Why on earth would Elaida want Moiraine/Siuan to pass the test she would go to such lengths? Did she have the hots for Moiraine? Maybe she wanted them to feel a sense of gratitude after they pass, but for why? Just doesn't fit in with "Elaida".

Alright. I'm re-reading the fool books for the second time, and while reading I came across something that has annoyed me before, and continues to do so. I'm sure everyone is acquainted with Lini, and her "brilliant" sayings. Now is it just me or are her sayings kind of...uhh foolish... weak.. bad? Here's an example: "Dragging feet never finish a journey." Now, I don't find anything brilliant about this... do you? O.o It's the equivalence of me saying "Attacking a bear gets you killed." Of course, there are many more of these "sayings" that if not surrounded by quotation marks, would just be ordinary sentences. Please do share your foolish though…

First time reading the series and I’m really enjoying it just finished the great hunt. have a question about the ending don’t know if I’m dense or because I finished it at 9 am after reading all night, but what was up with the whole fight in the sky? when I read it and the most enveloped the battle field, rand and his squad were firmly on the ground, like how Perrin ran off and got a branch. I just read it as he was fighting with furnace eyes on the ground with like a heightened connected sense to everyone, where were the clue they were in the sky ? Did I miss all of them? Please tell me I’m not stupid.

I realize this is a WoT only forum so it might seem weird to bring up Harry Potter... If igure figure I already brought up Game of Thrones in some other thread.... and I'm still here which mens means its at least ok.... Um, so really I actually read Wheel of Time before Harry Potter virtually certain as a matter of fact.... and quite enjoy it.... Then harry Potter comes along and is like this massive revelation/ginormous explosion of everything.... and by the time the fervor died down it's been hard to get many other series in the spto spotlight.... Just the other day though.. for sone reason or another while reading pa…

I'm in the middle of my re-read of KoD and (as painful as it is) I'm reading Elayne's chapters and asking myself, why she woulden't use the power to defend her position, (or her warder). Simply, this close to TG wouldn't it be in the best interest of all if she secured the rule of Andor (or even just Caemlyn) quickly and decisively. Now I'm not saying she should use the one power as a weapon, and annihilate the contenders for the throne, but use some "Aes Sedai" intimidation. Flex the muscle a little bit and stop politicing so much. Fear is a great motivatior espicially for the mercenaries that seem to be figting on both side of the conflict. The ones that are on her…

So I'm rereading along with Brandon, and the part where Sahra is questioned about Min in the Tower, obviously to start the booting of Siuan, and ends up getting killed. WoT Enyclopedia says it was a Black Ajah member, do we ever find out who it was? Any quotes or anything? Or just a mystery? I totally forgot this scene.

So Mats situation at the moment: At the end of ToM he was chilling out by the river with plans to head to the White Tower (told Joline(?) that he had something he needed to collect), Caemlyn (to pick up the Band. We don't know if he makes it back to Caemlyn, but I assume he did (and from there to FoM) and decided to head to Ebou Dar, to visit Tuon instead (maybe as a result of Avis vision?). Tuon is currently planning a second strike on the Tower, it's possible that Mat will manage to dissuade her of this. Against this Egs vision had 2 ravens flying past, and the Tower apparantly split and divided - it's been speculated that this means 2 attacks and that the se…

I never thought about this until recent events outlined in the last book but the impression given in previous books were that The Travels of Jain Farstrider was a book written close to a hundred years previously. to the best of my knowledge he is not bound to the horn and he is not a channeler that ive ever seen hinted at but he has talked of malkier as if he was there and other things which led me to think he must be very very old. im currently rereading the series in the hopes that i will find an answer but thought i would ask and see if anyone else had noticed this. also if memory serves he speaks to mat of jain as a distant long since dead relative at some point i…

It seems that Jordan wants to write strong, resilient woman but I'm not sure he knows how. Instead of capable and discerning, most of the women come across as petty and stubborn. In my experience, women can be "cattier" but we certainly aren't as petty or ridiculous as Jordan portrays. It's very insulting and irritating that the women are constantly bungling and stumbling about. Their advancement seems to be a matter of luck and happenstance as opposed to purpose. It makes me wonder about Jordan's relationship with women. Whenever I'm in a coed meeting, I find the women much more reasonable and willing to compromise and communicate.

Are Warder's cloaks ter'angreal ? Are they some form of streith? Has this ever been explained? Cos if the secret to making ter'angreal had been lost during the Third Age, where are the Aes Sedai getting the cloaks from?

Inspired by the "Praise for Egwene" thread: OK, so Faile is one of my favourite characters, she also seems to be one of the least popular major characters of the series. So, I thought those of us that do like her can share why we love her, and even those who aren't so keen could mention some redeeming features- if she has any in their eyes. So, for me, just off the top of my head... I like her bravery. Yes, early on, I think a lot of her behaviour was quite blustering, she wanted to be a hero, and adventurer, rather than live the political life her family was set up for. But she's definitely shown guts throughout the series. She keeps her head, by and large, d…

Hey I just concluded Book 6 which had a great finish and I am ploughing through 7 at the moment, want to know which books are the best and worst so I know what to expect coming up. My favourites so far . . . Eye of the World Dragon Reborn Shadow Rising Lord of Chaos The Great Hunt Fires of Heaven . . . in that order. I didn't like Fires of Heaven much . . .too many wagon rides . . . and there was no suspense as the characters were never in any real danger.

Hey folks! New to the forum, so... Hi! So, I started reading WoT about 19 years ago and stopped after The Dragon Reborn for reasons I can't remember. I few months ago I found the books in storage and decided to finally take on the task of re-reading and finishing the series. I'm currently near the end of Crown of Swords and noticed what I think might be a typo, but I'm not entirely sure. There's a cruddy tavern in Ebou Dar called the Rose of the Elbar that Mat frequents for [plot reasons]. Later, after a very touching scene, a character vomits up "the River Elbar." Now I checked earlier books, and I'm not crazy... every mention of …

I know most readers consider Perrin's rescue of Faile from the Shaido to be drawn out, boring and pointless. Many turned against Perrin (and Faile if they didn't already hate her previously) because of it. I certainly understand why people felt/feel that way since Jordan dragged it out over 4 books and many years. The pacing was frustrating even reading it after the series was complete, but it must have been infuriating for people who waited years between books only to see nothing resolved in the next one. That was Jordan's failure not Perrin's though. For Perrin the entire plotline from when he left Cairhien to when he arrived in Caemlyn took up only two months of t…

Obviously, this thread has major spoilers in it, all the way through to the end of the story, so if you haven't finished and you are one of those who believes in the commonly held mythology of the spoiler, please navigate away from this thread now, before you see something that you will think ruins your reading (or potentially viewing) experience. (Even still, I'll be using spoiler tags, just so the more sensitive readers don't pick up anything.) . . . . So, we all know that in the end it turned out that Verin Mathwin was a Black sister, and I'm pretty confident that probably 95% of the readers shouted out a Vader-li…

Now, let me preface this by saying I am in no way qualified to critique Robert Jordan or his mesmerizing ability to create and breathe life into an entire world, nor his ability as a story-teller... ...but as a fan, over the past few books especially (I'm about 1/3 of the way through tGS and taking my time), I've entertained the possibility that the books were kind of getting away from RJ. What I mean is they became so volumous because there was so much put in there that didn't seem germaine to the overall story and that is unfortunate because 1) it drew 'screen time' away from those that WERE important to the overall plot and 2) left a lot of loose ends that may ha…

I realise this topic may have already been discussed, but as I am new here I hope I will be forgiven. I always felt that Rand copped out of choosing only one of the three women in his life ( maybe it's the Aiel in him). For me it should have always been Min, she always had his back. When he was wrong she would tell him but not in a condescending way. Early on in the series she understood him and what he was going through. Unlike all the petty squabbling and jealousies directed toward him from Egwene and Co. Which brings me nicely onto Elayne. When Rand says without Elayne he would not have learned how to rule, I disagree with him. He was already surrounded …

Look, you probably can't walk up to Galad and convince him that all Whitecloaks are rabid dogs that need to be put down. But with Morgase he could without any equivocation of circumstances, just said "I was in the wilderness and I saw whitecloaks, I tried to hide and they pursued me until they found me (illegal behavior on their part in Andor) and they raised their lances and commanded me (an Andoran citizen) to exit at lance point. I killed them in self defense. They would have taken me without cause believing that I am DF, their command was behavior preliminary to arrest, their arrest would result in only one outcome that they would assume I am a DF. That conclusion on…

So last night, 2/26 on The Dusty Wheel, The Innkeeper had a segment called Raves/Rants, and yours truly had a Rant that has now gone "viral" w/ a new hashtag...#JusticeforMat Why?? Because The"SUPER GIRLS" Nyneave, Egwene, & Elayne have NOT Thanked Mat for saving their @$$es 3x over! Nyneave Maybe said thanks to Mat, but Elayne & ESPECIALLY EGWENE did not do it. In fact Egwene in all her Hawtyness & Hoititoiness hasn't even thanked ANY of the "Super Boys" for saving her over numerous occasions. Rand, went into Falme to save her (Yes, I know Nyneave actually removed the collar) but he went to save her! Mat, saved the girls from Tear, Perrin sav…

I've long believed this, but it only recently became aware to me that people havn't really considered this point. I don't know, maybe you have... anyway here are my thoughts. Firstly, in The Lord of Chaos chapter 22 Mat comes across a caravan of slaughtered Tinkers in Altara, and finds one having inscribed a message in his own blood... So, Jordan makes a big deal out of pointing out this might have been important, but no explanation as to why. And the question is, simply... Tell the Dragon Reborn... what? The answer, to my mind, is simply. Firstly, in the Lord of Chaos Prologue, Niall reigns in Carridan, and assigns him a new mission. …

I'm probably on my dozenth relisten (Audible) of the series and realize that as much as I love the series, I'm coming to hate most of the characters - particularly the women. I expect to dislike and hate the baddies but it applies equally to the light characters. There are like five characters I don't utterly despise - Rand, Mat, Moraine, Min and Verin. Let's start with the women. How can anyone like any of them or think them "strong" as if that word excuses their appalling personal characteristics. They are all shown as arrogant, shrewish, self centered, hypocritical, petty, vain, cruel bullies heavily into BDSM. Their base emotion towards everyone else seems to be cont…

This has been bothering me for years, probably more than anything else in the series. How did this happen? I understand that the Atha'an Miere are supposed to be great bargainers but suspension of disbelief only goes so far. Why did they have to give up anything? They should have been bargaining for how much the Atha'an Miere could offer for finding their long lost bowl of the winds for them. At the very least they could have just told them about it and they would have looked for it on their own without a bargain. It is not like they would not change the weather back if they found it themselves. How to the Atha'an Miere turn this around and make such ridicul…

I've been on loads of forum sites like this related too TWOT but no-one has ever mentioned one of the greatest scenes in the prologue to KOD where Galad fights Valda. In the paragraph just before they fight it reads "Galad was not distracted. Every creak of saddle leather was clear and distinct, every ringing stamp of hoof on paving stone. He could hear the flies buzzing ten feet away as though they were at his ear. He almost thought he could see the movements of their wings. He was one with the flies, with the courtyard, with the two men. They were all part of him, and he could not be distracted by himself" is it just me or is this not clear evidence that galad can chann…

I just finished reading the entire series for the first time and after an 11,000 page binge its difficult to just step away from the story. I can't he;p but speculate as to the fate of the surviving characters and the world itself after the defeat of the Dark Lord. While the leadership of almost all countries and factions either survived or had a clear successor, Illian being the only real question mark, there is much rebuilding to do and the threat of war with the Seanchan remains very real. Will Tuon stick to here agreements with Rand and/or Egwene? Will the black and White Towers find a away to coexist and what will be their new role (together or separately). I'm c…

So I've been thinking about the Flame of Tar Valon weave and what it's effects. We know that it and balefire are opposites. Well, if balefire destroys people before a particular moment, would it be logical to surmise that the flame might be able to create a person ahead of that particular moment? Could it transport them to a different age or even a different possibility.

In New Spring, several references are made to Lan having unnaturally good luck. Plus, there's an instance where the prince falls 50 feet from a balcony and only gets a few bruises. So I'm wondering if Lan himself is ta'veren or if Rand's ta'vereness is so strong that it starts working on Lan before Rand is even born, just to make sure Lan is there to help Rand survive. I'm leaning toward the former, since Rand wouldn't have any effect on the falling kid. But even though Lan is ta'veren, he's just overshadowed by Rand, Mat and Perrin.
