This is a purely hypothetical question using the boundaries that we know of within the world of the story. We know that balefire burns you out of the pattern. The stronger the balefire the further back in time your pattern is erased. Would it have been possible for Rand to use the Choedan Kal and channel that through the bar that was stolen by the Black Ajah that created balefire? If so could he have created strong enough balefire to use on Lanfear so that she was burned out of the pattern before she created the bore that breached the prison of the DO thus averting the breaking of the world?

Ok people, here's something I dont think I've seen on the boards before, if it has come up, too bad, here it is again. The senerio is; You've been given two first class return tickets to anywhere in the world and you get to choose one of the characters from WoT to go with you. They can be any character you want, main or minor. Who would you choose to go with you, and where whould you go? An obvious example is taking Mat to Los Vegas (I mean, come on, Show girls, free booze and the gambling, it's his dream land! and you'd get seriously rich before being thrown out for cheating) so here's mine. I'd take Moiraine to Venice. Why? Well, aside from really wa…

Ok, here I am interested in which book you think is the most under-rated in the series by the general fandom. I don't expect to see Lord of Chaos or The Shadown Rising score highly since they are both so highly rated that they can't really be regarded as under-rated - but you may beg to differ and if so go for it just explain your rationale. I am going for The Fires of Heavan. I think this is a great book with many epic scenes eg. the battle of Cairhien, Lanfear/Moiraine at docks, Rand's fight with Rahvin. The one draw-back to this book is the whole stupid wondergirl circus sideshow. If it weren't for that I think it would in general be rated higher. But as it is I th…

We know for the Warders they get the following benefits: Faster Healing, Better Stamina, etc... There are the mutual benefits of being able to know how one is feeling and know where each other are. What about the Aes Sedai/Ashaman? What exclusive benefits do they get? we know they can compulse the bondee to do whatever they want - we have seen this. But it has been hinted at, but can the Aes sedai drain the life of the Warder and effectively kill them in order to get more stamina to continue on? If so, do you think we will see this in the last book?

in the defence of Maradon, when the Trollocs were breaking through, everyone was setting up for defense, but then suddenly a horn was blown in the signal for retreat, while others were not. this almost got everyone killed. so what do you think happened? a darkfriend sacrificing himself for the cause or just a hornblower who got scared?

I'm not sure if this has been touched on yet anywhere, but is it possible that the two Rand trusts to use Callandor with him will end up being Moghedien and Cyndane? And obviously at that stage he would be one with Moridin somehow and he would trust them because he's holding their mindtraps. I don't remember if anywhere specifically says that one of the two in his link will be Nynaeve or if it's just assumed because he's asked her. This might fit the black onyx hand holding Callandor viewing. I was just bored glancing over some WoT stuff and the thought suddenly came to me so I thought I'd shoot it out here for everyone to dissect.

Throughout the books we've associated "Ta'veren" with the good guys: Rand, Mat, & Perrin. Heck, even historically Ta'veren are looked upon as inherently "good." Artur Hawkwing, until he went flaming bonkers at the end and declared war on the White Tower, was considered a great man and a force for good: he united the nations practically created civilization as the Westlanders know it today. Still, we know that the Pattern is neither "good" nor "evil" and Ta'veren are spun out by the Wheel in an effort correct imbalances or "snags" in the Pattern. So, can't this mean that there are Ta'veren out there who are "evil" by a layman's definition? Look at Ishamael…

  8. Am I the only one who thinks that those 5000 farmers, who look as if they don't belong, are in fact darkfriends, dreadlords and asha'man trained by Taim? If you think they're something else, would you like to share your idea? 5000 normal darkfriend farmers, most of whom don't even have a sword, probably aren't going to do much damage to the forces gathered there. I also doubt that 5000 untrained farmers are going to be of much help to the gathered forces, even if they serve the light, and to mention them just to be able to describe how 5000 farmers are slaughtered, ripped to pieces, eaten alive, etc. in the next book would be a bit weird.

When Loial, Hurin, and Rand go to the mirror world in TGH and they find that Artur Hawkwings memorial Hawk statue has been replaced by a Trolloc memorial with a raven, Rand sees some strange black streaks across the sky. Any ideas about what that was? Airplanes? Why would it be airplanes in a world were Randland had been overrun by trollocks?

  10. We all know that there is a link between Rand and Moridin. It was created when their balefire colided. Balefire, as we all know, burns the person or object it strikes from the very pattern. Rand and Moridin struck each other, so by the nature of balefire, neither should exist. However, at the same time, both should exist since the balefire would have burned both of them out and neither would have existed to use the balefire in the first place. To correct this distortion in the pattern, Rand and Moridin's threads were woven together to create one person. I beleive that when Rand fights moridin, he will destroy part of his being. To live (after the last battle) Rand …

  13. Lanfear mentions(in tSR) two ter'angreal stronger than Callandor that men can use. One is the one that Rand used with Nynaive to cleanse Saiden. Has the second been revealed? I am on maybe my tenth reread of the series, one good thing about a faulty memory is the ability to find things in rereads that I had clearly forgotten or never really noticed. So I ask the WoT scholars here if they can answer this for me?

I don't think ive ever read a series by an author that put so much effort into planning and creating there world (being a long time fantasy reader). The amount of foreshadowing and clues to future encounters make the books alot like a puzzle, reading the great hunt today i noticed moraines argument with Lan where she makes a reference into her getting thrown into a pond that obviously refers to what happened in new spring when first meeting Lan. Does anyone know how much Robert actually planned? i know at the start it was suppose to be a trilogy, but the amount of information revealed throughout seems though he always planned for as many books as their is. Did he ever com…

do you think Moridin is aware of the link between him and Rand? Well, we know he's aware but do you think he knows the full effect of what may happen? He knows that the injury of Rands hand has hurt his own so we know he knew about that, yet, Rand walks right into his dream in TGS and he was caught a little off guard. What is your guys opinion?

  16. How many romantic subplots are there in this series? I seemed to have lost count. Anyway, I am constantly bothered by the romantic subplots in the entire Wheel of Time series. Not only are most of them filler, some don't even make sense at all. The worst example of this is (GET READY FOR IT).....Lan and Nynaeve. Ever since The Eye of the World, I was always baffled by this awkward relationship between Wisdom and Warder. The lack of foreshadowing, the opposite personalities, the odd conversations between the two. It just doesn't make sense to me. It really frustrates me that this romance just comes out of nowhere.

  17. Sorilea teaches Cadsuane traveling even though she isn't powerful enough to make the weave work. She shows her the weave and she can learn it even though she couldn't make it work herself. Is this part of Asmodean holding out on Rand? He still considered himself a Chosen. Or is this an error on RJ's part?

So, I don't have a ton of time to post, so I didn't know about this. Is there really a gay man in TOM? We all know there are lesbians pretty much everywhere in the series, but I've never seen nary a mention of a gay guy, I could be confused of course. It's possible it just flew over my head, but then the lesbians didn't, so what's going on? (Homo-paranoid disclaimer, I am not gay) But it would be cool to have an overt, unapologetic, non-stereotypical, extremely overt gay man who kicks ass - just like the gay women in this series. Frankly, I've read TOM a couple times now, and had no idea that one of the guys is supposed to be gay. Am I missing something, am I wron…

In Towers of Midnight Tam is in two places at the same time. In chapter 2 he is still with Perrin, but in chapter 13 he is at the Stone of Tear when Rand arrives. When Rand is introducing Tam to Min, Tam does say,"it's been three days, I've already met her". I suppose one of the Ashman could have gated him there, but what reason would Tam have for going to Tear? Is this a mistake or is one an imposter perhaps?

  21. In my first read-through of the WoT series (until KoD) my favourite character was Egwene (yes, I know...*shock*). In my defence I was only 11 years old and I thought she was the most relatable character. So, anyway, who was yours? And why? Note: It must be on and/or throughout your very first read-through and not after you've had a chance to reflect.

  22. Since Shaidar Haran has a sense of humour then the DO should to. Thats kind of interesting since it was it was laughter that made Rand into New Light Rand. And the RJ terangreal that Elyane finds in TPOD is also laughing.

Ive read that there is a few different theories about the geography of Randland. Most seem to think that the westlands is Europe, Shara Asia and Seanchen America. Has RJ or BS ever been asked about this? If RJ built the geography of Randland based on our geography today? And has anyone asked them what happened to Africa during the breaking?=)

While doing my re-read, I can't help but think that Alanna having bonded Rand earlier in the books won't have more significance before the end. I was wondering if anyone has any theories about why the bonding ever happened, as it would seem unlikely RJ would just have thrown it in there for no major reason...perhaps the wheel wove this in the pattern for a higher purpose? AND if for a reason, is the reason in helping the light or the dark side?

After thinking about the Aiel's future the only thing that I can think of that would make sense is for them to go back to the way of the leaf. They already can follow it for a year and a day and it is their past. I just think that there is no future for them in the long run unless they change and the only change that makes sense is for them to "reinvent" themselves and begin the new people of complete peace. Don't get me wrong, I love them more than any other people by far and I think that they are complete badass all around but at the end they will be a dieing bread in the fast changing future considering Seanchen and Avi's vision. Plus, what can be more brave than to go…

In the Great Hunt, we saw first hand that naming the DO has tangible negative effects. It begs to ask then, if no one names the DO, or almost no one, why has his name not been lost? Can it be written safely? Is it okay to whisper? How can something never said be remembered?

  30. What evidence do we have that the Dark One is in fact the “Lord of the Grave”? That is, what evidence do we have that he has access to the souls of all the dead? We know that he is able to access the souls of Darkfriends, at least during a small window after death. He has done so with the Forsaken, at least. And it is possible that he did so with the Darkfriend merchant in The Eye of the World, whose name I’ve forgotten. But what evidence do we have that he can do the same to someone who has not sworn over to the Dark One? Ishamael shows Rand an image of Kari al’Thor, but we have been given no reason to think that this represented reality, since if I remember correctly it…
