I like B. (I don't know why, her role is so small, what a pity, Perrin is just a plaything to her but I think she's in love with Rand, see LoC) but this "confession" always bothered me. The other two were politics. We know that the very concept of prostitution is totally unknown in Randland (or not?), so I really don't understand this sentence. Or did she just say, "Don't worry, I'm not a virgin"? (Riding - No, you cannot. Your virginity is lost the first time that you have sexual intercourse for both sexes, and for females, not when the hymen is broken.)

  2. Part of Nicola's foretelling about was about the Guardians "balancing" the servants. This could mean a couple different things. It could simply mean that the Black Tower, under Logain, becomes just as powerful as the White Tower and keeps their influence in check, but I believe it means that the Black and White Towers become one, and the Hall of Servants is reformed in the 4th Age. The Aes Sedai have a lot of influence in the Westlands, and the Ashaman joining with them would balance out that influence.

In Ebou Dar Elaine and Nyn and the other Rebel Sisters spent time withTeslyn and Joline. No doubt they spoke to each other and worst case Joline new that Egwene had been raised as their Amyrlin. Yet Teslyn and Joline are socked to hear from Talmanes that Egwene is Amyrlin when they meet up with Matt in the woods several books later. Then again we see setalle anan surprised to hear that Matt knows Elaine in ToM "boots". Yet she first met Elaine in her own Inn when they came out of Matts room. Just wondering if there is a thread on this somewhere that i have not been able to find?

I'm confused as to what exactly happened right before Siuan was stilled and Elaida became Amrylin... Elaida went to this farm where a novice who'd overheard a conversation of Siuan was sent.. Elaida did something to the novice and the farm owner.. but what exactly happened there? For a long time I thought she was Black Ajah coz I assumed she murdered that woman at the farm.. but did she?

Hi there, I just finished eye of the world, and I want to say... That was one of the most contrived stories with a cast of completely 1 dimensional characters. I have heard so many times about the wheel of time as though it is the best fantasy series of all time and I find myself thinking that the hobbit(of all books) had more interesting characters than teotw. So is there anything in this series I should look into before I pass it up?

  7. - Rand is going to choose one of the three "wives" when he'll finish traveling and live with her, while occasionally paying visits to others - There is a gene which accounts for ability to control channeling/Talents of others; sul'dam have it, but not fully expressed, that's why collars are needed. Myrddraal have this gene, too, and its expression+dark magic is what causes them to be what they are [as author said it wasn't the channeling gene that causes it] - Using blood rings corrupts soul, so users get to be reborn as shadowspawn - Draghkar are too dumb to even procreate on their own ) - Seanchan [continent] has quite a few magical anomalies, that's why they natura…

  8. It has been brought up in the TSR thread in the structured forum that I feel that there was some dastardly deed that prevented Siuan from being warned by Moraine about the attempt to free Taim. My reasons for this belief is well reasoned and firmly grounded in the books, yet it has been dismissed as coincidence. Here I will try to reiterate my argument, and throw in some additional substantiation from later books, that I could not adequately cite due to the strictures of the structured forum. TSR Prolouge: Min arrives at the Tower. Siuan tells her that she has not recieved word of "Rand al Thor" since the incidents at Falme. Min tells Siuan that Rand has run away,…

Since Mr. Rigney passed I have not checked this site very often. I used to come here to read his blog but rarely posted. There used to be an unofficial summary of the books floating around somewhere and I dont remember if it was here or another site. This was the site I frequented most so I thought I would ask if anybody knows where I can read or download the summary. I am anxiously awaiting book 12 1/3 but would like to be caught up beforehand. I obviously don't have time to re-read the first 11 before the book is released so the summary would be great for me. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

  12. When you read the books, do you populate the characters with voices from other media? Usually I just read the books in my normal 'reading voice' in my head, for lack of a better phrase. This time out though I'm doing a bit of fantasy voice-casting. I tend to picture the series as an anime in my brain anyways, this is just helping to fill things out more. :) I only have a few so far, that 'reader voice' is surprisingly stubborn about yielding brainspace. The cool thing about 'casting' the series this way is that we don't have to tie ourselves to how the characters look. Pedron Niall - Christopher Lee: I don't think I need to introduce this one. :) Jaichim Carridin …

I had re-read the series up to the latest release a few times, and then stopped with Knife of Dreams. After Robert Jordan died, I wanted to wait until the whole thing was done before reading the rest. Well in March I decided to go for it, and read all of Wheel of Time from start to finish. I just finished A Memory of Light tonight. Wow. What an incredible end to this series. I was reluctant to put every book down (even the slow ones (story development, man, these details are important)), but #14 was just so so good. I'm by no means a fast reader, but I read it in two days, which is quick for me. I had to do so much stuff around the house, got nothing done, and it was …

  15. If you think Wheel of Time is good, then I dare you to re-read it. Believe me, it’s really bad. You can pretty much open any book on any page, read ten pages and then summarize them as “nothing of importance happened”. I’ve read most of them. On a recent discussion on RockPaperShotgun about Sex in video games, the focus switched to A Game of Thrones and then to the Wheel of Time. This came up. What to respond? http://www.rockpaper...comment-1019578

Hi! My name is Tom Maringer. I have a small private mint called Shire Post Mint. Last year we officially licensed with Bandersnatch Inc. to make coins for The Wheel Of Time world! I am new to Dragonmount and am not sure where to post, so if there is a better place than this, please let me know! I'd like to let people know about the coins we have already made, and encourage people to offer suggestions as to those we might make in the future. At the moment we have a Tar Valon Mark, about quarter size, struck in nickle-silver. For this piece we created a 'collector-card' packaging in which the coin is pressed into a hole in a heavy printed card, which comes in a…

A Memory of Light (while I liked the book the first time I read it, and loved it the second time) it remains a bitter-sweet fruit for me... My mother introduced my father to the Wheel of Time back in the early 90s, and she thought I would like it as well, so I picked up book one in 1995. (I was a Freshman in High School at the time.) The series would mesmerize my dad and me for the next 15 years and we would have discussions and theorize with each other on the plot, characters, the Last Battle, etc. We anticipated each book excitedly and my dad would always purchase the hardback when it came out and I would have to wait until he was finished with it before I could…

It's Wheel of Time cage match time again! Some of you are familiar with the popular Suvudu cage matches, which pit famous sci-fi and fantasy characters against each other in bracketed tournaments. Our matches will be similar to Suvudu's, but they will be with Wheel of Time characters only. Your hardworking Admins and DM Staff have chosen sixteen WoT characters (eight channelers and eight non-channelers) to fight each other in a bracketed tournament. We've got a bracket for the channelers and a bracket for the non-channelers. Each cage match includes impressive art and a write-up of how we think the fight might go. The actual results are determined via polls, in which al…

I know it might not be trendy or hip, but Mat Cauthon is far and away my favorite character. I was just wondering what moments of his made you laugh the most. I think RJ did an absolutely genius-level job inserting casual and nuanced humor into Mat's passages - such as this, the moment he jumps onto a ship leaving from Tar Valon in Book 3: "Mat waved the Amyrlin’s paper toward the bearded man - the captain, he supposed – with one hand, and fished a gold crown out of his pouch with the other, taking care even in his haste that the fellow saw there were more where that came from. Tossing the heavy coin to the man, he spoke quickly, still waving the paper. “For the …

I saw my fav quote on one of our DMers sig and thought id check the definition. It lead me to an article about Mat being King Aemon reborn http://www.presskanne.com/theory/809 This got me thinking I did originally think that Mat was Aemon reborn back when i was reading DR. That or he was the heir of Aemon one or the other. Im also of the opinion that Eggy is whatshername the Amyrilyn who got the female AS to promise not to help LTT. Im REALLY thinking that considering how shes acting at the mo regarding the seals. And of course a lot of people make a link between Elayne and Illenya. What I was wondering is does anyone think anyone from the series i…

Given what we now know of the creation of Angreal and Sa'angreal requiring a seed which robs a channeler of their essence, weakening them considerably for a few months in the creation, how then was Callandor and the Choedan Kal formed? Is it possible to imbue a Sa'angreal with the essence of more than one channeler? If so, how does that work? Men cannot link together but women can to a point. A full circle would describe a Sa'angreal's power, but that is men and women working together as well as magnified. If it is a circle's full essence absorbed, if a male is in control of the full circle and everyone has Angreal themselves they are drawing on...it gets confusing a…

  22. I love the Wheel of Time series, it is probably my favourite series. I did enjoy the last book; A Memory of Light however when it ended it left several matters unresolved and questions unanswered. Unfortunately I am one of these people who like everything neat and tidy, especially when a series comes to an end. But is it the End, will the Wheel continue to turn? We more books be written to answer these questions?

  23. I just finished the series yesterday, after having started reading it back around 2005 or so. Now I want to discuss it a little bit, ask some questions about things that seem unresolved or that I didn't understand. Who wrote the multitude of prophecies (Karaethon Cycle, Jendai Prophecy, etc.) and why are they so universally believed? Who was Balthamel? He is seriously the least explored of the Forsaken, I know just about nothing about him. Why did Sammael die so anticlimactically? I was certain he'd show up later because his death was so impersonal and so unexplored, but then he didn't... Why did Siuan and Leane never get their abilities fully restored, even though it…

I just finished Towers of Midnight, and I just cannot get over how much of a stereotypical "Nice Guy" Gawyn is. I'm not talking about being a genuinely good man with pursuits of his own, healthy appreciation of the range of male and female relationships, etc. I mean this in the negative, one-dimensional definition of a singularly woman-obsessed guy who's just been SO NICE and SO DEDICATED and becomes confused, angry and resentful about why his persistent NICENESS hasn't been rewarded with a relationship or sex or in this case, Wardership. After all, he's just been so nice, he deserves to be compensated for that, and if she'd *get over herself* she'd see that! He is in…

So I was thinking; we all know what the three oaths are that each AS must take during her raising. Under the light and by my hope of salvation and rebirth, I vow that I will speak no word that is not true. Under the light and by my hope of salvation and rebirth, I vow that I will make no weapon for one man to kill another. Under the light and by my hope of salvation and rebirth, I vow that I will never use the One Power as a weapon except against shadowspawn, or in the last extreme of defending my life, or that of my warder, or another sister. In particular I'm interested in the third one: the "I vow that I will never use the One Power as a weapon except against s…

In wheel of time we know souls are reborn, so there no connection spiritually between families. For example a person could be born a montague, but be reborn a capulate. So the only bonds of family is the fact, that they live together and share DNA, something Rand will not have with any of his offsprings. Unless souls could some how be related? The reasons i bring this up is in another thread it was sugested that a person needed a channelers soul, but also the right DNA to channel. I dont know if that is right or wrong, in light of the way we know people are reborn in randland i would of thought blood mattered very little, but we also know channeler begets channeler. …

  28. So the last time I ever read this was about 2 years ago. (possibly longer) I had things going on in my life that kept me from having time to just read nor did I really have the motivation. This year I've been reading a lot more and just realized I really would like to finish this. I left off in the beginning of Winter's Heart, but I'm a bit intimidated to start again as it's been so long, I might not remember what characters are who and what they do and look like, etc. Also I've heard Winter's Heart is really long and boring, which makes me tempted to just read a summary for it somewhere and then skip on to the next book. Any suggestions/advice?
