Wheel of Time Books

  1. Is aMoL the most anticipated novel since the 7th Harry Potter Book? I've noticed that it's been the #1 best seller on Amazon for nearly a week (recently dethroned by "Shred: The Revolutionary Diet: 6 Weeks 4 Inches 2 Sizes," on account of new years resolutions), but currently sits at #2. I find this pretty impressive, considering that it hasn't even been released yet and, according to amazon, has been in the top 100 for 103 days... So I raise the question: Is this the most anticipated novel since the Deathly Hallows? Or perhaps, just the most anticipated novel belonging to the fantasy genre in that timespan?

So my question is exactly what the thread is called. I've been reading the fifth book and I'm a little lost about where Samara is exactly. Which nation is it in? And where is it relative to Amador or Jehannah?

So it is currently just after midnight on the 7th where I live and I realize that tomorrow the book comes out. At the age of 27 I have been waiting for this moment for half of my life. It seems like only yesterday I was reading The Eye of the World for the first time. It was an incredibly hot summer and I locked myself in my room going through book after book. Taking them out from the local library because I couldn't afford to buy them. Wheel of Time came to me at a difficult time in my life and really helped me out. It has been a constant companion ever since. I've read the books many times since then usually going through the entire series once a year. It is hard to bel…

Just curious if anyone else is re-reading any/all the books before AMoL releases. And, if so, how far are you? Do you plan on being done before reading AMoL? Are there certain books you plan on skipping regardless? Also, have you stumbled upon certain old passages that you might have almost forgotten about but that you really enjoy? I'm about halfway through DR. No plans to make it through all the books in this re-read, just trying to refresh myself on how the characters first started. Once December hits I might just read through some overviews and pick out a few select chapters and then just skip to the last 2 or 3 to try to have a fresh mind of wha…

  7. What events do you need to happen in the finale, such that them not happening would leave you disappointed? For me it's Rand and the Dark One having a conversation/confrontation. I want to hear them discussing the world, what he wants to do, etc.. Thankfully the Memory of Light from Jan 1 pretty much guarantees that this will happen. I also need Rand and Moraine to have a reunion. Though I think this seems pretty likely, and necessary for the plot. How about the rest of you?

  8. Started by Dollhouse,

Ah, the book will be released soon and I will finally be able to read it. So before I do, lets go with one last crazy theory for you all to chew on: The Dark Prophecy found on the wall in the second book reads: Daughter of the Night, she walks again. The ancient war, she yet fights. Her new lover she seeks, who shall serve her and die, yet serve still. Who shall stand against her coming? The Shining Walls shall kneel. Now we all assume that this refers Mierin, or more accurately, to Lanfear... but is that really so? With the appearance of Cyndane and her possiblyt being Mierin reincarnate (wouldn't that surprise a lot of people if she isn't?) the part about he…

I've been brainstorming ways to seal the Dark One away: If the Dark One's prison is the pattern itself, and the threads of the pattern are people's lives, and the Dark One is escaping through holes in the pattern where the pattern is thinnest, then some ways you could seal away the Dark One would be: 1. Impregnate as many women as possible to create more threads. Preferably around Shayol Ghul. This is of course explains why Randy Old Thor, and Lewd Therin Telamon, two of the sleaziest heroes, were chosen as the Dragon. And why Mat is so important to the last battle. And why Perin, who is too moral for such things, has to die (according to prophesy). Rand's plan is…

This is something I remembered quite randomly. In The Great Hunt, in Rand's meeting with Siuan, Moiraine and Verin, it's hinted that Rand inadvertently embraces saidin, and that it's felt by Verin, if not all three of the Aes Sedai. She touched her forehead, then peered at the dampness on her fingers. “He is strong. And as stubborn as you said, Moiraine. Much stronger than I expected. We may have to gentle him after all before. . . .” Her eyes widened. “But we cannot, can we? The Prophecies. The Light forgive us for what we are loosing on the world.” “The Prophecies,” Moiraine said, nodding. “Afterwards, we will do as we must. As we do now.” “As we must,” the A…

I have been reading this series on E-books since WH and I have a few hard backs of the others, but I would like to begin collecting the entire series. IS there a print run or something that is more valuable? A quick search found some advanced reader's copies and a few neat looking sheath books with a more recent print date. Does anyone with any knowledge of this be interested in helping me figure out which books to search for? I would ideally like to find a 1st edition print of all the hard back books printed by the same press.

We know what the Horn does and its significance, but my question is: Is it a ter'angreal? For the most part, 'magical' artifacts are divided up into the three angreal, sa'angreal(just really powerful angreal), and ter'angreal. Now, we all know what ter'angreal are and do(which varies), but for some reason I can't see the Horn as being 'just another ter'angreal'. I don't think I have ever read a character saying that it is ter'angreal for that matter; which is odd since the term seems to be used constantly for almost every other item that does something outside the realm of common physics. It is said to be from before the AoL, so before the power was consciou…

I was re-reading the chapters when the Seanchan attack the White Tower and Egwene grabs the terangreal to defend herself and the novices. There was a Green sister running through the tower and thinking to herself about what a joke the battle ajah was because they can do nothing to stop the Seanchan or their weaves. I've thought a lot of the Aes Sedai have been pretty hyped up by their reputation even though most of them never do anything at all. Is this the case with all of the Green Ajah? When Cadsuane is in Far Madding and takes her little group outside the Guardians to teach them Nyneave is grudgigly impressed by her abilities and even Alivia thinks…

Alot of his stuff when describing the one power makes me think he did. It makes colours brighter, you can hear more, everything seems more real. You feel alive when taking it and don't want to go back to the normal world. Everyone is very reluctant to let it go once they've seized it and have to restrain themselves from doing it too often. If you seize too much of it you die. And finally, once you've been cut off from it forever many people end up despondonent and killing themselves. Guy served two tours in vietnam, I'm sure he's gone through a lot. Sorry if this has been discussed a million times before, I'm a noob :)

Sorry this theory is presented so dirty, but the simple becomes difficult on a kindle. My true investigations is to prove that Roderan is simply a Proxy for Dem (good luck, I know. I have had Roderan as Dem since WH). It is just my gut. Anyways, I digress. During my research into the aforementioned topic I came across what I believe to be a fantastic candidate for the gun in TDR. Again sorry for the lack of excerpts, it is difficult and I always lose my posts. Shara is the gun. TDR CH 39 Mentioned in passing by Egwene. Connected to Cairhairen (sp?) But it isn't really necessary. In addition, it certainly has been hanging around. LoC CH 6 …

Saw this in another topic, thought I should bring it up. Cadsuane seems to be gathering Aes Sedai at the Silver Swan, an inn in Caemlyn. It is mentioned consistently throughout the series. Where were they or what were/are they doing in the attack on Caemlyn? We saw no evidence of their presence in the Prologue and Chapter 1, will their presence have any role to play, perhaps retaking Caemlyn? Is this an oversight? What do you guys think?

Let me start by saying that other people have tried to make this claim before, but as far as I know they've done it without making a certain part of the argument coherently. Aemon al'Caar al'Thorin was the former King of Manetheren. "al'Thorin" sounds suspiciously like "al'Thor." You might say "al'Thor" just means "son of Thor," but if that was still the Two Rivers naming convention and it still meant that, wouldn't Rand's name be Rand al'Tam instead of al'Thor? I'm not sure how this works with women, but wouldn't Egwene's name either be Egwene al'Brandelwyn or al'Marin? Or ay'Marin? "Aybara" is another example of that not making perfect sense. So, my question is thi…

"It's Cadsuane. She is going to teach you something, you and the Asha'man. All the Asha'man, I mean. It's something you have to learn, but I don't know what it is, except that none of you will like learning it from her. You aren't going to like it at all." Just random thoughts before aMOL do you think this learning applies to all the darkfriend Asha'man as well and those that have been 13x13? It doesnt say only light sided Asha'man need to learn this, but if thats the case it seems like it has nothing to do with the last battle or manners since dark friend Asha'man would learn it to?

  21. I came across this post in a well known review Blog about the huge chapter. In it, Bradon commented saying: Wow. 72 scenes, 79,000 words, so an average of 1000 words per scene. The scenes are divided among 31 distinct characters. On average, Rand has 8000 words here, Egwene and Mat 6000. I guess the other eight big characters are Elayne, Perrin, Nynaeve, Aviendha, Faile, Tuon, Min and Moiraine? Wow, this is going to be epic. http://aidanmoher.com/blog/2012/12/asides/a-memory-of-light-has-a-50000-word-chapter-with-70-80-character-viewpoints/

I just joined here but I've been lurking for some time now. I have read all of the WOT books and I am a massive fan of them. In addition to reading them, I also write my own fan fiction that I am thinking about posting here eventually if you all are interested. Nonetheless, I read this article 4 Expectations for The Wheel of Time’s Concluding Book and found it a great read and was thinking we could establish a form of discussion here about what we expect of the final installment? I've just reread the whole series in the last week or so. I told myself I wasn't going to, but then, I started and couldn't stop. Oh well. Here's one thing that annoyed me this time around, more than any other. Not Nynaeve, not Rand, nobody acknowledges the role she played in killing Rhavin. In all her accomplishments, for which she does get credit from disparate parties, nobody gives her credit for this, Rand never thanks her, though we know he loves and appreciates her more than anyone else does, save for Lan himself. Heck, when people talk about her on forums and whether they like or dislike her, I don't ever see this point raised either. She may have used Mogy…

While this doesn't have much bearing on the outcome of the story, I found it interesting nonetheless. It appears that Avi herself changed the purpose of those glass pillars. After completing her walk-through of the pillars in ToM, she sat and contemplated the future of the Aiel in detail. She then stood up and went to the pillars to try and interpret the way the were made. She then stated that she was confused as to whether she was touching the Pillars or they were touching her. She also commented on their awareness. I think she has forever changed the purpose of those Pillars. That is why they activated for her again. She changed their purpose from showing the…

  26. So i finished my re-read way too early. Got caught up in the Wheel of Time and finished a week ago. I've gone back and read some of my favorite chapters cause I was bored. I read the prologue and listened to chapter two and read mats excerpt. Now I have nothing to read for the next week and a half. I don't want to re-read By Grace and Banners Fallen because I want to read the whole aMoL and don't want to skip the prologue when i read it. Anyone else fail in their attempt to time your re-read perfectly with the release of aMoL?

I was thinking about the last charge of the Malkieri at the end of ToM. Though there may still be an eleventh hour save coming that keeps Lan from dying similar to Rand saving Maradon, I was thinking on if he died. So, Lan is killed in this (which the viewing Min had of Nyn weeping over a grave implies as a very strong possibility) along with his people. Now, when Mat blows the Horn of Valere, does Lan appear (along likely with Noal since he is Jain Farstrider). And it is said that occasionally new people are added to the number, so if this were true, would Lan be a new Hero or an old one who has been spun out many times but his past lives were unknown. I think th…
