Hi, I am excited about the release of the last book, but I haven't starred it yet. I know once I read it it will be done. And once it is done I don't know if I'll ever read the series again. Because its done I guess. I know the ending. I started the series 3 years ago and finished it 2 years ago. I love it, but in that time there are some things I have forgotten. Reading this forum today I read the name lanfear. I know that she was in love with the dragon, but became a dark friend. I remember she dIsguised herself as a different woman and led rad and Matt through the portals. But beyond that I don't remember. There are lots of details I don't remember…

From her first appearance in TGH, Verin Sedai was my favorite Aes Sedai, and soon enough she became my favorite character. She always suggested depths without that bullying quality that marred so many other Aes Sedai, was always mysterious and yet had a surface which was the epitome of a Brown. During the course of the series, hints that she might be Black kept me intrigued, but I never had a strong opinion one way or another--although I felt that her personality was all wrong for the Black. And then (was it in TGS or TOM? don't recall right now) came her final hour of life, confirming, for me, that she was the most intriguing person Jordan ever conceived. I was absol…

Loial sometimes mentions that the Talisman of Growing is necessary in order to grow a new Waygate. Being that the ToG is almost certainly a ter'angreal of some sort, and being that there were many Ogier "tribes" after the breaking, it makes sense that the AS who created the Ways made several, if not dozens, of these ToG's. In KoD, Chapter 15 (thanks to an entry in the wot wiki) Elayne describes Avihiendas feelings about a very unusual ter'angreal: Ogier cannot channel, but they do sing. And holes that are not exactly holes sounds almost like gateways. What purposes or devices have been described in the books (no AMOL spoilers!) - ter'angreals, machines,…

Do you think the Whitecloaks have been criminally underused in the story? Hear me out. It really feels like, for a force that's as large and as well trained as the Children of the Light are said to be, and considering their credentials (having one of the 5 great captains as their strategic mind, the only antagonistic one for that matter), it really feels like they should've had more of an impact on the plot than they've ended up having. All of Niall's scenes merely set up stuff that never really comes to pass. Then he dies, then after the Seanchan force them out, they've just been meandering around. Their scenes are pretty much Dramatic Irony incarnate and it's gettin…

I've always wondered why the sky above SG when seen from a distance looks normal, but when in the Pit of Doom there are "Striated Clouds". I mean, one can vaguely say the Pattern is thin there and strange things happen in SG, but are there any specific explanations for why the sky looks different?

CHAPTER 13: In the process of discovering the 'bowl of the winds' (in Tel'aran'rhiod) Elayne and Nynaeve use need in order to find something that will convince the hall not to go back to Elaida. On their first attempt they end up in an unused storeroom in Tar Valon. They dismiss Tar Valon and continue searching. Does anyone know, or have any theories as to what it was in the storeroom that could have convinced the hall not to go back to Elaida?

I was wondering if anyone had given any thought to the differences in the use of the a'dam that might be present when the bracelet is on the arm of someone other than a trained sul'dam. Specifically, a sul'dam as we know is someone who can learn to channel, but because of seanchan beliefs and practice is not taught and remains ignorant. The a'dam creates a link between two women who can channel by which one gains control over the other and their contol of the One Power. What i am interested in is if the person on the bracelet end of the a'dam can channel fully can she link with the woman on the collar end forcefully? at all? for example: when Nynaeve and Elay…

Ok, so this has been nagging at me for a while. We have at least one reference (the healing of Mat) to Aes Sedai choosing one angreal from among several. In this particular case, Siuan selected Vora's Sa'angreal, the most powerful one in the tower. Her thought process indicates to me that she had at least considered using one of lesser strength. The question is why? Surely, for any job requiring augmentation, the logical thing to do is simply pick up the most powerful *angreal available, do the job, then put it back? I have been pondering the reasons, and I've come up with: 1) Angreal are more closely attuned to some channellers than others. Perhaps in order…

Hi everyone, first of all I'm new here and sorry if this thread is elsewhere but here goes; I started the Wheel of Time series about 5 years ago and quickly raced through to book 8. Sadly I began to get extremely busy and had to stop reading and after about 2 years I would look at the series on my bookshelf and think I really need to finish those. Anyway about 2 months ago I started reading them again and have jsut finished book 3, the reason I am starting this thread is to ask, what are the books like when Brandon Sanderson takes over? I know the writing style is going to be different and a lot of the material was already written so it is still Jordan's story but is …

I didn't see a link to this "tournament of Heroes" on the main site or in the forums, so I think I post it here? http://www.hpb.com/heroes/ Rand has made it to the quarterfinals, but he's losing against Xena, warrior Princess. The bracket is a sham (how could Han Solo beat Goku round 1?) but I still feel the need to support my favorite Hero, and thought I might give my fellow Randlanders the chance to vote too. Personally, I think it should be either Neo or the Doctor vs Rand in the finals, but I know Rand beats Xena in terms of bravery and power. Even if we scale him back to like... book 4 he still smokes her. If this is in the wrong place, or not supposed to be he…

So, people have made a big deal out of the Asian influences in WOT and that's fair enough, as RJ admitted them, but, as far as I know, no one's mentioned the obvious Norse influence. You've got Mat, who is obviously Odin for various reasons which I wonh't expound on here, you've got Rand al'Thor (obviously) though that, and being a guy who fights evil are about the only similarities between Rand and Thor, and you've got Ragnarok of course. Plus, the Dark One's method of touching the world, at least initially; extremes of heat and cold, seems reminiscent of Muspellheim and Nifilheim. Finally, the Pattern itself could be interpreted as similar to Wyrd, depending on your in…

I'm new to this forum so if this is in the wrong place let me know. I'm looking for the book/chapter where Elayne is healed by Sheriam for drawing in the heat/flame of a candle and gets a blistered arm. I've googled for the info but all that comes up is Chapter 7 in TSR. I've tried looking it up but all that comes up is where Elayne has the memory of it happening in the White Tower in TSR. This is talked about in The Shadow Rising after Rand does it. It has been awhile since I've read the books the first time. I have a memory of the scene, but I may for just created in my head LOL. Thanks. I've been listening to the books on audio book at work since I …

To what extent does the worldview of the Wheel of Time harmonize with or conflict with your own worldview? And how did this add to or detract from your enjoyment of the books? These may seem like silly questions to ask of a fantasy series, but I will give my answers, which may help explain why I ask the questions: In reading a fantasy book, I certainly don't expect everything in the fantasy world to work the way that the real world works -- if it did, it wouldn't be fantasy! Taking the Wheel of Time as an example, we are introduced to several concepts right at the start which do not exist in the real world, such as a system of magic (saidar and saidin) and mythical…

Soo, this isn't about AMOL but I thought I'd best put ti here to be safe, that way people could feel free to put spoilers in their replies, as the answer to the question may well require reference to AMOL. So, what does it mean that the Dragon's Fang showed up in the stained glass window in Tel'aihranrhiod in TOM? I've only got one theory, and it's a very thin one. Maybe it was reflecting the future. The problem with that, of course, is that the Towers don't unite, which leads you to think "possible future." This is kind of born out by how TARR works, especially towards the end of the series. Another potential problem is that ther Wise ONes didn't know wh…

Hello everyone, is there a map with an overview of all the main characters movements somewhere? I'm pretty sure I saw something like that a while ago, but i can't find it anymore. I only found this one: http://www.ramblesnonsense.com/?page_id=8 which unfortunatley only covers Rand, Mat and Perrin. Does anyone know a different one with all the main characters? Thanks for the help :)

Hello. I start this topic to talk about something that has been mentioned before, but needs a new place since in AMoL we have THE huge hint about it: TAR is the Real World and the Waking World is just a fold created and maintained by the Creator, imposing his will over it to create what the characters percieve as physic laws, etc... I had this idea for a long time but thought "nah, I'm just overthinking"; until I read a topic created by someone who shares my PoV, fionwe. There's not much I can add to it, since his idea is almost exact to the one I had. Some things I think strongly support this theory are: -Ta'veren: They are a mechanic used by the Pattern to "…

Hi all, I'm not completely finished aMoL but I just read something that confused me a bit during the chapter The Last Battle (p.689-692). From previous encounters with Gray Men I remember that normal weapons do not harm them, nor does that one power (if memory serves, the threads can't touch them, right?). So that's why during the attack of the Gray Men on Mat and Tuons tent, there were some things that didn't add up for me: 1. "Siuan used the One Power to haul one of the Gray Men away from Mat." - How is this possible given what previous encounters with Gray Men showed regarding the One Powers affect on them? All in all there was said to be three Gray Men. …

So what would you do if you lived in the WoT world and where a man who found out that he could channel? Now just to make the question a bit more difficult let us say that this is in the year 700 or something like that so the cleansing of saidin, which you off course would not know of or think to be possible, would be far in the future. So you are a man, you can channel and your future prospects are to either die, go mad and go on a rampage with the Power or get caught by the Aes Sedai and get gentled. So what do you do? Do you kill yourself, try to use the Power as little as possible and live undetected? Do you declare yourself the Dragon and hope for glory? Do you go to …

It's something that's been bothering me ever since the Seanchan first appeared. Do Sul'dam genuinely care for their Damane? I mean, I know they're fond of them sometimes. As in, are there Sul'dam who care about them to the point where they might even give their life to protect a damane? When reading scenes about Damane I'm always disturbed, finding it cute and disturbed that I'm finding it cute. I ask because I'm imagining how well a "A boy and his dog" type story would work with Sul'dam and Damane.

I accidentally deleted the previous poll in the original topic post, sorry about that (but the votes are still tabulated in the original topic). Anyway, I've set up the poll for round 2 (and beyond) on this topic, so we are good to go from here. Voting will continue through Sunday, March 31st. Get your votes in for your favorite four books to advance (one from each region). Enjoy!

In the spirit of college basketball's March Madness postseason tournament, I've set up a bracket for all 16 Wheel of Time books (including New Spring and the Encyclopedia). In the poll question, I set up four regions that mimic the regions in the March Madness tournament. There are four books in each of the region. For the first round of voting, vote for two books in each of the four regions in the poll. After a few days of voting, the brackets will be reset with the 8 books that get the most votes and advance to the next round. Hope this makes sense, this pool is purely for fun. If you have any questions on it, please let me know. Thanks!
