Unnecessary characters...

Jordan got lost in a world of his own making.  I kind of doubt the story would have ever finished if he had lived because he would have just kept adding characters and story lines that didn't really move the main plot forward.  It was interesting in its way, but had to be extremely frustrating for readers who waited years between books only to discover the next book didn't resolve anything.  It was mildly irritating to me, reading it after the series was finished,  but I imagine it was infuriating to people who were reading it as it progressed.  I think most of the Perrin-Faile hate  is displaced anger by people who couldn't bring themselves to hate on the author.
