  1. I just re-read the battle of Dumai's Wells and it got me thinking what happens to the warder of a stilled sister? The two events that come to mind with stilling happen there and when Siuan is deposed. For Siuan and Leanne their warders were killed in the battle, and I didn't see any mention of what happened the the warders of the stilled sisters at Dumai's. So is the warder bond broken? Does the sudden break cause as much emotional harm to the warder as it does the sister? Just curious if there is a scene I can't think of that answers this, or if RJ or BS ever answered the question.

I was re-listening to Eye of the World tonight, and this caught my ear: And then I started wondering if this was a reference, filtered through the ages, of Neil Armstrong / Apollo 11, and Sally Ride.

  3. Started by Kalessin,

While reading that hilarious scene of Mat trying to make sense of the Aes Sedai at Salidar celebrating Egwene's ascent to the Amyrlin Seat, I read that bit about Mat anti-Power angreal going chilly after dancing with Halima and wandering on, and I thought, of all the things Halima is most likely to try, it's Compulsion. He's ta'veren, he's got the ear of the Dragon Reborn, he's clearly one of the linchpins of the resistance to the Dark One, and taking him out of the play and making use of him is going to get Halima major kudos from the Dark One and Chosen cohorts. What do people think?

So maybe I’m a late to this party, but the maidens that treat Rand as a son rather than a brother, could they be one that had given birth and gave their child to a wise one? It would make sense that they would treat Rand as a son. Or is it purely preferential?

  5. Started by DarkClaw82,

This may have been discussed already, but I’m on my 4th trip through the books (audiobooks to be accurate). I had an idea for a possible use for gateways and wanted to see if my idea could work and thought this might be the best place to present it. So we have seen that gateways were used to observe a battle field in real time. My thought was could they be used to communicate. If a channeler had a device, maybe similar in size and shape to a makeup compact, could a gateway be opened in that device and a conversation be had across a multitude of miles. The item may have to be made of cuendillar to survive the gateway edges. Each person’s device would have to be u…

  6. *try to keep spoilers to a minimum. Thanks!👍 I have officially read books 1-6. I am starting book 7 soon. Tel'aran'rhiod was interesting to dive into. Robert Jordan is able to build a world that revolves around all the worlds linked to the wheel of time. Just thinking about that initially made my head spin. What stood out to you about this, "unseen world", when it was first introduced? I am hoping to get more context on Tel'aran'rhoid through the books.

  7. Started by Apple,

Spoilers for the whole series I guess. I finally got around to reading the Brandon Sanderson novels (without rereading the RJ ones which I read when they came out, so there's a bit of a time gap there). I'm not trying to have a go at them, but one thing that really surprised me and even after trying to think it over I just don't get is Lan's ending. Thematically, aside from writing differences and author voice etc, I mean. Both Lan and Nynaeve were characters that struck me as torn between what they want and what they feel they need to do, happy when their duty lines up with helping those they care about. When you get right down to it, they'd bot…

  8. Hi all, I’m new here but definitely not new to the book series. I’m here looking for more information on a very rare book in my WoT collection. It’s a leather bound, gold letters, sleeved HC of book 10 of the Wheel of Time, Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan. 1st edition (January 2003 published in New York by TOR Fantasy). What makes this a rare find is that there are only 202 printed copies. All signed by Robert Jordan. But there is more. The 202 signed copies are divided in 150 copies that are a rare find in their own right. And then there are also the first 52 signed & LETTERED copies reserved for the author and publisher. I have in my possession nr 52,…

  9. Started by Kalessin,

Let's see, he's a blacksmith, so that's a start. Then he's Goldeneyed. He confesses to having a Tin Ear. We've seen him in action as Perrin the Silver Tongued, and for those who know what Chrysostom means, Golden Mouthed as well. Even his wife concedes he has a Heart of Gold, though sometimes a Head of Lead. What else can we add?

  10. In FoH, when we finally reach Samara on the Ghealdan side of the river, we see the animals Valan Luca has in his menagerie. RJ's slipped it in, so quietly you'd never notice, but I am re-reading the series, and this leaped out at me: I've seen them in Tidbinbilla in ACT. They're koalas. I suppose RJ may have had a visit or two to Australia, and perhaps visited Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney, or so.

  11. Started by Morrip00,

While reading book 4 I was suddenly struck that I’m not sure how long has passed in the “in world” timeline since the start of book 1 or other set starting point in the Third Age. Looking around I can’t see a timeline for the series. I’m assuming there has to be one about somewhere? I can find some that cover the publishing of the books and one that covers events in the first two books (more TV related) but nothing that covers the whole series. Ideally I’m after something that’s very high level and spoiler free like the Star Wars timeline.

  12. Started by Bentrudagi,

Is LTT the only other Dragon that we know by name? Do the Dragons always come from the same area of Randland? It just seems odd that given the size of the world, two Dragons in a row came from the same geographic region. If the Dragon were to be spun into Seanchan or the Land of Madmen, would anyone outside of that area even know about it? Anyway, just a thought as I am re reading through the series.

Hi, I'm new here, first post after signing up with an account to the site so apologies if this is answered elsewhere, I haven't had a chance to look. I'm about to start reading WoT Book 4 in a next few days (just finishing off my current book first) but it's been a while since I read book 3. Is there a good source to refresh my ageing memory as I understand there is no recap at the beginning of book 4 to do so. Thank you in advance.

  14. Started by rsandos,

Hi all, I hope this is okay to ask. My husband was a huge WOT fan. The whole time I've known him he would just read the series, finish it and then pick it up and start again. He died on the 9th of December and I would love to find an excerpt that I could have read out at the funeral, maybe something about love, or death, or just a significant passage. I've only read one of the books myself (now he's gone I will be reading them all pretty non stop I imagine) but if anyone has any recommendations or passages they think are appropriate please let me know! I want the funeral to be about him, and he loved this series so much.

  15. Started by Bentrudagi,

I understand that there are some things that we as the reader are just not meant to know, but I'm curious where exactly the Chosen went when they were sealed away by LTT. How exactly did he and the 100 seal them away? Were their bodies physically removed from our universe, or just their souls? When they escaped, where did they appear? Shayol Ghul, or some random spot in the world? Did they all come out at the same time? How long before the events of TEotW did they first escape? Is their escaping related to the seals breaking? Like I said, I know most of this is information we simply aren't privy to, but has any of this been discussed by RJ, or mentioned in the b…

  16. Started by Dan G,

In my first read thru of WOT, and desperately working to avoid spoilers, I noticed some fans commenting that books nine and ten were somehow not as well written and a "slog" to get thru. I did not delve into this at the time due to my spoiler concern but when I got to book ten, it did not seem as bad as I thought it might be. Certainly, the tone was a bit different and book 11 on were amazing but I did not see so much a drop in quality , rather, a lot of set up for what was to come. Admittedly, not having to wait for the next book to be released probably helped as I was not taking an enforced break waiting for the story to continue. Your thoughts?

  17. So I think there is a lot of love about WoT. I love the world building and the characters are well defined and, for the most part, interesting. Of course I have my favorites. I read the first 3 books about 10 years ago. I just picked up book 4. It's interesting to revisit a world now that I'm in my 30s rather than my early 20s. A lot of the things I remember not connecting with still persist. The main thing is the way the different binary gendered people think about the other gender. Mat thinks all women can't help but clean things all the time. Nynaeve loves Lan but also thinks he is dumb all the time. For me, this is terribly off-putting in the …

  18. Hi folks! This is my first post here, so go easy on me if this is not the right place to ask. Does anybody know if there is a place where I can buy the entire series with the 3rd edition book covers shown here? I absolutely love these covers and how they look sitting on a shelf, but since the TV Show aired all the copies with good-looking covers I find have that stupid, non-removable "Now an Original Series on Prime Video" sticker, and I absolutely hate it.

  19. The last book's conclusion saw Rand al' Thor successfully recreating the Dark One's Prison through a powerful weaving of Saidin, Saidar, and True Power. The end product of which is described as pure light whose brilliance even the Dark One cannot withstand. As Rand sealed the Lord of Darkness as it was done in ages past and in ages that will still come, it became clear that Shadowkiller's life is also draining away. At the end, Rand was able to switch psyche, transferring his soul, his consciousness, his whole being to the body of Moridin and vice versa which eventually saved his life from certain death. As he rode south to begin a new life, a life of travelling and caref…

  20. Started by Dan G,

"Any sufficiently advanced technology would appear to be Magic." We know from WOT that much of the technology discovered from the Age Of Legonds is not understood even by expert channelers And even in the Age of Legonds only a small percentage of the population was able to channel the one power. Based on this it seems that the magical system in WOT is much closer to the Stargate franchise where a few individuals can interface with Anchent tech than something like Harry Potter which is more focused on the specific elements and organic components like the type of wood a wand is made from. So, can WOT Channeling be considered Magic on its face value …

  21. After my recent first read thru of WOT, I am now reading "The World of the Wheel of Time". I get the sense that a higher order Being or Beings, similar to the Q continuum in Star Trek , are running a set of experiments in pocket universes to explore the reactions of the people in each universe and concepts Iike free will and thought. After the breaking of the world in the Rand Land universe, the concept of a Creator developed as an explanation of what had occurred. The Dark One was left as part of this experiment as a test to see if a desire for a new, ultimate source of energy would overcome any danger that could be the result of this endeavor.

  22. I was reading Brandon Sanderson's Wheel of Time retrospective, and he mentioned that Perrin's wound was "mythologically significant" thoughts?

  23. Started by Kalessin,

I'm wondering if anyone's yet composed melodies to go along with the songs in the Wheel of Time? I've found myself at times thinking such-and-such a melody would fit Mat's lyrics in TLoC, though I haven't got around to doing anything with my musings. And likewise, humming a melody to the plainchant spear songs of the Aiel - I learnt one Maori chant - Te Tau o Matatua - when I was learning the Maori language in the 1980s. And the Aiel battle songs seem quite like the Maori chant. |That is, it wouldn't have a wide range, and would be very rhythmic, and so on.

  24. Please please please, can you help me without giving any spoilers? I’m about halfway through The Shadow Rising and I’m bothered at two ideas I cannot reconcile- can you help me figure out if one or both is correct, or if I am right to be confused and should just keep reading! 1. The Dark One and the Forsaken weee bound in Shayol Goul by the Creator at the beginning of the world. or is it 2. The Dark One and the Forsaken were out in the world at one point and then Lews Therin and a bunch of Aes Sedai defeated them and sealed them up. which one is it? And if the answer would be a spoiler for me (again, I’m in the Shado…

  25. Luthair Paentrag feared the Aes Desai in Saenchan who could overthrown him if they didn't fight each-other. He then got a type of ter'angreal called an a'dam who made Aes Sedai slaves called Damane controlled bij Sul'dam (women who could learn to channel). Could the Sul'dam with the power of the Damane not also overthrown Lutair Paentrag?

  26. I am on book 5 and this is my second time reading the series. I understand what Robert Jordan's idea was with the reluctant hero. However, by the end of book two enough was enough. The continuation of the characters, not just stubbornly resisting the paths laid out before them, but consistently ignoring the changes that occur to them is painfully frustrating for the reader. It makes them appear simple-minded. Worse, it is not an accurate portrayal of a group of friends. Particularly friends who have grown up almost as brothers. Their unwillingness to discuss what is happening even among themselves rings false. I am surprised that beta readers/Editors did not make an…

  27. Started by HeWhoRunsWithTheSpears,

Does anyone else feel that this plot point is one of the worst in the entire series? I'm sure it's been brought up countless times, but I just want to give my two cents on it. I don't understand why Jordan felt the need to connect him to Elayne and Aviendha. CLEARLY the only real connection he has is to Min. They actually have a pretty decent love story going. There is absolutely no endgame for his "relationship" (if you can even call it that) with Elayne and Aviendha. I read this whole series as an adult and this bugged me the entire time. It seemed like a teenager's fantasy (being written by a man in his 50s-60s, all the more creepy). It's not like Rand's re…

  28. Perrin forges his Power-wrought Warhammer, and marches with his army to aid Galad and his Whitecloacks, who are about to be ambushed by a massive Shadowspawn army. An animated breakdown:

  29. Started by HeavyHalfMoonBlade,

So I have finally actually read New Spring as opposed to just looking at it on my desk and thinking that I had. (How I did not realise how vague I was on the details, I am not sure - Moiraine and Suian in the Tower, bla bla, Lan and the pond, bla bla bla, searching for the Dragon, the end. This must literally have been what I had in my mind, and apparently I thought that seemed perfectly adequate for a novel. I mean it is not as lengthy as some of Jordan's works but still.) Anyhoo, before I finished the series (ok thought I had finished the series) last year I had never looked WoT up on the internet. I mean it wasn't a thing when I started reading, and then, n…

  30. Started by Goji,

Okay so I’m a fairly new reader (up to ch 7 in the Great Hunt, so please no spoilers beyond that) and already I’m severely annoyed by the Emond’s Fielders’ attitude towards Moiraine. Sometimes they trust her, other times they look at her with suspicion. Oh we need protection from Trollocs or the Dark One? “Moiraaaaiiine, HEEELP.” Oh but she’s an Aes Sedai, “WHAT A MANIPULATIVE SNAKE.” The fact that she’s even saving them at all should elicit some kind of trust, and the fact that she risks herself to do so. I get that she’s stronghanded and secretive, and sometimes cold, but that is severely outweighed by the good she does for them. She’s literally the best hope they have …
