I don't recall seeing an example of it so far,but here's a ? Does the wearing of a Seanchan ter'angreal nullify the three oaths taken by the Aes Sedai? It would seem to me that those Aes Sedai taken captive would not be able to kill on command due to the oaths. Something to ponder.

  2. I remember at the beginning of this book, particularly in The Great Hunt, it was mentioned that human civilization was collapsing. Kingdoms failed and were over taken by forests, their names forgotten. Meanwhile the human race dwindled. This makes me wonder, are the Dark Friends more than just a social club that meets in secret on Saturday Nights, or do they actively work to undermine human civilization? Could the reason that the human race is in such a bad spot right now be because Dark Friends really are running as rampant as the White Cloaks claim?

First of all, I didn't know where to post this thread & this part of the forum seemed to be them most appropriate. If I posted it in the wrong forum, I apologise. Theere are 2 questions which have been bothering me for quite a while & I hope you can help me with them. The 1st question is probably the easiest to answer and probably won't lead to a discussion. The 2nd question might lead to a discussion, but I'm not sure about that one either. 1. If someone visiting his/her good friends the Eelfin wished to remember all of his/her previous lives, while still staying aware what his or her current life is & being able to act accordingly, wouldn't it br…

Okay, so I just finished me reread of tPoD. Why did "Dashiva" decide to try and assasinate Rand suddenly? The DO wanted the Dragon alive. Is it possible that "Dashiva" lost it out of anger (and maybe no small amount of self-preservation) due to Rand himself losing it with Calandor against the Seanchan?

Now that I have seen which book most people think is under-rated (Winter's Heart followed by The Path of Daggers), I would like to know which book people think is the most over-rated. I am going to go for Lord of Chaos (I don't expect many others too), I think it's a great book just not quite as good as most people rate it. I generally see it come in around second to The Shadow Rising. I think people rate it a little higher than it deserves because it had such an epic ending. The ending sticks in your head when you finish the book so can unduly influence your perception of a book. On my first read through I thought LoC was one of the best books but on re-reads I reali…

Each book has had interesting names with meanings that relate to what is occurring. so what does "A Memory of Light" mean. My thoughts are that since we haven't really seen the 13x13 thing happen, Rand will be turned forcefully to the dark side, and the book, including the last battle will include him coming back to the light, hence the name "A Memory of Light." I have nothing to really back this up, it is just idle speculation, what are your thoughts?

I rly want both of them to die lol. ;D Perrin pisses me off so much, like how he thinks the sisters should be treated better under Rand... You live in a box for like a few weeks. also he does everything either for faile or him, like giving the Seachan over 200 wise ones to leash, if rand somehow doesn't get the deal that is VERY bad for him. He dosen't care what happens to the world as long as Faile is okay, o wait if he dosen't help Rand Faile dies. Egwene i just hate here, she thinks she knows everything and she is like 18. Her view towards Rand and stuff is stupid. Sooo much i could tell you why i hate her. Who eles hopes they Die ^^?

Quite a simple question: where are the Damona Mountains. That's the mountain range Mat has to cross at the end of KoD. According to the encyclopaedia (and logic), it's on the border between Murandy and Altara, but that border is made up by the Manetherendrelle, which is already a very big river at that location, which I cannot see at the same location as an uncrossable mountain chain. Is there any example of a similar place in reality, or is this a (big) mistake by RJ?

  9. I haven't seen any discussion on this and I unfortunately cannot reference the page number as I am at work. However, There hasn't been any discussion on who the channelers were at Maradon fighting with the Shadow. THe ashaman (Cannot remember his name) stated he felt weaving so obviously it was male channelers. Possibly with Female as well. Any ideas? I would guess it was the renegade Ashaman but any interesting theories out there?

    1) Do we know of any except Rand, Perrin, Mat and Arthur Hawkwing? 2) We know that Rand is the strongest but do you think that Mat or Perrin is stronger that Arthur Hawkwing was? 3) Is there a difference in ta'veren strenght between Mat and Perrin? Who is the strongest?

  11. Wasn't the WT operating under the belief that the male half of the true source was tainted at that point? I think they were justified in trying to take out the BT. That still means they did it in a stupid way, mind. The obvious thing would be to send spies and warders to infiltrate the BT and see if they had systems in place to kill those who were going mad and to see how hard it would be to take down. But then, most people in the series act like morons.

  12. *edit* Topic should have been Scenes you would have liked to see *even* if unnecessary. But I can't see how to edit the topic title now that I have created. I am such a klutz sometimes:) Here, I am just wondering what are some scenes people would have liked to read even if unimportant/unnecessary to storyline but would have just been fun to read. Some I can think of: Elayne's testing Messana's POV during the cleansing What happened with Elza's warder after her death - preferably his capture and questioning Silvania's POV upon being raised to Keeper

We are constantly told that ta´veren is the Wheel weaving some lifethreads around that person for a special purpose. The Creator created the world and wheel and then said he would not take any part in it and left. The Dark One is a real influence, trying to break the Wheel and increase his influence on the world. But I don´t understand... if the Creator isn´t taking part, then whose will is it that the ta´veren is spun out to change things? Is it the Creator through the Wheel and Pattern. Or does the Wheel have it´s own will.. and can that will be independent to the Dark One and the Creator? What does the Wheel want... to restore balance? How is that possible when the…

As we know, before Saidin was tainted there were male Aes Sedai. So my question is, did they have their own colored ajahs? Or am I getting confused with dates and Tar Valon and the White Tower weren't even created yet?

  15. After finishing ToM, I'm left wondering if the two are related somehow. It is not really known where the world of the Aelfinn/Eelfinn is, but the ways in which the tower manipulates reality seems similar to TAR. There is also the same feeling of being watched by unseen eyes. So, is it possible the unseen eyes in TAR are the Aelfinn and Eelfinn? If they feed on people's memories and feelings--especially fear--what better place to grab a snack than watching someone's nightmares and dreams? Is their world the World of Dreams? it makes me wonder if Perrin had gone into the Tower with the others, if he would have been able to manipulate reality while they were there a…

  17. Since I'm at work still, I will be brief in this opening post. I'll go into some of the details behind my reasoning later on when I get some free time. The question is simple: In your opinion, where does WoT fall on the "All Time" list for this genre? And where does RJ fall as an author on this list? It is my opinion that the WoT belongs at the top of the list, and RJ likewise belongs at the top of the list of authors. My reasoning is simple: the quality of the story and of the writing seem vastly superior to me. Look at the use of foreshadowing through the series, look at the use of small subplots and small characters. The world is well developed, the char…

  19. So who thinks that we haven't seen the last of the little red witch, the usurper, the prognosticator, the bringer of chaos ELAIDA? I have a feeling we'll see her again in some sort of climatic role in the end. ALSO Red Ajaha? Prevent the breaking? What will their new purpose be now that saidan is cleansed. Lets give them something to do other than hate men and find new pillow 'friends' lol.

Ok everyone, I haven't seen this theory anywhere before, and I came up with it all by myself (I think). What if we had an aes Sedai bond an ashaman, followed by that same ashaman bonding the aes Sedai that bonded him? (in other words a two way bond). I remember reading earlier in the series (cant remember where) that just before the breaking, men and women could work together to enhance their power. Now this could just be by linking, but what if they bound each other? Of course, the reason for it being forgotten would be that all the men went mad so it couldn't be used anymore. What I think would be really awesome is that the AS can use saidan and the AM can use saidar. H…

So after rereading number 13 for the third time I have to ask everyone; at which stage was Rand al'Thor the most compelling for you? When did you find the character at his most compelling or easiest to relate to? For me I have to admit that I actually preferred Rand somewhere between when he started to 'harden' himself and after he snapped with his near murder of Min; the idea that the main character might abandon the traditional characterisation of what a 'hero' is was actually quite impressive to me and I found his attitude there easiest to relate to - being told that he is fated to die for all these people who hate or fear him (and what he represents, either as a m…

Which Aes Sedai characters do you like best, and why? My favorite has always been Moiraine and probably always will be. She was "the" original Aes Sedai for the series, the one who first introduced not only the characters from the Two Rivers but also the readers to the ways of the Aes Sedai. She was a great mentor, the Gandalf of the series, and her "death" in the arch and the letters she wrote added great characterization and bravery to her. I do look forward to seeing what happens at the Tower of Ghenjei. I also greatly admire Cadsuane. She's stubborn, intelligent, and someone even the other Aes Sedai just refer to as "that" woman. She has a part to play in Rand…

  23. Fain is said to have sidestepped the pattern. He is a wild card who is gunning for Rand. Now at the end of this series it is supposed to go either one of two ways. Either the Dark One wins and everything is unmade or the Pattern wins and everything is reset for yet another Last Battle. Could Fain possibly put an end to this? Could neither the Pattern nor the Dark One win at the end of Tarmon Gaiden but instead, because Fain steps in and mucks everything up, we get an unwritten future at the end of this book and the possibility for the world to evolve without another Collapse and Last Battle being the inevitable future of the world? Or is even Fain just a puppet in the Pat…

  24. ToM Ch57 'A Rabbit for Supper': coupled with the insights from Fortuona in ToM Ch47 A Teaching Chamber Sorry for the heavy quoting from the text, but I have just finished a reread of ToM and think that the two parts reveal an event that is certain to happen. Take Mat's words, everytime he says he will never do something obviously it happens so i think we can take it as read that he will be bonded to Tuon, it then comes down to a matter of when. During AMOL or after the fact, perhaps this is something foreshadowed for the outriggers. I take it from the text though that this is a defacto event to come. However due to the absolute groundshift we are see…

  25. so i am on crossroads of twilight one of the more boring books i think. and every time i read it i think of the windfinder talan. where do you think she was taken to by merrilee do you think merriliee is black or just full of good intentions if she is black ya thinkg she took talan to convert her to the dark side or is she going to try to get her to the tower wich isnt all that far from caemlyn just something ive always wondered about cause we never find out by the end of tom do you think they will pop back up in amol just curious about it

Hello clever Balefirexperts! Help me understand the bloody Balefire weave. I´ve never understood how burning a piece of a thread inpacts time. Say I have a weave, and I burn of a a thread, or a piece of a thread... wouldn´t the future me remember a gap cause there is a hole in the weave... why would you just go "back in time?" And while we are at it, in CoS I think, in that scene just before Nyn is almost hit by the balefire from Moggy (when she almost drowned) I remember reading something along these lines: From c 30 p 537, the first cup: Pigeons! She nearly spewed the contents of her stomach across the roof. A glance at the river made her snarl. Because she had …

It has been a long while since I read the book, but I have vague memories of Grandael manipulating Sammael into a more aggressive stance against Rand, provoking their confrontation. Hi! Long time sporadic lurker first time poster here :) I have a theory I've been thinking about and I'd like to introduce you to it so you can poke a hole in it or help me refine it. It's not a theory that necessarily has alot of backing in the books. More of a theory that if true would knit it all together very well. To me the Wheel of Time saga has always been very much about duality and balance. Good vs evil, masculine vs feminine, etc. It has also been peculiar to me how the creator has been so completely absent from the world, while his "counterpart" the dark one has been very much involved. So I pose the following: What if the creator was all there was and …
