I just finished reading the Ravens prologue that was included in the split version of EotW. By my estimation it takes place about 8 years before EotW. It is clear that ravens have been sent to spy on the Two Rivers folk. it is pointed out they are focusing on the young boys and one showed interest in Egwene. It suprised me that the Dark One or Ishamael knew to check here so many years before Trollocs finally were sent after Rand. Do we have any information about what the Shadow knew of the Dragon's location at this time? Did they always know the Dragon was in the Two Rivers, but didn't act?

Hello, everyone! Below is the report and Q&A from the Salt Lake City Signing! February 1, 2013 was a rare sunny winter day in Salt Lake City when we assembled at Weller Book Works to meet Brandon Sanderson and more than 150 of his amazing fans. Brandon has often shared that the owners of this bookstore were so supportive in his early years as an author, before most Wheel of Time fans even knew his name, that it was terrific to have such a large crowd, especially with the January 8th Midnight Release Party in Provo having happened only about 45 minutes away from Salt Lake. The gathering crowd included people of all ages, young and old. There were even infant…

This thread is meant as a place where you can post a review of AMoL. Read the book? Have a lot to say about it? Well, this is where you can say it all in one (preferably coherent) big post. To allow this post to serve its purpose, we encourage you to ask questions regarding another's review, but please don't debate any one review in depth, so as to drown the discussion of others. If a controversial point arises, we ask that you take the discussion to the quality or errata threads, or ask for a new one if none exists. This topic will be full spoilers, so if you haven't read through the book yet, continue at your own risk. That's it, go for it.

Can weaves of air be used to cut? I don't think we ever saw that happen, but in my head I keep thinking you could make a small enough weave of air to cut. I mean, they used it to punch, so why not cut? Writing a post AMOL story and I'd like to know if this would be "Plausible"

Honest question. I'm on book 8 and I despise her. Oh, there are characters that I hate (Faile, the wise ones, etc) but Egwene is one of the only characterss who drains my enthusiasm to read the series. and for the life of me I DON'T know why. She doesn't seem particularly worse than any of the other women when you broke down what she does and how she acts bit by bit. But still, something about her tickles a raw nerve for me. She's almost as bad for me as Dany from A Song Of Ice And Fire (the latter was actually the reason I abandoned that series altogether eventually) I guess I'm asking what the common criticisms of her character are. I know she's a bit of a controver…

Curious if this was ever discussed. But it appears to me that Tuon may have started channeling in KOD. Ch.11 A Hell in Maderin - during the knife fight in the street. Mat turns to face the 8 attackers he sees. At the end of the fight, he notices that Tuon and Thom had not run due to another band of attackers. 6 men with swords would have been a tough fight for gimped Thom and unarmed Tuon and Selucia. Both Tom and Selucia take wounds, however Mat notices that Tuon has not a scratch. "Mat wondered whether Tuon had taken part there, too, but he could not see a spot of blood on her anywhere....'Im an old man and sometimes I imagine I see things that can't be, but luckily…

Hey I have not seen a topic on the best quotes from the series. I had what I felt might be one of the best and it inspired me to not be just a reader but to join the forums. This is from from WH Chapter 10. Min, Avienda and Elayne are bonding Rand. Min say to Avi: "Min speard her hands. "I don't know what anybody's toes have to do with anything, or feet either, but I'm not going anywhere until you talk to them Rand!" " This was in response to Avi's comments on Jie 'e ' toh (probably spelled wrong - I was not raised as a noble) If any of you have great sayings from the series. Thanks.

Simple question: Not including the encyclopedia, have any other books expanding the series been totally ruled out entirely by Harriet? The world is huge and detailed, covering thousands of years. There are many stories one could tell that would be awesome to read I think. To me, Robjert Jordan has created the richest fantasy world that I enjoy, so it would be a shame not to see his vision continue, even if under different people. Obviously, others probably feel different but whatever. Just curious what the "official" word is, if there is one. Thanks.

Here's the general timeline as I see it... Min sees Rand first and has a viewing showing herself and 2 others in love with him. Elayne and Rand meet next. Elayne and Min come together in the White Tower and Min says something which gets Elayne thinking. Rand meets Aviendha last. Elayne and Min come together again in Salidar and Elayne gets the full story of the viewing from Min, though neither know who the third woman is yet. Min leaves Salidar for Caemlyn with the embassy to Rand. Aviendha arrives in Salidar after Min has already left and presents herself to Elayne (they first met in Tear, but had no idea Aviendha would fall for Rand at that time). Elayne explains th…

In my opinion Rand should never have picked up three chicks, but he's a swinger so who am I to criticize his lifestyle. But it did get me thinking, who would I choose? There are a lot of handsome men and women in the books so it's a toughy, but I would go with one of these, in order: Lanfear Berelain Moiraine

Okay. So I have spent the past hour re-reading a bunch of parts of WoT with circles but I can't find something to disprove or prove my theory. If there are two circles, one led by a man, on by a woman, and both were wielding Saidar and Saidin, could the man see the woman using Saidar? I'm pretty sure I'm wrong but I've been trying to find an example in the book where it says they couldn't see the opposite power. I suppose I'm trying to figure out cross-gender teaching of the one power. I've had a lot of people tell me one way or the other, but none have any proof.

Should I just close the book now and try and preserve the story in my head? I could let my imagination run wild and hold on to the story. Or I could finish the book and move on. What to do?

I was going through removing off topic comments, but it turned out to be pretty much all of them. To be clear this is for the discussion of the book through to the end of chapter 40, not for the discussion of whether spoilers should or should not be shared. Any further off topic comments will be deleted.

So preordered the leatherbound copy from B&N back in November. Check status today still not shipped, call them and guess what they don't even have the book in the warehouse and now it could take up to 8 weeks to get. So just wondering if anyone else got screwed by B&N?

I listen to audiobooks at work (Data entry) and about 3 months ago I started the series over because it was about 5+ years since. I tried to start New Spring but for whatever reason I got bored (I think I was listening to Mistborn at the same time). Well, I've finished 1-14, and I'm wondering if it is still exciting to go through.

Has everyone seen this site? http://blogs.cofc.edu/thetruesource/ The official home of the "Robert Jordan Papers" (at The College of Charleston)! I really hope this means that WOT scholarhsip will gain the same foothold that Tolkien scholarship has in academia. It's a mixed blessing but there is obviously room for deep discussion, analysis & appreciation here! The EOTW floppies & typescript make me want to run out & spend a week or two at the archives! Maybe I will, one day. Hmmm, I have a brother who lives in N.C....

Long-time lurker here. Thought I might share with everyone the rough timeline I put together this weekend that intermixes the chapters of the past 2 books. I was preparing for another reread and really wanted to do this one as close chronologically as possible. (The Plot thread graphs from http://encyclopaedia-wot.org/books/index.html came in very helpful, btw). Since I haven't read them in a while, I'm sure there will be some mistakes and references you can't catch from just the chapter threads. But I've searched the site and the web and couldn't find anything like it so far. I have nothing but understanding for Team Jordan's need to build and suspend tension so the …

I have read WoT at least 6 times, and there are some glaring spots, combining which you can actually deduce the climax of the series. In this post, I'll be talking about Rand al'Thor. Basically, when the writer starts pointing out that the protagonist is going to die, die and die, you have to understand that it's going to be exactly the opposite. Even the greatest fantasy author - JRR Tolkien - used this device for Frodo Baggins. In the entire LoTR, there were talks of Frodo dying in the end, killed by Sam, committing suicide and likewise. But in the end, he survived. In Harry Potter series, Harry Potter was slated to die to kill Voldemort, but he survived to tell the…

I am an historian of the early American Republic. Before that I was a WOT fan. Through the course of my studies, when I read Jackson material, I have a distinct feeling of WOT. I'll give you a few examples: -Robert Jordan was a Military man and was well versed in Military heros. Although not celebrated today as he used to be, Jackson is the second greatest U.S. military hero (after Washington). -Rand has red hair, 6 feet or taller, grey eyes. Same with Jackson. -Rand was orphaned. So was Jackson. -Rands coats (the style of the age) are the same cut as the military of Jackson's age. -The description of Ebou Dar is a dead ringer for New Orleans. -Rand has a title o…
