So, I looked for something like this elsewhere in the forums and couldn't find anything, but if I'm rehashing old ground, I'm sorry about that. Also my first time posting a new topic, so if I mess this up somehow, sorry about that as well. So, I was on one of those epic Wikipedia link tangents and I found that I had somehow worked my way from Gettysburg to the people of Danu, the legendary seafaring race that shows up in Irish mythical history. That was all well and good, but I noticed that the title of the page was the original Irish name for them, Tuatha de Danann, and it occurred to me I'd seen one of those words somewhere before. In the Irish usage here Tuatha mea…

1. How long has the dreadlord conversion and training been going on? Who has been training the sight blinders? As I understand it, Ishamael has been fading in and out every 1000 years or so and hasn't been active that long before the current epoch (maybe 20-30 years)? 2. Do these dreadlords have extended lifespans? Protection from the taint? It would seem that they'd have to, but I remember RJ saying that the protection generally wasn't available when the DO was sealed away and that there were male forsaken who survived the sealing but died from the taint. 3.Are all of these guys Aiel that were directly converted or has there been a breeding program going on? Is…

When they went into the Finn world to get Moiraine.....Why did they take Noal? I understand he was clever and could handle himself surprisingly for an old man. If it was me going in there, and I had to take Mat and one other, I'd take an Ashaman. They knew they had to cheat with fire, music, light, and iron. The Ashaman could channel light and fire himself and not have to worry about running out of the fireworks. Mat knew people could channel in there, he seen Rand coming out with a sword of fire in the stone of Tear. I just always thought there could have been a better choice for their 3rd person. Not that Noal didn't get the job done, but I think I would hav…

There is a reference to a stranger who came to Emmond's Field 5 years before the events of EotW. Rand's POV states that he was, "hiding from some trouble in Baerlon that no one seemed to understand." Does anyone have any idea who this was or what they were referring to? I have little faith that it was mentioned just for the sake of mentioning it.

So every time that I read EotW I'm reminded of how this was going to originally be a short series. This book in particular has so many things to it that simply don't fit in to it like the rest of the books. One thing that's major to me that I just noticed is Rand's dream he has in Baerlon, where he meets Ba'alzamon. Eye of the World Chapter 14: The Stag and the Lion Page: 204 The flames laughed. "So there is some spirit in you after all. Perhaps you are the one. Little good it will do you. The Amyrlin Seat will use you until you are consumed, just as Davian was used, and Yurian Stonebow, and Guaire Amalasan, and Raolin Darksbane. Just as Logain is bei…

Okay, everyone be calm, I'm bringing up the gay character in aMoL question. As some of you know Brandon mentioned a while back that there was a character in TofM who was gay, but the scene involving it got pushed back to aMoL. Now lets not got back into whether that was right or not--we have a standing instant lock in place for if that subject gets out of hand--this is purely about the fact of identifying him--or rather, them. I believe Emarin (who is of course actually Algarin). Firstly, it fits--we know the Androl scene was originally intended for TofM, just as we know the scene revealing the gay character was originally meant for TofM before being relocated. Second…

While discussing with my fantasy geek friends this question have come up a few times, if a person was to go to the Eelfinn and ask to become a channeler could the Finn grant that with or is the One Power outside of their ability to affect? On a similar note but something which might be easier if making someone a channeler is something the Finn can not do, could they heal someone who have been severed or burned out or give anyone the knowledge of how to do it? This is off course just a random question since the situation have never come up in the books, but I have found it a interesting thing to speculate about and also I play allot of WoT RPG and the question have come u…

Finally read the prologue and had a though on Bair. I'm predicting that we won't get to see Bair reveal her vision as a major part of the plot. Instead, I think it's more likely that bair will see something different to what Avi saw, something far less disasterous for the Aiel. It possible Bair will feel compelled not to reveal everything she saw towards the end of the book when she and her experience finally reenteres the plot. mostly i see it as a final note to let us know that 'things will work out'. Bair can't channal, unless she gets pick up she's pretty much stuck far away from telling what she's seen. I like the idea of the WOs beginning a tradi…

In LoC Chapter 13, before finding the Bowl of Winds using the Need ability in TAR, Elayne and Nynaeve use need (focusing on something to help Rand). And end up in the angreal store in the white tower, before deciding it is pointless to continue and end up trying to go elsewhere. I initially assumed it was the horn of Valere, that took them there, as it is where Fain gets his dagger back from, but TFoH Chapter 19, Fain seems to imply that the horn is not in the same place as he does not think he has time to go and get it. So what could it be my thoughts include the following: 1. The other super sa'angreal for men that Lanfear seems to imply exists in TSR Chapte…

So after reading the prologue to AMoL, I am even more convinced that Taim is in fact the false dragon formerly known as Guaire Amalason and I believe from the very beginning was a protege of Ishamael. Amalason was the most powerful of the false dragons, and it was he who during the Second War of the Dragon conquered virtually all of the westlands with the exception of Tear and Tar Valon. More is known about Amalason and his actions during the Second War of the Dragon, than any of the lives of the other false dragons. It is my belief that Amalason was a darkfriend and false dragon set up and mentored by Ishamael and is in fact presntly known as Mazrim Taim. Lets go throu…

Sorry, havent been trolling the forums lately so if this horse has been beat to death and boyond, forgive me. Rand must break the Wheel in order for this to be "The Last Battle". As Harid Fel states, eventually they will bore into the prison again due to the Wheel. At some point it was whole, at some point they drilled into it, at some point they patched it. It will all just come around again and again. Peace (Cant wait for the next book. I get wood thinking about it)

I just finished reading New Spring last night and I was really surprised at how much ground there was left to cover before Eye of the World. I may have missed something but I don't think I saw any hint that pointed towards the two rivers. Also how did Siuan get raised to amyrlin? Was Sierin a member of the black ajah? It's been a couple of years since I read the series so I'm probably forgetting some stuff.

Hi All I've tried to consolidate the Moridin/Taim (via disguise) I've seen posted elsewhere and post a few additional pieces that have been missed or are based upon recent BS quotes. I've borrowed liberally from other posts. I've tried to limit this to information that points specifically to Taim being Moridin not Taim being a bad guy generally (which not really disputed at this point). I'm not sure where I come out on this. There seem to be a lot of very specific clues that point in that direction but also a lot of problems. 1. The True Power After Rand uses the True Power, he is identified as having as having an aura of darkness/shadow. Taim ha…

THIS ENTIRE THREAD DEALS WITH A SPOILER FROM THE FIRST CHAPTER OF AMOL. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. In the first chapter of AMoL, we read this: I'm on the record elsewhere as being of the opinion that Last Battle signage is an absurd waste of time. However, a number of folks have disagreed with me, and that is a thing which reasonable people can do. So, the purpose of this thread is to give everyone an opportunity to post exactly what they think should be written on the signs, and maybe where they should be put and how they should be distributed. Feel free to be creative. This doesn't have to be a serious conversation.

I've thought about this and re-read the excerpt several times over. I can't escape the sense that Mat's avoidance of everyone and everything is contrived. I'll explain: 1) His fear that he might be implicated in Tylin's murder is plausible - a mild stretch - but plausible. Rumormongering would show that he is not, but this doesn't stretch believability too far. However; 2) Avoiding Petra at the Gate? The last thing Mat did was plant a purse of gold in his large friend's hand. Did he believe that Petra would be a forgetful sudden enemy? 3) Avoiding the Deathwatch Guards and especially Furyk Karede: This one really puts me off. How does Mat figure Furyk …

So theres a rumor going around that Rand will die in the last book. Shocking. Another rumor I read is that Elayne dies... Hey who raises those kids? Mat or Perrin? Who would be the Godparents (assuming they are all baptized, but not important). Silly topic?

I own the Wheel of Time audio books, and am about half way through Tower of Midnight. It's ... not confusing ... but strange, to be reading / listening to Perrin in the dream world at day X, and the chapter before having heard about Egwene on day X + 15 (or what have you). I can't help but think it would be quite enjoyable to listen to the books in their chronological order. Is there a list somewhere that shows the range of days covered for each chapter in TGS and TOM, such that one could then order their audio books in such a way as to listen to things in their 'proper' time order? Thanks. :)

During the investigation for Black ajah, they found Talene, who refused to "retake" oath and they put her on the Chair and basically tortured her, until she decided to forgo her oath to DO, but her life wasn't threatened, so she betrayed DO without reaching the day of her death.

Ever since Lanfear's return as Cyndane, she seemed like a fully-fledged operative of the Shadow, albeit with a reduced status and less independence, most likely punished for hoping to overthrow the Dark One together with Rand and undermining other Forsaken to reach this goal. She attended the Forsaken meetings in WH and KoD, she went to battle near Shadar Logoth at the Cleansing the way most other Forsaken did, and in TGS Graendal mentions that Cyndane and Moghedien spend their time rallying Darkfriends against Perrin and Mat, occasionally appearing in the south. And yet, in the prologue to AMoL, she is suddenly exempt from the last Forsaken meeting and introduction o…

Was beginning my third read-throug of the books and there is always one scene in the books that I really like! When Mat is in the White Tower after being healed from the dagger taint when he "whoops" Galads and Gawain around with a quarter staff! From the Dragon Reborn. So since I recently started in these forums I began to wonder what everyone elses favorite scene is! (ofcourse its hard to pick one!)

Okay, so I'm not talking about which of the Forsaken has been the most successful villain or done the most damage or been the smartest, cleverest, etc. Just which one do you find the most frightening, from a reader's POV? I first read the books when I was pretty young and proabably still afraid of the dark to some extent So this is something I remember. Here are mine: Semirhage - She, to me, is by far the scariest, always has been and still is, for me. Even before we ever see her, the other Forsaken are always going on about how she likes to cause pain just for the pleasure of it. Which we then see, the first time we see her, when she's very methodicaly torturing tha…

Hi Everyone, Lots of good discussions going on about aMoL but one thing I have noticed that has been missing is anything concerning the Ogier. Does anyone else find it odd that we have not heard anything about the Ogier in quite some time? Did they open the book and leave?

I know it's a leap but the similarities between her opposing LTT and Egwene opposing Rand are there. Both are Aes Sedai of standing and both oppose/opposed the Dragon's plans? With Rand's conversation to LTT during VoG when LTT says something like "to correct our mistakes" could this be a minor forshadowing to the fact that LTT failed to bring LPD around to his plan and thus Rand WILL need to bring LPD reborn around to his plan this time around to avoid another breaking? A bit of a leap I know but I do wonder.

Anyone think they got turned by 13x13 at the BT since no one knows where they are? Or are they just minor characters that somehow got overlooked and will be ignored.

So, I've been diligently avoiding this discussion board in anticipation of the release of the prologue in the UK and other Orbit countries today... Only to discover that it's not available in Ireland. WHAT GIVES? I saw on the Orbit site that it's being released in Australia and New Zealand. Ireland always gets the Orbit editions and the new books are always released on the same day as the UK. Is there some sort of time delay going on or what? If thery're just not going to release it here at all, I am so annoyed; there are a metric tonne of WoT fans in Ireland, and not being able to read the prologue and first chapter and discuss them will really detract from my en…

I'm trying to think of a great diet using balefire, but since inanimate objects have their own threads in the pattern, Its not quite working. the best i can think of is - I eat some ice cream, then balefire the cow. I get the satisfaction of the ice cream, but lose the calories.
