I found DM by Googling 'wheel of time forums' and Dragonmount was the first thing that came up - and I've never looked back since! So how did YOU find Dragonmount? Note: Anyone else notice that Dragonmount is actually older than Google by a few weeks?

Whenever my dad is on his computer, and only when he is on my computer, my cell phone gets very hot for no reason, even if I am not using it. The screen stays on when I try to shut if off. These are both signs of a hacked phone and I know multiple places online to buy such a device. Here, in the US, it is against the law to read another person's text messages without their knowledge since it's a violation of your Amendment Rights. I am 18, he has no right to spy on me, but he gets annoyed because I don't talk to him, which I have every right to do because he never tried to talk to me when I was growing up, constantly interrupted me and never cared. You can't ignore your c…

  5. Hey all, i'm flying off the South America - Argentina, Bolivia and Peru- in about a month and i was wondering whether anyone could suggest a good book or series based in one or all of these countries. For the record, I'm not looking for gritty realism about a middle ages stockbrokers battle with depression over his blahdy blah blah, (im sure we're all familiar with that kind of crap) Im after a wild, whirlwind adventure full of exploration and fun to pep me up about seeing some of the sites like Machu Pichu. I don't care if it s the most ridiculous fantasy fiction, so long as its exciting. Anyways, any recommendations are much appreciated! And does anyone…

Are the ones listed the only Social Groups? I don't really see one that I fit. The Shayol Ghul one is close, but it doesnt seem like a truely evil Group. I also see one based around Perrin, but not about Mat. I'd be more fit to a Mat Social group of vagabond gamblers, or perhaps a Dark Friends/Forsaken group. Or am I wrong about Shayol Ghul? I'd like to represent either the antagonist or the gambler. No White Knights, shiny shields, or billowing cloaks for me. Unless that cloak is made from the skins of puppies, dead heros, Sarah Palin, and Nickleback. Any ideas for a new faction?

Hello fellow fantasy lovers! I'm currently working on a piece of fan-art for Joe Abercrombies First Law series and I need some help remembering some character descriptions. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/firstrule.jpg answer as many of these as you can please 1) Logen's missing a finger. on which hand? 2) I know Ferros eyes are yellow what eye colors do the rest of them have? 3)Is Bayaz fat? I saw some fan-art where he was depicted that way. 4 )What color is Jezals hair? 5) how tall is Bayaz and Jezal? taller or shorter than I've made them? On which side of the face did Jezal get hit by the mace? If there is anything else wrong with the sketch …

  10. The Dream Archipelago is a vast string of thousands of islands, wrapping themselves around the world between two great continents. Some of them are deserts, some are home to great cities and others have been riddled with tunnels and turned into gigantic musical instruments. The Islanders is a gazetteer to the islands...and a murder story. It's also a musing on the nature of art and the artists who make it. The Islanders is Christopher Priest's first novel in almost a decade, a fact which itself makes it one of the most interesting books to be released this year. His previous novel, The Separation, a stimulating and layered book about alternate versions of WWII, was on…

Where were you on the day that changed the world? What do you remember most about it? For me, it was my first real week of law school. I was living in Queens at the time and commuting to the city. It was an hour and a half long ride, so I got on the bus before the first plane hit and got off the subway after the second one hit, knowing nothing about what was going on. I still remember walking up the stairs at the 116th street stop and having some stranger say, surprised, "the trains are still running?" Knowing nothing, I looked at him like he was crazy. "Of course they are." And I made my way across campus in blissful ignorance. I didn't find out what was h…

Hello all, I need any and all audiobook suggestions. I am going on a 36 hr drive and I need something to listen to. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to list them. Genre and length don't matter! Last time, I listened to Game of Thrones. It wasn't so bad, but I think I want to take a new direction. If I can't find anything interesting, I'll just buy a Wheel of Time book. I was leaning toward KoD, SR, TDR, TGE, and tEotW in that order. I saw the following: The Measure of the Magic: Legends of Shannara The Name of the Wind Wizards first rule My main interests are: Fantasy(duh), religion (evidence and arguments for and against), a…

Anyone else see it?? I was wondering if there are any good books based on the theme. From what I read online all results pointed to works in earlier centuries and where Merlin wasnt the good guy. Anyway, is there any recent work on arthur and merlin? books i mean

Hi everyone, I just sent this same note to the DM staff, but realized it's appropriate to share with all of you as well. Beginning tonight (Sept 16), I will be on a 4-week leave of absence with minimal access to DM, email, or anything. While I won't be TOTALLY OFFLINE (ZOMG!), the intent of this "personal retreat" is to cultivate some silence, reflection, and good energy for myself. I will be travelling during this time. About a week from now I will be visiting Brandon Sanderson's house for a few days and staying with his family. They were very kind (and brave) to invite me into their home for this time. In addition to getting all the fun AMOL secrets1, …

This week is a very memorable week for me for two very important reasons. Four years ago, this world lost the Dragon himself, when James Oliver Rigney passed away. He is now in heaven, telling his stories to anyone who wants to listen to great stories and hear about great characters. One day later, she who was my girlfriend at the time met me at the SeaTac airport. I asked her to marry me two days later on September 20th, 2007, and I officially became her husband on our wedding day exactly one year later. However, this topic is in rememberance to James Oliver Rigney, whom most of us remember best as Robert Jordan. I never had the good fortune to meet this great man, b…

As I'm reading Mistborn I can't help but think that this trilogy wouldn't be difficult to make into a film trilogy. There have been many discussions about how difficult WoT and other fantasy books would be to turn into films. Tolkien sold the film rights to LotR because at the time he was certain that they would never be able to make them into a film. The magic system in Mistborn wouldn't be too difficult to adapt either and would also be very enjoyable to watch. I think that the action scenes in Mistborn are some of the most fun I've ever read. I think some of Feist's work and Robin Hobb's work could be made into films without too much trouble. I suppose given the…

  24. Best-known for his immense doorstoppers, Peter F. Hamilton is also an experienced writer of SF short stories. Manhattan in Reverse is his second collection of short fiction, collecting together seven stories published over the last eleven years. Unlike his first collection, A Second Chance at Eden, where the stories were all set in the same universe, this time around the fiction is not linked by any theme or setting. First up is Watching Trees Grow, previously a stand-alone novella published by PS Publishing. The novella is a riff on one of Hamilton's favourite subgenres, the SF mystery thriller, this time set in an alternate history where the pace of technological de…

I was trolling around eBay the other day because I was bored. I had better things to do, but I didn't feel like doing them. I came by a lot of WoT books that looked far from impressive. It was a lot of eight hardcovers and four of them were missing dust jackets. I checked out the listing, and it was even less impressive. They had some photos, but they were so huge it was hard to tell anything from them. I saw that there was an EotW in there, but I already have a full size HC of it. (The Great Hunt is the only one I am missing) I decided to look closer anyway I'm glad I did. (Sorry if those are a bit big) If any of you are book collectors you…

An interesting question that I posed on Twitter last night, to some interesting answers. Does the Harry Potter series count as epic fantasy? Points for: The series features the struggle between a band of plucky heroes against a Dark Lord and his minions. The Dark Lord has previously menaced the world in a prior incarnation and been defeated, but is now returning, a fact initially greeted with scepticism in some quarters. The central hero is a chosen one whose destiny is to defeat the Dark Lord, as agreed upon by pretty much everyone (even the Dark Lord and his minions, who make the hero's termination a priority). The series features conspiracies, political…

  28. Nooria, the capital of the Cerani Empire, is a hotbed of political intrigue. There is a plague sweeping through the empire, marking its victims with a strange pattern, killing many and turning others into mindless killers. At the heart of the empire is a dark secret: the emperor himself has been marked by the pattern and seems doomed. His mother, his courtiers, the vizier and the emperor's imprisoned brother will all play a role in the turmoil to come, as will a girl from the grass plains, sent by her father into the empire as a gift. But the questions remain: who is behind the plague, and who will control the Pattern? The Emperor's Knife is the first novel in the Kni…

I'm a bit puzzled by this comment, since the same is true in the fictional world of Westeros. In fact, before the recent civil war that brought the king to power at the start of AGoT, there hadn't been any internal fighting in Westeros for a century and the kingdom had been at peace for a long time. The prequel novellas involving the characters Dunk and Egg are actually interesting partially because they are set during this period of peace, as they travel around and get embroiled in adventures amongst the smallfolk and lords without a backdrop of war. Makes for an interesting contrast with the main series. More to the point, if ASoIaF was set during a time of peace an…

I am not going to write a long rant on the subject, I will keep it short. I just wanted to make a thread here - since I am new here - and see what people have to say. So, probably about June or so, a buddy started telling me about this book (series) he's been reading for years now. I consider him one of my best friends and value his opinion. So, he's telling me about it and how great it really is. One day he shows up and hands me one of the books that he has been speaking so highly of. Now, I am not (or rather, wasn't at this point) a reader at all. I mean, I would read articles online or in the newspaper; but never would willfully pick up a book and sit down to read.…
