I recently had a thought that I would like opinions on (all are welcome) as I am working on a theory about ta'veren and the Shadow. Here goes: Was Hawkwing a ta'veren until he died or did he stop being one after a certain point (say after his conquests were complete)? If he was, what corrective mechanism did he serve for the Wheel as a pawn to Ishamael who was influencing/compelling him in the guise of an advisor? If he was a ta'veren till he died and he of course was being compelled by Ishy, then would this mean that Ta'veren can be Darkfriends? Yes, I know its alot of questions but I would like your thoughts on it. I'm basically trying to proo…

Rand gave Perrin several and sure he knows that Mat had the Band with him earlier, but why not send an Ash'aman also to help out and carry messages? I know that Rand was busy "Making Babies" the last time he saw Elayene but surely he should have asked/she should have told him/or Nynaeve should have later, that they left Mat in Ebou Dar. Rand can "see" Mat via the "colors" surely he could do that several times in a row & then send the Ash'aman to the general area? He does have several Ash'amen from Two Rivers that would recognize Mat. It just seems week to me that he has not done this. What do you think?

  3. Did the Dark One change his mind about this? In New Spring the Dark One's intent was to kill the Dragon Reborn even if he had to kill everyone that seemed lucky etc. ishamael certainly wanted him dead although he did talk about turning too. At the moment the Dark One wants chaos to rule which makes sense to me, but why does he seemingly want Rand to be alive at the last battle? With chaos ruling Rand can't win, so that's fine, I understand that, but why have him there in the first place? If he were dead then the Dark One could break free and no one would oppose him. That seems to have been the tactic at the start. has the Dark One changed his mind? Or is the Dark …

  4. Please tell me what you all think of my interpertaion of this. Egwene unites the tower, casting out the Black Ajah along with Elaida, who has gone totaly Almonds. And with the changes she has made, all the novices, her plans for the Kin, and associations with the Windfinders and Aiel Wise Ones, makes it much stronger. Rand comes to the Tower, and Egwene goes off on him for the sisters who were bonded, and possiably for Tiam if that has been delt with by then. The Black tower itself will be the site of a battle between Taim's darkfriend followers and those loyal to Rand under the command of Logain. What Do you all Think? [glow=green,1,500]Da…

First of all, Elayne is not my favorite character although I like the humorus things that happen to her (being pregnant for one thing) Alot of things I have read on these forums have her as a whinny spoiled brat who's used to getting things her way and assuming people will do what she wants. SHE IS A PRINCESS!!! That is how she is supposed to act. She assumes that she can put herself in danger and somebody will come to her aid because that is what happens to princesses. I think as a member of a royal family that she is pretty levelheaded as most go. She put up with a lot during the time in the WT and she has the sense to see if someone knows better than she to …

In LoC. Egwene has a dream about a hard faced Seanchan woman handing her the collar and bracelet. Even though this is not mentioned as one of her true dreams, I think this is important. Egeanin knows many things, not the least of which is the fact that adam will control Suldam as well as Damane. This is rapidly becoming common knowledge as Rand sent collared Sul Dam back to Ebou Dar after capturing Semihrage. Egwene also had a dream that she is hanging from a ledge and a Seanchan woman climging down to help her. I think both of these dreams point to a meeting between Egeanin and Egwene. Egeanin is going to "give" Egwene the key to deafeating the Seanchan. …

Taim said that he was going to match the WT. Has he done that yet? I think that Taim only has 40 to 50 of his special Ash'amen, but all the rest are Rand's/Logain's surely that is several hundred, maybe even 500 or so. Does anyone have a better guess - reference?

  11. Hey everyone, had an interesting idea after listening to one of the podcasts yesterday: What if Verin is Black Ajah, and she is after the Horn of Valere? I've always thought that Verin acted a bit strange, even for an Aes Sedai. Now imagine this: In KOD, when we see her for the last time, she's on her way somewhere. Maybe to Mat, Thom, Olver? Let's say Mat rescues Moirraine; they exit the Tower of Genjei (or wherever they come out) and are set upon by Verin. If she is Black Ajah, she would be in an excellent position to take over the Horn from Mat (since it seems she knows exactly where it is and has been hiding it all along). If she manages to kill Mat (and Moirrai…

He died. I know Birgitte calls him 'horn sounder' but he did die when he was hanged. We haven't seen the horn since then, so do we know whether or not he's really still bound to it, or it to him? Just an idle thought, not really sure it makes a difference anyway most people would look past it because he's alive, but meh!

No one is perfect, and I think one of Robert Jordan's talents was honestly portraying this in his characters. However, some of his characters are more selfless, wise, and have more integrity than others. We seem to spend a lot of time debating who is best on this forum anyway. My question is, which one of Rand's women do you think has the most flawed character? Why?

Ok, Mat has all these memories, did the Eelfinn let him tap into his old lives or other mens? Has Mat always been reborn to be military leader, much like Birgitte to always use the bow? 1. He was speaking fluent Old Tongue shortly after leaving the Two Rivers. 2. Tuon ask him if HE saw the face of Artur Hawkwing, not another man. Lidda foreseen this to Tuon. If they were other men's memories how she could she see this if it was someone else's memory? 3. Aelfinn prophecy - to die and live once more as a part of what once was. 4. He ask to fill HIS missing memories refilled 5. Mat's ashandarei says "Thought is the arrow of time, MEMORY NEVER FADES, What was…

I've been thinking about individuals and their usefulness. Obviously we are all very caught up in the sub-plots and side-stories that each character is going through, but I wanted to consider each individual and their purpose when TG comes. I found that overall, we (the Light) have many many skills which maybe we had overlooked. You've probably already thought of this but just bear with me ;) Rand - the DR, channeller, born to be the martyr of the Light. Obvious really Mat - has acquired exceptional skill and knowledge as a general. Knows battle tactics and ways of controlling an army which have been lost through the generations. Will likely control Rand'…

Ladies and Gents, Boys and Girls, Can I please make a call for a little bit of restraint? I have seen two threads recently disrupted as a result of a bit of bickering. Please remember that nobody knows what RJ intended to happen in the story, with the possible exception of his family and BS. As a result nobody has the right to point blank state that someone is wrong. If you can't back it up with a quote from the books or RJ don't waste your time. It's totally unproductive. It kills the thread. It discourages insane theories (some of which lots of people enjoy reading if only for fun rather than insight). Secondly, try to be respectful. Being conde…

In book 8 Rand accidentally mutters something about cleansing the taint and being given a riddle. Do you think Rand speaks metaphorically here or did the snakes give him a riddle when he asked his questions? Since the snakes freaked out with all those people in their realm at the same time, we don't really know whether Rand got three questions, but I guess his questions were: How do I win the last battle and survive, How can I cleanse the tain on saidin, and one other question. Does anyone recall whether we are every told the riddle, if it is a literal riddle. We are told the answer to the winning the last battle and surviving question but I don't recall the ridd…

I was just thinking about Rand and his plan with the Seanchan. I also thought about Mat and Perrin's recent Seanchan dealings and one thing about each occured to me. Through out the series it has been stressed that ta'veren get what they need often before they know they need it. Perrin had this happen with the map of Altera, and Mat had it happen with the Band of the Red Hand most recently. Perrin will probably assume that Rand will be upset over his dealings with the Seanchan. Mat may likely have similar beliefs about his marrige. But I think Rand will be happy for Mat, and be pleased with Perrin's temporary alliance, and that both events will pro…

  19. So I've said most of this before, though not for some time, and an idle comment by Robert got me thinking about it again. In any case, my premise in this thread is that was know WoT is in our future (and our past, but ill leave that discussion for another time). But that being said, it is never stated how our world came to be the world we know and love other than that it was the appearence of the ability to channel that ended the first age. So that is where we leave what is directly cited, and yet still there are certain things we know. What We Know 1. A cataclysm did indeed occur. Whilst we don't know much of the geographical landscape of the Age of Legends, we…

Sorry about the title, it has no relevance to the topic. This has been bugging me for a while and I want to know what you think. In Tarmon Gaidon there will be a lot of flicking around different points of view. In this time -unless Rand and Moridin merge- the forsaken are probably going to get killed. I have been trying to work out what will happen to Moridin. ::) Presumably, one of the only people that would be able to defeat Moridin in an open battle would be Rand. This would be a very exciting and interesting fight ;D. I suspect though that one of Rand's lieutenants, such as Logain or even someone who can't channel will despatch him. Unless another Forsaken REA…

I was rereading KOD and was wondering what made the dice in Mat's head change. At first it only let him know of one event at a time. Now it's lets him know of three or four, so why the change. Could it have to do with the last battle coming near.

This may be a little far fetched but as I read through the wheel of time more and more I'm starting to think that it is set on planet Earth in the future. My main reason being that he draws names from all over the place when he could have just as easy made up his own. But they are names we all recognize. And I may be wrong but in The Shadow Rising, I can't remember who it is off hand is walking around in the musuem in Tanchico they discribe something that is older that the AOL and it's discribed as a three pointed star inside a circle. They can't quite tell what it's made of thought, said it reminded of arrogance. That to me sounds like a mercadies benz hood ornamate. A…

Min has a viewing of Lan. It is the seven ruined towers of Malkier and "a babe clutching a sword" obviously Lan after the Death. My question is this. Why is Min haveing a viewing about something that has already happened. Her talent doesn't work that way does it? I know this will likely inflame all the "Malkiere is dead and Lan is on his way to join it" folks, but could this have actually been something to do with his future? If so, what. I highly doubt that what she was reading was simply that Agelmar was going to tell the story at the end of TEoTW.

So we know that Cadsuane's intention is to teach Rand 'Laughter and Tears'. In book 7/8 (I forget which) when she meets with Sorilea, they discuss this and make a 'pact' to work together to achieve it. They discuss that he must be taught it in order to survive. They state the difference between being 'hard', which is what Rand is now, and 'strong'. A hard man is brittle; he will shatter when enough pressure is applied, like a hard surface. A strong man has some give in him, but will not break under pressure. To be 'strong' Rand needs to allow some emotion in, he needs to be able to mourn, to cry and to laugh, to let it all out because keeping it all in wi…

  26. I'm in it to the bitter end no matter how ridiculous it gets. Before the bashing starts I'd like to explain my reasoning. Being a WOT fan I've naturally trawled these boards for a while now. Maybe a fews years, maybe less. Anyhow I've been privy to some particularly scintillating criticism of Terry "Goof-Kind" Goodkind. Now I was determined to see for myself if the rumors were true. Was Sword of Truth nothing more than WOT rewritten, reworded and repackaged so to speak? So I've read only a bit so far, just about 105 pages in. Okay precisely 105 pages in. You know what? I like it. SACRILEGE! I can see you know oiling your pitchforks and dipping your torches in kerosene pre…

Im tired and its late, I probably shouldn't be advancing a well though out theory, this way, but I figure I can add more later. I've long thought that Rand should become Amyrlin, and this would be a neat wrap up to the Egwene/Elaida and BT/WT conflicts. LTT was Amyrlin (or close to it) in the AoL, the prophecies speak of the Tower kneeling to him, and his symbol literally means he stands for a united male/female Aes Sedai front. That binging said, he avoids the Tower, distrusts female Aes Sedai, and tells the Ash'aman he wants no war with them. Maybe he is relying on Egwene to mediate a temporary alliance for him to fight TG, but she openly wants him to kneel to her, and …

I know this has been done before, but it all got a bit intense. The original thread also got moved. Apologies if anyone gets upset at seeing this again. It would seem to me that the Aiel practice of polygamy is a sensible way to go about things. Theirs is a very warlike society, with large numbers of men, and a smaller number of women, seeming to be constantly engaged in raids/warfare. Now, and this is a bit of speculation on my part, one would expect that, due to the constant warfare and the large proportion of men involved, there would be a larger proportion of women to men than you'd normally expect. Given the above (feel free to pull it apart if you wan…

I'm just querying something, it may be my understanding. To my understanding, what makes an AS 'of' a particular Ajah is to be raised to the Ajah by way of taking the oaths etc, am I right? So to be BA, the AS would (as far as we know) have been initiated to the Ajah somehow, and have taken the Oaths. Then they are AS, and are 'of' the BA (or any ajah). But at the beginning of book 9, Searin, Seaine, Pevara, Doseine and Yukiri are torturing Talene on the Chair of Remorse after she refused to re-take the Oath about saying no false word and say that she was not a darkfriend. She is hysterical, and she grabs the Oath Rod from... Pevara. She says something along th…

In "The Dragon Reborn" when Mat is taken to the White Tower and healed of the effects of the dagger from Shadar Logath it took about six or eight AS to heal him. I don't have my WOT books with me at the moment so I can't look it up, but I remember that it did tell who each AS was and her Ajah. The weird part is that not a single one of them was Yellow Ajah. So what's going on here? This was rather early in the series so does this mean that RJ had not yet decided that one of the Ajah's specialties would be healing?
