Hey I am new here so sorry if this belongs in another place, but...has there been much discussion on if Ilyena will or has been reborn and if so who she might be and what that will mean for Rands other three women?

One of the Prophecies says that the "Three shall become One." It is thought that this refers to Rand having to link with two women to use Callandor, but what if it in fact refers to the three armies (Rand's, Mat's, and Perrins) coming together at the Last Battle? Or to possibly signal the actual beginning of Tarmon' gaidon?

  3. Started by DocBean,

I've always wondered about the Three on a Boat Viewing. I never understood why they were on a boat, until now. Nicola's Viewing/Foretelling LoC,Ch14 - "The lion sword, the dedicated spear, she who sees beyond. Three on the boat, and he who is dead yet lives. The great battle done, but the world not done with battle. The land divided by the return, and the guardians balance the servants. The future teeters on the edge of a blade." Maybe I'm a little slow, but it finally hit me. I always pictured the three girls staring down over Rand on a funeral boat, before sending it off ablaze. Now I get what the viewing was about. It wasn't the three girls staring dow…

Didn't see this anywhere else so here I go. How does balefire interact with other weaves? The reason i ask is because while rereading ToM I noticed that the balefire seemed to hit Graendel's gateway. "A blinding light rose behind her. She struggled to dismiss the gateway, and caught one glimpse of the horrified Aran'gar before everything behind was consumed beautiful pure whiteness. The gateway vanished, leaving Graendal in darkness." Shouldn't balefire have erased her gateway, making it so that she never traveled in the first place and hence would have been balefired herself?

WOT fanatics please help!!! A number of years ago I was browsing through a book store and happened up on a wheel of time book. This book had dungeons and dragons type attributes for all of the boys and a few other notables as well (fades etc.) and looked to be a WOT themed D&D adventure. I foolishly did not purchace that book. I decided to rectify my atrocious decision a few weeks ago and ordered "Prophecies of the Dragon" online, which appeared to be the book I was interested in. I just got it... it does not contain the attributes that I remembered reading back in the day (or maybe I'm just not clever enough to find it). That being said it still looks li…

Considering the book was named after them and they get a nod in the glossary, I was pretty disappointed/surprised when they made absolutely no appearance in the book. Given, it's a pretty cool title, but usually the titles (minus crappy TGS) mean something to the plot. ToM didn't even hardly deal with the Seanchan on a point-of-view basis, only a chapter or two totally devoted to them and that plot line. Anyone else disappointed or just me?

  7. This is not a thread for requesting spoilers, it is a thread for people have read the book to ask simple questions about it.

  8. I just finished Winter's Heart today. The ending with the Choedan Kal was phenomenal. It was the first time we get so many of the Forsaken striking at Rand at once. It also revealed a lot. Previously, I had guessed Lanfear was either Moridin (Naeblis) or Cyndane. I was therefore unsurprised when the chapter revealed she was Cyndane. I also knew Aran'gar was Balthamael. Now I have one question concerning Osan'gar. In his appearance in the chapter, he claims to be the creator of the Trollocs and, by extent, the Mydraul. Now, I can't recall exactly, but wasn't Ishamael the creator of the Trollocs? I could have sworn one of the first two or three books mentioned that it was h…

So way back in The Great Hunt, Hawkwing says to Hurin after the Horn of Valere is sounded that sometimes new heros are added to their numbers. Anybody think there could be a chance we get to see Noal aka Jain Farstrider, when next the Horn is sounded? Would his being touched by the Shadow at some point or dying in the Finnland make a difference? Granted we don't actually see him die but I think it is likely. What about Hopper, could a Wolf be tied to the Horn? I doubt that but eh, maybe. Maybe the Horn has already served its purpose and won't be sounded again. We know Mat plans to retrieve it but there are no guarantees.

  11. I have a lot of questions about the use of the Portal stone in TGH, one is that verin says "A surge in the one power while you were wielding it" or something like that, and I don't know how to interpret that, is it just that Rand is that powerful, or is it his proximity to the male chodan Khal, was he able to tap it at a distance? But mostly it's about the possible futures. when verin says, "I never thought I. . ." and cuts off. Was Verins experience with that transportation what made her come clean? It's kinda clear that Ingtar decided to sheath the sword for good because of what he experienced during the use of the portal stone, but there was also a moment when mat…

Did we ever figure out what this was? I was hoping it was Rand being resurrected through T'A'R like Brigitte. or All the "Bubbles of Evil" are actually "Bubbles of the Wheel lining things up the way they need to be to make everything work out just right." doesn't have quite the same flow as Bubble of Evil, but I think it's more fitting. Did Towers of Midnight explain what Brandon's B.U.T. was? or has it been explained since I've been away? (just finished the book, been in hiding since it came out)

If Morgase took control of Andor after a succession war, then she was never the Daughter-heir, so she should never have gone to the tower. She can't have gone after she gained control of Andor as she would have been queen then. But she also can't have gone before then as there was another queen and if she went during the succession war then she would never have won the thrown. I'm confused. Doing a re-read and I am sure it is caught later on in the series, maybe when Faile and Morgase and co get kidnapped, but it is sorta bugging me right now. Cheers.

So. Graendal met with Moridin and for a brief moment Moridin cocked his head as if listening to something. Graendal assumed it was direct communication from the Dark One. What do YOU think was going on? Cast your vote! Let your voice be heard! (no pun intended) Personally I think it was "Lews Therin" as in the construct. I think Rand passed it on to Moridin during VoG. This would be the second time Graendal has observed Moridin show Rand qualities, although she didnt make the connection this time. But the way Moridin cocked his head, to me, looked a heck of a lot like what Rand used to do back in the day, and add to that the fact that Graendal ASSUMED it was direc…

Hello everyone, I've a fan of WOT for years and have re-read the books many times. I've also been an occasional poster here a Dragonmount for a long time. I've read many threads on various aspects of Randland, especially the ones dealing with the prophecies and I have a question.. Where did the Karathenon (SP?)CYcle, the Aiel phophecies dealing with the Caracarn, the Sea folk propheicies and the Jendar prophecies originate? What I mean is when and where did they come into being. The only direct reference I can recall in in The Shadow Rising when Jonai takes his leave. In that instance what is said clearly implies that the Aes Sedia with the foretelling o…

In TEoTW, when Lan mentions to Moiraine something about the false dragon and first put a name to him, Lan named Logain and Rand seemed to think that in the way Lan mentioned him, that the warder knew Logain personally, and thought on the issue for a bit. I know with TEoTW there are differences from later books such as the way we see healing done and other small things, but I can't recall any further mention of this in the books. Could this possibly be something to do with Logain's absence and Lan fighting at Tarwin's Gap upcoming in the next book or something else perhaps? It struck me as funny hearing it as I listened to the book and had to even rewind it. RJ doesn't…

As far as the three become one prophecy, we could be looking at a combination of some form of Min, Aviendha and Elayne. It is mentioned in the gathering storm referring to LT "If I live again, then she might as well!" Maybe somehow Ileyna is alive in the three loves of RA'T and somehow become combined through the shared bond. Half baked and not very fleshed out theory, and may already have been discussed and if so I apologize. I am new to these forums although a reader of The Wheel of Time books since 1990.

  19. Here this very famous quote from tEotW that has been debated to death: We have debated over this for something close to 20 years now. But there's one sentence that seems a even more obscure to me: I have a picture in my mind of steps drawn out of smoke/dust/whatever that create some sort of tunnel through the clouds around Rand that that stairs go up until you can't see them anymore. What is the purpose of those stairs ? are they Creator made ? What if Rand had taken the opportunity to climb them (or try to climb them) ? I don't see that fiiting with the capital words (attributed by most to the Creator itself). Any thoughts ?

As Everyone is leaving Malkier near the end of TeoTW. there is a line, (it's imperfect.) "Moiraine openened her eyes, and started down the hill. "For me to remove the last vestige of what I did last night. The residues would have faded on their own within a day, but I will not take any risk I can avoid now, we are took close, and the shadow is too strong here." Also notice that in this passage, the "indicators" (I like pets, so I use that term) for a woman sensing a woman channeling are rubbing arms and shivvering, and a Man sensing channeling is sweating and a headache, but I imagine that has been covered, but the unweaving a weave is supposedly "impossible." yet M…

I've been reading this series of books, and am up to Ch. 29 in tGS. Chapter 28 is quite possibly one of the most chilling and scary pieces of writing I've ever read. I honestly felt nervous reading it, as if someone was going to appear out of nowhere and attempt to kill me. Moments like that, when books elicit such an emotional response from you, are the reason I read books to begin with. I'm not usually emotional, but I nearly cried when Thom saved Mat and Rand in tEOtW, and when Ingtar redeemed himself, and I did cry when Moiraine "died" sacrificing herself to kill Lanfear. There have been moments when I've felt joy, anger, and excitement all through…

  22. During Perrin's perspective when he goes to the dragonmount, he sees rand there in TAR, but rand is still awake. So rand shouldn't have been able to be in the dream, even if faintly. What affect did being in the dream world have on Rand during that moment? Hopper is able to show memories of AoL, Birgitte has all the knowledge of her previous lives while in TAR. Could it be that somehow Rand's soul was able to see back into his memories of his past lives because part of him was in the dream world?

When the trollocs are attacking and the ash'aman says that only a little bit of the power is being used I had a sinking feeling. Could it have been Androl transporting the Trollocs and fades? He is very weak but can make crazy gateways...ha he been turned? Does this match up with timelines?? Just a thought

In the early books, prologues and vignettes of minor characters notwithstanding, most chapters contained a single point of view, or, perhaps two within the same setting. In more recent books, however, we start to see completely unrelated scenes contained within the same chapter. This first jumped out at me in KoD, Attending Elaida; the chapter begins with a PoV from Tarna yet ends with the continuation of Mat's story arc. If such a thing happened once, I'd call it an editorial oversight, but TGS and ToM routinely mix different plot arcs within the same chapter. At the same time we also see the reality of Randland start to come apart at the seams--ghosts, shifting c…

EDIT: After seeing the amount of debate and discussion on this issue in this thread, I figured it'd be nice to see at a glance what people think, hence the poll. I kept the question and answers very simple so it wouldn't be hard to decide which side you're on, to minimize the "gray area". ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ORIGINAL: As much as I love WoT and RJ, this is one of his series' major flaws, he just cannot seem to kill off a main character! -Thom fights the Fade one on one, tackling it and all he gets is a bad knee! -M…

I know many of you won't find this the least bit interesting, since you don't care for Elayne in the slightest. Still, I got the same feeling from her ToM PoV's that I did about Mat's performance in TGS. I'm not sure whether I'm simply imagining things, or perhaps RJ planned for her coronation to affect her in some way. It can also be that Brandon found it hard to write her character (he didn't have to do it for TGS, so perhaps he studied her less than other characters). Last but not least, I listened to ToM rather than reading it (the Audible release was easier to get a hold of), and I didn't have a chance to read her chapters yet (though I'm working through the ebook no…

  28. Min realises that she may actually be a hinderance to Rand's defence and not a last line of defence. She's finally accepted that the maidens, asha'man Aes Sedai and Wise Ones could actually defend Rand better than her :P Faile says that Perrin has accepted a lot of her ways and its time she actually accepted some of his 2R ways Remember when Perrin was going to his probable death at Dumai Wells and she wouldnt talk to him because he wouldnt shout at her????? - seriously could have stepped into the book and smashed her one :) Mat looks at Elayne and Moiraine and thinks what has changed about them and why is Elayne so likeable. 29. I think I liked it so much because it showed a classic situation where BOTH sides have valid points and also because it reminded me why I have always appreciated what a polarizing character Elayne is: Stubborn, snooty, foolish...but charming, sincere, kind and funny. I MAY well be reading too much into it, but I vaguely got the impression that Elayne was set to agree with Perrin and Faile all along but just needed to hear their reasons to make sure that their reasons really were sincere and valid. In other words, a queen doing her due diligence. The queen (Elayne Trakand) was right and doing exactly as she SHOULD have done. You can't just let a chunk of your realm…

After reading a post that vaguely mentioned it and pointing out some aspects, I think I have a general idea on what's going to happen at the FOM (I think of this dream in this context, mainly following TGS/TOM). So here I go... In CoT chapter 20, starting on page 596 of my paperback version it reads, "She was struggling up a narrow, rocky path along the face of a towering cliff. Clouds surrounds her, hiding the ground below and the crest above, yet she knew that the ground below and the crest above, yet she knew that both were very far away. She had to place her feet very carefully. The path was a cracked ledge barely wide enough for her to stand on with one shoul…
