No, I don't have one, but my question is this: If you were to come across an authentic leaked copy of ToM (yes, I know it's not gonna happen, just a hypothetical here), would you download it? Would you share it? Would you even admit it? I have to say, in this completely hypostheical situation, I would... umm... actually I won't say, I'd hate to be incriminated should something ever come up ;D What about you?

I have to say I am new to the WOT universe. I have read all of the books including TGS. Which I have to say was the best so far. Does anybody else think Olver is in fact Birgette's ugly boyfriend from the legends of the Horn of Valor? And if so, How would Olver and Birgette get together?

Thinking out loud en-masse is a wonderful thing.. Creator bless the forum! The True Power is drawn directly from the DO. What are everyone's thoughts on another power provided, and drawn directly from the Creator? With all the 'yins' and 'yangs' to the series, there would be no surprise! Speculate!

  4. Hi there. First time posting, so you'll have to forgive me if this has been done before. Anyhow, what I mean by that, is what moments in the series really jump out at you, so much so that the image of what you're reading is ingrained in your mind. Bleh, I wish I could articulate that better, but hopefully that's good enough. As for a few my own; -Rand and Mat's journey back across the Waste as they return from Rhuidean. - Moiraine recovering after being knocked into the wagons and getting a severe flash of deja vu, as she sees Lanfear standing over Rand and the writhing Egwene and Aviendha. Robert Berry's "Song for Moiraine" further encapsulates this …

  5. I have not read TGS, so please no major spoilers if possible. Rand is trying to make a truce with the Seanchan to prepare for the Last Battle. Perrin made a truce with the Seanchan to save his wife. Matt is making a bond with the Seanchan by marrying the Daughter of the Nine Moons, the heir to the Seanchan empire. All of these events are affected around Ta'veren, for whom the Pattern can shape around to ensure its survival. Is the Pattern pushing these people to form the alliances in order to ensure Artur Hawkwing's empire returns to reclaim Randland? All 3 of them had lucky circumstances in which they met up with and were able to secure their truces. (Ma…

Right, I've reeled you in with a suitably vague but promising title. Here's my half baked offering. ;) It seems to me that pretty much the biggest infuriant (word?) in reading WOT, for most of us, is the lousy communication skills evinced by all and sundry. This lot could easily throw victory away because some idiot forgets to tell some other idiot something vital. However, we have had glimpses of proper talk, here and there. Example: Lan, near taking the door off it's hinges in the Stone, immediately prior to telling Nynaeve how much he loves her, and kissing her soundly, before he heads off to the Waste. (TSR?) Example: Mat and Birgitte's chat in E…

Is the White Tower completely broken? (I have NOT read TGS yet, so please no major spoilers if any) I'm not talking about physically broken, but is the Tower's influence diminished significantly? The Seanchan do not fear Aes Sedai, nor do they respect them. (obviously) The Seafolk / Athan Miere no longer fear Aes Sedai, and don't really respect them anymore. The Aiel no longer fear Aes Sedai, no longer fear failing the Aes Sedai, and barely respect them. The Asha'man no longer fear Aes Sedai, yet there is some sort of mutual respect if tenuous. The Kin no longer fear Aes Sedai, and their respect for them is slowly dwindling. While this is probably …

  9. I know I read somewhere in these forums that RJ said that if the answer seemed too straight forward, the you were asking the wrong question. Of course, now I can't find it to quote it directly... Anyway, in light of this I started thinking, how many AS type answers has RJ given that no one's ever caught on to? For example; "Olver is not Gaidal Cain." Exactly, Olver is Olver. He didn't say Olver wasn't Gaidal Cain reborn. (As far as I know anyway, I can't find anything I want today and I've been looking for like an hour >.> ) I'd like to expand on this, but seeings how I don't have the facts on what RJ said, I'll stop here for now. Is there a place that has…

  10. Something that really grinds my gears is how the small uses for the power, or even clever uses aren't explored. Some ideas of what a channeler could are Furniture that is made from air, maybe with some fire/earth to give it some colour. You could give it a switch that has a 'normal' chair setting and a lighter than air setting (with attached rope). Or even a 'briefcase' setting like george jetson. This would seem to make travelling a lot easier on people, and imagine the prices you could sell it for. As for clever things, why didn't Egwene just make a small Traveling gate, put her hand through to touch the chain and turn it to Cullendar remotely. This could even…

Does anyone hope to see Dark Rand make a few appearances in the upcoming book, personnally I feel that a complete and utter change is unrealistic and would spoil the series somewhat for me. I want to see soem backsliding. After all rands psyche has to deal with moridins psyche also so I hope to see some backsliding and struggling with the way he was and the way he is after his epiphany sotospeak

The Wild Hunt; Darkhound Anomalies The Normal Darkhound In the Dragon Reborn we get introduced to Darkhounds for the first time. Whilst difficult to kill, Lan manages to do so with a sword [tDR;43, Shadowbrothers], and Perrin with a bow [tDR; 44, Hunted]. They normally operate in packs of ten or twelve [CoT; 7, A Blacksmiths Puzzel], and this amount is cited as a limit by Masuri. Two packs loosed near each other will invariably turn on each other [tDR; 44, Hunted], which may also be the reason for the normal size limit on packs. If we can take Masuri, Lan and Moiraine's knowledge as indicative that the above is the norm for Darkhounds, then we hav…

A short invite to discuss Armies and their numbers. I feel RJ didn't convince me about his choice of numbers where armies are concerned. 40 000 Aiel here - 10 000 there.. and 100 000 men over there. Sure if you have an army of 100 000 you can tell it to invade some place. Moving 40 000 men - 100 000 men is not something done over the weekend. It feels like it though. 40 000 Aiel would have hunted the local game to extinction and done all sorts of damage to... everything. If 40 000 Aiel piss in a river the ecosystem would freak out. If 40 000 Aiel ate deer, deer would become rare. What are your thoughts on this?

I've mused on this in the course of several threads, and I thought it was about time I tried to put my thoughts together on the subject. The phrase comes from the Dark Prophecy: The notes are from http://encyclopaedia-wot.org/prophecies/dark.html However, this is a prophecy, so it may be a series of separate statements, and the reference to Toman Head may be completely unconnected to the mention of the Hammer. Furthermore, it is a Dark Prophecy, and I feel it should accordingly be treated with caution, in two respects especially. The Hammer For one thing, there is more than one Hammer! Luthair Paendrag Mondwin was known to the Se…

Ok, I knooooow I'm beating a dead horse (or something) by bringing this overly-discussed topic back up to the surface but I just can't get it out of my mind. We've been told (by whom, I forget) that Mesanna is disguised as a sister. Brandon has suggested that we start thinking about ways to defeat the Oath Road and believe me, I am trying! A few months ago, I posted my theory about Mesanna hiding as a novice or an accepted and that theory was quickly shot down. Thinking about it now, Mesaana as a novice is not plausible for a number of reasons like the fact that novices are under many restrictions and have little freedom. Mesanna as an Accepted, however, coul…

  17. Since my beginning in this journey we know and love as Wheel of Time I’ve always longed for someone that I actually know to read these books. I have friends that are readers to some degree, but not willing to take this on. I’ve recruited like college football coach to entice people to try the series. Luckily after I read the series I found Dragonmount and I’ve been pretty satisfied until…. My sister, who I’ve discussed the books with before, seemed to be interested in getting started. Her and I have somewhat similar taste in fantasy reading ex. HP, Eragon, Tolkien, etc. Finally she decided to start reading tEOtW on Tuesday. Last update was that she was 100 pages in…

So I'm betting this has probably been mentioned, but I haven't seen it. Or it has some better explanation that I've missed. Anyway, I was re-reading Knife of Dreams, and I got to this paragraph where Aviendha is picking up all the various ter'angreal and saying what they are for... It's used for growing something (not plants). It makes her think of holes, only they weren't exactly holes. Maybe their not exactly holes, because they've got crumbling seals in them. Maybe this ter'angreal is going to be used to grow the dark one's prison. Not to patch it, but grow it whole. And it is activated by singing. Only not any song, but a particular song that was …

I've played around on the new boards myself, and they are shiny, with a whole range of new options and social networking interfaces. For anyone interested Kath has been answer some questions on the General Discussions board for you to go through. Here is her original release.

  20. with all the knowledge of what happened in the books, what would you do? Who would you talk to and what would you say? I think it'd be interesting to see the characters reactions if they found out you know everything that's going on. I'd probably tell Rand that moiraine is alive and Mat and Thom are going to get her back.

  21. I ask this question because of the following segment from Luckers' "Big unnoticed thing thread: So while we know that trollocs cannot travel, do we have any reason to believe that an army of trollocs cannot be skimmed from one location to another? While traveling and skimming are similar they are not exactly the same thing. Just thought this might clear up some of the issues of trolloc armies appearing unexpectedly. Any thought?

Hi all, quick question...At the end of TGS, when Rand goes through his big transformation, is that what Cadsuane was supposed to teach him? I mean, she may have done something indirectly, but it was still her doing. And if so, what is she supposed to teach the Asha'Man (sp)? They can't all be on that level that Rand is at...

  25. We all know that Darkhounds are a rift on Black Hounds and other beastly dogs from folklore in Britain, Ireland and Europe. Also know as Barghest. A few facts about them: -The black dog is essentially a nocturnal apparition, often said to be associated with the Devil, and its appearance was regarded as a portent of death. -It is often associated with electrical storms and also with crossroads, places of execution and ancient pathways. -In the Isle of Man it is styled Mauthe Dhoog, or Moddey Dhoo .People believe that anyone who sees the dog will die soon after the encounter with the dog. Okay but you was that pack in crossroads after? Fain, Tuon, Rand or Perri…

  26. In tFoH there is a meeting of the forsaken that cought my eye on this readthrough: We know that women can see a link by the blending of the glow they see, but how would a man, who only feels a sense of menace be able to notice a link between men and women? I don't mean how is it possible, just in what manner do you think he would sense it?

  27. Some thing struck me as I was reading and posting in Luckers' "Mysteries of Cyndane" thread. There is the quote that The Finns have vast stockpiles of Angeal, Sa'angreal, and Ter'angreal. My thought was were did the Finns get this massive load of Angreal. I wonder if there cache is the accumulated angreal created and lost from previous ages. I.E. that once the pattern was done with angreal and they were lost for good that the Finns were able to collect these power wrought items. The only other way I can see were they could collect a large quantity of Angreal is by taking them from those that they kill when the original agreement is broken. This would have to have oc…

In the sid eof the ocean where Rand and everybody else are the ogier all are in steddings and seem to be a lot different than the Ogier that are from Seanchan and are in the Deathwatch Guard. It seems like the ones in Rands side of the world follow the old ways and are peaceful and gardeners opposite of the warrior types from Seanchan. Also Ogier like Loial need to visit the steddings after a time but the other Ogier don't seem to have that problem. Maybe the Ogier like Loil are following the way of the leaf type lifestyle and the other Ogier follow the warrior path. What do you think will happen when the two different Ogier groups meet? The Aiel in the old days …

Hello all!! I am fairly new here, and have really enjoyed reading all the discussions that takes place. I am on my 3rd read through (currently in middle of KoD) and there is something that kind of irks me. So Rand seems to start deteriorating into madness as early as book 3. One thing he does not show a lot of however is fear of individuals. He faces down Ishmael 3 times, Belal, Rahvin, Sammael and beats them all (yes, sometimes with help). Then enter Taim in Book 6 and latter Cadsuane. It seems to me Rand/LTT shows some unwarranted fear/paranoia of both of these characters (on a side note, i think both are great). I get that he is going mad, and maybe t…

Ok. This re-read seems to have provided more questions than answers so far... but luckily answers are what I have you lovely DMers for. :D I noticed that in chapter 33 after Perrin and company rescue the Luhans and the Cauthons from the Whitecloak camp, Perrin tells certain members of the Goldeneyes Gang (including Gaul) to escort the rescued captives to a safe location while he goes to hunt trollocs. Excerpt from The Shadow Rising: A New Weave in the Pattern This is all well and good, however in chapter 40 Perrin is reminiscing over how his nose and Gaul's tracking skills had helped him track trollocs a scant two days after the rescue.
