At the end of the last age the Forsaken were created when they turned to the Dark One after the prison was opened. Before that there wasn't any knowledge about the Dark Ones Prison the Aes Sedai were fiddling with stuff they didn't understand. The 13 Forsaken were among the most talented Aes Sedai around. So the question I have for theory land is this. Could the Forsaken be bound to the Horn? Now stay with me here. A person can always be saved by turning to the light no matter how long they walk in the shadow. The Forsaken are definitely worthy of legendary status. So in other ages the Forsaken could be good guys and fight along with the Dra…

Hi all, I started an internet radio show about the WoT, and the first episodes were kinda lame because it was just me talking. The next episode is scheduled for Wednesday, May 30 at 1 pm Eastern, and the topic is Mat - specifically his development in EOTW. Are any of you Mat fans interested in calling in to talk about it?

Taim is obviously a new age chosen, as seen from his direct quote "Let the Lord of Chaos Rule" This is only a directive give to the chosen, not to ordinary darkfriends who are often left in the dark as to what is happening. Not only do we have this direct quote, but obviously some of the chosen need to be replaced after Rank killing so many off.

  8. We all have character's foibles we both love and ones that frustrate us, some no end. Which characters foibles really annoy/frustrate you? Rand - His unwillingness to kill women/allow them to die Perrin - constant whinging about not wanting to lead. When he really needs to. Mat - Most of what he does I agree with Egwene - Where to begin. But, if to pick. Then it's seeing being Aes Sedai she thinks it makes whatever she does as correct, and the WT is infallible. Elayne - The constant raising of her chin, when something is said she disagrees with Nynaeve - Arrogance, though it has lessened Aviendha - Seeing violence as the answer Faile - Brea…

I don't know if this is already a topic, but I'd like to get some discussion going on what could be in the letters Verin wrote (other than the ones whose content we know already- Egwene's and Matt's). How much of a role will they play in the new book? What purpose will they fulfill? Who else received them? What did the one written to Alanna say, which made her disappear, and where did she go? I seem to remember her having a stack of them to deliver... Lets discuss

  11. pretend im 10 years I just need to get this out of my mind, to get a clear view of how it works, it might be my non-native englsh brain which messes it up when they talk of dezterity, that womans are more dexterious then men, i sort of know what the word means, or it have a meaning but i can't seem to think how that works on the power, how dexterity works with the power or how that is working comperad to the strength, if you had one character with full power in strenght with zero dexterity and a character with full dexterity and zero strength, how would that work out if its even possible this is how i would to myself describe dexterity, it is like cookin…

Throughout all the books, I see references to the TP being "of the Dark One" and such. I was perusing a few of the different online sites about it and they all agreed. My question is....if the TP is "of the dark one" why can Rand use it? Surely the Dark One isn't hooking him up in an attempt to trick him somehow. Here we see that Rand taps into the true power. He sees a face. But there is no inference that he recognizes the face. No hint that Sanderson/Jordan intended for it to be Moridins face. He identifies the power as "alien" but not "evil" or "foul" as commonly seen when handling the tainted version of saidin. When he points out that he has never felt …

i got to thinking the other day, taht in the descriptions of when they place weaves, it sounds like a very systematic process. so if the description is good enough in an old book, could you learn the right way to place the flows and make a weave without seeing it before hand? is this how Moiraine learned Balefire?

So, who thinks Egwene needs to drop down a few...hundred rungs? Well, Im with you on this one. I think that she left Tar Valon mostly undefended because she is afraid that she might have to fight Rand. Also because she is such an amazing "Dreamer", she thinks that the Seanchean danger is passed. So, when the Seanchean take over the White Tower, what happens to reclaim it? Ill throw out my simple little theory. I believe after Matt successfully repels the shadow in Caemlyn, he returns to the tower with Moraine. She shows him where the Horn of Valor is located. At this point, the Seanchean attack and Matt again decides to blown the horn. The heroes of the horn stop…

I'm doing a reread/relisten - and I'm towards the end of TGH - where we first see and learn all about the a'dam. It always struck me as a bit of a deus ex machina. Every possible way out was thought of by the inventor and blocked. That's what I mean by "too perfect". And of course it needs to be that perfect in order to work in the story. Does anyone else feel that way? So one question. Could a damane, especially a powerful one, pull a "Lews Therin Kinslayer" - quickly draw down enough of the power to destroy herself and those near her - quick enough before she's overcome by the pain of the a'dam? Or even pull enough to still herself?

I've been wondering for a long time what's up with the number 13 in Randland. 13 dreadlords and 13 myrddraal for the 13x13 trick 13 trapped Forsaken 13 Black Ajah in the High Council 13 Towers of Midnight 13 Aiel clans (if you count the Jenn) 13 months in a year 13 Aes Sedai in the largest circle possible with only women. At first I thought it had something to do with the Shadow, but not all references are of the Shadow. Does anyone have any idea where this comes from?

In my discussion in the most overrated character, it was pointed out that there is no Egwene appreciation thread, so I decided to see what would happen if I did. I am one of the few (I think), that has no major problem with Egwene. Sure, she was a little arrogant near the end when she was getting really mad, but she's actually been pretty good. She adapted to the Aiel ways in a way that few wetlanders could. Almost right after becoming Amyrlin, she was able to control what happened and win against the Hall. Although Siuan did help her in the beginning, she did it herself in the end. She was able to rally troops against Elaida, and then she was captured. She was abl…

I started reading a book about the roman empire that focuses on the military might and how their weapons and tactics are. One startling thing I read was that pre unification Italy was basically the same as Murandy with many lords with a more clan based system, with the people being fiercely independant. Another interesting one was that the Germanic tribes where much the same way, and in being so where in fact able to resist the empire. Now to tie it into WoT. The Murandians are very independant, have a clan based society that their lords head, are constantly raiding and fighting each other (much like the aiel actually) Who pulled together under one banner, muc…

I haven't seen a thread exclusively for foreshadowing, so here one is. Any and all examples of foreshadowing--confirmed and opinions--can be posted here. Have fun! I'm currently on my first re-read of the series, in anticipation of AMoL, and I've come across many examples of what I thought were foreshadowing and had nowhere to put them. My most recent finding is this one, from TDR, chapter 17, The Red Sister. It's Egwene's POV, after Sheriam speaks to them about the Gray Man. "Sheriam's watchful eye would make it doubly hard to carry out a search for the Black Ajah. For a moment she felt like laughing hysterically. If the Black Ajah doesn't catch us, S…

There's a quote in the book that said that Nynaeve wouldn't be happy until she healed someone like 3 weeks dead. However, I think this is foreshadowing for something that she will heal that could be seen as death, but isn't. there are a few possiblities for this. Does she heal a huge wound that usually would make someone die and they are about to? Will she do something so Rand can be brought back after his death? Just some possiblities. Discuss.

  27. Started by Dagon Thyne,

I know many people have wandered the meaning of this part of the prophecy for as long as I have been reading the series. I have my own theory to it's meaning. I believe that it has to do with the link between Rand and Moridin. They souls were linked when their bailfire struck each other. By the nature of bail fire, neither of them should exist, but at the same time, both should. They should have both been burned out, but at the same time, both should still exist, because the actions of each one, including using bail fire, should have been erased. The pattern linked them to correct this problem with the pattern. I believe this part of the prophecy means that R…

I feel as if Galad has nearly served his narrative purpose. He brought the Whitecloaks into the fold, and he appears to have helped Perrin (mostly) resolve his Whitecloak issues. Add in the fact that someone on the good side has to die, and I feel he's a strong candidate. Post-FOM I imagine he'll end up "doing what is right" somehow involving a sacrifice for the Light-side. I don't know if this would be "Blood on the Rocks" because we all know that is its own conversation, plus I see no tangible evidence to confirm or deny this theory. I guess it's in play, but a more conventional sacrifice would be likely. Anyways, thoughts? Just realized I was in wrong forum..…

  30. I'm posting here something that I originally planned as a response to a thread on Rand's death in Theoryland. While a lot of this is probably incoherent...thoughts? It is in the context of "the sum of all souls" that I find TAR interesting. TAR is the sum of all the worlds, and it seems like a sort of collective unconscious. It surrounds all the worlds, is the "third constant" apart from the DO and the Creator, and it exists "between the threads of the Pattern". It is the resting place of the Heroes (who are the course correctors of the Pattern when it strays). More importantly, TAR is the place where humans can create. They cannot create a soul, but as we saw wi…
