Hello, I am just starting to read the books as I found my brother owned them all and I was out of reading material. I started with new spring as it had no book number so I thought this was the first book, im on page 194 and found out its the prequel (which I should have noticed earlier as some things I don't understand) should I keep reading the book or stop and read the first?

I can't believe I've never really thought of this before but yesterday I was re-reading little snippets of The Dragon Reborn and I came across the passage where Egwene is entering the World of Dream, one of her first forays, and she enters the heart of the stone and meets a woman who calls herself Sylvie. This Sylvie woman helps her out seems all kind and comforting, obviously has an in depth knowledge of the World of Dreams since she shakes her head when Egwene confess she can't get out. Sylvie mutters something along the line of "Shouldn't be here. Dangerous if you don't know the rules". Then perhaps most bizarrely after Sylvie sends Egwene flying out of the World of D…

I've been puzzling about them for quite some time. The only large predatory cats on the continent that we have been informed about were the Ebou Dari leopards, who decamped on discovering that the Ebou Dari were a very aggressive mob not to be trifled with. And the cat Galina Sedai sees hunting while she is being broken by Therava and Sevanna shortly before they pass the judgement of Datsang on her. So where would the inspiration for their name have come from? We've seen (from Tanchico) that Randlanders tend to disbelieve in most of the stuff of the Age of Legends. And big cats are just another of those things ... Of course, before Robert Jordan wo…

I saw alot of dissapointment in the Demandred thread on the way Lan was the one to kill Demandred, while i didnt mind it and thought it fit quite well others wanted him dead by the power and not a simple sword fight. How would you have rathered he died? Remember he's in a circle of 72 with sakarnen! edit forgot about the spoiler title could a Mod please change it.

Is it me or is this a large plot thread - referenced in 5+ books - that doesn't go anywhere? It seems quite bizarre, especially considering how easy it is for even the most powerful channelers to be the victim of Compulsion (Elayne and Nynaeve, Forsaken talking about doing it to each other). But aside from giving her headaches it didn't seem to effect Egwene at all, and she simply was removed from the situation and later found out about Halima's identity. (For those that don't remember: Halima/Aran'gar is performing witchcraft on Amerlyn Seat Egwene nightly, under the guise of curing her headaches).

So, I'm rereading the WoT for the first time in over a decade, and I just wanted to share a particular annoyance of mine: every characterin the books assumes they know the truth and that everyone else are idiots. Currently, I'm in TSR and I just read about Elaidia's foretelling about the royal line of Andor being the key to success against the Dark One, and assumes its the line that starts when Morgase takes the throne (Rand, being the son of Tirgraine (sp?) the previous daughter-heir, is the answer to that particular foretelling). There is alot of pure ignorance and stubbornness in alot of characters. That's it, just wanted to share/vent. Have a good day all…

We know Rand used Mashadar to cleanse the taint. This thread is to discuss other methods Rand might have used. Methods I thought of:: -Open the Tower of Ghenjei then dispose the Taint into the world of the Aelfinn & Eelfinn. -Do a Gateway to another world or to another dimension then dispose the Taint there. -If the Eelfinn doorway still existed, he might have entered it and wished for the Taint to be cleansed. -Turn the Taint into some kind of object then balefire the object. -Same method he used but after having the rest of the captured Aes Sedia come along. The last 3 would probably have the least problems with them, and the doorway method requiri…

In tFoH, Rand called Moiraine 'little sister'. He didn't know where it came from. Does it have to do with Lews Therin's memories within Rand? Sometimes it slips through him. Or doesn't mean anything at all? Also, Moiraine saw in Rhuidean that it's utter disaster to have 'sexual relation' with him. So maybe they're kin?--in the least, Lews Therin and whoever Moiraine was in the past life. Just wondering. What d'you think?

If you haven't finished reading the book series, probably not a good idea reading this... So you are warned. I finished reading this long ago, and came up with a theory instantly, but I was baffled to find others didn't think in that same manner, so I figured I'd share my concepts. I believe that Rand was able to light the pipe while no longer having access to saidin because he no longer needed it. His entire life he was the most powerful ta'veren ever to have walked the earth. Towards the end, it started to become clear that unlike most ta'veren who have no direct control over how things are effected by them, and it merely happens, he started to learn to contr…

Reading through the early books ive seen a lot of hatred toward Aes Sedai. From commoners to soldiers , personal experience to word of mouth, theres a lot of haters out there. Why is that? I cant see anything particularly bad that they do.

From an early point in the series, it's clear that ishamael remembers all of his past lives. This seems to be why he is so desperate for death. but do he have these memories before joining the Shadow or did The dark one give them to him? it would make sense that he joined the shadow because the dark one promised to give him an eternal death, if he was so tired from remembering all of his lives. but the story was quite clear that the reason he joined the shadow is because he saw that the shadows triumph was inevitable. It never mentioned early on that he saught an eternal death. did he make his decision to join the shadow because …

Did Robert Jordan leave enough materials to write any other prequels? Sequels? I would love to read of Mat and Tuon's fortunes in retaking Seanchan and Tuon's shock at discovering that his sister Bodewhin is by now an Aes Sedai ... family feuds, family dramas ....

When a channeler looses his ability to, well, channel, then he dies of sadness because he has nothing to live for without the joy the one source brings. Rand, not being able to feel Saidin and without a purpose in the world, should feel the same way, shouldn't he? Yet it is stated that Rand felt "limitless relief" as he realized he couldn't channel anymore. Why? Shouldn't he, like, cry out in pain?

So Perrin knows Faile needs help. He zips around the world of dreams until he finds a falcon and then he concludes she is there in the real world. Why? How? This doesn’t make any sense. my only guess is that Perrin used a God power previously undescribed, he just couldn’t admit to himself he had it so he made believe he found her the world of dreams.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE FINALE, LOVED IT. My guy Perrin taking command of the mission to rescue Rand, the Asha'man & Perrin's Wolfbrothers coming to assist out of nowhere & the captured Tower Aes Sedai are going to get what's coming to them (except Galina got away, darn). Rand demanding the Saladar Aes Sedai to kneel (at least the 9 at the battle) & swear fealty to him gave me chills. I read the last 350 pages over the last 2 days even staying up late last night finishing it - worth it! Happy this was not another Forsaken confrontation ending like it was gearing up to be with Sammael, twist! Not that I don't enjoy a Forsaken showdown fin…

I just finished the series for the first time and I have 2 questions, SPOILERS 1st: I liked Padan Fain's death. I don't know why but it felt appropriate that Mat just takes him out with ease and the Mat was the one to do it. Why does everyone hate his death so much? 2nd: Someone please help me out here, I didn't understand 1 small detail in Perrin's fight with Slayer in the last book. Perrin was at the verge of death crawling away and hiding from slayer when Lanfear shows up and scoffs at him. Then in the very next scene, he is powered up and chasing down Slayer like nothing happened, becoming the hunter. What happened? Did I miss something? Accide…

I've been wondering about this for the past few days and finally realised that hey, I can ask here. Aren't I the bright one. Anyway. In the Age of Legends people were born with two names and earned the third one. As we all know. But which of the names, on those known AoL characters who have three names, is the special earned name? I used to just assume it was the last one, until I came across Ilyena's wiki page, which tells me that her full name was Ilyena Moerelle Dalisar until she married Lews Therin Telamon, at which point she became Ilyena Therin Moerelle. (I'm assuming this info is from the Big White Book because the wiki doesn't cite sources on this one. My …

I can understand Rand wanting a little time to wander free of responsibility after what he has been through, but its pretty unsatisfying to think he will ignore his three loves and his children forever. Maybe if they thought he was truly dead, but they know he lives. I imagine Rand assuming a new identity and settling at one of his schools with Min. He isn't exactly a scholar, but he surely doesn't lack for knowledge or wisdom and Min would be much happier there than on a farm somewhere. He could travel to serve as a tutor to his children by Elayne and Aviendha. Once the children are grown and ready to assume their mother's responsibilities they could be told the tru…

I, personally, find the Aes Sedai to be conceited. They beleive they have the right to decide how the world should be ran. Alot of them even think that rulers have no right to their thrones unless the White Tower thinks they should. They are especially stuck up when it comes to the one power. They think that they own the OP and no one except those that they choose, have the right to even touch it. If most Aes Sedai had their way, using the OP without, the white towers consent, would be punishable by death. I find this very foolish, since I'm pretty sure the Aiel Wise Ones had been using the OP before the White Tower was even formed. Most Red Aes Sedai would …

I’m not a geneticist, but why are two out of four kids Rand has with Avi dark hair dark eyes? Not only is Rand red haired and blue eyed, so is Avi and both of Rand’s parents have Aiel coloring, Tigraine is red hair blue eyes, so is Rand’s da. And all of Avi’s ancestry is Aiel..

I'm rereading the series and have been thinking about Androl. He's considered weak in the power but hasban uncanny ability to create gateways larger than people much more powerful. How is he able to do this. Two possibilities come to mind. The first is a block. A block which feeds off of his love of travel, which prevents him from accessing ant significant amount of power unless traveling is involved. The second is that he is actually very powerful but is somehow restricted to a single talent, traveling. So is isn't able to channel effectively in other talents.

I just had this thought and I was wondering if you could in fact use Healing as a weapon. It sounds wrong but just hear me out. So Healing is meant to heal people right? But it also drains the person being Healed of energy and takes a minimal amount of energy from the Healer. So could you Heal someone to make them weak and easy to defeat or capture? What do you think? Could Healing be used as a weapon?

I have a friend that will shortly be reading the Wheel of Time series for the first time. As a person who's re-read the series five times, I'm having a hard time deciding when's a good time for him to read New Spring, as a first timer. Should he: a). Read it before Eye of the World? b). Wait until he's read the entire series (he won't be finished with the books until well after A Memory of Light comes out)? Or c). read the first 6-7 books, read New Spring, then finish the series? [i'm having a hard time deciding when he should read it considering, to me anyways, reading the series all the way through and then the last book he reads after Tarmon Gai'don is New Spri…

I could just be blind but I've not seen any free discussion topic on favourite characters. Most just seem to be polls on a select few. So, since The Wheel of Time has enough named characters to fill a small city, I figure it may as well be your top ten. Or as many as you want, really. Feel free to give reasons for why they're your favourites. Mine are (SPOILER WARNING): 1. Moiraine and Mat as equal first. Moiraine for being one of few characters who is focused entirely on the Last Battle. Even when it seemed like she was manipulating, everything she did leaned towards winning TG. Mat because of his notoriety and attitude. Though I dislike how Sanderson …

I am a first time poster and I would first like to preface this by stating that I love the wheel of time and that it is one of my favorite book series. I have read the series multiple times and think it is amazing. The following is just a list of the small things that I personally dislike (only slightly) about the series and some small changes that I would have liked to have seen in the last book that I believe would have made the series perfect. Most of the points below are probably pretty common among many fans of the series. Some of my points revolve around Brandon Sanderson but I do not actually put much blame on him. I believe he is a great author and he did an amazi…
