Hello all, so Ive been doing some work for a side project. I have several copies of the Eye of the World and I am having trouble finding information on the interior cover of The Eye of the World: I know Darrell K. Sweet is the artist for this image (by the initials by Mandarb's hooves). Im trying to figure out where in the story this image is from? From what I can tell, I assume this would be from Chapter 10: Leavetaking, as they head out from Edmond's Field to Tarren Ferry. Also in that chapter, only 7 people leave on horseback (Rand, Mat, Perrin, Lan, Moiraine, Egwene and Thom). Who are the other 2 people in the back as I count 9 on horseback? Also, …

Something that always intrigued me. Which are the most powerful nations on the world (assuming that Rand doesn't fight)? Aiel - very likely they could have defeated the entire nations of the main continent, at the same time. Only 4 Aiel tribes (1/3 of all Aiel forces), pretty much did that and reached Tar Valon. The regenade Shaido tribe was enough to defeat nations. Saenchan - at-least as strong as Aiel, and likely even stronger. Have more powerful channelers and from Aviendha vision we saw that in an eventual war between Aiel and Saenchan, Aiel not that will only lose, but in fact will get completely destroyed. And in that war, the other nations were helping Aiels. So…

I'm new to DM and am almost finished with the series. Less than 100 pages left in MoL. I feel like there a few things missing that I haven't gotten answers to yet. Where did Mat's memories come from? Any person in particular? Is Perrin supposed to be a mythical reincarnation like Rand? What is the significance of the Red Eagle of Manatheren? The story kind of leads to unanswered clues but after reviewing the books, no answers.

Ok, so I'am re-reading the series and I feel like i need to know right now who wrote the letter to Rand in Far Madding telling him where the renegades are. Chapter 32 of Winters Heart "I know who you are, and I wish you well, but I also wish you gone from Far Madding. The Dragon Reborn leaves death and destruction where he steps. I know why you are here, too. You killed Rochaid, and Kisman also is dead. Torval and Gedwyn have taken the top floor above a bootmaker named Zeram on Blue Carp Street, just above the Illian Gate. Kill them and go, and leave Far Madding in peace." Thanks for the help people

I'm an engineer and I was just learning to use this 3D drawing software, I thought that it would be good practice to draw the snake symbol that appears on the front of the books because it has regular shapes but was a bit more advanced than what I knew. I was very pleased with the drawing so I decided to get it 3D printed. Here is the result I am going to give it as a present to the person who introduced me to The Wheel of Time By the way does anyone know the name of this symbol? Here's a link to download the drawing file either in stp or igs file format. Perhaps it's wishful thinking that someone will use it but why not :P https://www.mediafi…

Fellow Wheel of Time fans, We are assembling a tribute dedicated to Robert Jordan (RIP) to be given to his widow, Harriet McDougal Rigney, for the coming JordanCon in April 2015. We would like to compile an album filled with postcards of his fans’ hometowns to illustrate the distance his words have traveled and to showcase all the lives he has touched. In the postcard you may put in a few words about how the series affected your lives, a favorite Wheel of Time quote, words for Harriett. Whatever you are comfortable with. The postcards are to be sent in an envelope, with the address listed below. If you want to include a local stamp on your postcard for decora…

Whew! Just finished Book 4. I didn't know going in that it was the longest in the series, some 400,000 words! This one felt like work a few times. Just so much narrative to get through. Having said that: it's my favorite so far. RJ keeps you guessing till almost the last page and some things set up as far back as Book 2 finally pay off. I've started Book 5. The prologue is . . . let's just say I had to refer to the internet to get up to speed on some of what's going on there! I started with New Spring summer 2012, re-read Eye of the World for the first time since 1990 and have carried on from there. It's weird but it feels like I've been reading WOT for more tha…

OK so I just finished my second re-read of WOT, and started thinking about this... when Moiraine fell through the arch with Lanfear, why did her warder bond break? She didn't die, after all. And it broke immediately cos Lan said so. But she went in, asked them questions, got an angreal and was then trapped. She's been to the world of the Eelfinns before without anything happening to the bond. My problem is, the bond should not have broken. She could have released the bond, but then Lan wouldn't have gone into crazy-mode. And after this, why DIDN'T Rand's bond break when he became Moridin? A small imperfection in my perfect series... someone plz explain? :(

I love finding historical and mythological realities that became fodder for Mr Jordan's imagination when creating his world in TWOT. Recently, I've been looking at the evolution of coffee into the drink many of us consume today. In Europe, the Dutch were the first of the European powers to bring plants over and sell, what was a highly desired commodity, to the rest of Europe. The Dutch (the mayor of Amsterdam to be precise) gave King Louis a plant, which was a hugely prized and coveted gift. Long story short (look into it), the plant was stolen by a man from the French Navy. This man had asked Louis for a clipping of the tree. The King said no. The man later scaled a wall…

Unlike Tolkien, or even Martin now, there is almost no scholarly literature about WoT. There's a fair bit online but no books. Has anyone read Heather Attrill's "A Web of Words"? It appears to be the only published book on the market that takes a scholarly look at Jordan's work. Is it worth reading? Also: I'm only on Book 5 - does WoW contain spoilers? The Amazon sample looks promising. Attrill notes Jordan's use of interlacing, a Medieval literary technique, which I noticed also. That's the sort of thing I'd like to read about. If you've read this book, let me know if it's worth checking out. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I have a question regarding a copy of the Fires of Heaven. I currently own one of the Leather Bound editions of the Fires of Heaven, it has a limitation page with Robert Jordan's Signature that states 'This is a copy of a limited 150 release...' etc,. The only thing is that it is not numbered, there is no number x/150, and there is no Letter/25. There is just a blank spot where the number should be. I would like to know a little bit more about this and the only reference I have online about these limited copies only says that there were editions printed that are *missing* the limitations page. I have that, its just not numbered. Any information/ any…

Gonna list some things I'm musing about as I read this series for the first time (questions/complaints/confusion) I'm sorry if the majority of this seems negative I'm taking it more on a humorous note but sometimes tone doesn't follow through text, after all I AM reading it. 1.) Perrin is travels with the wolves in the same telahranriod as the girls have been using right? I think that was confirmed... and if so he has become quite adept at it even if he doesn't understand the over arching principles behind the plane. --- So why then does he never interact with anyone during the last 3 Books? (Books 5 - beg of 6 are VERY focused on telahranriod) It just seems like an e…

Who was or is Illeyna in the Wheel of Time has always been an intriguing mystery to me. The fact that we never found out was one of the frustrating omissions of the series. However, I now believe with a 100% certainty that Illeyna was Egwene. I believe that Rand and Egwene are bound to the Wheel together and that Egwene is always destined to die a tragic death. This time she died saving the world in the prior age she died as a result of the madness that overtook the male channelers. It was the madness that altered Rands age from previous ones. Without the madness Rand follows Egwene to the White Tower and they both become Aes SedaI and then marry, and fight together again…

Two things that bug me: 1. We know female channelers live very long. Some of them, like the Kin, for over four centuries. Are the male channelers going to live that long also now that the taint is gone? 2. Rand and the three girls. Now, without the ability to channel, he is going to live as long as any ordinary man. After him and Min are gone it is going to be only Avi and Elayne. And if Elayne's kids don't have the gift, she would outlive her husband AND her kids. The same is valid for Lan & Nynaeve and Tom and Moiraine. Lan and especially Tom are considerably older than their women so they won't be around for that long. So it turns out Avi, Ny…

I am confused on which book I should start with here in the Wheel of Time Series. I looked on the internet and it says this New Spring is a Prequel and The Eye of the World is the first book so which one should I start with. Also keep in mind I only have 3 of these and the third one is The Great Hunt.

Conclusion: either the Salidar delegation was under corpulsion or Fain had corrupted them in advance. In the Lord of Chaos Demira Sedai is stabbed by supposed Aiel. The rest if the delegation is told of this by a 'good samaritan'. Team Jordan has stated the supposed Aiel were Fain's corrupted WhiteCloaks. The Salidar delegation seemingly immediately blamed Rand and thought he was trying to intimidate them. The delegation then set out on almost the stupidest course of action possible sort of trying to shield Rand. There are plenty of reasons for the delegation be suspicious of whether Rand was being attack. The White Cloaks looked nothing like Aiel. There were …

I feel like a bloody fool for not realizing Verin was Black Ajah. She obviously lies when she tells Perrin, in The Great Hunt, that she was sent by Moraine when they meet up. Moraine later tells Rand that she didn't send Verin. I can't believe i missed it. I wonder what else i missed. I love the series because it seems like you always find things you missed no matter how many times you read the series.

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Have there been any good threads on the philosophy of the series? I'm interested because I've written sort of an virtue-ethics portrait of Rand I'd like to share. But I'll feel like a jerk if I post that without seeing what other conversations folks have already had. :)

I've been enjoying the series up until now. What a storyteller Jordan is. Unfortunately this book is getting the best of me. I used to try and sneak away from people every now and then just to be able to read one page. Now I have time but I don't want to read anymore. The end of Winter's Heart is one of my favorite parts of the series so far. What an event! I couldn't wait to start reading Crossroads of Twilight. Now I've read over 400 pages and still only a few mentions about that. The adventures of Mat, Egwene and Elayne is important sure but did the main story take a break? Did Jordan get tired of the Dragon? Not only that, it feels like Jordan is taking extra …

For those who missed my introduction (hey everyone! <waves>), I've recently begun rereading the series for the first time in 6-7 years. (I'll also be reading the Sanderson books for the first time, once I get that far.) Anyway, I've admittedly forgotten a lot about the series in the interregnum, and I felt like starting a thread so I could jot down and share some of the things I'm enjoying rediscovering/remembering about these excellent books. As a general observation, one thing I'd forgotten was the amount of humor in these books. Not that I recalled the series as being a completely serious, 100% drama-fest or anything like that, but neither do I remember i…

I recently started and finished book 9 after a looong hiatus from the series. Along the way I remembered how RIDICULOUS it is to try and keep up with all the characters at this point in the series simply by memory. Congrats to anyone who can. You are amazing. To help myself both keep track of the story as well as refresh my memory on various characters I started making a character map as I went through book 9. I now have a HUGE character map that details the "end-state" of Winter's Heart with relationships, deaths, and some events of the book. Right now it pretty much has all of the (noteworthy) characters that appeared in book 9, although I know there's many more. It hel…

From a recent re-read of AMOL, I got the distinct impression that Rodel Ituralde is the greatest captain of the four great captains. Why do I here you ask... Well I'm basing my decision on how the captains were affected by Greandal/Hessalam's compulsion. When it was discovered Agelmar and Bryne had been compelled, they both stated that they knew they were making mistakes after the made the order whereas when Bashere was discovered he didn't believe he was making any mistakes, insisting he had done everything right. However in the case of Ituralde, when the army of myrddral attacked, he was able resist the compulsion to the extent that he was able to stop himself from or…

*Question contains spoilers for book 5 on* Hello! I've finished book 9 and continuing on, but it's been such a long time since I first started this series that my memory is getting fuzzy on a few things. Can someone (or someones :) ) help refresh my memory on the whole white tower split? In particular, I honestly don't recall exactly why the blues were at such odds with the reds and what caused the whole division that lead to the exodus of aes sedai that regrouped in Salidar. Thanks so much! Dakaran

Hello everybody, new here and to the Wheel of Time series in general :) I'm hoping to keep spoilers to a very bare minimum, so bear with me! (I might spoil too for the first book and part of the second, so beware!) === So, I'm loving the book series and it's story so far (I'm reading them in publish order, so I'm on the second book), but one thing has been bugging me, and that's...well, most of the characters themselves. It's very hard to associate with Perrin, Mat, Rand, Nyn, or really anyone from Two Rivers. They all seem so intentionally dense. So far it feels like Lan and Morraine are the only two with even half a brain. I understand Rand's …
