No real point to this but maybe some people find things like this interesting. https://www.textfixer.com/tools/online-word-counter.php I copied the text of tSR there (no specific reason, just the only eBook I had handy at the moment) and let it run for 20 minutes. This is what it spit out. Words of frequency less than 5 have been removed due to size limits of attachments here. Rand was used 1,024 times, Perrin 990, Mat 516 Surprisingly, "plump" was only used 24 times. Braid(s) was used 80 times. tsr-frequency.txt

  2. Started by idiotsavant,

I have started my annual re-read of the series (Currently in the middle of tDR) and am still amazed at the quality of this series. I have read so many series by other authors. Some I enjoyed immensely, others... not so much. But the WoT is just as good the 20th time you read it as the first. It was what I binged before I knew what Netflix was. It was what I took off work for the day a new book came out. Just amazes me how gripping these books are and how they have become so intertwined with my life. (I even named my first daughter Elayna fercryinoutloud!) This doesn't really have a point, I guess. I just wanted to share how much I love this series. May you find…

  3. Started by Rellak,

Hey Everyone, Well Lets see here *Rolls dice* "Yes I hit The King". To me that sounds amazing, so my project for WoT (really my contribution to the cause) is to create "Crowns". This is based off Mats game with Comar. I've read about as much as there is written about the game, in the books and online. I've discovered enough to make the die and rules, now the only process is to create the die which I'm also in the process of. So really this is for anyone that is as crazy as me and wants to play Crowns too, send me a PM and ill keep you updated on how the cause is going and ill send updates with pics and such. So far I'm adding the dice cup which will be bran…

  4. Ok, so get this: I've been thinking a lot about the Aiel and their purpose during the Age of Legends. A group of people who have bound themselves and all (ostensibly) successive generations of their progeny to non-violence and service of the Aes Sedai. In fact, when the Bore was made and the hole in the Dark One's prison were created, Rand's ancestor said specifically that they failed. I had always found that odd; what had they failed to do? How? Beyond just keeping the Aes Sedai cautious, which you can tell people to be careful as much as you'd like, but I can't imagine that the Aes Sedai would always listen. A few days ago, I finally read River of Souls. (M…

What would you use cuendillar for? Let's assume that you can create any amount of it, but it has to be craftable from iron. Also keep in mind that the process of creating cuendillar fuses chain links together, so creating things with mobile joints would be tricky. My ideas: Arrow heads: simple and cheap to make, make the tip as sharp as possible to punch through armor. Cannons: since cuendillar is indestructible, cuendillar cannon tubes can be made with a very thin iron sheet, making it a lot cheaper and light than bronze-cast cannons. Building frames: theoretically, with cuendillar beams and supports…

  6. Started by Urielle,

Fondest hello to fellow fans! I'm writing not having recently read the series, but having never been able to get the series out of my mind since reading it. I first picked up WoT as a teenager and remember waiting anxiously for each new release to be published (including waiting many years into adulthood for it to finally be finished). I then read the series again a few years ago back-to-back. It's been three years or so since I put the series down and I compare every other book I read in the genre to WoT. I fear I'll never again be as enveloped in a world like that which Jordan created. I often walk to a close by fantasy book store and ask, "what would you recommend…

  7. Please share your favorite character in WOT with all of us! I know the choices are limited! I know that similar polls may be running (but not with all above choices), and if Mods decide to close this poll, I have no objection! But We really want to know from 20 most likely candidates, who wins!! May the poll begin!!!

Abilities The Aiel are described to be very tall (average height ~6'6"), have pale natural skin, and red hair. They all seem to have peak-human endurance, being able to out-run horses at long distance (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_versus_Horse_Marathon, most of the winners are horses). They are very resistant to heat and cold, being able to endure the baking sun of the day and the freezing cold of the night, often naked. Aes Sedai are said to be able to do this with a mental trick that had nothing to do with channeling, but we have never seen any non-channeler being able to do this "trick". In Rand's Rhuidean visions, there is …

I want this to be a thread about little things people have noticed in WoT; things that have no real consequence, but you noticed them anyway. I'll begin with a couple of my own-- The color purple doesn't seem to exist *anywhere* in the Wheel of Time. However, orange might, as one Sea Folk Wavemistress was described as wearing "reddish-yellow" silk (though it was later described as "red and yellow"). The only characters described as having red hair, not counting the Aiel, are also from Saldaea. Also, feel free to point out any observations that may be wrong--as an example, I'd love for someone to find purple in WoT. It's my favorit…

  10. Started by Talmanes,

So I'm toward the end of KoD in my reread and recently finished the whole Shaido plot, and I can't for the life of me figure out why Galina did what she did. The whole time she is there she is trying to get the Oath Rod 2.0 so she can be released from her Oath to one the Wise Ones, she even mentions that since Morgase can Channel she'll be able to use that. Then she finally gets it, and just decides to leave Faile and Co. for dead and just head for the Tower? Why? What on Earth is the point? It could be speculated that you have to have the same Oath Rod to remove an oath you took on it (though I don't think that was ever confirmed that I recall), b…

  11. Started by Bloody Mat Cauthon,

Is there a list of how each country in WoT ranks them like stripes, or house ranking as major vs minor houses?

  12. Started by Wulf,

Is it ever shown 'how' the Seanchan test women? How is it that the suldam weren't caught in any reasonable testing method? If they just walked through crowds 'feeling' for women who could channel, they'd find the suldam. Several Aes Sedai report being able to tell they can channel, so that can't be their method. The most obvious method is to just slap an adam on everybody. Anybody that can walk a step, you're free to go. But they obviously don't do that or the suldam would've been found out immediately. I can't think of any test that wouldn't catch both groups at once. On a related note, what's up with the male adam? Ca…

I recently had a large knife made for use in my martial arts weapons forms. It is almost long enough to be a short sword (but not a short sword). The blade is 12" carbon steel, and the handle adds another 6" - made from authentic trolloc bone. https://imgur.com/DeulLw5 https://imgur.com/eKcbrng https://imgur.com/HgPeX0b And for those of you that haven't seen the spears I had made, I'm including those as well. Still have to make the shield though. Spear head is 12" long including the socket, and the shaft is another 30". I still have to make the shield that goes with them. https://imgur.com/XWIwOdf https://imgur.com/2…

The Fremen were an obvious inspiration for the Aiel, but found another reference while reading through 'Dune' today. When Gurney Halleck was considering whether to sign on with some smugglers, he was offered some advice. Don't rush into revenge - "Speed is a device of Shaitan." That name sounds familiar...

  16. I'm just starting the final book and we're introduced to the "not-quite Aiel" with mysterious powers. If I have to guess, I'd assume the Aiel's practice of sending their male channelers alone to attack the dark one's place of power has been ill-advised, but we'll find out. More importantly, why the hell would anybody file down their teeth into points? Sure, it's threatening, but imagine living like that. Unless they leave a few molars unfiled, then maybe I could see adapting to it. But really, even smiling would hurt like hell with all the cold air rushing over the exposed tooth. And forget about ever eating ice cream again. …

  17. Started by Talmanes,

So in my reread I was at the Cleansing and for the first time I recall in the series we hear the term 'net' when referring to weaves if the Power. It starts with the Forsaken, then the Asha'man and Aes Sedai, then seems to keep being used. Am I crazy or did that term just come out of nowhere? I don't recall it being used before but it seems to be used often after that point.

  18. So at the end of LTT's assault on Shayol Ghul, the Forsaken are trapped, but not killed, in the sealing. My question is would the Chosen have fared better if they had been killed outright and allowed to be reborn (albeit with their memories wiped) vs living with memories of an age that had long since passed. I'm of the opinion that they would have given the fact that little of that technology survived in the first place and that they were so focused on the past they completely ignored what the new world had to offer. I don't know if it would have been enough to turn the battle, but it would have definitely be a lot closer.

  19. So, what if when Lews Therin was sealing the DO, he had used the eye? Or rather, a pool of Saidin, seperate from the source? While he and the hundred companions might still have been driven insane, the source itself wouldn't have been, would it? Following along the line of thinking, If that process had been used so that Lews could have had happy little pools of Saidin and Saidar, could he have made a stronger seal that lasted for a few thousand years longer?

  20. I had a thought the other day and wanted to share with everyone: What songs, albums, or media could poetry characters, scenes, or other aspects of Wheel of Time? I'll go first! Damane: Freak on a Leash - Korn Also for Damane: Pet - A Perfect Circle Semirhage: Reptile - Nine Inch Nails Lews Therin: Diary of a Mad Man I'm sure I'll think of a few more, but I'd love to hear what everyone else is thinking!

Sorry if this has been discussed before that I didn't see, but I have been really curious as to any further purpose to the Amayar all committing suicide (other than to be another thorn in Rand's side in getting the Sea Folk to do their job). I cannot really think of anything, so was wondering if anybody else had any thoughts. Also, the only reason I can think of Alviarin having gone to Tremalking (before Saidin was cleansed I believe) would have something to do with the Choedan Kal there, but nothing seem to come of it. I vaguely remember her thinking her trip was futile or a waste of time or something, but could she have had some other purpose there?

  22. ...you can name all the Forsaken, their real names in the AoL, their jobs, the order in which they joined the Shadow, and their reincarnations. ...you can draw a map of Randland from memory, with the arrow pointing to the Isles of the Seafolk...south of Illian. ...you know all the female channelers stronger than Nynaeve. ...you practice pronouncing the Old Tongue and everybody's names. ...you practice ji'eh'toh in real life, giggling like crazy in elevators and muttering "gai'shan! gai'shan!"

    Started by Guest Pagerunner,

Brandon Sanderson was at BookCon last month, and somebody asked him a Wheel of Time question that the audio recorder didn't pick up very well: If you follow the link in the "source," you can play back that portion of the recording. (Warning, there's a lot of ambient noise from other parts of the con.) The part in brackets is what the transcriber thought Brandon was saying, but they were unsure about. I don't think it makes any sense as currently transcribed; it seems to me like it should be a place, somewhere Rand went after the end of the series. I'm much more of a Brandon fan than a Wheel of Time fan, so I'm having a hard time coming up with a plau…

  24. Started by TheSociopath,

So. At the end of the series, Rand gets a new body, and can go frolic wherever he pleases. But, isn't that the body of a FORSAKEN? Why is there not a panic as the world tries to catch ISHAMAEL? Also, as Elayne was the only one of Rand's lovers to actually get his kids before he got a new body, how do any of the other Dragon lineages get going? Maybe they just don't in this timeline, but if they did, how does anyone accept that?

Keep it PG-13! I got the idea from the Elayne thread, where someone said she was hot. Figured it deserved a thread of its own. So, which character from the Wheel of Time series do you find the HOTTEST? Like I said in the other thread, I'd choose Graendal. She's smoking hot, and is described as being a "little fleshy." Which is how I like it. No bony women for me. But a VERY close second would be Lanfear when she's ressurected as Cyndane. Can you imagine Lanfear(described as the most beautiful woman in the world at the time of The Breaking) as a subservient lil' doll!? I CAN. What do you guys/gals think? Don't forget that Aran'gar, although female, use to be a…

  26. The fact that lung cancer, and other smoking-based diseases are not common causes of death in the WOT world have lead to many fans to assume that tobac do not have the same daangers as it's real world counterpart, but this is just idiotic. You have to remember that in that world that anyone who suffers from a deadly disease can simply request healing from the Aes Sedai. The Aes Sedai get people coming to them in thousands to make such requests. It is literally the job of the Yellow Ajah to heal people. They likely heal their fair share of cancers.

I started a thread about 'Wheel of Time' and 'Lord of Rings' similarities; that thread I intend to return to that topic, any Middle-Earth book would be relevant to that topic. This thread is less restrictive. This thread shall be about similarities with any fiction. Only limit I set for this thread is that you have read on which you comment on. The mentioned similarities may not have been what Robert Jordan intended, yet this thread is not to debate that. I just have one for right now:: Padan Fain, his name Ordeith means wormwood; CS Lewis's Screwtape Letters has a character named Wormwood.

So, I'm reading through Lord of Chaos at the moment. None of the cover art is particularly good, but this one kinda crosses the line into 'trashy romance' territory. My wife's made a few joking comments about it, and then she finally decided to open it up to a random page and read a sampling. Anybody want to place bets on which page she opened it to? If you guessed "Gawyn gently laying Egwene down in a dream-meadow", come and collect your prize. So there's my story.... Anybody else ever feel less than proud to be waving these books around?

I was wondering what everyone thought of Mazerim Taim. I know he's a darkfriend, and he clearly becomes on of the Chosen, but I have a feeling he wasn't always evil. Rand was always horrible to Taim, and not just because of LLT. I don't remember the exact line, but Rand said that even without LLT raving about killing Taim in his head, he didn't trust or like him. So my question is this: was Taim a darkfriend before, or did Rand mistreat him to the point that he defected to the Shadow, recruited dreadlords and became M'hael of the Chosen? Edit: just realized I posted in the wrong topic, sorry

  30. We all know that RJ borrowed certain concepts from Dune. This is not news. Neither is this a condemnation. In fact, I admire the way RJ was inspired by Dune and created something distinct and totally different from the original wellspring. The Big Three that he borrowed from Dune are as follows: The Desert Warriors, The Sisterhood and the Messiah. I will now proceed to compare and contrast the three. 1) The Sisterhood The White Tower Aes Sedai and the Bene Gesserit share many traits but are fundamentally different entities, only similar in markings and trappings but not in mechanics. They are both exclusive sororities that surround themselves in t…
