  1. Started by Shaidar,

So I came up with a few ideas today that seem to suggest that you don't have to have a sa'angreal to inflict epic pwnage on your enemy. If you're strong enough to make a gateway, you're a walking multi-use nuclear bomb (quite literally). The Amazing Reusable Area Nuclear Bomb When you make a gateway and unpick it so that it collapses in on itself, it explodes catastrophically what with appears to be the power of a low yield nuclear device (see the scene where wonder girls are escaping from Seanchan capture of Ebou Dar). Now what prevents a channeler from doing the following: 1) channel a gateway to an area he wants to nuke. 2) channel another gateway to escape,…

  2. Started by armsfoldedunderbreasts,

This may have already been asked, however, that being said, does being a pillow friend refer to the fact that the two people are sexual active with each other? And has this only be mentioned regarding Aes Sedai? Any men ever pillow friends?

  3. We hear a lot in the series about how rarely people leave the Two Rivers. Merchants come into the Two Rivers to buy their wool and tabac. Everybody seems to be pretty poor. Fireworks are very rare, there's only one clock and all. But we see everybody in Randland smoking Two Rivers tabac. We also hear a lot about how stubborn Two Rivers folk are and how good some are at dealing with horses. So why are they being continually ripped off? There must be an inside joke among the merchants buying the tabac for a few clumps of dirt and selling it for gold. "I just took that guy like he was an Emonds Fielder." If the Two Rivers tabac is that widely used then everybody who gro…

  5. Started by Silentvoice,

I hope this isn't the wrong spot to post this, I wasn't sure if this topic could easily lead to TGS spoilers or not. I'm a little bit confused on the apparently different answers Rand received from the Aelfinn regarding how he is to survive the Last Battle. One answer states "If you would live, you must die" the other is "To live, you must die." The first one is past tense, the second is future tense. Either one of them could have been a misinterpretation by Rand, or misremembered. I did a search on the boards, but I was at a loss figuring out what search terms would give me the right posts, but I tried a few anyways and didn't find much. …

  6. Relevance of the Wolves at the Last Battle? We know that the wolves (and through them, Perrin) are going to have an impact on the Last Battle somehow. Compared with Mat’s artillery, Darkhounds that can kill with a bite and other Shadowspawn, not to mention potentially thousands of channelers on both sides, how can they possibly be significant though? Let’s consider the special abilities of the wolves: Wolf Abilities (1) Wolves have enhanced senses. Wolves can smell/track Shadowspawn, see at night, etc. (2) Wolves can detect channelers. Perrin describes their ability as being able to detect a single white sheep out of a herd of black …

  7. Hey guys I was musing over the Eye of the World (the saidin, not the book title) earlier and had an interesting thought. We know that saidin was tainted due to Lews Therin "touching" the Dark One with it. Many have theorised that Rand will use the True Power to "touch" the Dark One in resealing his prison (though I personally disagree with this theory). Now. I may be wrong here, but I believe there is a quote by either Robert Jordan or Brandon Sanderson stating the Eye of the World had some purpose beyond the first book. Is it possible that Rand will use the saidin in the Eye to "touch" the Dark One, thereby sealing his prison properly? As I understand it, …

  8. It can be for superficial reasons, or based on a character's personality. Or for any reason you want, everyone has their own reasons, right? So anyway, I'll start it off... Aviendha-fiery personality, shoulder-length reddish hair, and blue/green eyes. Loved her in Fires of Heaven (surprise!), and I just like how her character has developed throughout the series Birgitte-ever since her intro in TGH, I've always loved her sense of humor. I thought her scene when she was ripped of Tel'aran'rhiod was moving, and loved her interaction with Mat in ACOS. She has a roguish personality, and I'm always a sucker for blue eyes. I'll say that I was initially attract…

  9. Ok, hear me out... I'm in the middle of my re-read (Thanks Brandon) and was thinking about the whole "Chief of Chiefs" bit with the Aiel. I keep coming back the fact the Rand never really "came with the dawn". Sure he is a "Chief of Chiefs" as shown by the dragons but I keep thinking there might be more to it. Then I re-read this little tid bit... Twice dawns the day when his blood is shed. Once for mourning, once for birth. Red on black, the Dragon’s blood stains the rock of Shayol Ghul. In the Pit of Doom shall his blood free men from the Shadow. We all know Elayne is preggers and so I thought maybe Rand's baby boy might be the real "He Who Co…

  10. Started by wraith500000,

I was wondering if any one thought that perhaps Lanfear(SP?) and Moiraine(SP?) switched bodies so that now Lanfear is actually in moiraine's body and Moiraine is now in Lanfears body which could account for the lack of strength Cyndane now has. Anyway just wondering what everyone else thought. Thanks, Wraith

  11. Started by Barid Bel Medar,

First of all, this is just seeing what other people think, for myself, it seems that the evidence points to him being a DF nearly 99%, however, even though the A'M hunting Rand in FM say Taim wanted him killed and all the fuss about knowing things that only Forsaken know along with generally being a prick, there is nothing to conclusively prove that he is a DF. I would like to see Taim turn out to be one of the "good guys" rather than proving everyones theory he is a DF beacuse he is a prick and hates Rand, i mean, not all the people that hate rand and want to kill him are DF eg. Niall etc.. In any case, as I said, it is a very slim possibility and I dont really …

Wasnt there a time that the final book was going to be called Tarmon Gaidon ? I seem to recall this. I was totally stoked by that title. Who else wishes it was this still? and not 'Memory of LIght' or whatever it is now.

  13. I'm a little confused about the entire plot of this series. We're told that The Dark One was accidentally released when Lanfear and other Aes Sedai were investigating a new source of power. They tapped into the bore and released the Dark One. Then sides were chosen, and a power struggle began. In that time Lews Therrin and his 100 companions fought and sealed off the bore trapping the Dark One and the Forsaken. Here is what I don't get: If the Dark One is so badass, why did he bother winning over the top 12 Aes Sedai to become "Chosen" Why didn't he just start smashing the wheel and destroying all things before any resistance could be put up? W…

I wonder how long before Nynaeve gets around to trying to heal and re-attach severed limbs? After that comes the idea of transplants(if the Aes Sedai can learn about blood types and tissue rejection), maybe Rand can regain his lost hand.

  15. I've owned the WoT saga for a couple of decades, but never got past the The Shadow Rising, despite continuing to buy the books when they were released. When I discovered they were available on CD in an unabridged format, I sank an unbelievable amount into getting the collection and the hubby and I are soaking them up as fast as they can be played. I have what is probably a really stupid question with an obvious answer, but everytime I've thought something was obvious before, Jordan's thrown me for a loop... I'm currently listening to CoT and Elza is a bit dissapointed that none "of her own heart" traveled to Cairhien with the Warders. Is that another phrase for he…

doing a re-read, and i came across something in the Prologue of Lord of Chaos stating that Moiraine used a weave of invisibility in front of Nynaeve, before she knew how to use the Power. i'm too lazy to look back, so i was wondering when this happened.

  18. The Sylvase is Cyndane Theory Edit: Unfortunately in a recent Q&A Brandon pretty much put this theory in the trash. The report seems pretty reliable, but I'm gonna leave this up here anyway for the fact that people will probably still talk about it. The idea that Sylvase has been replaced by Cyndane began with the similarities in their descriptions. Both women are short, with silvery-blond hair and an icy demeanor. At the beginning she is described as being stupid, but notice the sequence of the descriptions of her—take note of the descriptions of her prettiness, and her stupidity. Descriptions Firstly Elenia. Elenia clearly d…

  19. Started by Luckers,

Two posters recently put up signing Q&A reports on Tor.com. Forkroot's Questions. 1. My first question pertained to whether there was a mistake in the text when Joline is negotiating horse counts with Mat - did she overlook her warders? BWS looked surprised and said that if indeed the text didn't account for them that it was a mistake as Joline would not have forgotten them. 2. My second question was if any of the major Aiel characters was an unexposed Darkfriend. This got RAFO'd right away, so draw your own conclusions. Samadai's Questions 1. One question he took that I hadn't yet seen was, Was Masema just having visions or was someone actual…

  21. For years I've always wondered what an Aes Sedai would look like in real life. How would an ageless face look? How would they carry themselves? Would they really have a noticable aura eminating from them? Recently I've begun working out at home using the P90X DVD series. There is a woman in several of the videos named Dreya Weber. She is a gymnist and aerialist. I can tell you that if Aes Sedai were real, this is what they would look like. I've never seen such an air of confidence radiating from someone like it does from here. She also really has an ageless face, sometimes appearing to be as young as 26, sometimes as old as mid-fourties. Check it out!

  23. SPOILER WARNING SPOILER WARNING SPOILER WARNING I am new to this forum but i figured it was the right place to voice some thoughts I have had about the wheel of time, particularly the rebirth and turning of the wheel. First of all I would like to say that this story is truly epic and I love it. I have read the books seceral times. One thing that wonders me is that the wheel turns and everyone is reborne until the end of time. In this epic, we have seen many forsaken die and many of them by balefire. This means that they can never be reborne again and the dark lord must find new forsakens when the wheel has turned. We also hear that the dark one has fought the d…

  24. Well, ok, not Everyone. But, it seems as if the 2nd in command of every single organization is a darkfriend. Spoiler Alert White Tower - Keeper = Alviarin = darkfriend Rebel Tower - Keeper = Sheriam = under the thumb of a darkfriend, at least Black Tower - M'Heal = Taim = darkfriend of some kind Whitecloaks - Eamon Valda = not a DF I don't think, but betrayed the previous LCC Padan Fain is part Mordeth who craves being the voice in the King's ear, or 2nd in command. Seanchan - commander of the Hailene - Suroth = darkfriend Is this a theme of the books? That those who wish to corrupt find places where they can influence the leader without …

  25. which would it be?! Also note that you can have him combine books if you think two books in a row were not that interesting! I would have books 8,9, and 10 be made into 2 books. I really didn't like them! My girlfriend was rereading the Great Hunt yesterday and loves the series but she has troubles with that book too. It could definitely use a rewrite! This book is one of the two barriers for people who are reading the series. If you are of the opinion that RJ is not fallible and his books are perfect the way they are! Say so too, but defend the books in question! :-X

  26. Started by Luckers,

So, ok, this may be reaching at straws, but something occurred to me when doing the write up for the DMDB Very Helpful Verin listing--specifically, Verin's behaviour was scoured prior to tGS for actions that were out of the ordinary (aka Verinisms). After tGS, though, we've not really paid attention to new abnormalities--oh people discuss her notes to Mat, but the spotlight on her seems to have faded. Yet she does say some very weird things about her Warder, Tomas. My problem with this is why is Tomas spending his last hour doing anything? Why does he have a last hour at all? The last hour prescription is a function of the binding Black Aes Sedai underg…

  27. Started by haloun,

does anyone else have ideas on the actual nature of lini? how she was nurse maid to elayne, morgase AND morgases mother, as well as fully believing that she will be nurse maid to elaynes children? there are a few of those "been around for four or five generations and never slowed a bit" characters in the series. excluding forsaken, since they were sealed up during that time, the options to me are wilders, original aes sedai,(from before the oath rod), or aesedai in hiding, for instance whil far fetched, cadsuane appears exactly at the same time that lini and morgase escape the seanchan in the fortress of light, not saying that is who she is, but some slight possibility…

  28. this is a question me and my buddies have been asking each other for years now. i am thinking yes. i think that is why he and rand share a body while others respun do not. the reason im asking opinion is because of another post i saw here about rand and fein/mordeth. i think that he also "shares" a body for a similar reason where the original could not be respun persay but the thread was strong enough to carry influence. i think either that or morraine has something to do with the three that must become one.

Particularly in the early books, there's a lot of mistrust on his part towards all Aes Sedai, especially her. I can't really think of anything particularly devious that she has done to him. Is it just the AS reputation?

  30. If the Horn of Valere is blown now (by Mat, unless his link has been broken) then what will happen? Lots of questions. We know Gaidal Cain has been reborn. We know Birgette is back in the world. Do we know if any of the others have been reborn? It seems like if they have, they're probably just kids, so their heroics must happen after the Final Battle has been fought. If all the heroes are back in Randland in the flesh, will nothing happen? Are the heroes too much of a wild card, since the power cannot affect them, so Robert Jordan set it up so they can only be called once, and Mat blew it? Shouldn't the Wheel have spun these heroes out earlier…
