I'm doing a re-read & I am currently on Crown of Swords. At one point Taim sends a letter to Rand while Rand is in the mountains near Illian. In the letter Taim explains to Rand about how recruitment of Asha'man are going. He (Taim) says that he picked that blackberry bush himself and that it was small and thorny, but with a surprising amount of fruit. Just wondering where that blackberry bush was. Could it have been Seanchan lands? I only originally read up to Crossroads of Twilight so maybe it is something that is discussed in one of the newer books, if so then there is no need to respond, as I'll get there soon. Was curious if I missed something in…

  2. I've had an AS ring for several years now, bought right about the time they started selling them (I think). Actually I bought two, because I lost my first, sadly... but both are silver. And as I'm looking through the store here, I'm wondering: why is there no bronze alternative or something cheaper than $589 for that ring? Compared to that, the cheapest [gold] Asha'man pin is $472. I actually saw people on eBay selling these rings for a ridiculous $1,000!! I mean if the earring can be 309$, and I'm assuming it's about the same size as the ring, I feel they could (should) lower the price of the 10k gold AS ring >.> So, I'm wondering if anyone is interested in sell…

. I have only ever read the WOT series through LOC (book 6), and am currently embarking on a reread now that the whole series is done. Currently I'm as far as mid-Shadow Rising. In googling around to get a sense of people's reactions to the completed whole, I've noticed a definite trend: Books 1-6 (which I've read) are considered the best, Books 7-10 are considered pretty awful, and Books 11-14 are considered somewhat of a return to form, but with more mixed reviews than 1-6. Anyway, my question to this community is: Is there anyone who feels the books 7-10 (ACOS through COT) are unfairly dumped on?; -- or a particular book in that run, that you feel is…

  6. I'm aware this thread has been done before but I just wanted to add my two coppers. The Forces of Darkness (FOD) did have their coup d'état moments during Tarmon Gai'don, such as subverting the Great Captains via compulsion and by gaining complete strategic surprise attacking/over-running Kandor in short order. In Caemlyn, the Dreadlords established a Waygate-head in a single stroke; negating the security precautions by having well placed Darkfriends in the Queen's Guard and Palace. They also simultaneously assassinated enough channeling Kinswoman to prevent an SOS message to Elayne that would have alerted her in a timely manner. The Dreadlords and Trollocs had Caeml…

Whenever I think back to when I was reading, one of the scenes that sticks out most in my mind is when Semirhage had Rand in the male a'dam. That scene was so intense to me I loved it. Like I couldn't read fast enough.

  8. The thing that get me is there is Rand, fighting dark ones, fighthing Sean Chan invaders and Elyane and Egwene was like..."Rand totes gonna kneel before the tower and the crown". Like..seriously, what?

My thoughts are all over the place so please excuse the lack of details and bouncing from topic to topic... Anyway! [glow=red,2,300]Glowbulbs[/glow]... these useful little instruments of light from AoL. Will someone please tell me WHY Aes Sedai are always reading and doing other work by candlelight or lamp instead of a globe of light? Seriously, I can't imagine that a simple weave such as that would require much effort and even if she could not channel two weaves at once, she could unravel the light globe. Perhaps the AoL glowbulbs were ter'angreal but still... it doesn't take a (channeling) genius to put two and two together: the lack of oil and the abundance of …

Where would you go? Would you stay with the Tower, the Last Battle is coming and the Tower needs to be whole, Salidar since Elaida is never going to be able to work with the Dragon Reborn, or would you join Cadsuane, the Dragon Reborn is the most important person at the moment...?

I am currently on my 3rd read through of this wonderful series, and I once again have had time to ponder one of the deeper mysteries the books entail: Why is the Dark One seemingly reluctant to kill Rand, at least early on? Does he have some sort of Palpatine syndrome where he wants to convert rand, or maybe a Voldemort syndrome where he wants to be the one to personally kill Rand? It's pretty obvious the Forsaken could have ended the series somewhere around, oh, say page 1. Clearly Rand's got people at least semi-aware of who he is from the very start (dat myrddraal), and with the emergence of the Forsaken in the first few books, it wouldn't have been to hard for …

Forgive me if I have missed this somewhere, but with the series over, I just don't get here as much as the days of old. Has there been any news on the proposed two othe prequel novels? Have they been published, are they still being written? We Brandon Sanderson write them? Have they been cancelled? Have I just missed word of them because I don't navigate this site much? Thanks.

  15. Hi everyone, I recently finished aMoL and I thought I’d post my theories on the metaphysics of the Wheel of Time universe. For the most part these are based on how RJ himself presented and wrote about his world. I tried to limit my own speculations as much as possible, and the ones I have to make are generally open-ended. Hope you enjoy! The Nature of the Pattern and the Purpose of the Wheel of Time AS RJ wrote, the Pattern is the intricate web of human lives which are controlled by both good and evil, the Creator and the Dark One, in perpetual balance. Based on that idea, and based on Rand’s interactions with the DO during the Last Battle, I propose that the…

  17. I'm not sure if other people have talked about it, but I can't stop thinking about how gateways could have been used. It doesn't matter how powerful the enemy is or what kind of defenses they have if all you had to do is make very small gateways with the endpoint being inside their body's. It could just be a millimeter or two wide and all the enemy would have to do is move slightly or take a step and their insides would be ripped to shreds. It would take very little power and be all most impossible to detect happening. You could even make eye sized gateways for you to see from and you could attack anyone from anywhere without them being able to detect you. You could even …

  18. So I've just finished the series for the first time, and I have some thoughts about Moridin (and also posting here for the first time; I think I did it right) RJ played a fair bit with people being turned to the shadow, even very nearly our dear protagonist. But there was a continuous refrain throughout the series of redemption - that even the most fallen could come back to the Light. This played out in a few minor ways, but at first glance I think it may seem it was never really touched, especially with the big bads, the Forsaken. I had two I desperately wanted redemption for: Moridin and Graendal. Moridin because I understood and sympathized with his reasons for…

Welp, this is my first post and I'm not entirely sure this is the appropriate place for this discussion. It is as far as I can tell, but I'm sure I'll be getting yelled at for something shortly :) With that said, I have always been very interested in the WoT Cage Match etc. discussions and find them fascinating to consider and expand on. One fight I can't seem to find a discussion on however, is as titled - Mat vs Galad. We all have our own images of Mat and Galad and their abilities/skills, and I'm sure there are a thousand ways this could be done and many may have a different opinion on how this would go down. In my blissful ignorance however, I have written…

  21. This might just stem from me being awful at imagining things, but I sometimes tend to imagine a character a certain way then get blown away by how wrong it seems when I see how a character is "meant" to look. Like, for me the worst is Egwene and Mat. In my head Egwene has shoulder length, curly kinda light brown hair. And MAt has relatively long and wild hair. Galad as well. I honestly don't know how this happens or if it's just me or whatever. Anyone else have an imagining of a character that looks drastically different from how they're officially meant to look?

I discovered this book on Amazon, it has a whole chapter devoted to WOT! The One Mind : CG Jung & the Future of Literary Criticism Prof. Matthew Fike "Applying the tools of Jungian literary criticism in new ways by expanding their scope and methodology, Fike discusses the works of Hawthorne, Milton, Shakespeare, Wordsworth, and lesser-known writers in terms of issues from psychology, parapsychology, and physics. Topics include the case for monism over materialism, altered states of consciousness, types of psychic functioning, The book concludes with case studies on Robert Jordan and William Blake. Considered together, these readings bring us a significant step …

Hi, I recently bought a new house and I'm looking for some large wall posters or murals and naturally the first thing that came to my mind is, they have to from The Wheel of Time. I'm having a hell of a time trying to find online stores that carry anything Wheel of Time based, much less large wall posters or Murals. Does anyone here know where I could get my hands on some? I'd love a poster of The Battle of Dumai's Wells, but would settle for anything WoT based, and I live in Canada.

Going through WOT for the 2nd time, but probably the 5th time for The Dragon Reborn and ran across a passage that struck me as funny - never noticed it before, but the two words were 'snarling Darlin'. On page 552 - the full sentence is: "It was all a snarling Darlin could do to keep the staff from him." Any other funny word combinations you remember in the series?
