  1. ok hers just an interesting questtion i don't really see how we could know but its just a thought. How come Lanfear died in FoH and Moraine didn't i mean we all know that moraine is gona get rescued in MoL and we all know that Lanfear has been reserected cause she died when they both wnet through the portal type Terangreal (I hope i spelled that right) so why did Moraine live and Lanfear die?

How It'll All Go Down in TG (Or: The Return of the Male Aes Sedai--Totally Not A Ripoff Plot Of Any Kind From Any Major Franchise) Everyone's been posting their ideas for AMOL, so I thought I'd give it a shot. It seems fairly obvious how it'll all happen. First off, the Forsaken will all Travel to the Blight. There, the Dark One is preparing to break free of his prison. To protect him, the Forsaken will erect a huge shield using the One Power. Rand will then gather all the Good Guys in to a massive conference and reveal his master plan. He has found out what the Dark One is up to thanks to the top secret Ogier spy network. Unfortunately, many Ogier …

  3. Started by Hybrid,

I've been rereading all the books while waiting for AMOL. While reading TDR, I came upon the chapter where Moiraine, Lan, and Perrin enter Illian. My question is, how did Moiraine know it was Sammael in Illian? Recognizing the presence of a Forsaken (or at least a powerful channeler) was one thing, but how did she know specifically that it was Sammael? It's not as if she walked into the palace and asked him. And in KOD, we saw that Cadsuane, one of the most knowledgable Aes Sedai, cannot recognize Semirhage on sight. I doubt Moiraine knew Sammael by sight, and even if she did, how could she get within sight of him without him noticing her? (I hope I'm not posting s…

The fortellings are usually quite clear-though the interpreter may interpret wrongly (*cough*Elaida*cough*) But why are prophecies so obscure? Obviously the writer needs them to be so or there is no suspense whatsoever and this is an issue not only in the WoT but in every book that has prophecies. What would be the logical WoT answer to this? Say, if Rand asked Moiraine why they are obscure, what sort of answer would a WoT character give? THe Prophecies are supposed to help so it only makes sense that they should be as clear as possible. And I won't even start with the Finns. I do love it this way though. The fancy way in which the prophecies are expressed …

  5. So a lot of fun stuff happened around then, including some mysteries. This is, as near as I can tell, the events of that time--it raises two interested questions. So, Gitara foretells Rand's birth and dies. Tamra gathers searchers, the Black Ajah realise something is up and put her to the Question and uncover that the Dragon has been born--though they seemingly don't realise when. Jarna Milari, the then head of the Black Ajah, has Tamra and her searchers killed and begins a search and destroy mission--she had Black Sisters kill any male who show signs of channeling, which is to say signs of sudden luck. At the same time the Black incites the Red into gentling any man…

Hi, I have read the whole WOT series many times and I have recently bought all the audiobooks in unabridged format. I will admit that being used to listening to audiobooks, I found the WOT ones very good. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading did a superb narrating job as I can recognized each different caracters just be the sound of their voices. Before book 12, I will do another readthrough. And it will definitly be with my audiobooks. But let me assure all of you that I will read book 12... I have to hold the book while I read it to truly get the full immertion feeling. Has anyone else listened to the audiobooks? What where your thoughs?

Hello. I am an aspiring writer myself. It has dawned on me that one of my main characters is a major Marty Stu. In an attempt to gauge the potential problems inherent in this, and ways around them, I am looking at some similar characters in other people's works with potential Mary Sue/Marty Stu traits for comparison. Rand al'Thor from Whel of Time is one such similar character. (For those who don't know what a Mary Sue/Marty Stu is, click the links above.) I sent Rand through a "Universal Mary Sue Litmus Test", and he scored (by my estimates) 61 points, which made the test advise me to "Kill it dead". :P So... do you believe that Rand is a Marty Stu…

I searched for the old post but was unable to find it. I had to reformat my computer and I lost the url for it, but I used to go to a website that has a wot map. It had all of the battles/cities/groves/etc on it. There was also a mini map in the left hand corner that showed what lands are under the control of who. If anyone could link the url that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.

It is weird that within the White Tower, every Ajah is so heavily opposing every other Ajah. The reasons given are clear but I sometimes wonder if the AS have all lost their brains in behaving so stupidly. Yes, we know that AS are dumb, but as dumb as this? ASSAULTING sisters !!! And much worse... Is this practically possible? They are aware of the state of the world, they are aware of the Forsaken being loose, they are aware of Tarmon Gaidon on their doorstep....and yet act like this!! At least someone would have pointed out the obvious? When they were taking Egwene in that carriage to the Tower in Book 11, I was utterly shocked when the sisters embraced s…

Just a fun topic, nothing serious or overly important. Since Tuon can learn to channel, she tells Mat that it is her choice , just like it is her choice whether or not she should steal or murder someone. Hence, she declares that she is different from damanae who are those who MUST channel no matter what. How logical do you think this comparison is? I'll save my own answer for later.

Clearly Snape killed Asmodean. No, I'm lieing. No one knows who killed Asmodean for sure besides Sanderson at the moment :o. Since he has the knowledge we seek, heres the plan: We adopt an orphan, we drink diet coke until one of us gets cancer in the liver or something (proven to give cancer to lab mice, like everything else). Then we transplant the cancerous liver into the orphan. Then we submit the sick orphan to Make a Wish Foundation, and tell him to tell them to force Sanderson to reveal the killer of Asmodean to the sick orphan (whats more pitiful? Than a sick orphan :'(). Sanderson wont be able to say no! Then we force the information out of the orphan, thus s…

I know this has probably been mentioned before, but I'm not sure... lol As we all know Eladia is one ingnorant and arrogant woman that doesn't know up from down. In her foretelling she knows that the royal bloodline of Andor must be kept and will play a key roll in winning tarmogeden. Everyone says rand resembles the previous queen... can't think of her name right now... Although I know it's nearly impossible for her to know that he is her son, but it just shoes how inept she is at understanding things and only thinking inside the box.

  15. I had a thought. Everyone - by whom I mean all the main characters: Rand, Mat and Perrin especially but perhaps the Ewgenes, Elaynes, Nynaeves etc - will presumably have to meet up just before or during Tarmon Gaidon (sp?) and I was thinking about where. How, it's been a while since I've read through the series so I will need reminding/correcting on a number of things, but this is my theory: Mat has to find and rescue Moiraine; Rand has to meet and deal with Tuon as well as the Borderland armies; Perrin has to deal with Morgase and Damodred (sp?) and the White Cloaks; Elayne seems to just have to deal with her pregnancy ::); Egwene has to deal with Elaida and the civ…

  16. Anyone other than yours truly read about the four Forsaken meeting (Lanfear, Ravin, Sammael, and Graendel) akin to the Four Arch-Criminals in the Adam West Batman movie plotting the demise of the caped crusader? Penguin, Joker, Riddler....and Lanfear too? -Random thoughts from the Myndrunner

  17. RAND AL THOR's thread "The Light Illumine you" gave me an idea. I would like to have some fun with this. Lets take some of the slang and try to figure out what either the Randlanders meant by thier sayings or what you would interpret them to be. For instance "Mother's milk in a cup" I have tried to rack my brains as to why that would be slang. Any ideas to this one or some of the others?

It occurred to me that Elayne is apparently the first Aes Sedai to have children. While I'm sure that most Aes Sedai are too wrapped up in their duties to have children, and only a Green sister would think about men that way anyway, it strikes me as odd that even within the Green Ajah Elayne is setting a precedent. Myrelle, for example, has never gotten pregnant even though... actually, we have no substantial proof that she has sexual relations with her Warders, only rumors from other Aes Sedai and a hickey on Lan's neck in LoC... Anyway... since we have a clear example of an Aes Sedai having children, which seems to be unprecedented, I thought it might be a good top…

Why was Moraine so unaffected by Siaun's supposed death? Was it because she knew she faced a good chance of dying? What are your oppinions on them, do you think the will meet in AMOL? If i remember right Moraine still thinks Siaun is dead and Siaun thinks Moraine is dead. Oh and obviously do you think Moraine will even survive to meet Siaun?

But then she had her body changed and so she is no longer the most beautiful woman. Would anyone mind sharing their thoughts with me??

Not really good at introducing myself, but I think its a great way to start on these boards. My name is Kevin and I'm 24 years old, about to turn 25 on Friday. I was recently introduced to the Wheel of Time by a mutual friend. I am half-way done with the first book and I am amazed by this book. I'm so upset I was introduced to it before the untimely death of Robert Jordan. I would have loved to have met him. Now I don't know too much about the series except for whats in the first book so far, but I would still love to discuss the book and get to know a lot of people and make friends. So, that's about it for my introduction lol. Kevin

  23. Cairhien is to its south east and Andor is to it's south west. The Borderlands are to the north and Arad Doman is to the far west. Every map I look at they show the borders of the countries. I would assume that Andor controls it all but there is a clear border on some of these maps that shows no Countries name. The Black Hills and Caralain Grass seem to be in the middle of no where.

Bear with me for a moment: - Yes, they do like to meddle in the affairs of the world yet they care little for the way it is achieved. small breakdown per Ajah: - Grey -> brokering peace and trade treaties and solving lawdisputes - Red -> protecting people against mad male channelers. These two are the only ones serving in the world as it seems - Brown -> Gathering knowledge.... in Tar Valon - Yellow -> Gathering healing skills... in Tar Valon - Green -> Preparing for war... in Tar Valon - Blue -> Trying to influenc…

Oddly enough - Lacuna Coil's "When a Dead Man Walks" starts playing... it was perfect timing, The end of Lord of Chaos when rand explodes out of the chest... here are the lyrics: Paranoia In which I think that I'm not confident Blood into my hands, blood into my hands, Blood in to my hands I can't deny A buzz into my ears that makes me mad But I don't look back While I'm waiting to die I don't look back In a weird lullaby I'll carry on And the hope in my heart is dry But I don't look back An…

What exactly is the 'Light?' When people say 'May the Creator's hand shelter you' you may take it to mean something like 'God bless you' and it is understandable since there is a being called the Creator. But what is the Light? Randland folk curse by it and also says other stuff calling upon the Light but what actually is it? Can't be power related since the Whitecloaks use it also. Just wondering............

Where do warders stand? Aren't they supposed to exist to defend their AS in situations where they may not use the One Power to defend themselves? We see many of them being treated like servants. Carrying stuff etc... Have they no lives of their own? Trailing their AS all the time? Their lives are worse than those of servants! An AS may just shut the door in the warder's face and he has to stay outside (as happens in Book 11-Mat's rampage). I just feel that the worst guy you could be in WoT is a warder. No wonder males are looked down upon.....

Now we know in TGH, they all take some clothes form that one village, but it was stated there was slim pickings there. So what happend to all of these new clothes, and why do they continue to get called farmboy!! They should all have realy nice outfits, but they do not!!

Will any of the Forsaken turn back to the Light? Is it even possible? As I've read through various threads, many people seem to agree that even if the Dark One won the Last Battle, they'd be toast too. So will any of the Forsaken maybe switch sides during TG and maybe even be rewarded by Rand or whoever survives?
