You always see Aes Sedai using sex to get information, or to lure men into trusting them, but you never hear of them getting pregnant, not even with Green sisters and their Warders, whom I do not believe would really mind having children together in most cases. So, do you think there is a way to prevent pregnancy using the One Power? That would be the easiest way to explain the lack of babies in a society which has no qualms screwing their way to power and influence.

The Aiel state that calling someone by half of their name is akin to calling them by a honey name. So if that's the case, why don't they always address one another by name, sept, and clan? Wetlanders by full name, and all Aiel by their honey names? Doesn't make any sense.

What would have happened if the romantic relationships in the series was different? Nynaeve and Rand? Perrin and Egwene? Mat and Elayne? And Lanfear? Lan and Moiraine? Gawyn and Min?

It made no tactical sense. I never understood what Bornhald was trying to accomplish. He only had a thousand Children, while the Seanchan had several thousand troops in Falme. Even discounting the damane, the Whitecloaks would have been slaughtered.

I have started a reread of the series and decided for the first time to start with New Spring. Reading Chapter 3 I picked up on something odd. Moiraine felt that small tingle again as the light of saidar briefly surrounded the other woman. Any woman who could channel could feel another wielding the Power if she was close enough, but the tingle was unusual. Women who spent a lot of time together in their training sometimes felt it, but the sensation was supposed to fade away over time. Hers and Siuan’s never had. Sometimes Moiraine thought it was a sign of how close their friendship was. This tingling sensation for Moiraine and Siuan, …

I think that covers all options. If anyone has any other theories, let's hear them. For an 11 page discussion of the definition of "sent," see the post titled "Questions about Moiraine."

Dear Forum, During the battle of Cairhien, Rand is standing on his wooden tower with Egwene and Aviendha when it gets blasted to smithereens by Sammael.... in Illian. I'm trying to understand how this is possible. During the battle, on at least 2 occasions, someone is reflecting on how hard it is to channel at a distance. One of those people is Rand, the freaking Dragon Reborn, arguably the most powerful male channeler in existence. If he's having trouble channeling at a moderate distance, how can Sammael channel lightning bolts out of the Cairhienen sky from Illian? Thanks in advance, Dale

From AMOL: Too weak. Each shield was too weak, and yet their attacks had him worried. They had come quickly, at least three dozen Dreadlords, each trying to cut him off from the Source. This was dangerous—that they had anticipated him. That was why they had hit Lan so hard with channelers. To draw Rand out. Rand fought off the attacks, but none of them were in danger of truly shielding him. A single person could not cut off someone holding as much saidin as he was. They should have . . . He saw it right before it happened. The other attacks were cover, feints. One that was coming would be created by a circle of men and women. A man would be leading. …

Starting my reread over from scratch because it's been several months since I have read Shadow Rising. I'm reading the Prologue now and am wondering if the Tinkers song was known during the Age of Legends? On Page Two it reads: We know that the Aiel had served and failed the Aes Sedai, and that the Aiel fractured into several societies one of them being the Tuatha'an who spend their time in the series looking for their song. Was LTT referring to the lost song when he asked if the stranger had the "Voice" because it was time for the "Singing"?

Obviously Black Panther and the society of Wakanda were well established before the movie came out, but I think the way it is portrayed in said movie is strikingly similar to the Aiel. Of course, this could just be because both are the 'tribal outsider society' trope in their respective universes, but these are the points that I feel are too similar to just be coincidence: Far Dareis Mai and the Dora Milaje - Both are a society of warrior women, shaved nearly bald, that fight with spears exclusively and are responsible for protecting the leader of their people. Rhuidean and the Heart-Shaped herb - The heart-shaped herb in Black Panther is a sort of ph…

So prior to the events of WoT, male Aiel channelers went north to fight the Dark One and became the evil cannibals we saw in aMoL. Now that the Dark One is sealed away, what happens to them? Do they go to the Black Tower? Do they form an equivalent Wisemen's society?

Reading the companion, I have to wonder how any of the Red Ajah can consider themselves good people. 1. Red Ajah held their leader as the equal to the Amyrlin Seat 2. Were told to stop the male channeling program, where men were basicly gentled or killed on the spot. Many continued to do it. Secret tower records mentions 2000 men and boys killed, and the companion says that number was too low by a factor of 5 and maybe more. So looking at least 10,000 men and boys killed. Yes the BA started it but the Red continued willingly even after the BA stopped. Many of the victims were killed "trying to escape". 3. Assassinated an Amyrlin Seat in 984 N…

I was doing a reread of TOM and on Chapter 51 - A testing on page 749 I noticed this passage when Rand was talking to Min on route to Far Madding: "What difference?" He smiled. "This time I was raised better." Min found herself smiling as well. "You know me, Min. Well, I promise you, I feel more like myself now that I have in months. I feel more like myself than I ever did as Lews Therin, if that makes any kind of sense. It's because of Tam, because of the people around me. You, Perrin, Nynaeve, Mat, Aviendha, Elayne, Moiraine..." Egwene is noticeably absent in the people Rand lists. It cannot be because of proximity, Moiraine has been gone a long time and Ran…

Okay, so shortly before Moiraine tackles Lanfear through the twisted stone doorway, e was sneaking up on Lanfear. But right before she piledrivers into the Forsaken, she e!braces saidar. why??? So she was trying to sneak attack Lanfear, her entire gambit rested on her not being noticed and incinerated by the irate Forsaken. Embracing the source would have immediately drawn attention to her. I have some theories about this. 1) She wanted to be noticed to distract Lanfear from killing Rand. But wasn't that the entire point of attacking Lanfear bodily in the first place? Why risk her tackle for a momentary distraction? 2) Sh…

I have to admit to some really serious confusion here. Don't get me wrong, I love Moirraine. I loved her Gandalf-esque way of leaving the party. I love her calm solemnity, and her caring nature. I'm actually really upset that she did not get to see Rand at the end of the book; why couldn't her AND Cadsuane have seen Rand canter off at the end? Between her and the soon-to-be Amrylin, I think Moirraine deserved it more. She also deserves the Stole and Seat more too, but that's another gripe. But really, why, WHY was she needed in the cave confronting the Dark One? Nyaneave makes perfect sense; Immensely strong, helped cleanse Saidin, but why Mo…

Okay, so the official story is that Mat's bond with the horn was broken by his second death in tFoH when he was blasted by Rahvhin. But Mat died a first time when he was in Rhuidean and slobbered on by those Darkhounds if Moiraine is to be believed. Shouldn't that have severed it first?

He is born again! I feel him! The Dragon takes his first breath on the slopes of Dragonmount! He is coming! He is coming! Light help us! Light help the world! He lies in the snow and cries like the thunder! He burns like the sun!" - Gitara Moroso From Towers of Midnight: The window was broken. Bashere glanced out of it. “Lady Torkumen is down there.” “She jumped,” Torkumen whispered, clawing at his eye sockets, fingers covered with blood. He sounded dazed. “That light…That terrible light.” Ituralde glanced at Bashere. “I cannot watch it,” Torkumen muttered. “I cannot! Great Lord, where is your protection? Where are your armies t…

After Gitara Moroso foretells the birth of the Dragon Reborn and the White Tower issues the Bounty to all the women who'd given birth recently, was Kari al'Thor among the women whose name was gathered by the Accepted in their search? If so, why did she not recieve the 100 gold crowns (at least I couldn't find any evidence that she did)? Also, was she on Moiraine and Suian's secret list? If she was not on that list, how did Moiraine narrow it down to a boy in the Two Rivers? How could she possibly have tracked him down if was busy searching for the "hundreds" of other names on her list? She only had 20 years and at the end of New Spring: "So few names remained that were e…

Ok, so I am listening to AMoL right now and another question popped into my head. It was said that draghkar, trollocs, and other denizens of the Dark One cannot pass through gateways and live. When Fortuona and the Seanchan return to Mat at the Last Battle, the flying creatures soared through gateways. (Which honestly, how can the Seanchan make large gateways when they can only use one damane and sul'dam as the a'dam prohibits any further linking? That's a question unto itself!) How did they do that and not drop dead? It was said in multiple books, by sideways allusion, and the Forsaken that the Seanchan chained the Shadowspawn on their continent.

Im sure that this topic has been posted here at some point, but I don't see it anywhere recent, so here it goes. It's safe to assume that everyone here likes the WoT, but nothing is perfect. And if there is even something small that bugs you about the books, it probably really got on your nerves over the course of 14 long books. So be it something about Jordan/Sanderson's writing style, some annoying character trait, or the way the paperback covers looked, what was the thing you disliked most about the Wheel of Time? But no major spoilers please, so if the thing you hate the most is how the book ended, or a plot hole in some major storyline element, try and b…

But that won't stop me from doing so! Ok, so it took me over 15 years of reading and re-reading the books to realize exactly what was going on with Rand throughout the books. Rand was going through the steps of grieving that many endure when given a diagnosis of a terminal illness. The most popular/well known version of this is the Kübler-Ross model: 1. Denial – The first reaction is denial. In this stage, individuals believe the diagnosis is somehow mistaken, and cling to a false, preferable reality. (Books 1, 2, and a portion of 3) 2. Anger – When the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue, they become frustrated, especially at…

I almost believe the last chapters in the last book are written in hurry and skipped so many explanations or wait was it intentional?( dont think so). For example, can you 1.explain how in the light did Rand light his pipe? He tried to use saidin or saidar but did not work then he just wished and it happened. 2.Did he happened to be sth. Like DO or creator by mixing the 3 powers? 3.So is he almost immortal like ashamans and aes sedais? First I thought he changed hall nature of the powers so that aes sedais and ashamans would use the same way but it seems that nynaive and others which tried to heal him used their same old power in the same way.so he must have only cha…

In the prologue, the fact that Ishamael states that he and LTT had fought over countless ages points to the fact that the surviving Chosen are reborn into the same role. Do they live normal lives after death until then? Or are they held somewhere by the Dark One between turnings. And we know that they are not all originals. Some of them were destroyed by balefire, so they can't be reborn, and Taim became one as M'Hael. So how old do you think the Chosen actually were? I am not talking how old they are in their current lifetimes, but how many lifetimes each of them had spent as Chosen. Ishmael is likely the oldest overall, since he seems to be …

Imagine there's this girl you really like. Imagine she's dating this guy, and she really seems to care for him, and she doesn't seem to care about you at all. Then you learn that this guy killed your mom and is making moves on your sister. Pretty creepy, right? That's what Gawyn felt, and that's why he kept believing Rand killed his mother despite everyone telling him differently. Gawyn needed a justification for hating Rand. Imagine you're on a road trip with a buddy, except you have no money and you're being chased by the mafia. He took care of you when you were temporarily blinded, and you took care of him when he fell suddenly ill. You went through some pr…

Okay, so I was reading over at the wikia about the Dragon's Peace barring any sort of conflict and I'm wondering if that's a mass simplification of what it really did, which was to bar any conflict between nations. If you believe Nicola's prophecy then the wikia's description is also off. Could a nation go to civil war without violating the treaty so long as both sides did not involve other nations? I'd also like to point out another flaw in the Peace, namely that it does not provide for an alternative means by which sides can resolve their conflict short of war. I think this would have been a great place to write the Tinkers in as the judges, but maybe that hap…

Anyone have any interesting ideas about where their souls come from? Rand feared they were simply men reborn, but Mordeth/Fain/Shaisam noted how non filling their souls were. Could they be the ground up souls of Dark Friends? I doubt the Shadow can truly create a soul so I'm guessing they come from somewhere.
