I have a sort of stupid question - and I don't know if it's been discussed before, but does Egwene plan to marry Gawyn? I can see her bonding him as a warder, but a married Amyrlin sounds a bit odd, (not that their relationship as warder and Aes Sedai will change their feelings for each other.) I don't know what to think, really. Any thoughts?

Why are Myrddraal referred to as "it" instead of "he"? Unlike Trollocs, they're known to be all male. I know they aren't human, but horses are referred to by gender. Please aid me in my confuzzlement. :?

Okay, so far I'm in the middle of CoT, and I've noticed that RJ bounces around a lot about who's the strongest in the OP and who is the best at healing, etc. so I basically get confused. This is our list: Egwene Elayne Aviendha Nynaeve Sharina Alivia Talaan Another Windfinder apprentice Nicola Sumeko I think I got most of them. So at first, Nynaeve was supposedly the stongest and whatever, but was bumped down by Sharina and then Alivia. Okay, but then all of a sudden Talaan, who was supposed to equal her in strength, now has a higher potential because she is still young, according to Nynaeve. However, Nynaeve finds out that Talaan isn't actually as y…

Hey all, After some discussion on the Community staff board, we've decided to make some changes to how we run the Book Discussion forums. We're going to keep this board as a General, all purpose WoT discussion forum. People may freely post theirs thoughts, impressions and theories without restriction here. After the first of the year, we'll be switching the KoD board over to a strictly moderated board. Only moderators may post new topics, but any user can respond to a topic. We'll seed the board with a few starter topics on the big debates, the major characters and each book. The threads will be kept strictly on topic. If a tangent pops up that you'd like …

Well I read both series and one thing that stabbed me in the eye was the amazing similarities between the two in the bases of character buildup and storyline. Especially in the beginning of the WoT series. 1) Paul Atreides is the prodigy of millenia's gene breeding projects, unknown even to the ones running it. He has the ability to see through the past and see the memories of all his ancestors, and even the memories of his future children. He can look into the past, present and future at the same time. Normally only certain women, Bene Gesserit, a witch order that lives on a secluded planet possess such ability (but only to see their females they are related to in…

I was wondering recently if Mat's luck might actually be an inborn tallent similar to Min's veiwings, Perrin's wolfbrotherism, and Egwene's dreamwalking. What do you think?

In the beginning of TeoTW, Mat covers dogs with flour and tells people "ghost hounds" are on the loose. I don't recall hearing anything about such creatures after that. Do they have anything to do with anything, or were they just put in as an example of the legends Two Rivers people believed in? :?

  9. Forgive me if I am wrong or I have missed something in error. In the Book Shadow Rising you first encounter Luc/Slayer. He looks some what like Lan in the world of Dreams. However he appears much older. I think this may be more than coincidence. It is very likely that this is Lans father, brother, or kin in some way. However Perrin makes remarks about Slayer looking a little like Rand. Tigarine was Rands mother who was daughter heir to Andor who ran away to become a Maiden of the Spear. Her brother followed her to the waste where he was thought to have died. We know he lived long enough to kill Rands biological father after his mothers death. Him living long…

I was thinking about how far the main characters have gone since the beginning and it got me pondering the loyalties of them all to Rand. If they had to make a choice between Rand and their new found passion/love what would it be? Nynaeve- Rand, Lan, or Healing? I think she would in a heartbeat choose Rand. Egwene- Rand, or the White Tower? Again, Rand Mat- Rand, Tuon, his idea of freedom from Taveren? I used to think Rand, but all this talk about Mat being Hawkwing reborn has me pondering other thoughts. Perrin- Rand or Faile? Faile, which is why I have grown to dislike Perrin in the last few books. The world be damned if it means Faile's safety. He w…

I read New Spring first because a local store had hardback copies of the book for a dollar and I figured if I hated the guys writing it would only be a dollar wasted. I didn't get very far before I knew that I loved the book and found Path Of Daggers cheap and bought it. I knew that I would make it to at least there reading them. Do you guys think I would have gotten more out of the books by reading Eye of the World first?

"His blood on the rocks of Shayol Ghul, washing away the Shadow, sacrifice for man's salvation." pg.99 The Shadow Rising. What if the use of the word "blood" is being used like the word "kin". It is not an uncommon use of the word in the english language. Also take into account that Elayne is pregnant with Rands child. Her giving birth at Shayol Ghul could very well complete this prophecy. This Prophecy also does'nt seem to specify a specific "His" which could also lead to Rands infant son fulfilling the prophecy in some way. Just a few things to think about with book 12 on its way. This will be answered soon.

  16. Now that Mat and Perrin have accomplished their personal goals, it is time for the three to be reunited again. Physically they are in proximity of each other in Altara yet there is danger lurking. How could this reunification take place. 1) Mat... Mat is heading north towards the Tower of Ghenji in an attempt to rescue Moiraine. He also needs to contact Rand to fulfill his promise to Aludra about having Dragons made. Galad is in in Nothern Ghealdean heading north seeking anyone who is fighting the Seanchan. Galad will and the Whitecloaks will come upon the remains of one of Mat's battles adn pursue Mat to link up with him. Mat and Galad met in the Dragon Reborn …

Ok, the last few books (and the entire series) has been building upp for a climactic battle. Ok, this is crazy, but I doubt there really will be a crazy climactic war. To finish the series in one book (even a huge book) seems pretty unlikley if there's going to be a huge battle against the DO. I think that we are going to have the first 2k pages wrapping up the Seanchan, Ashaman, and Aes Sedai, and then we have Rand and Company vs. the reincarnated forsaken, remake the DO's prison, and hopefully a depressing ending.

Forgive me if this has been answered somewhere. Does anyone know where the expression "blood and ashes" comes from? I've been looking since I started reading WoT a few years ago and haven't had any luck. I understand "bloody" and "flaming" as being mainly British slang, but I can't find an origin for blood and ashes. Is it something RJ just made up or is it actually used somewhere in the world?

Apparently the only people that enter the ter'angreal are gamblers and men of great daring, and most were gre…

  21. I was going through my audiobooks of the series instead of doing a fifth re-read and spotted something that I had never noticed before, when Egwene is being tested to be an accepted she sees herself in the mirror with an ageless face. Now i understand that it is a different world, but all of the rules (as far as we've seen) seem to be the same, it's just the situation that changes. She later on in the passage tells her keeper of the chronicles that she never swore the 3 oaths... I could have sworn that it was the oath rod that gave the ageless face and that it was just delayed ageing that channeling saidar gave women. anyone able to shed any light? …

I've only just finished FOH, so please don't spoil anything. My favorite part in that particular book was with Rand and Aviendha, she, "hated him" so much, but yet you knew that she couldn't, and there was so much banter between them, funny!!! But I also loved it when Mat kicked Galad's AND Gawyn's pretty-boy arses. Heh, and after that he was not able to support himself without his staff, but faked it. That was nice.

Hey guys, first post! I just finished book eleven and decided to go look for forums which I didn't do before to avoid spoilers. Anyway I noticed something strange about the weaponry in the books: there's no shields! The only thing I can remember is in the first book we see Jagad Agelmar's armor and his weapons and he has a big two-handed over-the-top sword on the one hand and he has kind of like a morningstar weapon with a big kiteshield I think it was. I think that's the only time we saw a shield, maybe I'm wrong. This to me is quite paradoxical linguistically because shielding and being shielded means to be blocked off from the Power (and is used very r…

Elayne, Egwene, and Nynaeve seem to be really disliked among many WOT fans. Personally I love the girls. They are among some of my favorites. Also it seems that you cannot be in between on this... you either love them or hate them... so which is it for you? Even though it seems the majority either love or hate the girls I will make a third option....

I just don't like her. I finished KOD and she really angers me. Did I miss something? Because she decided to go after the Blach Ajah and the dark friends with them, many people died and many were injured. I find her arrogant. Maybe she knew (somhow) they would come after her, if she didn't go after them first? Or maybe she is just arrogant and figured, why not go after them, not much will happen to her, Min said so. If it wasn't for Dyelin she wouldn't be Queen of Andor. Dyelin would make a better queen.

Which of the following do you think is true? (This post is for those who believe that Be'lal = Taim. Please do not submit arguments as to why Be'lal is not Taim on this thread.) A). Be'lal and Taim were always one and the same. Up until he was killed by Moiraine in Tear he was leading a double life as both High Lord Sammon and as Mazrim Taim (Rember he could Travel so he would have been able to pull it off). After he was killed Be'lal was transmigrated into a random new body and once agian took on the identity of his alter ego Mazrim Taim. B).
