Hi all. Im on my 7th (or something) re-read/audio of TWOT series and im a little bit puzzled regarding the Song of the Tuatha'an. Already in the beginning of the series, TEOTW, one gets to know that the no 1 quest for the travelling people is to find The Song. It is clear for, at least me, that the song reffering to, is the song to create trees and flowers e t c. .i.e. bring Life to the World. This is very clear during Rand's visit in to the pillars in Rhuiedan and also in AMOL, when the Ogier and Rand bring forth trees and flowering with help of a song. The last sentences about Raen and Ila is that they search for wounded on the last battleground, that will say…

Greetings! I'd like to finish the Wheel of Time series. I got a bit tired of it around the same time the dead big bad guys started getting replaced—that was also around the time when critics started to wonder if Jordan wasn't milking the series for financial gain. Not that I agreed, but I decided I was going to quit reading until he finished. I wasn't going to read 30 massive novels that were all largely the same. Neither when he died nor when I heard that the seies had been completed did I return. I honestly didn't miss the series. If you couldn't tell, I'm not the biggest fan, but I do want to finish what I started several years ago. Is there a good list …

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I just started to read The Shadow Rising. and now this question occurred again (it already occurred while reading The Great Hunt): Can a damane kill her sul'dam? Of course the damane herself would be killed, too. But as far as I understood how an a'dam works (it does not prevent using the Power against her sul'dam, but it hurts the damane twice as strong), a damane should be able to kill her sul'dam in order to be released from her pain.

I'm fascinate by this relationship and its evolution. From my first reading, I don't recall any history of the beginnings of the damane/sul'dame. Any one know how this started? I vaguely recall that the girls are tested early to see if they can feel anything through the a'dam but I don't remember much. Specifically, I wonder how the testing works since both those born able to channel and those able to learn can feel through the a'dam. How, in all these years, have they not figured out that both parties can channel? It makes little sense. How could they test so that only learners become damane and birthers are sul'dame? Also, how are a'dam made? Where do they come …

Four years ago, we were presented with news that "The Wheel of Time to Be Re-Released With New Art". You stated back then: Fans told you that TOR should re-release the series with the e-book covers (and you should replace the weak ones too) but nobody cared about their reaction. Now, it is clear that the new edition is a huge failure. Is there any chance that TOR will release new paperback, or mass-market paperback, or hardcover editions with the e-book covers which cover the full front covers?

One thing straight off: This is not a thread to complain about how much of a let down Fain was. It has been sufficiently noted in multiple threads. Yes, everyone knows Fain was a major disappointment to a lot of people. Do not turn this into a RJ/BS hate thread on Fain. This thread is for actual discussion about the nature of Padan Fain. Or I should say Shaisam. In the old tounge, the name Shaisam combines two words. "Shadow" in "Shai" and "Destroyer" in "Sam". We learn much of the evil of Shaisam. It is an old enemy of the Shadow - and of the Dragon. Yet at the same time it is something new. Created from a "seed". Also something to note is that M…

Hi, I am new to this forum and thought I share the journey of binding all books in leather. As the original leather bound books are hard to come by and I am a friend of having all of them the same style, feel and look, I decided to have them rebound in leather. Browsing through a couple of bookbinders, I finally decided that it would be much more fun to actually do this on my own. I have bound a couple of books in the past and know how to work with leather. So why not giving it a try. While not the very best material to work from, I got a good deal on the whole set on Amazon for the hardcover versions. I have spent the last days to remove the original cases and …

(started by szilard, not a mod) Well, I'd like to talk about bodily functions. Bear with me. Jordan usually does not talk about these functions, but let's take a look at TEOTW, Ch 45. Or at any situation, when they are in the Ways. They are in the Ways, and while they don't eat much, they drink tea/water, so they have to urinate a lot. Plus stress etc. (I cannot image that how they do number two.) Do not misunderstand me, I do not miss these scenes, but how do you envisage these happenings? - Er ... - Just Moi, Rand. Just Moi. - Moi, er ... - Get it out, Rand. What's your problem? - I need to pee. - Oh! Don't worry, I will happily assist you. - WE need to pee too!

I was reading aMoL and I wondered what happens when two channelers of the same gender bond each other. I mean, we get an example with Androl and Pevara as to what would happen if an AS and an AM bonded each other. And we also know that the AS bond and the AM bond differ in some ways. So my question is, what would happen of an AS bonded another AS or an AM bonded another AM. I don't know if this topic has been discussed before as I cannot find the tread.

In one of the last books either Thom or Rand has a quote about juggling and continually adding more balls until they are dropped. Then something is said about the fall being more spectacular than then the juggling itself. Does anyone remember the quote? If so can you point me to it or the book that it is in. I have been looking with no luck. Thanks.

Does anyone else here like fanfiction? I love it...I've recently found some on Tumblr, of all places...There is a guy whose screenname is Tedronai, and he's written the best I've ever read by far. I wish he'd been the one to finish the WoT. He's currently got a story in progress about a high school boy who's a WoT fan and discovers he has the spark. He has a female friend who he discovers is also a wilder...The guy discovers he's also a Dreamer, and meets a guy in TAR who is a mercenary and is being chased by people who are like a modern-day Black Ajah, but they find ANYONE that channel . Of course the boy is Forsaken level strength (of course! ), so just imagine the ad…

The first time I started read The Wheel of Time I had read up through book 10, Crossroads of Twilight, reading each one after it was released. However I delayed picking up Knife of Dreams (partly because of what I thought of Crossroads) and still hadn't when I learned of Robert Jordan's death. Then, in early 2016, I decided I'd finally complete them. However it had been so long since Id originally read them that I'd forgotten most of the details so I decided that I'd start from the beginning. The entire time I was reading though I was worried that I'd commit so much time to reading the series only to get to the point where Brandon Sanderson took over and discover I di…

I would love it if there was an abridged version of WoT like those Reader's Digest books. I never finished the series when I first started reading them years ago and am trying to now. While I love the books, Jordan's writing can get so bogged down in description, often repeated and IMO useless description, that reading becomes frustrating. I'm on book 10 now and I've gotten to the point where I often skip the majority of a page, sometimes skimming past 2-3 pages at a time without missing anything relevant. Often it feels like whenever a character walks into a room for the first time before anything substantial happens we know what every bit of furniture looks like, t…

Nobody can deny that there is something special (a bond without bonding) between the two of them. To me, they are more than just very good friends. Unfortunately, Jordan did not explore this relationship on deeper levels; any idea why did Jordan choose to ignore it in book 9-10-11?

When I was reading Eragon (the first book) I thought the first half of the book is almost a complete rip-off of EotW. Don't get me wrong, I love Inheritance Cycle and Christopher Paloni, but he was 15 when he wrote Eragon and it seems he completely plagiarized the first half of EotW. I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, I couldn't find the thread...

So, I understand the argument behind the disjointed timelines in tGS and ToM, but I'm on a re-read and I've noticed something. We first learn that gateways for Traveling and Skimming aren't working around Perrin's camp when he is approaching the Whitecloaks. Grady and Neald tell him they couldn't make any that morning and then when Perrin asks for someone to travel back to the camp to get a tent and chairs for an impromptu parlay with Galad, they still don't work. There is a three day hiatus placed on the battle for a 'trial' of Perrin with Morgase in judgement during which time Faile mentions they still don't work as she notices refugees walking out of camp in lieu of…

Did anyone else notice that all the Mistresses of Novices were Black Ajah? Merean, Sherman, and Alviarin were all Black Ajah. The only one who isn't is the one Egwene appointed after she cleansed the Tower. Was this supposed to be some kind of inside joke? Was RJ implying that principals/deans are evil?

Just finished watching Dr. Strange, and I loved it, but for all the wrong reasons....Is it just me, or is the whole magic system simply a ripoff of The One Power with different terminology? I mean, they showed the "weaves", making gateways, ter'angreals (they called them relics but the explanation was the same), the Chinese guy was Brown Ajah, and Dr. Strange even had to face the Dark One. I mean, of course there are only so many ways to show magic being used, but really? I mean they even had an Amrylin (I'm sorry, they called her the Ancient One). How can they get away with that?

Is it just me, or does using the One Power resemble mental knitting? I mean, you have different types of "thread" that you weave to get a certain result. Even with unraveling a weave, it's said that anyone who can knit can do it, and sometimes the flows are referred to as "threads." Is it just me?

Introduction This theory entails how the Wheel of Time is structured and the layout of the Ages. For the purposes of this theory, I have assumed that there are in fact 2 Champions of the Light, a male soul (the Dragon) and a female soul (the Phoenix). I have taken Phoenix to be the name of the female soul because in Chinese culture the Phoenix and the Dragon represent Yin and Yang... The Theory: So this is how I assume the Ages are layed out in the Wheel of Time: First Age (Age of Survival): This Age involves with the survival of the human civilization after the Breaking of the World during the previous Age. This is the Age where we, the readers live in. This Age e…

It occurred to me the other day after all these years that the sickness that took those people who touched the source, those men and women who died before they could learn to consciously touch the source died terribly, but I wondered about the exact cause. Was it that since they could not control their channeling that they drew too much and killed themselves, or was it something more along the lines of burning themselves out and wasting away from some unknown loss of being able to touch the source? We know that up until Rand cleansed Saidin the men when they touched the source began being corrupted by the taint. Some could have died from it after only a few touches, wh…

This is something I cannot ever remember being revealed in the WoT world, but how could Aes Sedai capture, or for that matter, detect a man who could channel? I suppose as far as 'detecting' them, the most they could do is go off of leads and speaking to people. But has it been theorized or revealed in the books that there may be a way to detect men channeling? I cannot remember. In the least, I think I remember a way to detect the channeling of saidin as being discovered, but it doesn't make sense that the Red Ajah wouldn't know this knowledge already. I do remember from New Spring (I think) that each Ajah seems to have its own secret weaves they don't share with oth…

We have a least favorite character topic. Where is the love? I have my list of favorites. Topping that list is Cadsuane. She is awesome, and interesting, and I can easily visualize Katherine Hepburn in the role of my beloved green sister. Just because of her sheer awesomeness, I would be more likely to choose green ajah over the rest, though brown is more suited to my personality. What character made the series come to life for the rest of you?

It is still a common criticism that every new character is taller than the previous one, which is not true, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that their tallnesses could be an inside joke from Jordan. After all, our heroes start from the Shire (which was a deliberate choice), so is it possible that Rand's height correlates to our heights as a (tall) hobbit's height correlates to our heights? Causes of the shrinking: radiation, gene manipulation, OP etc.

Hello all! I was reading through the WoT Companion as commentary to my second read of the series, and became curious as to the variance within the White Tower in regards to the Aes Sedai's strange multifaceted social ranking. Here's where I got in pursuit of that. The premise When I started thinking about the Tower in Exile, I realized that there must be some pretty impressive recall going on to remember which Aes Sedai stood where within their internal ranking. The original thought came when I read through the first meetings of the Hall in Salidar, but then expanded to include the normal sisters as well. I know there are explanations given both in the Companion …

Readers usually skim over her character, but a few of us think of her as a fascinating AS. Her chapters/presence are/is always entertaining, plus we get very interesting observations from her pov. (To paraphrase József Attila: a human amid AS.) Is there anyone else amongst us who appreciate Merana?

Hi all. Forgive me if this is the wrong place for this question, but I'm engaging on a WoT-related academic pursuit of sorts, and past experience led me here as a good place to start a line of inquiry. My question is this: are there any good resources out there in the fandom pulling together canonical references to the specific Powers used to make specific Weaves, and the rough proportions of Powers used? IE some resource that has gone through the books looking for lines like "Moiraine arched her perfect little eyebrow and intoned mysteriously,'Fireballs use mostly Fire, but also a teensy smidge of Air.'" I've done some searching and haven't come up with anything, …

Pretty straightforward, really (although perhaps the answer is less so...): Is there a particular spot in the series in which it's recommended to read New Spring? When I last read the series some 6-7 years ago (up through Knife of Dreams), I believe I simply read NS in between CoT and KoD, since that was the order in which those books were published. I'm just wondering if that still holds up, or if I should be reading it before TEotW, and/or whether it even matters at all when I read NS (in relation to the series' mainline novels). Advice/recommendations is appreciated!
