Robert Jordan stated that one of his influences for the workings of Time in the Wheel of Time was the idea behind Hindu/Buddhist beliefs that time is circular. He clearly portrayed this throughout the series, dead heroes coming back, the Dragon Reborn, and Ishamael talking of their countless fights throughout time. Now what I ask is this, if time is circular and this has happened before and will again, then why? Why tell this particular story out of all of them? Was RJ supporting the idea or is he in fact in his own way going to disprove Time being a wheel for his universe by perhaps this being the true "Last Battle"? I would like to think that the end would not just…

If you could pick a “WoT buddy” for the day based on personality who would it be? I prefer to hangout with guys, or girls that aren’t girly so birgitte or aviendha would be my choice. I could totally see avi playing football (soccer). I luuuuve football. ;D what about you guys? :)

What does that mean? I'm confused here. I can't remember much talk about inverting weaves. What does that do?

  4. Where does it come from? Everytime I re-read the series it seems he goes from having no clue what Min's vision in TEOTW about the crown means, to knowing that Faile is cousin to Queen of Saldea (TSR I think?) but still knowing nothing of the book, and then he rescues Faile in KOD and asks her about it, or maybe says they'll have to discuss it later and she seems slightly abashed. Maybe I just haven't noticed the part, but where in the books does he learn about it?? Is it from discussions with Tylee or Elyas perhaps?

  6. This is something that has always bothered me about Nynaeve, Elayne, and Egwene. They despise and absolutely hate the Seanchan for collaring women who can channel. YET, they don't even bat an eye at collaring Mogheiden. They can get around that hypocrisy because she is one of the Forsaken and deserves it. But the way the Seanchan are raised in their society to believe women who can channel are, in much the same way, as horrifiying as one of the Forsaken. Looking at it that way, the Seanchan are also justified in collaring women. It is very bothersome to see those three get all high and mighty about hating the Seanchan, but then go and do the exact same thing. I…

yea, the songs. like "dance with the jak of shadow and my personal favorite "wash the spears" how are they handled in the audio books? do they just read the lyrics like any other part of the books, or do they sing it? if sung, are the tunes considered canon?

  9. I was wondering about this last night. Who is the more deadly fighter out of Jon Shannow from David Gemmell and Lan Mandragoran from Robert Jordan? Taking into account their different worlds and weapons of course. Who would you least like to face? Both seem to have a similar lack of regard for their lives and are not afraid to die - in fact they seem to welcome the chance.

Near the end of Fires of Heaven, Moiraine and Lanfear fall through the Eelfinn doorway. Moiraine I think we can not be certain of until she returns. Her letter to Thom to me is not proof, the statement of her living I think is merely what she believes/believed not necessarily the truth. From what I read in the books (and from what I found out), the only possibilities of what happened to her would be these: -her being killed then resurrected -her being severed/stilled (with or without being Healed). Lanfear, her 3 wishes might have been these: -A different body -A different name -A different strength in the One Power Those are mere speculation. Th…

The Prologue of Crown of Swords tells of Elaida's plans to build a palace for herself. What would likely happen to it when Egwene gains control of the White Tower? The Whitecloaks headquarters have been conquered by the Seanchan (along with the rest of Amadicia). I guess Galad is leading his Whitecloaks to re-gain the headquarters. This thread may speak about the fates about various buildings.

Re-reading the books in anticipation of The Gathering Storm.... and was reminded of something that has bothered me in the past. Chapter 7, 1st page... Moiraine thinks to herself about Mat "He is not necessary with the Horn gone, and yet..." This has baffled me. Mat isn't at this point linked to the Horn, is he?

  15. I've been reading the WoT since 1999 and PoD was the first new book that I had the pleasure to read. Since then, I have had the pleasure of re-reading the series four times and I believe I am currently on my fifth with some of the books. Anyways, one thing I have never understood is why so many Amazon reviewers hate Path of Daggers. I've always found PoD to be equal of the earlier novels and contains a lot scenes that I like to re-read. I just think that some reviewers fail to understand that the Wheel of Time was not able to maintain the same narrow scope of EotW, TGH and TDR. Instead it (WoT) has become a much more rich and complex world filled with a number of unique c…

  16. In the first few chapters of The Great Hunt, Siuan tells Moiraine that she has a Talent for seeing ta'veren (which leads me to assume that she must have seen another ta'veren at some point in her life to know she has that Talent... but that's another story.) The fact that she has this Talent escaped my memory until I was rereading. When thinking of channelers able to see ta'veren, I just think of Nicola and Logain. However, my question is, since Siuan was stilled and Healed, does she keep the same Talents? Can she still see the glow around the ta'veren? Do any channelers' Talents have to do with strength (all the neatest Talents seem to be from the most power…

  17. In a book (not sure which) before Mogedien is captured by Nyneve and Egwene, she bests Bergetta ???(not sure of her name as I said its been a while. Its the lady with the arrows) and Nyneve Mogedien says she can do special things in the world of dreams. She says she will turn Nyneve into a horse and she will ride her and pet her. For some odd, unknown reason I very much wished that to happen so I was upset when Mogedien was captured with the a'dam. When she was freed I got my hopes up again even though I know the chance of that happening is pretty slim. I want you thoughts, critisism, and random ideas on this subject. :)

Has anyone else noticed the lack of shields in the books? I know the aiel use small bucklers but that is the only shields I can remember reading about. Maybe I read it and forgot because my memory is not as good as it used to be (I blame it on my freshman year) but you would think that there would be some shields used. I can think of a couple of reasons why. Just as the samurai and other asian warrior classes did not use shields because of the intricacies of their swordmanship this would be why Lan, Rand, Galad and all other great swordsmen do not use shields, simply they do not need them as their sword can act as a shield. but for all the other warriors who are …

I'm a bit confused and wondered if anyone could shed some light? Chapter 13 of Lord of Chaos (Under the dust) has the Forsaken icon as the chapter icon, you know the serpent twisting in and out of the square. These chapters always have a Forsaken's POV or maybe their alter-ego or sometimes something may happen that we know one of the Forsaken had a major hand in. Now the chapter in question starts with Nynaeve in Salidar with Theodrin trying to have her block broken, Theodrin tips a bucket of water over Nyn's head lol. We then see Tarna (The Red sister who is the emmisary from the White Tower) paying Nyn a visit trying to convince Nyn to return to the Tower i think. The c…

IF Min, Aviendha and Elayne wouldn't agree over sharing Rand, and you would be him, who would you choose? And why?

  21. Hi, I'm new here. I'll ask a question and hope that this is the right place. If I'm wrong, I'll keep that in mind for the next posting. In Lord of Chaos, Egwene sees a woman painting a stable the color blue. Who is this person? I feel like it might be Mesana but I have no idea really. Any thoughts? Waiting on the gathering storm. I'm treking thruogh the audio books with my wife whose never read it but really loves to listen to it with me. Some of the parts freak her out and she loves all the female characters. Hope I can get some answers.

personally I think its Rand/LTT who teaches the Tinkers the song. They are an offshoot of the people of the dragon...I wonder if that melody he hums when pulling his earlobe while looking at a pretty girl is related to it at all? probably not, but it would be somewhat amusing. Are there any other candidates or other opinions on the matter?

Birgitte is the only character in the series who we can be absolutely certain is tied to the Wheel, destined to return to T'a'R while awaiting rebirth. So, suppose she dies in a fairly ordinary fashion - Who gets first crack at her soul? The Wheel, or the DO? The Wheel or the Lord of the Grave? My guess is the Wheel. I think the DO only gets first crack at those to which are attached the black filaments that Rand has seen. What do you think?

Who was she? On my first read I always assumed it was Elaida since she had been interested in information about Elmindreda and I have never really thought much about in my other readthroughs. But Elaida is bound by the oaths so it cant have been her. So my new guess is Alviarin, especially since we know she is black ajah later in the books but also since Elaida reveals the plot to Alviarin. Alviarian later also aids Elaida in becomming the Amyrlin through discovering Siuan's plot with the dragon reborn. Any thoughts?

During my read through of TDR I noticed Matt has atleast memories from another past life. At the beginning of chapter 19 Awakening it has one from the fall of Manethern. It has been along time since I have reread the early books in the series. Is there any other times like this. I am curious if he had more memories like that one before the finns.
