan and anyone on Randland. Therefore I was inclined to think of 'united kingdom' being Artur Hawkwing's Empire as the Saenchan would know nothing of its downfall. However if they expected a sort of successor empire I fail to see how they would be expecting to be lent armies. If their expectations leaned more to the former situation I fail to see why they would expect to be in a superior position to Hawkwing's successor in his Homelands. The Saenchan settler's also seems odd as it …

It might be argued that this question belongs either in the General WoT Discussion part of the forum or should be posted in the Callandor-third-wielder thread, but being unable to decide which was more appropriate I started a new topic here. If any admin feels disturbed, please move this to wherever it fits best. That said, let's start: Does anybody know why there are so many versions of how linking works, i.e. which gender has to lead in which circle constellations? Even some glossaries of different editions contradict each other. AND the forsaken (and Cadsuane) contradict the glossaries. Browsing the internet for this, I find Has nobody ever thought of asking BS to…

I was thinking lately on a question someone posed about the Dark One's actual endgame in Randland - the poster posited that if Shaitan really wished for an end to the Pattern he could just encourage his minions to let loose a vast assault of balefire and burn the Pattern until it yielded. This set me on a path of wondering how the Dark One has remained eternally imprisoned - either partially or fully and led me to think that resealing the bore as it was before Mierin's experiment may actually be a pointless labour. Consider - the person who drilled the bore is still alive. While previously she was actually a loose canon in terms of the Forsaken, she is now mindtrapp…

This one looks a little better than the Swedish report, and shorter too. Any Italians here? It's post #57 of this thread: http://www.labarrier...opic=2023&st=45 The direct link might or might not work. There is also a shorter report later in the thread, so it would be nice to have that translated too. (I can use Google Translate, but fluent people are much better for the finer details, obviously.) PS - I'm pretty sure we don't have any Italians at Theoryland. Far less common than Swedes. PPS - For those who don't know, this is for the new interview database which should be up by the end of the year.

With Lews Therin's full return to the world, would love to get him talking about the AOL. Especially the War of Power and the Attack on Shayol Ghul. Why were the Forsaken there? Was it the DO trying to stop the Hundred Companions?? What happened that day?? What did he learn of the Bore and sealing it from the first time?? Clearly we will get some idea as this Age's attack on Shayol Ghul occurs.. Strategy/conversation assumingly will come out... But a full blown flashback to that day in the AOL would be awesome!! Hell even if that were the prologue alone, would be amazing. What resistence occurred? Only 68 companions survived. Did the DO communicate directly with LTT …

If this has already been discussed, someone point me in the direction of the topic, cause I missed it. Anyway, we haven't seen or heard from Loyal Loial since the end of TGS when he was discussing the Book of Translation with those other Ogier (been a couple of months. details might be off.) Where is he? I remember getting the distinct impression he was going to try to talk the Ogier into fighting alongside everyone instead of running away into the other world teh Book would take them to.

Has anyone ever looked into the Aiel that attack the one Aes Sedai(i can't remember her name off the top of my head) in Camemlyn, that cause them to try and teach Rand a lesson, that cause Rand to go to Cairien, that leads to him being imprisoned?

It seems to me that with Elayne's recklessness in ToM she could very well be an unsuspected death in aMoL. In Aviendha's vision in the glass pillars, Elayne is no longer on the throne. If only one generation passes between the last two visions then that means in two generations Elayne will no longer be Queen of Andor. Elayne is a strong channeler and leader, who if released from the Oath Rod or not should rule for at least two generations. There is also no mention of Elayne or Aviendha, even though they are only grandparents at this time. It is obvious why there is no mention of Rand, but the absence of any of the main characters to provide council besides clan chiefs is …

Hi I'm new the forum and want to say I love your topics. I just finished reading ToM this past Friday. I started reading the Wheel of Time series last November and I couldn't put books down. I have many random thoughts and maybe some possible endings. I would love to read what you think. 1) When I started reading these books and when the Seanchan started arriving to conquer Artur's old lands I thought that Rand, Aiel, and the other nations would have settled this before going to the Last Battle. Whether they fought them out of their land or made peace with them or something. So I think this will be resolved after the Last Battle like in the 2nd half of the aMoL …

And I will personally ban anyone who can't bring themselves to be respectful. Darrell was a warm and caring human being, who loved his wife and children and worked hard to fulfill his contracts even when he was sick. I am in complete and utter shock over this. http://www.tor.com/blogs/2011/12/darrell-k-sweet-1934-2011

Morridin doesn't want Rand to die, because if he did, then like all other Heroes of the Horn, he would go to TAR and he would have access to all of his souls memories from all of his former lives.(Birgitte could remember all her past lives right?) If he doesn't die, he only gets LTT's memories and LTT failed to seal the bore(He could only patch it). But if he died, then he would remember how he did it the last time around, and just do that again. I think thats what the Finns meant by "To live you must Die."

If you look at the series as a whole i think it's safe to say RJ has missed it a trick of making the wheel of time surpass almost every single fantasy series out there. Where he went wrong was not the books but the chronology itself. The first books should have been the age of legends trilogy. The rise and fall of the tamyrlin. I would give my left nut for it. How he became an Aes sedai. His relationship with merin. His interaction with barid bel maidar and tel janin as his former buddies. The events that surrounded the drilling of the bore. The declaring of ishy for the DO in the hall of servants itself in front of the aes sedai. How semi escaped her captors. The war…

I'm very interested in other people's opinions of him. Myself, I'm inclined to say he's the prophesied broken wolf, and that he's probably been converted by the 13/13 game. Because we all know there's sunshine, lolipops and rainbows under the dark storm clouds and probable madness caused by years of tainted saidin. GO!

So Luckers had posted a theory about the unseen watchers in Tel'aran'rhiod as being the Big Unnoticed Thing. This might not have ended up being the case, but it still begs the question about what they are. I have a theory which probably has been put forward before. It's a little anticlimactic, but it makes sense. They're the Heroes of the Horn keeping an eye on things in T'A'R. Birgitte kept up on what was going on in T'A'R, I'm sure there aren't many people who are aware they're in there, so someone showing up multiple times with some knowledge of the way the World of Dreams works would probably get the attention of the Heroes. Also, I noticed, a lot of ti…

Just finished rereading ToM and in the last chapter, when Thom says he will be Moraianes Warder, he points out that Tuon could learn to channel if she wanted too and thus could bond Mat. Wouldn't that be the greatest jokes of all on Mat? After everything he has done to keep free from influence of the OP, he is bonded a warder in the end? And if Tuon wanted it, I bet she would get her way sooner lr later.

We are very close to finishing the new interview database, and I really think we'll have it done by the end of the year. Marie Curie and I both have finals next week, and by then all that will be left is the overhaul, which isn't as much work as it sounds like (basically reviewing every entry). Anyway, we have been finding some 'new' old reports, and we found this old report in Swedish: http://web.archive.o...tan_om_sol.html We already have two reports on that Con in English, but this is a different one. Is there anyone here who could translate it from Swedish to English? I could do it with Google Translate and a dictionary, but I think it would take a lot longer!…

I was listening to The Gathering Storm on Audiobook while falling asleep last night and I started wondering about what Egwene could do to fortify the tower against further Seanchan raids/invasions and the Dark Ones forces. I suddenly got the idea ... if they could turn that whole chain into cuendiar why not the whole tower? Thoughts?

I was doing a reread of the series and in the Great Hunt...Loial keeps saying that only the most powerful of the channelers in the AoL could use the stones. We know Rand can use it so can Lanfear. Who else is strong enough to use them? It cannot be very rare because the Seachan used them to go get their pet animals of war right?

Hi, I thought it would be fun to write your own ending to the series. Mine is a bit long, and I got a bit hasty, but it works well I think. btw, did you ever notice that the whole the north and east must be as one, and the west and south must be as one, is the yingyang? My ending for wheel of time. Hordes. Hordes and legions of trollocs. There numbers were only dwarfed by the ravens in the sky. Black on black, a never ending vision of black. Rand forced himself to breath normally, but there was no hiding his hesitation. “heads we win, tails we lose” Mat, flips a coin. As it reachs the zenth of its height, it fades a little, that had been happening to oft…

Ok, so I was perusing Terez's compilation of RJ/Sanderson interviews, and came across this: Brandon on Twitter - 8 January 2011 Much has been made of the blue flash when Thom fights the Fade. I can't say what it was, but it's not what most seem to think. Ok, so I always thought that "what most people seem to think" was that Thom had knives that were Power wrought. In fact, according to Encyclopedia WoT, later versions of The Eye of the World were edited to change a line that Thom says after escaping Shadar Logoth and using throwing knives to stop Trollocs. The original line (which is the one that appears in my copy of EotW) showed Thom muttering about losing "h…

OK, so in TPOD when Logain bonded Toveine, am I the only reader who thought the "extra bit" was bringing Toveine to um, certain, emotional/physical "heights"? Trying to be PG-13 here. If so, this seems suspiciously like what Semirhage did to Cabriana Mecandes' Warder, when she stimulated his pleasure receptors as well as the pain receptors. Could Logain have used a form of Compulsion on Toveine when he set the Bond? If so, do you think this makes him a bad guy?
