I'm guessing there have been numerous other topics on this but I'm to lazy to search for one (so I thought I'd make one) Okay Well The Choedan Kal are ter'angreal that allow the user to acces the two most powerful sa"angreal ever, Theres one for a man and one for a woman but I've been wondering that since these were made during the age of legends before the breaking how come they weren't used to fight the dark one? or for that matter clense saddinIn the ninth book Winter's Heart Rand and Nynaeve removed the taint, so why couldn't they have been used to Destroy the Dark Oneback in the age of Legends? or clean saddin and prevent the breaking? Well I've thought a…

Hiya, me again. What do people think about the magic system in WOT? Myself: F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. After reading WOT, the word 'magic' suddenly seems really childish because of how RJ created his magic system. It is very unique, mainly due to the lack of spells/incantations/objects of power (exclude angreal which are not ESSENTIAL)/wands/and other complicated rituals. RJ's magic system is very simple and really really brilliant. There is one thing though. I would have loved it if there had been some other magic in Randland too. We have channelers drawing on the Power that drives the universe. How cool would it be to have a few rare necromancer-type guys who do…

... dead links that are still posted on the web are unfortunately for Dragonmount interviews from December 2002 with both Harriet and Robert Jordan. Both links lead to an "eaten by a Trolloc" message. Any chance that could all get fixed, somehow?

I've read all the WoT books and would like to start something else. What other books do you guys recommend? Of course WoT is by far my favorite but I also enjoyed the Harry Potter series and Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series. What are some of your favorites. Thanks ps. I hope this post is not too far off topic.

Okay, so the zomarah (spell ???) are servants. They are able to predict what their lord desires before that desire manifests itself in the mind of the lord. Wouldn't these things make wonderful warriors? If their chemistry can be altered a bit to forsee the foe's intent instead of desire, they would make a very formidable and theoretically undefeatable army! If Aginor was able to create a zomarah, I can't believe he failed to make something like what I stated above, though that would likely demolish the whole story which is why no fantasy author that I know of has ever incorporated such an idea.

  9. I posted on this once before, and figured now would be a good time to bring it up again. In my opinion, the Song that the Tinkers are looking for will definitely be part of permanently sealing the Bore. RJ planted too many hints concerning the Song and its importance. Also, he placed great significance on the Chora tree. It seems---and has seemed, from the "singing" scene during Age of Legends to the Da'shain Aiel's commission to keep the Chora alive, and on down to today---to be very important, but RJ never expressed WHY it's important. I think, in some way, the Chora will play a vital role in sealing the Bore. On a hunch, I did a little digging on the Chora tree, a…

Elder Haman will be murdered and die a violent death at the hands of the Trollocs at a waygate. Here's the proof: 1. Only a few waygates left, and waygates are supposedly only one of three possible ways for Trollocs to get far south without marching through the Borderlands. The others are possibly skimming, and Portal Stones. 2. The Ogier won't fight at Loial's word alone and will be outraged that their "leader" would be murdered in such a hasty fashion. Agreed?

I guess there could be possible spoilers up to book 8, so here is the warning.. And just to take up a little space ill rant a bit, Sorry if these questions have been asked before but i browsed around and didnt see anything, im sure some Staff member will come around and lock the topic and give me a link to some useless topic which wont answer my specific question but give info about the general idea... But i'm going to ask anyway. By the way links that answer my specific question i always love to get. Ok.. How did Moiraine know about Alviarin not being able to be trusted? Was that one of her questions in the Ter'angreal? How did she know about Asmodeo…

sorry if these have been discussed before, just want some fresh thoughts on a few things... firstly, my understanding with balefire is that if a person is blasted with it, rather than just being killed their thread in the pattern is erased and they cease to exist. right? if this is the case the thread would have to burnt back all the way to when theyre born in order to be destroyed. my question is that if say one of the forsaken is balefired, their thread erased, then everything theyve ever done should not have happened, drastically chnging the course of events in the future..i mean,it means they never existed in the first place, would this not unwind the whole patte…

I've searched for answers to my question, and am not satisfied with what I have found (which, of course, doesn't mean that I'm right!): "The lion sword, the dedicated spear, she who sees beyond. Three on the boat, and he who is dead yet lives. The great battle done, but the world not done with battle. The land divided by the return, and the guardians balance the servants. The future teeters on the edge of a blade." This seems to be about as evident a foretelling as we've gotten, at least most of it. All is easily understood, with a few uncertainties. It seems, though, that the last line is accepted just as melodrama -everyone knows that the future is undec…

  17. I'm reading book 10 (yes, still, I had to give it to my mum to read because she was waiting for it and i'd rather she read it at her breakneck speed and then go on to book 11 so i can read it at my leisure), and i'm on the part where Egwene has been looking out over the river to Tar Valon. Gareth Bryne has tried to persuade her to Travel him into the city and he says he can 'take it for her'. She refuses. Anyway, when she returns to her escort, Delana is there and insists on talking to Egwene alone. All she wants to do is to manipulate Egwene into opening up negotiations or talks with Elaida. Now, we know that whatever comes out of Delana's mouth has actually …

  19. In CoT we encounter a pack of fifty Darkhounds heading south through Altara. Masuri states that they have long been hunting their prey, and that it is eluding them. Now, many people suggest Fain as the most likely culprity, but thats never sat well with me. It seems a waste--the Shadow knows Fain can move by Waygate, so sending what are essentially hunting dogs to find him seems foolish. Yes they might luck upon his trail in between leaping, but that truly would take luck--one pack managing accross him in the entire Westlands. They cannot keep up with him, can't follow any form of trail or track or estimate his direction. For them to take him it would require an acci…

  20. Hi. I was wondering if there were any aspiring authors in this forum? I myself am one and my inspiration comes from many sources (eg LOTR, His Dark Materials, WoT etc...) I was just hoping that you may share your experiences of how the WoT has influenced your writing. I hate it when people tell me that my work is too similar to someone else's work. I am still planning my first novel and intend to write something that no-one will accuse of 'stealing ideas.' However, the WoT is exerting a tremendous pull on my brain and I am currently fighting a war against it, trying to avoid stealing RJ's ideas!!!!! So anyone else?

  21. Read the Kushiel's Legacy series? Just out of pure curiosity. I stopped coming to these boards quite a while back to stop myself from pining for an end to the series. ::) As it happens I've been pouring through plenty of fantasy as a stop gap and I'm well and truly hooked on Kushiel's Legacy. Robert Jordan called it "A very sophisticated fantasy, intricately plotted and a fascinating read." Just thought I'd recommend it while I was popping back in to see what's changed. On that note I'm actually quite scared that Luckers seems to have somehow become more prolific than before I left (Didn't think that was possible) & simultaneously bemused that his…

This may have been discussed before BUt I have noticed an incositance with balefire. For example when Rand Killed the demon dogs in rhuidian he used a "finger Thick" beam of balefire that as we all know caused the dogs to turn funky colors and no longer exist. the entire animal did. But the inconistnacy I see is that when balefire is used on say a boat (nyneave) or a building it just burns holes or slices. If rand hits a ceiling columb with Balefire it just takes a chunk out the exact size of the flow used not destroying the entire columb. Yet used on a living thing it doesn't just burn a hole through them, the entire organism is destroyed. I find this inconsisitant. Your…

I think I've discovered the perfect music for Wheel of Time- the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack by Bear McCreary. Sure it's made for a sci-fi show, but every time I listen to it I can't help but be reminded of WOT.

  24. Started by RAND AL THOR,

I generally dislike linking ideas in any one story to another. However, there seem to be some interesting relations between Ents and Ogier which suggests that RJ may have been inspired into creating Ogier after reading about Ents in LOTR. They are both nature-related beings with an affection for trees/woods. This alone would not be enough. But, one particular word caught me. Hasty. Treebeard uses it so much that when Loial said the same word and called humans 'hasty' it immediately got me thinking back to LOTR. Of course, the 'hasty' may be due to the extended lives of both Ogier and Ents. Due to their long lives, they may see human lives as a movie that is being fast-f…

Just for kicks… Is the leader of the white tower named after a chair, or the chair after her? “Hey that’s the Amyrlin(s) seat, you can’t sit there” Why is The Band of the Red Hand, a Band and not an Army? “Mat, we’ve got an army here… (Mat) I’m not a general, we have a Band” Could someone please explain to the Tinkers about Poison Ivy, the Venus Fly trap, or one of the thousands of plants that are deadly? Why do the Asha’man follow the old Aes Sedai Banner, while the Aes Sedai still follow the “flame of Tar Valon**”?(** I imagine the flame is the white of the ying/yang banner) “ Look Taim, they use the white half, why don’t we use the big black …

  26. Started by Luckers,

So, we're all looking for Darkfriends since the Light seems a bit to strong in leaders at the moment--and high sitting darkfriends. As things stand, of the major powers only Taim holds heft. So here are some new ideas on powerful figures. First--Zaida. Why? Fairly weak evidence in truth, but i can't help but feel a coup'de'tat building between Harine and Zaida--we know Harine ends up as Mistress of Ships, and yet the whole feel of Harine's chapter in KoD was that she was on the outs with the First Twelve, and growing more disliked by her refusal to give up her position as Wavemistress of Shoedin in the face of her shame. From there i felt we were being framed to…

  27. Started by Asmo,

All three of these women have been shown to dominate with the sheer force of their presence. Even Cadsuane who can channel very strongly, only very rarely resorts to it since she can just bully people into doing whatever she wants, the only exception being Rand, and him not falling far short even then (although that's probably because of Min's viewing). Suppose all three found themselves trying to bully the other two. Channeling forbidden, who'd win? Man, it would be horrible to have one of the three for a mother / older sister / grandmother / wife / mother in law though.

Does anyone have a link to the power-level list created off the comments from RJ that he has such a list, rating all channelers in the books, with Rand at the top (100), and Morgase at the bottom (1)? I don't recall if I read it here or at wotmania; I've tried google searching, but my google-fu stinks at the moment.
