Ok, everyone knows that RJ based alot of the story on the legends of king arthur. But to what extent? In the Arthurian legends, Mordred(arthur's nephew) Kills Arthur in order to ascend to the thrown. The only name that closely matches Mordred in WOT is Mordeth. Does this mean Fain will kill Rand?

When the white cloaks were in the two rivers, and fain had a fade chained in this tent, and was threatening it, the fade agreed to do as fain wanted.. fain settled down to talk of plans and what not, but that fade is never mentioned again as far as i know. It has to be the fade named shaidar haran. remember the stones board and "It's hard to lose when you play both sides of the board" I think that through shaidar haran, fain has taken control of the forsaken. Thoughts?

Since Shadar Logoth was destroyed, fain's power must be dieing. what strength can he have without his power from that cursed city. After all Moraine called him "Worse than a darkfriend." this happened after he entered Shadar Logoth and the taint on his soul, from the darkone, the evil of madashar, and the power of the blck wind came into him. so now that one of those three tings is gone what will become of the powerful darkfriend?

So there is apparently a word limit to Dragonmount posts--figures I'd be the one to discover this. As with the other thread all thanks and congrats go to those that actually transcribed the information--both Storm Leader and lovely fans. Special thanks to Terez for directing me to many of the non-DM Q&A reports. Please keep all discussion the existing Q&A discussion thread. This is only a compilation. Thats mostly because this probably won't stay around forever. What's in this section? Questions and Answers on the following subjects are in this section of the Compilation. • Rand’s Sword • Characters • The Big Unnoticed Thing in Book 4-6 [Dire…

What was it that hooked you with this series? Did you read through The Eye of the World before deciding to keep with it or did you know early on? Did it grab you or sneak up on you? I think the prologue of EOTW was enough for me. I don't know that I could have guessed what I was getting into but I'm glad I did. The intensity of that first scene was it for me. I have actually recommended to people that want to start reading the series with New Spring to read that opening first. I think it really sets the tone for the entire series. Anyway, just curious how you all ended up being WOT people.

Another topic got me thinking on this. According to RJ, the fade we saw in the prologue of tGH was not Shaidar Haran himself, but instead "Version 0.5" and that the DO doesn't get it spot on right the first time every time. http://13depository.blogspot.com/2009/03/tor-questions-of-week.html Now I'm curious whether or not V 0.5 is still around, playing second fiddle to SH, are there other inferior versions of SH, or did the DO simply download a software patch and upgrade V 0.5 into V 1.0. If in fact the Great Hunt superfade we met still exists, what are the chances of him showing up again in the last two books? Or other inferior versions of superfades?

Doesn't it say somewhere that Myrddraal don't smile? The reason I ask is this...in Book 1 when everyone is in Baerlon, Rand meets a Myrddraal downstairs after going to get some milk and.... (The fade glided closer, in no hurry. It's stride had a sinuous, deadly grace, like a viper, the resemblance emphasized by the overlapping black plates of armor down it's chest. Thin, bloodless lips curved in a cruel smile, made more mocking by the smooth, pale skin where eyes should have been. The voice made Bornhald's seem warm and soft. "Where are the others? I know they are here. Speak, boy, and I will let you live.")

What does it actually look like? At first I was imagining some sort of normal citadel, but on a huge scale. But now I'm thinking as a sort of giant, smooth dome of sorts with like openings to shoot from and maybe some large gates/smaller entrances. Does anyone have an accurate image of it in their head?

How many Aes Sedai thought Cadsuane was dead? Aes Sedai. Those who can only speak what they know to be true. If I were Aes Sedai, and I thought that a person were dead, then I would be able to tell them to their face "I thought you were dead." If the general consensus was that Cadsuane must be dead, that might cover it. Or... If Cadsuane had previously used a well known alias. Well known enough that she was accepted by either name by her sisters. If that alias died, and someone saw Cadsuane they could say to her "I thought you were dead". Cadsuane is a crafty person. She is very skilled at exercising her plans in her own way. Complication is…

I searched for this topic because I was sure that it had been discussed many times before but I'm not finding it so I'm posting out of frustration. Please indulge a feeble old brain. Thanks. After the Moraine/Lanfear battle, what happened to all of the Age of Legends relics that were in the wagon train? I have guesses. That's not what I seek. If you know for sure, please let me know. Thank you. Love, Gramps

I've read through the series a few times, but I'm still wondering on somethings. Feel free to post your opinion if their is no official answer. 1)Do we ever find out what Aginors' "worms" turn into? 2)In what book do Elayne/Avi unweave the gateways? 3)Who did Tam defeat to get his power-made sword? 4)Removed. Spoilers. 5)Who did Cadsuane get all her angreal and whatnot from? 6)Who is Noal, I've heard everything; Farstrider, that one king, or Mat come from the future. 7)Is Bela really the creator? Of course I wonder on many other things, but these are the ones that came to mind.

We should PROBABLY keep the list of conteneders for the title of ''Mr Top GeneraL Guy of The Forces of Light and Team Rand at Tarmon Gai'dan and The Last Battle Deal and All That Stuff'' to the Great Captains...though we sure do NOT have to!!! ... Perrin anyone??? ... Oh, and also, you know, LIVING people. LOL! Who has the best RESUME??? 1 Pedron Niall ...Oh, wait, hes Toast lol! Thats right...but man, ironic as it may have been, I think the Ol Boy may well have been able to get the job done. 2 Gareth Bryne - He certainly has the rep and did very well helping out the rebels, but, I have a feeling that Last Battle is going to be a bit more to chew on that a…

A weird question I know but... If one were to sail westward, past Seanchan would one end up in the Aiel waste or at Shara? Or are there other bodies of land in this world. Or, if you were to sail south, past tremalking, would there be land? Maybe a south pole or something? It seems odd that this world is a pangea-like world. Could there not be other lands, or maybe islands, that hold people scattered from The Breaking? Maybe there is a remote island where the knowledge of the Age of Legends has been preserved, either by word of mouth passed down generation to generation, or by some long lost library of some sort. Maybe there is another continent that h…

Ok I might be really confused and mixed some stuff together but Balefire got me thinking yesterday. Everyone is reborn in the pattern as somebody else, even normal people, if these souls are finite I dont know but I will assume they are. When someone is balefired a part of their thread will be removed from the pattern, the latter part of that thread, they stop existing suddenly at one point. Now as the wheel turn and that same age begin, the age when that person was balefired. Is that person reborn since this is a new turn for the wheel? The balefire hasnt happend "yet". But when that time comes again when that person was balefire it will simply cease to exist, just…

What scenes did you see in your head that played out completely differently than you expected? And I'm talking about more than, "I thought he would have more reaction to learning that his father was an enchanted ferret. Pity." For instance, here's one... The Faile-As-Shaido-Prisoner fiasco story... how many times were we told that blacksmiths hold a special place for Aiel? And that they cannot be taken gai'shain? How much foreshadowing was given to the question of Perrin's axe or his hammer? It seemed quite clear to me that after chasing down and hunting the Shaido who had taken Faile, Perrin, who just couldn't take anymore large scale death after Duma…

So I just finished re-reading the cleansing of the taint at the end of WH. It is stated that Nynaeve with the CK can channel more than all the sisters in the White Tower. Assuming that Rand can channel even more saidin that Nynaeve can saidar, is it commonly accepted that Rand will reseal the bore with the use of them. If the bore is resealed of course. And another thing.....thoughts on something that has always bothered me. With the immense strength that Rand has through use of the Choedan Kal, why has he never used it up to this point. He has had them since tSR. The only weakness of the CK is that any channeller will be able to sense where you are, but with t…

I wanna know some ideas for prequels/spinoff books that everyone has. The two I wanna see are kinda obvious, A Tam al'Thor story(How he became a Blademaster and met his wife. The other is one about the Dragon, before the breaking. Haven't you guys ever wondered EXACTLY how he pissed Lanfear off so much that she turned evil? lol

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed already, but the search function did not yeild anything... I don't mean to ask what is rumored to be written, but rather what stories would you most be interested in? This could be anything from an Age of Legends Trilogy detailing the drilling of the Bore and the War that followed, to a single volume story like one telling Tam Al'Thor's story or that of Tigraine Mantear/Shaiel... perhaps even concurrent novels like the REAL story of Jaim Farstrider or Cadsuane Melaidhrin? Even the same events we have already read, but from new perspectives like Moraine's story leading up to her trip to Rhuidean and all that came after... …

I wonder if James Cameron has read the Wheel of Time books or if he and Robert Jordan just lifted it from the same place. Do any real tribal cultures use that exact greeting?

This thread is to discuss the shape of the world in the "Wheel of Time" series. About the poll:: By round, I refer to travel (walk, swim, fly, etc) in either direction without passing an edge. By flat, I refer to there being a boundary in either direction. With both, one axis takes one of those descriptions and the other axis takes the other description. With neither, someone could probably imply some sort of imaginary shape. Whichever your decision, use the books and Robert Jordan talks as support.

Brandon said... ... and I'm glad to hear it too. This makes something that has always bugged me make sense. That being, its said that using the One Power on cuendillar makes it stronger, but cuendillar was supposed to be unbreakable--how do you make something which is unbreakable any stronger. The answer--using the One Power must make cuendillar more resistant to this other method of destroying it, and the Age of Legenders must have been aware of this. So, any thoughts on what this other method is?

I am fairly new to the seires, and in the middle of The Fires of Heaven. Fain was just introduced again and I am so confused...what is he??!! First he's a dark friend then he gets the dagger and changes some how, then he changes his name like a million times. I thought he was just a darkfriend but he mentioned in this book that he was more because he went to Shayol Ghul. Is he working with The Dark One or is he on his own??? Oh and please do not tell me anything past book five or nothing in book five. I'm just confused about whats happened to him, i don't want to know what he's going to do, last i remember her was a pedler, then a darkfriend, then working with the w…

*********SPOILER ALERT********* I finished The Gathering Storm yesterday after a second re-read of the entire series and I've come to some final conclusions about tWoT series that I'd like to share. In my opinion, although TGS was quite good, it arrived too late in the series. Lord of Chaos is in my opinion where the series begins to run aground. The pace of the story deteriorates. Action is replaced by character focus and as a result the series suffers. During this period Mat, Perrin and Egwene become locked into situational patterns which in my opinion didn't make for very good reading and don't make a valid contribution to the series as a whole considering th…

Finally, through no efforts of my own, my sister has just started reading WoT. We couldn't be more opposite if we tried, so this has presented a rare opportunity to talk about something civilly. Well, a few days ago she mentions to me how annoying it is that Rand keeps looking behind him hoping to see Thom. It's so very obvious that Thom is dead. Duh. I couldn't stop myself from grinning once I understood what she meant. Which of course gave it away. (Right now she's worried that this is borrowing too much from LOTR.) Then last night, we're talking about Mat. She wants to know if Mat is going crazy under the pressure of if there's something wonky going on w…

Does anybody else find that nearly the entire series' cover art sucks?! Almost none of the characters appear as they should and in most of them, Rand looks like he's 40-something. It's so frustrating...the UK at least gets some nice simple cover art. Although I've seen the ebook covers, and I really like them! But gah, I know this is becoming a rant, but the book covers are terrible. I think I'm going to make my own covers and re-bind my set. Again, sorry for my rant, but I have to know if anyone else is as frustrated by these bad covers... Also, I must say to the artist that I'm sorry, but please...no more...
