So I was reading an RJ interview about Ta'veren and such-its the one where he confirms that Ta'veren are selected by the Pattern, not born-and a certain line he said made me think. Below is the web address and a quote. http://www.dragonmount.com/RobertJordan/?p=27 The comment in bold strikes me as odd. If you think about it, a Ta'veren gets what he needs when he needs it-we have seen this plenty of times with Rand to know how it works to a point. Think about it like this; a baby Ta'veren is teething, so surely said baby would get what it needs when it needs it, thus making said baby a nice, happy quiet baby. Do you see where I am coming from? Up unt…

I have tried to search for other threads but can't find anything so sorry if this has been discussed previously. I wanted to start a topic that didnt contain the words 'Richard' or 'Rahl' but did start to look at Rand as a character, his history, and other characters in other books which are slightly similar. The first person that came to my mind, was Garion, or Belgarion of the Belgariad/Malloreon stories, by David Eddings. I'm sure most of you know the history of Garion, but it struck me that it was quite similar to Rands - both are 'important people' so to speak, both were raised by non-relatives and had no idea of their heritage until their teens (Ga…

I can see threads like What is a remnant of a remnant" showing up, and I can clearly remember a previous thread which was about that, and the Two Rivers tabac? We are really lacking things we can write about!

I was just listening to COT and Elyane was complaining about cool bath water and wondered why none of the channelers use the power for simple things that make life easier for everyone. All this about having servants bring in water by thr bucket when she can warm it back up herself.

The eighth Wheel of Time book came out on 20 October 1998. It was the second WoT book I got in hardcover, but the first I got on day of release. Since it had been significantly delayed already, I remember really being excited about it, especially as Book 7 had set things up for some major carnage, and with RJ then talking about the series being done in ten books it was expected there would be some major advancement with the storyline and the characters. He'd also written the New Spring story in the interim, which had been excellent, very well paced and packed with incident for such a short story, which seemed to bode well for the next book in the main series. As a re…

Does being stilled/gentled affect Talents? For example both Siuan and Logain could see ta'veren. But now that they have been stilled/gentled, can they still do so? Could they see in the interim period before being Healed?

Bludgeons of Air, lightning, fireballs, balefire, deathgates, exploding heads, erupting earth, shadowspawn-seeking energy balls, etc. There are lots of different ways to kill with the Power. RJ thought up some cool ones, and I hope to see more in aMoL. However, I can't help thinking that, if I were a channeler with the Last Battle looming, I would be developing my own fighting style. How would YOU kill with the power, given enough time to practice/develop the skills needed? Consider that you may be forced to fight other channelers one-on-one. I like the idea of manipulating physical weapons with Air, like wielding four swords at once. Another technique coul…

We've been getting comparisons of the two since as far back as their first real meeting in Shadow Rising and they seem to more or less be equally deadly counterparts so can't help but wonder who'd win in a one on one match

Maybe, somehow I missed it in the reading, but why has none of the Aes Sedai that are hunting the Black Ajah considered Alvirin? They know that the BA knows everything coming out of Eladia's office before it does. And yet I do not recall anyone saying hmmmm maybe we need to look at Alvirin. The Keeper goes off on some "business" and while they consider it strange they dont follow up. Please, quote chapter and verse if I am wrong or voice opinions why this has happened.

I just been batting this around and so far, up til this last book the balance of power between men and women has been pretty constant. The men have greater strength, but the women bonded can defeat them. The men figured out how to use their powers in units to amplify their attacks to equal things out. However, this last thing with women now being able to sense exactly what and where a man is channeling, I feel that this has shifted the balance of power radically in the women's favor. I don't know if RJ was planning on balancing things by having the men develop the same thing? He has done that with healing stilling and other things. I would like to see if RJ would have bal…

Hi everybody I love the WOT books and am currently reading through them all again. I read all the books that had been written up to about 1999 and then stopped -as there were no more books yet written.. forgot about it the series for a while and the plots/story-so many! and then thought it best to wait for the series to be finished (well almost finished :'().... and read it all from the start again. Which is what I am doing now! I just wanted to say that I came across the coldplay song 'viva la vida' and noticed it really goes well with the reading series! I love the energy of the song and the fantasy elemnts of the words - sword, shield, kings, keys etc etc …

There's already a topic on casting options, but what are some opinions on who should direct the WoT movie (if Universal ever scrapes up the budget)? I really like Peter Jackson's direction, but would anyone take it seriously if he directed it? Or would they just see it as a rip-off of LOTR? (Of course I don't see it that way, but would a lot of people?)

So there are a lot of characters who whilst they have been instrumental in many of the plots, are only 'secondary' characters, and we could easily forget them. However, many of these characters are likely to be instrumental in the final battle also, and I wanted to see what you thought of my little list: Gareth Bryne 'Trom' - Galad's colleague Byar Jnr Asunawa Abel Cauthon Tallanvor ... the guy with Morgase... the innkeeper... :-[ forget his name People like Siuan, Leane Bashere I'm not asking for discussion whether they are secondary characters, or whether they have been instrumental, but on where you think their character will end up, pr…

Several questions I have. Did the Forsaken age while they where inside the Bore? Or did their aging like freeze during that time? The books tell of 7 Seals and tell that Aginor and Balthamel were near the top. 3 of the Seals have been found intact; others have been found broken. The broken Seal found in Eye of the World, I guess sealed Aginor & Balthamel. Is this correct? The broken pieces found in Great Hunt, I guess sealed Lanfear. Is this correct? Sammael and Belal where the next Forsaken known to be released. Would the seal found in Dragon Reborn have been the one to seal them? Asmodean, Graendal, Moghedien, and Rahvin make their first appea…

Disclaimer: This is not an actual theory, since I do not believe this will actually happen. It is more of a musing and a What if-scenario. So, one of the mysteries we are waiting for is just how and why Alivia will help Rand die. Imagine this scenario rolling out... Rand and his entourage visits the Borderland army out looking for him. Initially, everything goes well, he meets the nobles, talks a bit about his plan and all that stuff. Enter the 13 Aes Sedai in the camp, who for good reasons are suspected to be Black Ajah. Now, what do we know about the special thing about the number 13 when it comes to channelers? Oh right, they can, with the assistance of 1…

Does anyone resent the breakup of Rand and Egwene, and wish that those two had remained together? I am somewhat uncomfortable with the way they drifted apart. It seems weird, considering their actions and behavious through the first 2 books.

I agree that the WOT movie can't be done in 1 film without significant cuts. I would like to present an analysis of The Eye of the World dialogue that was prompted by 2 things. 1. Red Eagle's announcement of a deal with Universal Pictures for The Eye of The World. 2. Endless posts saying that Jordan's books are only page after page of descriptions. The analysis of TEOTW was undertaken with a study of the text and then a study of the spoken word. Conclusion: ~98,000 words of dialogue taking 10 hours to deliver lines. For reference, the total word count of TEOTW is ~298,000. Therefore, approximately one-third of TEOTW is dialogue. Maybe as…

Ok i might be nitpicking at this one :- I don't know ifs its been mentioned but what i found most interesting about this is the use of the word hands since now Rand only has one, also the fact that before this it has alreday been foreshadowed that he would lose a hand(cant remember the exact quote, but something about if he lost his hand he would carry on as if it were someone else hand) so based on this im quite open to the possibity that its Taim shes refering to as being the person on the funeral bier. Any thoughts? This may have already been chewed on and spat out so apologies if i'm pulling up a used bone :)

When Mat goes into the ter'angreal in the Stone of Tear (tSR P. 252), after Mat asks his first question, the Aelfinns' "eyes lifted from him--reluctantly, it seemed--and studied the air above his head." That sounds very much like what Min does when she "sees" people. Could her ability to see the pattern have anything to do with the Aelfinn? Also (p 255) when Rand emerges from the doorframe with "that fiery sword in his hands." He's channelling while exiting the ter'angreal. When Moiraine and Lanfear go through the other while channelling, they are both stilled and the doorframe melts. How does this make sense? ~Mashiara

Hello all. As this is my first post, please forgive my cheek in being presumptuous enough to start with criticism, but I am interested to know if other fans feel the same things I do, regarding the series, and I hope that my words are taken in the spirit intended, which is of discussion, not rancor. To start, I began reading the series shortly before Lord of Chaos was released, so that it was readily available at the library by the time I finished TFOH. This was around 1995. My first impressions of EOTW, after reading the first few chapters, was that he was clearly writing in the Tolkien style (I will assume such an intelligent community does not need a list of simil…
