Hope I'm not annoying anyone by posting about each book i'm reading. I did skip about 3books tho...anyways. Just into the prologue so far, finished Book9 2days ago. Lots happening though. War with Seanchan, war within the Black AND White towers. War with the forsaken, altho they haven't yet mentioned their status after the clensing of saiden. Nor did Logain or anyone mention the clean Saidin now, so the prologue's diologue was maybe prior to the clensing, or much after when it wasn't such a big deal? Anyways, I like Logain...i hate Taim. I hope they battle eachother for the right to be Rand's 2nd. =) More to come.

it's been a while since i read this particular part but if i remember it correctly, in the beginning of TPoD the Atha'an Miere are arguing with the Kin women and calls them "fish-loving scavengers" and Elayne thinks about how she expected them to eat fish all the time. this confuses me. they live on ships most of their lives, so fish should be a big part of their diet, right? i just don't understand how they can possibly use a phrase for eating fish as an insult?

  3. G'day all. I'm very much excitedly anticipating my first reread of what is undoubtedly the best fantasy series ever written! Without realising the sheer immensity and complexity of the series as a whole, I, like many people, jumped head first into the books, and during my first read of the series passed over many a detail without notice. My question is this: Any little bits and pieces I should keep my eye out for? I know there's literally hundreds, but any little nuances or hard to see tidbits for a noob like myself will help me along a great way! I'm particularly looking forward to books 4-6 which according to

I was rereading part of TGS yesterday, and I came across this: I'm sure that this will and should be analyzed in many quarters to see if LTT gave something away to the reader, here... some sort of clue. Here is an interesting intersection that occurs to me... with all the focus given in Rand's development to know what strength truly is, doesn't that last line really stand out? Rand has focused on being harder and harder, thinking that *that* was strength. At the end of the book, he has his epiphany and we maybe have a return of light Luke Skywalker Rand. So maybe Rand's learning about strength is the difference. Maybe instead of some power, he will …

  5. Hey everyone, I just received some coupons for Barnes & Noble. On the site it lists it as a first edition paperback http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?r=1&cm_mmc=Non-Member-_-This_Week-_-100406_NH01_ThisWeek-_-personalized_links&ean=9780765323804 Well, I own the hardback. And I know I have seen the paperback released sometime later (c.2005). So what exactly is this the first edition of? I like to collect RJ first editions- even postmortem. Just curious if this is really something new or a mess-up by B&N.

  6. Hello everyone, I'm looking for a specific quote from Thom, when he is in some city (I don't remember which one) and sees an acting troop. He compares acting and storytelling. I apologize for the vagueness of this, its been a while since I read the books, and my copies are all in temporary storage. Does anyone know the exact quote? Thanks

I've done several re-reads and I'm on yet another, but I'm still pretty new to the forums, so I was just reading some old posts, and while reeading one about Bashere being a DF, someone said Tuon(aka Semirhage). Did I miss something, or is this the common belief these days?

  9. Hi All. Love the Forums. This is my first post. I was re-reading Winter's Heart, and something piqued my interest (again) in Chapter 14, "What a Veil Hides." Tuon is reviewing her sul'dam and damane, and she lingers on one in particular, Mylen, as she reflects on her foolish wish to be sul'dam. "The pale little damane had been half dead with shock and fear, refusing to eat or drink, when Tuon bought her on the docks at Shon Kifar....Mylen was a perfect damane. It was true, no one would believe now that once she had called herself Aes Sedai." When I first read this, I thought, "Mylen is Moiraine," and although we all are sure that Moiraine is in the Tower o…

When Rand was brawling with Asmodean in Rhuidean for the Crystal Sphere statuette during The Shadow Rising, there was a ter'angreal that was described along with the Twisted Red Doorframe. It was a naked woman holding a child to her breast. Does anyone know anything about this? It seems important, or why not just leave it out? But I don't remember it being mentioned before or since. But Lanfear did mention there were 3 Sa'angreal more powerful than Callandor..., two of which are the Crystal Sphere Statuettes.

So I emailed Maria Simmons about the MAFO's and she was kind enough to get back to me. So here they are. MAFO #1 - At the darkfriend social, Carridin is given orders by Ishamael that he can’t remember. Later on in Ebou Dar, he sees Mat out the window and he sort of goes into a trance, sees more imagery, and when he snaps out of it, time is stopped and Sammael is in the room. How did this happen? Was Sammael paged somehow when Carridin’s orders were triggered? Maria's Answer #1 - No, Sammael was not paged. Sammael had sent Carridin to Ebou Dar to find the cache of Power goodies. The notes say that Sammael became aware that there were other parties engaged in…

Hello everyone, I'm new to WOT and I'm up to "The Path of Daggers" book. I never read a book where I really disliked the main character until now. Rand was fine in the beginning of the series but now I feel like he acts like a tyrant most of the time and I pretty much hate him and the way he treats everyone around him, even his friends. I think my dislike for him started in "The Dragon Reborn" and I am really hoping Cadsuane changes him back but I really don't look forward to reading his POV anymore. I thinks its because Rand pretty much overthrows the people in each kingdom and bullies them to support him or they can pretty much die if they don't. I get the impressi…

do we know Aproxamintly how many Aes Sedai are there (before TGS)? I know that after the troubles, it was mentioned that the tower split itself roughtly in 1/3. 1/3 for elida, 1/3 in salidar and 1/3 holding itself aside. I only mention that so if there was a number mentioned in any of the groups then we could estimate from that. Trying to do some calculations here (post TGS).

If this is the wrong forum for this I apologize. Did anyone else pick this comic up - it came out this week if you didn't know? If so what did you think? Its basically the first chapter or two of Eye of the World though told slightly out of order and with a whole new intro set when Rand would be about 10 yrs old. The Lews Therin part of the story occurs midway through the comic. The comic ends not long after Rand and Mat first meet Moraine. The art is pretty good and other than the changes the I mentioned the story is very faithful to book. My only complaint is that the pace is obviously going to be very slow meaning that at $3.99 a comic i…

I've never read a trolloc description as being female. I don't know/think they could breed from kidnapped human women. So what do you think? Trolloc women stay in the blight and raise the little 'loclings while the men are out doing the great lord's works?

We had a classic rock station playing on the radio. An old song came on called Wheel in the Sky. It goes like "wheel in the sky keeps on turning..." I was singing along kind of to my self when I suddenly realized what I was saying..."Wheel of Time keeps on turning..." I then Laughed Out Loud. :D That's all, you may now return to your regularly scheduled forum browsing. ;D

I did a google image search for Mirrored stand lamp. Evidently these things are EVERYWHERE in Randland. I think there are more of them than Nynaeve's hair tugs or the collected skirt smoothings of all Aes Sedai.

  21. It seems that Post-TGS, (especiall Post-Veins of Gold), the overriding opinion is that LTT was never a 'real' reincarnation of Lews Therin in Rand's head. I am still not sure I by this. One thing I have never seen addressed about this is: If LTT was NOT ever 'real' as Rand , then ... WHY does Lanfear address Rand AS ''Lews Therin'' time and again, and why does Hawkwing, at Falme, look DIRECTLY at Rand and say ''It was always women that got you in trouble, LEWS THERIN.'' ??? Fish

The question says it all. Whats your fave book title and why? My fave is The Gathering Storm. I thought this was a great title for the book because it not only signifies the approach of Tarmon Gaidan (spelling?) but also the growing madness going on in Rand's head leading up to the point on Dragonmount where he could have destroyed everything but didn't and we see the clouds above Dragonmount disperse signifying an end to Rand's madness and at least one of the dangers facing the world.

The last I remember was he was with the Salidar Aes Sedia helping Bryne train the horse soldiers but can't remember him being with them when they go to Tar Valon. He is a great minor character and he seems to have been forgotten, although maybe he will show up in the next book I hope.

So I have been rereading the series and trying to put it in my mind more coherently. I just finished the chapter in PoD where Egwene - after meeting with Andoran and Murandian nobles - declares war on Elaida. I have never liked Egwene, but I found some respect for her after TGS. Now, rereading this chapter, it has increased. The respect I mean. That chapter and the whole incident drags on, but man, it is powerful. What a shift of power and (even though I still think of her highly manipulative), amazing work by Egwene.

Greetings, all. Having all kinds of fun? Oh, I hope so. Anyways, I am mostly a science fiction fan, but I read plenty of fantasy, as well. People have been ranting at me to read this series for a while, but they always informed me that it was still being made. I hate having to wait around for some author, so I always told them that I would wait for it to finish. I was just recently informed that the twelfth book has been finished, and only twelve were in the works, so I picked up the first three from the library, yesterday. I'm somewhere in the middle of the first one, at the moment. The male who just found out that he can be creepily telepathic with wolves and th…

Very simple question, what does the Dark One need to win? What does God need with a starship? Sorry, wrong universe. Back to the point... We know what the DO would do if he were to win. We know that in the past the champion of the light has gone over to the shadow, so that alone cannot be what the DO needs... else he wouldn't be trapped anymore. So what is the DO's game? It seems he has been maneuvering for this particular Turning of the Wheel for several Ages now... maybe even several Turnings of the Wheel... to get the dominoes aligned just so. What is he missing?
