This won't fit in one post, so it'll continue in the first two replies. First I've pulled out each of the things Brandon said individually. Shortlist of Brandon's Comments **Brandon** from x.x.x.100 started chat 7 minutes ago **Brandon**: We'll start in about five min or so, after some people have had time to join. **Brandon**: Hi. Brandon here. **Brandon**: Ask away. I'll answer. It will be a blast. **Brandon**: Oh, look. Howard is here too. **Brandon**: Favorite Character: Probably Perrin, most days. It's hard to say. It's the one I'm writing at the moment, usually. **Brandon**: Have I met Mr. Jordan: Saw him once at a convention. Was too chicken to go …

Hey guys, Harriet was kind enough to do an interview with me recently. Which was, you know, brilliant. Also thanks heaps to Maria Simons whose facilitated it, and has been so patient with me. Hope you guys enjoy. James: Ok, I suppose I’ll start on the job. How did you come to edit for Jim? Did it just fall into place due to your respective jobs, or was it something you had to discuss first? Harriet: It fell into place as follows: When we met I was editing my own imprint, and I gave him his first publishing contract. It was for the Fallon historical novels: The Fallon Blood, The Fallon Pride, and The Fallon Legacy. We worked on the Fallon Blood all the way…

Hey everyone, Luckers here. Most of you will have heard of Maria (The Maria from MAFO—Maria and Find Out), who along with Alan Romanczuk work for Team Jordan in making sure the continuity of the series is maintained—essentially, they’re the one who go through the 4 million words of notes to supply Brandon with the information he needs to keep the series running on path. These guys are the mechanics which keep the world running, and recently I was given a chance to get to know Maria a little better. Here is the interview; I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. Oh, and please note that Maria refers to Robert Jordan as Jim (which is his real name--James Oliver Rig…

As I am fairly new to the forums (though I've been reading since 94), I am not sure if this has ever been mentioned. However, I'll bring it up just in case. I have always believed since KoD that Rand is going to have to use Saidin and Saidar to re-create the Dark One's prison but he's going to use the TP as a buffer to that seal. Any thoughts?

"Whoever read this, if any remain to read it, weep for us who have no more tears. Pray for us who are damned alive." In real life, of course, we see and hear horrendously sad things...every day. Unfortunately, that is part of Life. It seems to me that when its seems like youre seeing more GOOD things than SAD things every day - then you are probably, thankfully, having a fairly decent life. IMO, at least. But, in Fiction...its all pretend, and, even when we are really, really immersed in a story, still, subconciously, we always know that its not Real. So, that being said, I don't know why the above quoted line seems so haunting to me. Why it resonates with me …

I'm trying to cram a Re-read of the series in before ToM. It's starting to look tight. I'm about to finish up book five. I have an atroctious memory, but I know that WoT takes a big dive for a couple books, a bit after this if I recall correctly, or maybe it was even this book. But the point is, I know for awhile it feels like nothing at all happens, all the elayne chapters with her in Andor feel pointless, as well as Perrin chasing Faile. Things like that. Would you folks recommend skipping a book or two, since I have read it before anyways. If so, which books, and what are the highlights of said books, or things I should recall before moving forward. Also, I apologi…

so Rand stabs Ishamael, right. but why does that cause the DO to lose enough power to let the Blight go quiet and later retreat a full two miles? even having his top player get a small wound shouldn't cause any reaction at all for the Great Lord, even if we were still suposed to think they were one and the same at that point. did he just feel like giving the Borderlanders a break?

So I was wondering and read that the adam basically forms a circle the same as when Aes Sedai link and form circles. I'm not a circle guru but a woman can't be forcibly removed from a circle right? What I'm getting at is, if two woman are linked or in a circle, if one or both were collared wouldn't the collar be inneffective? The collar can't form the circle to give the suldam control if a channeler's already in a circle, so if I'm right and I'm pretty sure I am, I wonder if Egwene and the Aes Sedai can realize this and use it. Obviously the simplest example would just be to let them collar whatever channeler they wanted as long as they're already in a circle it won't…

On my umpteenth readthrough, something just struck me as Odd. We are told that the age of Legends was almost completely tranquil. Harmony was everywhere, violence was unheard of and crime itself was a rartity. What surprises me a bit is the nature of channeling, saidin in particular. Saidar makes perfect sense for this age, but Saidin is a bit puzzling. As most know saidin must be dominated in order to be channeled properly. Even with the tain gone, we are told that to grasp saidin is a constant struggle of molten rock, lava, fire and generally all sorts of nastiness. It just seems that a whole bunch of male channelers like we see in the Black Tower will always create con…

Recently I've been getting into the Horus Heresy books, and it occurred to me what a good idea it was. For those who don't know, the Horus Heresy novels are a series of prequals of the Warhammer 40K world, sent in a time and place so different its barely recognisable. Would the idea work with the Age of Legends? Stories about the War of Power, things like the assault on the bore, Demandred going over to the shadow, all those stories we see bits ofin the main story but fleshed out. I think it would work, and I'd be more than eager to read them. What about you?

My few thoughts on the purpose of the Eye of the world. Moraine (in EOTW) questions whether or not the Eye was used for it's intended purpose? This begs the question what was it's intended purpose. First the Eye was a giant super-charged well of pure clean Saidin. Why does one need pure clean Saidin? Lews Therin (or the madman in Rand's head) mentions that something has to touch the dark one, and there is the general accepted theory that had women joined in the sealing of the DO's prison, Saidar would have been tainted as well. There was no successful way until Shadar Logoth came along to clean Saidin. So the only thing to filter Saidin was there own mo…

When Elida and Alvarian are talking in the prologue in CoS, there is mention of some numbers in secret. 24, 16, and 2000. And implications that this has to do with the Gentling of male channelers. Obviously some of this has to do with the post-Aiel War where Reds were gentling men on the spot (Example Thom's Nephew). I understood that to be the 24. but what of the 16, and 2000?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. I am still new and learning my way around. Please forgive me if this is the wrong place. My question is simple enough. I wanted to find some WOT art and while I found some very good pieces I noticed that unlike other great works of fantasy ie LOTR it seems the WOT has no generally agreed upon artist. John Howe and Allan Lee dedicated large portions of their life to illustrating LOTR and it shows in the work they contributed to the movie adaptation. So I wonder, and please if anyone knows tell me, is there any parallels to these two great artists in the WOT? Thanks.

so i am trying to figure out why siuan didn't move against chesmal emery. siuan knew in 979 that chesmal was black because she lied about meilyn arganyas' death. iirc she left a note for the then amyrlin telling her, but nothing came of it except chesmal claims to have caused sierin vanyus' death. That was in 984. Then in 988, siuan herself is raised to the amyrlin seat. Another 10 years go by before chesmal and her group flee the tower. so why did siuan who knew first hand that she was black ajah not do anything against her?

The first time rand channeled he healed Bela of fatigue when fleeing the Two Rivers. He suffered a sickness from touching the True Source unguided in the form of 'bout of reckless bravado with a trio of whitecloaks'. And the next incident of him channeling I can see is when he calls down lightening against Howal Gode, and he suffers a form of sickness from that too. So my question is, what was that all about on the Spray? You will all remember he goes a bit loopy and hangs on to the top of the mast nearly falling, then zip lines it down the rigging and does a tumble at the end. It seems to me that this must have happened as a direct cause of him channeling, …

I didn't really notice it during my first read of tGS because I was just so into the events that it must not have occured to me. However, I just finished my 2nd read of the book and noticed that the attack on the White Tower by the Seanchan seems awfully reminiscent of the attack on Pearl Harbor during WWII. Unfortunately I don't have my book with me today, but there was a quote by Tuon that ran along the same lines of "I think we have just awakened a sleeping giant." I was just curious if anyone else noticed this or would like to expand on it.

Alright, im doing a re-read of the series (up to 6th so far) for Towers of Midnight. Im currently on Fires of Heaven. Something has really annoyed me this time round, I am not sure if it has been discussed, and with the new DM out, i cant find out, so ill post it. Anyway, its about Lanfear. Now I know that we dont actually know where she is, but this annoyed me every time she opened a gateway, it described a room full of white and silver silk. It seems to be just a affirmation of her character, how she always wears white, and so i havent taken much notice of it before, but now it really annoys me, because it is mentioned every single time. Now I ca…

Who Killed Sierin Vayu If you believe Chesmal Emry, it was the Red Ajah, acting under her manipulations. This does fit fairly neatly with the other information we have. For instance we know that after Meilyn’s death Siuan slid a note under Sierin’s door informing her of Siuan’s suspicions that the Black Ajah had murdered her [NS; 18, A Narrow Passage]. If Sierin were to act on this note then her eye would have naturally turned to Chesmal Emry who was the Yellow who delved Meilyn, and announced her death. Presumably Sierin found some proof, or perhaps Chesmal freaked that she was even being considered. Of course this leaves us with a few questions. …

Something I've been wondering about for a while is if the three ta'veren do the Aiel first-brother ritual. Those three, aside from the ta'veren pull, are closer then most people are. In LoC when Perrin was rallying a force to rescue Rand it wasn't because the DR was kidnapped, it was his best friend in AS clutches. And when Mat moved to intercept Couladin it wasn't because Couladin was the enemy, that &$#@er was out to kill his best friend. When Rand used primative CPR to save Mat, it wasn't "I'll need Mat in the future" it was, "My best friends going to die." I think the three would respond well to the ritual if one brought it up.

So Egwene is now a sister of the White Tower by virtue of being raised Amyrlin. Just wondering if the community thinks both Elayne and Nynaeve are truly Aes Sedai after Egwene's decree. I myself don't think they deserve the title. Nor can they understand why no one feels they even deserve the title, since they're so stuck on themselves. Screw the Oath Rod as a significant determining factor. Some potential sisters fail on the second trip through the Rings, and those two are so messed up in the head, they may not be able to handle it. And Nynaeve hasn't been through even once.

Note: Hopefully the right section of forum to post. Be adviced, has a spoiler(s) from tGS (for those who still didn't read it - come on people, get to it! ) Something I’ve noticed while re-listening tGS. In “A Place to Begin” chapter while Rand talks with Morid he realizes that while thinking about Mat and Perrin he does not see the visions of them. He notes that it seemed right to him. And he also realizes that he feels more complete and LT is quiet. So, here is my thought – we know (or at least take it as a fact) that the visions that “three amigos” have of each other have something to do with them being taveran. We also know now that LT and Rand were a…

I recently did a reread of The Gathering Storm and in it Moridin is described as non emotional and very pragmatic. Even on the forums he is spoken of as turning to the Shadow because he saw no rational way for the Light to win. So in his mind it simply made sense to change teams and hasten the end. He really didn't seek glory or power for himself but didn't see the need to struggle in a losing battle. My problem is in the prologue of tEoTW he is very vain and full of hate. He tells LT he will kneel before him and worship him and he will make LT know pain. He is all about power and self glorification and making those who fought against him pay the ultimate price. Th…

Is there a thread already or somewhere online that lists where all the major characters are in the world as of the end of TGS. I remember the FAQ used to have a "State of the Light forces" section. Something like that would be useful.
