This goes for both the Accepted and full shawl (Aes Sedai) tests. Ok...I don't know if this has been discussed, but I thought of it while reading Moiraine's test for the shawl. Where do they get sent during the tests?!?! Is it TAR, another reality, or a vacuole? We know if you get injured in TAR, you come out with those injuries, but this not always the case in the testing. We don't know much about the vacuoles, but I believe it was stated that the first person to arrive gets to choose the setting. Can they constantly be changed? Or is it something like where the portal stones send you? Another world? All of these are feasible explanation…

These are just some thoughts I have on Rand, Mat, and Perrin as relatable characters, and is quite open for discussion. I find Mat and Perrin are much more relatable as real people than Rand for several reasons. While Mat and Perrin are very skilled in battle and dealing with people, etc., they are quite human emotionally. Rand however, goes through much more trauma than most people; for instance, I've never been stuck in a box and only let out to be beat for weeks. In my opinion, few people have ever dealt with as many problems on a level that Rand has, nor have had the whole world resting on their shoulders. This is not to say that Rand is not a great character, an…

  3. Dumai's Wells was certainly a good indicator, but, for me: Berelain's nose wrinkled in distaste. ''Oh, thats Mordeth, a companion of the camp.'' Rand's hand clenched his wine glass. ''Mordeth? - His name is Padan Fain and there are One Million Dollars on his Head!'' The First of Mayne gasped in shock.''QUEENS have been ransomed for less!!! Why you be so Pi$$ed at him???!'' The wine glass went chrunch. ''He hunted my friends BECAUSE they were my firends. He scourged my home BECAUSE it was my home. He is a Traitor - and a Dead Man!'' ... Ok, I know that is a BIG paraphrase lol - I don't have my book (ACOS) with me...but it it one of my very fave sce…

  6. NOTE: this excludes Moraine, she does concede to being his advisor rather than his puppetier. They strut around expecting everyone in the world to respect them because they can tap the OP. They show little to no respect to anyone else including their own. when did they earn the respect that they feel they so rightly deserve? They show rand absolutely no respect, as if he isnt the one who will martyr himself to save all of their behinds. If I were Rand, when Min told me that 7 were coming to the palace in camelyn as opposed to the 3 I said were allowed, I would have jumped to the stone and grabbed callandor. they would have tried to run in terror when they sa…

  7. Started by Rinkai,

I'm doing a re-read of new spring, and something caught my attention. In the chapter where Siuan and mMoirane first get become AS, Suian gets her only POV. To some it up, One AS calls Moirane a pretty porcelain doll. Siuan makes a mental note that Moirane isn't just a pretty porcelain doll, but a beautiful one. Then: "Siuan could have kissed her (Moirane). In fact, she did." It might be a stretch but there seems to be some affection beyond friendship in this chapter. I think RJs description of sexual things is usually understated. And this is almost as blatant as he would go. -Rin

I can't be the first person to notice this, but I think it's interesting that the two parts of Rand's body that were seriously injured in Semirhage's attack were body parts that are also associated with his two best friends and fellow taveren. I think the symbolic meaning is that Rand will, in a way, be made whole again when Mat and Perrin rejoin him, presumably before the last battle. And I think it would be cool if the names actually foreshadowed Rand's method of dealing with the disabilities, by channeling the power to his eyes to correct his vision and even create a flaming left hand, similar to the flaming sword he channeled in the earlier books. I don…

  9. But when does the next book come out? I'm new to the Jordan series.. I just picked up the books a few months back. Well, I'm caught up and cannot wait for more. How long before the new book comes out? And yes, I looked for the answer elsewhere, but apparently I didn't find it.

We have had a lot of examples of men going insane from the taint. In fact in the WOT we had some explicit examples of what types of insanity and in what stages of training. One guy went nuts just two weeks after he came to the black tower I believe. One man thinking bugs are crawling over him (don't remember if Taim killed him or he set himself on fire). A young man with the mind of a toddler. Plus plenty of examples of men going into uncontrollable rages. Yet none not even rand has been seen with the other so called affect of a rotting body. Rands wounds don't count nor do his visons IMO. The wounds are not caused by the taint but by another channeler and Fains dag…

I haven't read any Wheel of Time since Knife of Dreams came out, and now that I have Gathering Storm I need a recap. Where can I find a recap that will put me up to date before I start The Gathering Storm? I used to follow every theory, and was as well versed as anyone in these books. Now I'm having a hard time remembering who some of these characters are - "Is she, Black Ajah, or not? Wait, was she a Forsaken?...."

Hi guys, For the past four WoT novels, I've had the privilege of being the first one to review it. Most likely, this trend will continue for the last two novels as well. While I realize I am closely tied to the Harriet, Brandon, and Tor, I sincerely try to do my best to review the book from an impartial POV. For that reason, I'd like to know how I did. Here's the link to my TGS review. If, and ONLY if, you have read the entire book, please vote on the poll above to let me know how you think I did. Also, comments welcome, but keep it polite. I'm open to feedback in the interest of writing a fair review for TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT and A MEMORY OF LIGHT whe…

We all know that stedding don't allow the TS to be touched or channled, not even sensed. What is confusing me is that in The Great Hunt, when Rand & Co. go to Stedding Tsofu they bring out 'Trayal' to show the group what happens if Machin Shin gets them. The bit i'm confused about is this. "Trayal was one of the last among us to go along the Ways," Alar said softly. "He came out as you see him. Will you touch him, Verin?" Verin gave her a long look, then rose and strode to Trayal. He did not move as she laid her hands on his wide chest, not even a flicker of an eye to acknowledge her touch. With a sharp hiss, she jreked back, staring up at him, then whirled …

There's probably others that are potential favourites, and I know Niall is dead, but meh. Comments or additions? Maybe its just because of how fresh The Gathering Storm is in my mind, but due to his tactics against the Seanchan, Ituralde is my favourite. Mat's a pretty kickass captain too though.

Hey, I haven't been around for a while, I was re-reading everything before I started TGS and I didn't want to risk seeing something about TGS that I didn't want to. A question occurred to me though and I said I'd post it to see if anybody had any opinions about it (or if it's been answered before!) Hypothetically (I can't see the situation happening otherwise ;D), If an Aes Sedai bound by the 3 oaths promised/swore to do 'something' immediatly and while they are going about doing it circumstances change and they no longer wish to do 'whatever it is', are they still bound to do the task to avoid a lying scenario? ie do the oaths force them to complete whatever they sw…

Does this bother anybody else? Every time I read through Winter's Heart, this jumps out at me. Min's viewing concerning Aviendha's children is hugely important, but she doesn't tell Rand about it. Why is it so important exactly? Well, so long as Rand and Avi keep themselves from doing the deed again, Rand can't die. Or quite possibly, TG simply can't happen. Aviendha HAS to become pregnant with Rand's children before he dies, or so Min's viewing predicts. Is Min really too stupid to see the significance of that? She seems like one smart cookie to me... Side Note: Theoretically, since Balefire alters the pattern, couldn't it prevent one of Min's viewi…

I am 3/4 of the way done with the 3rd book, re-reading all the books before jumping into the new.. Just posting because it is miffing me the way all the 2 rivers folk are down on Morraine. She saves their lives so many times, and they all want to be as far from her as possible. I just finished the part where Morraine burned away 11 dark hounds with Bale Fire on their way out of Illian. Perrin mutters -'Burn you Morraine.. will get some answers yet.' It is annoying how all these folk can be so upset with her, when she continues to save their skins. Anyone else recall being this miffed with them. Had it been me, I would have been grateful. Not to mention Nynaeve…

I have a question regarding the 3 Oaths and A'dam. The 3 Oaths compell the Aes Sedai who swears them to do the following: 1 To speak no lie 2 To forge no weapon with the One Power 3 Not to use the One Power as a weapon except against Shadowspawn, or to defend your own life, the life of her warder or another Aes Sedai. In The Shadow Rising (Ch 1) it is made clear that Aes Sedai leashed with an A'dam cannot be compelled to lie - the Oath still constrains them despite the Suldam attempting to coerce them to do so. The Oath physically prevents the (former) Aes Sedai from lying. My question is as follows - if an Aes Sedai is captured by the Seanchan an…

  24. I know there are a few - a VERY few - examples of Forsaken using *greal, but by and large it seems to me that they are woefully underutilized by the Forsaken in general. The Dragon Reborn carries around everything from the 'fat little man with the sword' to the Choeden Kal. Ruidean and the White Tower and the Stone of Tear and any number of other places the Forsaken had access to either directly or through agents held enormous stores of such objects, objects which they would know the purpose and use of far better than anyone else... Is it a mark of Forsaken arrogance that they aren't ALL at least carrying around a personal angreal by now, or is it just a plot device …

Whatever happened to this? I don't seem to remember anything beyond the rumours being spread by Siuan and the Salidar Aes Sedai prior to the Ebou Dar arc. Did Egwene find out that Siuan was telling a lie?

  26. Who is the source of the voice, inside of Rand's head, that says: Has RJ revealed this in an interview or did he give a RAFO?

  27. For me it has been: 1 Lanfear...She is remarkable because she is the only one of the 13 with a unique motivation...all the other 12 did so, and do so, for Power. Lanfear has never cared about Power...The Daughter of The Night has done all she has for Love (twisted and obsessive as that 'Love' may be.) 2 Messana ... she was very boring ino until she started getting repeatedly YOUKNOWWHATED by SH. She may be a Chosen, but she is still a woman...seeing her try to rebound from these brutal violations has been interesting (though it probably should have been touched upon a bit more.) 3 Demandred...mainly because he lacks (except for wanting power) any real motiv…

Is the amount of power that may be used when using a specific angreal or sa'angreal the same no matter who is using it, or does it depend on the intrinsic strength of the channeler? More specifically, imagine if you will two channelers, one stronger than the other. The strength of the first would rate 11 and the second would rate a 7. The first one gets an angreal and, while using it, rates a 30. Would the second also rate a 30 or just a 26 because he/she is 4 points weaker to begin with? I would think it does matter on the strength of the channeler, but then how can we explain Rand and Asmodean's struggle with the super sa'angreal--they were dead even unti…

  29. Well, this is a Spin-Off Topic/Thread from something I read in a Thread by ''Unassigned'' where he talks about Elayne Trakand and it made me fondly thing about how her parts in the later books are ones I like mainly because they gives us exposure to Elayne's Adviser named Dylin Damodred and Dylin is one of my Fave 'Side-Characters'!!! ... She has a Dry Personality but I think shes cool and she ALWAYS gives Elayne really Good Advice. ... It made think about the ''Adviser-Role'' certain characters play and how I think ALL of them are great. I can't remember an Adviser ever giving bad advice lol!!! ...... Lets Look at Them .... I Will List Characters I Think Are Intende…
