I know it is a well thought fact that many believe to be about Moiraine, but when min had her viewing RAND: "He would almost certainly fail without a woman who was dead and gone..." i always have felt it is about Cadsuane, as we know many of her sisters have expressed surprise and shock that she is still alive, many thought she was dead and gone, and if it was about Moiraine wouldn't Min have known it was her, also i know the other arguement that it was the only viewing that Min had that never came true which is why it is assumed to be associated to being Moiraine, but we have no indication of what viewing it was of Moiraine that she had, and since Moiraine said…

Since there is a lot of evidence our current age is the 1st age of WoT, and since people are reborn again and again, I was wondering who the major players in the series may have been today, and/or the AoL. I'm making an assumption that most people are reborn each age, though I'm not sure if thats true. If RJ said anything on the matter, tell us please, it will help the thread. When thinking of "major players" in our age a few names come to mind. (Hitler, Patton, Arthur, Alexander, Jesus) When thinking who could be who reincrnated, I considered accomplishments, deeds, and most importantly personality. For example, Hitler and Moridin are widely considered th…

They both appeared as characters around the same time. Ishy did something to Jain Farstrider that made him ashamed. Now, it looks like Noal is Jain. Did Ishy compel Old Cully to keep an eye on Matt? As usual, I don't have any quotes...just gut instinct...blaze away.

What moment in the series where someone got toally owned just made you go 'Oh snap!'. I'll start. =D My favorite was when Egwene took control of the rebel aes sedai because of the law dealing with Amyrlins and war. Everyone in the Hall just like, fainted or vomited. It was ultra bad a**. How about you guys?

"You are a fine judge of character child," Siuan tells Nynaeve after Nynaeve has complained about Laras (the Tower Mistress of the Kitchens) being harsh and unfair. She proceeds to tell Nynaeve that Laras is actually quite nice and secretly asked for leniency for Nynaeve and her friends during their punishment work in the kitchens. So plainly Siuan doesn't think Nynaeve was a particularly good judge of character. So how does this work then? "To speak no word that is not true...unless you are being sarcastic or aiming for comic effect." ;D

It just struck me when I was doing my re-read of the series again. Arent Waygates supossed to be indestrubtable? Yes Moiraine cuts a hole into it but I saw that as a weak stone in the middle but with an indestructable shell. Yet the Waygate of Shadar Logoth disappears after Rand cleans saidin or someone would have mentioned a waygate hanging in the air.

I know there are some people who are not fond of the NA cover art, but I for one started reading these books purely becasue I saw the cover of EotW. That was the first book in the series and IMO the best cover bar none. It gave an idea of what each of the major characters looked like (even if it was slightly off of the in book descriptions) and depicted a major scene from the book. On the other hand I didn't really like the cover for KoD because it's hard to tell who is in the scene (besides Perrin obv.)and what scene is being shown. Not only that but Perrin just looks completely different than I had him pictured in my mind. So what I want to know is, which cover(s) …

In each of these scenarios? 1. You're a lone woman, travelling through Randland, and are beset by vagabonds who have slightly untoward intentions. You've nothing but a belt-knife and that breaks pretty rapidly. Who would you most like to see galloping over the horizon to your rescue? 2. You're a ruler, you've just succeeded your parent and most of the council think you're still wet behind the ears. Who would you be most happy to hear has just come into town to see you? 3. You're an accepted, you're hating it. You only made one friend and they didnt pass the test so you're alone. You want to find a friendly AS to cry with but the only ones you can find are Y…

  11. two things concerning the last battle have peaked my curiosity, apologies if they've already been discussed. Its been awhile since I've personally re-read the books, but I'm going on what others have said on this forum and from vague memories. #1: i think its pretty clear at this point that moiraine WILL be making a return, however, i've always been extremely puzzled as to HOW she will make a difference(according to min's viewings, she's absolutely essential). One possible way i can imagine her helping is by teaching rand to not put everything on his shoulders(he treated her death especially hard), by telling him that she doesn't blame him for what happened to her…

I know there was an older thread about this topic, yet the post reply screen suggested starting a new thread. This thread is to discuss who killed Asmodean. The killer had to be someone Asmodean would recognize. That would for sure exclude the New Forsaken since each have new bodies; maybe also Black Ajah, Mazrim Taim, Shaidar Haran, Slayer, Padan Fain. The killer would have to been alive (in Randland) at the time. That would exclude Belal, Rahvin, and Moiraine. The killer would most likely have had a reason to be in Caemlyn at the time. That would likely exclude Demandred, Mesaana, and Semirhage. Someone on the side of the Light could also be excluded sin…

  14. In the beginning of the EotW, Moiraine says something like, "Even with half a dozen of my sisters here, we may not have been able to stop the attack," or something like that regarding the trolloc attach on the TW. What did you think when you saw her say 6 sisters? I swear I thought she meant 6 sisters related by blood and I thought they were a witchy family or something like that. ;D

I was re-reading the LoC for the upteenth time and I came across the part when Rand sends Mat and the Band to "rescue" Elyane. (This isn't a thread about how much it bothers me that Mat was used by the wonder girls although it could be :P) Anyway, There was one part that stood out for me that I don't remember much about, it was when Mat is riding with Olver and Avienda, after Olver tried to kill her. It's revealed that Olver doesn't trust her because she's Aiel, and the Shaido killed his father, but Mat observes to himself that Olver also seems to make Avienda uneasy. Was it ever revealed why it is that he makes Avienda uneasy? I thought it could be that she was jus…

So I was reading the 'Oh Snap!' thread, and a lot of people were saying Mat provided many of their favourite moments, and so I got to thinking about this. There are a few threads on Mat but I think they have gotten a bit too convoluted for my purposes. So, there are 6 'main men' in our story; Rand Mat Perrin Galad Gawyn Lan (from my pov anyway) and each is involved with a woman/women ::) But when they fight it is for different reasons. Rand fights because he has to, to keep himself safe. He is however aware that he needs to be alive at TG HOWEVER he is also aware from the prophecies taht he WILL be alive when TG arrives, so perh…

  20. In TDR in the chapter titled Questions we see Elayne going through the list of stolen ter'angreal. we're lead to believe that the fact that the ring is missing from the listsuggests Verin may be Black Ajah as the girls are wonderous as to why she left it out. But surely after giving it personally to Egwene the need to put it on the list wasn't there.

I think this matter has been touched before, but not completely dug into, I think. I wonder how many DF there could be with the Tinkers, or the Aiel, or the Sharans, or the Seanchan. There are so many nations and groups of people that I don't have an indea of the probable percentage of DF, so I wonder if someone could explain this closer to me.

I was thinking (scary, but true) about this and thought it would be an interesting topic. We here at WOT are one of the most diverse groups I have been associated with between religions, sex, color, creed etc. From different countries and diverse even in the same country, we all have had many things to say on the many subjects on this site. For this one, I don't want your personal opinion. I want you to think about your community you live in. Big city, small town, metropolis, where you call home. Now, I want you to think of what you think would be your community's reaction would be if a band of Aiel were spotted camped a couple miles outside. Or the tinkers,…

Did Aviendha ever really hate Rand or was it just an attempt to drive him away (a common theme among the male characters especially) to avoid incurring toh to Elayne if so it seems she did a crap job because she refused all efforts to escape the duty of Rands teacher

Ok, Im pretty sure this has been discussed but not at length, so lets do it here. All the way through his stage as the Prophet I have thought something was wrong. Sorry, but there is absolutely no way a "madman" can get the sort of following Masema did. Not a chance. At first I thought maybe he was Ta'veren, but in a reread I have begun to see what I think are hints of his dark allegiance. First off. Masema hates Rand aparantly because he is Aiel. Yet why would someone who hates Aiel suddenly start worshipping one? Its a ploy, I reckon. I have noticed that in the Darkfriend meeting in TGH that Rand, Mat and Perrin were shown to the Darkfriends, and THEN "the Sh…

  27. Started by Ashaman Kovan,

So i'm on another reread of the series and I just finished TGH last night. And I really got to thinking on how creating a Ter'Angreal, specifically an A'dam works. We know how alot of weaves are made, at least as much as anyone who exists in a world without channeling can know. But when it comes to making something like the A'dam it seems almost like it should be computerized. When someone makes one how do they really go about putting all the restrictions and things that are involved in it. Everything from Damane feeling twice over whatever a Sul'Dam does to not being able to move a certain distance away from it when it's not being worn, and getting sick progessively as t…

Will more Aes Sedai swear fealty to Rand? The prophecy suggests that its likely "the unstained tower breaks and bends knee to the forgotten sign" as well as RJ phrasing at the end of LOC "The first nine Aes Sedai swore fealty to the Dragon Reborn and the world was changed for ever" although this could just refer to the party loyal to Elaida swearing fealty. Elaida's prophecy on the other hand, something along the lines of the white tower rising stronger then ever, seems to suggest differently since its hard to for it to be stronger then ever if they must ask Rands permission "to bathe". Personally I believe more will due to Rands tavernness and that the few…

  29. Started by GrandpaG,

This has been eating at me for some reason lately. When RJ decided to write the series, he must have had some inner reason for wanting to write it. He might have been doing it just for the money and notoriety, but I seriously doubt it; he put too much of his soul into it for that. Besides stating that he knew what the final scene of the final book would be before he ever started writing, did he ever say "why" he wrote the series? It is obviously entertaining. But, he also uses a lot of historical fact. And some humor. And he exploits the male/female differences...ALOT!!! He semi-avoids religion but heavily hammers politics and it's various intrigues. The …
